Improving Awareness Of Physician Ergonomics In Gynecologic Surgery, Priyanka Raju Md, Annika Eveland Md, Tamara Lalovic Do, Dominic Cammarano Do Mar 2026

Improving Awareness Of Physician Ergonomics In Gynecologic Surgery, Priyanka Raju Md, Annika Eveland Md, Tamara Lalovic Do, Dominic Cammarano Do

Transformative Medicine

Introduction:
Surgeons experience disproportionately high rates of work-related musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders due to prolonged static postures, repetitive motions, and suboptimal instrument design. Gynecologic surgery, in particular, involves sustained non-neutral positioning and physical strain, yet formal ergonomic education is lacking. This study aimed to evaluate gynecologic surgeons’ awareness of ergonomic principles and determine whether targeted education improves knowledge and recognition of ergonomic risk factors during surgery.

Methods: A quality improvement intervention was implemented at a large teaching hospital. Eighty-three recorded gynecologic surgeries (open, laparoscopic, and vaginal) were analyzed for common postural deviations based on ergonomic guidelines. The most frequent errors were …

Optically Isolated, Current-Controlled Closed-Loop System For Magnetically-Mediated Temporal Interference Neuromodulation (M-Ttis), Olexandr Lozovyi Mar 2026

Optically Isolated, Current-Controlled Closed-Loop System For Magnetically-Mediated Temporal Interference Neuromodulation (M-Ttis), Olexandr Lozovyi

Defensive Publications Series

We disclose a neuromodulation system implementing closed-loop, magnetically-mediated temporal interference stimulation (m-tTIS). While inspired by traditional electric tTIS, the disclosed architecture utilizes coherent magnetic field synthesis for non-invasive tissue penetration. To suppress electromagnetic interference (EMI) below functional detection thresholds and limit hardware-induced demodulation artifacts, an "Absolute Optical Air-Gap" architecture is detailed. The device is partitioned into galvanically isolated domains, interconnected exclusively via plastic optical fiber (POF). The power stage employs a Class D amplifier with a second-order LC filter and hardware current sensing for amplitude stabilization. Control is based on adaptive optimization of physiological spectral metrics. Firmware execution provides deterministic, …

Pith: A Governed Cognitive Architecture For Persistent Ai Memory, Andrew Estey-Ang Mar 2026

Pith: A Governed Cognitive Architecture For Persistent Ai Memory, Andrew Estey-Ang

Defensive Publications Series

We present Pith, a cognitive architecture that provides persistent, governed memory for large language model (LLM) agents. Unlike stateless retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems or simple key-value memory stores, Pith implements a multi-layered governance stack that manages the full lifecycle of learned knowledge: acquisition, belief state management, temporal decay, contradiction detection, authority scoring, and cross-session coherence. We describe the architecture's core components — a five-state belief lifecycle, four-tier feedback system, knowledge area segmentation, and a novel behavioral benchmark (CogGov-Bench) for evaluating governance effectiveness. Deployed in production with 4,874 concepts across 3,043 sessions, Pith achieves a CogGov-Bench composite score of 69.0/100 with …

Gci Temporal Artifact Inspection Instrument With Phase-Locked Calibration And Automated Artifact Discovery, Michael Victor Caldwell Mr. Mar 2026

Gci Temporal Artifact Inspection Instrument With Phase-Locked Calibration And Automated Artifact Discovery, Michael Victor Caldwell Mr.

Defensive Publications Series

Abstract

The GCI Temporal Artifact Inspection Instrument is a human-in-the-loop optical metrology device that reveals temporal visual artifacts in digital displays and video sources. The instrument uses photodiode-based refresh timing measurement, phase-locked loop synchronization, adjustable shutter phase offset, lock-quality feedback, calibration modes, automatic phase-sweep artifact discovery, preset display profiles, and session logging to support repeatable forensic inspection of motion discontinuities, flicker, frame pacing irregularities, compression instability, refresh mismatch artifacts, and other time-domain visual defects. The device functions as a synchronized optical inspection tool rather than an automatic authenticity detector.

The Criminalization Of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (Dmst) Survivors, Mackenzie Zimmerman Mar 2026

The Criminalization Of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (Dmst) Survivors, Mackenzie Zimmerman

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) defines sex trafficking as the “recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act.” When the trafficking involves resident minors within the United States, the act is referred to as domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST). However, because DMST enmeshment often involves elements of criminal activity, a minor may be implicated as a recruiter in friend-type trafficking, and a third-party trafficker is not required to constitute sex trafficking involving minors, the designation of “survivor” or “criminal” remains complicated in many cases. Due to these blurred lines between …

Enhancing Introductory Cybersecurity Learning: A Design-Based Research Case Study, Manny Niri Dr. Mar 2026

Enhancing Introductory Cybersecurity Learning: A Design-Based Research Case Study, Manny Niri Dr.

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

This study employs a design-based research (DBR) framework to examine the impact of a comprehensive curriculum redesign in an introductory Foundations of Security module for undergraduate students in computing and cybersecurity at a UK public university between 2019 and 2025. The redesign aimed to enhance student learning, engagement, and critical thinking through the embodiment of evidence-based pedagogical strategies, including flipped classroom delivery, blended learning, gamified practical exercises, repeated low-stakes mock assessments, and structured problem-solving activities. Student feedback, assessment outcomes, attendance records, and faculty reflections were analysed to evaluate the effectiveness of the redesign. The results indicate substantial improvements in student …

Multiscale Computational Modeling Of The Cardiopulmonary Consequences Of Postnatal Hyperoxia With Implications For Preterm-Born Children, Salla M. Kim, Filip Jezek, Pim J. A. Oomen, Gregory P. Barton, Feng Gu, Daniel A. Beard, Kara N. Goss, Mitchel J. Colebank, Naomi C. Chesler Mar 2026

Multiscale Computational Modeling Of The Cardiopulmonary Consequences Of Postnatal Hyperoxia With Implications For Preterm-Born Children, Salla M. Kim, Filip Jezek, Pim J. A. Oomen, Gregory P. Barton, Feng Gu, Daniel A. Beard, Kara N. Goss, Mitchel J. Colebank, Naomi C. Chesler

Faculty Publications

Moderate to extreme preterm birth (<  32 weeks gestation) affects cardiopulmonary structure and function and is associated with increased risk of heart failure through adulthood. The rat hyperoxia (Hx) model (term born; postnatal Hx exposure) captures biventricular changes, including at the cell and organ scale, and pulmonary vascular remodeling seen in preterm humans. However, synthesizing these measures across scales and organ systems is challenging. We hypothesized that in silico modeling of biventricular mitochondrial, myofiber, and organ-scale function plus circulatory function could capture key features of cardiopulmonary abnormalities due to preterm birth. Therefore, we calibrated a multiscale model to subject-specific biventricular pressure–volume data previously obtained from Hx rats alongside normoxic (Nx) controls to investigate the abnormalities in cardiopulmonary function at multiple scales in this animal model of human preterm birth. The calibrated model demonstrates excellent agreement with the data and captures the expected pulmonary vascular changes and right ventricular dilation seen in preterm-born children. Our multiscale modeling approach captures cardiopulmonary abnormalities across spatial scales and provides an innovative approach to explore the consequences of preterm birth beyond preclinical experimental data alone. This is a foundational step in understanding the impact of preterm birth on cardiopulmonary disease in childhood as well as adulthood.
