Change For The Ohio Nurse Practitioner Treating Worker's Compensation Patients: A Needs Analysis, Jessica Huff May 2022

Change For The Ohio Nurse Practitioner Treating Worker's Compensation Patients: A Needs Analysis, Jessica Huff

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Autonomous nurse practitioners are an effective and useful member of the healthcare team, particularly when given a less restrictive scope of practice at the state level. The autonomous nurse practitioner can help improve patient outcomes/needs as a decision-making health care team member.

Ohio nurse practitioners treating worker’s compensation patients are limited in treating the injured worker not because of the nurse practitioner scope of practice, but because of the bureaucratic paperwork worker’s compensation requires of its patients/providers. The purpose of the project was to conduct a needs analysis regarding a legislative change proposal for the practice authority of nurse practitioners …

School Leadership Through The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Phenomenological Study, Deanna Kay Dykstra-Lathrop

Dissertations

This phenomenological study presented the lived experiences of eight high school principals who led through the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants represented eight different school from five school districts from across Colorado. Each participant’s school implemented 1:1 devices, namely Chromebooks or iPads, for each student prior to the pandemic’s onset. The research question that guided this study was: What are lived experiences of high school principals who led through the COVID-19 pandemic? Data were collected via one-hour, individual, semi-structured interviews in person or via Zoom, then transcribed and analyzed. A phenomenological approach to the data was employed while implementing bridling methods …

An Efficient Computational Method For Causal Inference In High-Dimensional Data: Neighborhood-Based Cross Fitting, Oluwagbenga David Agboola May 2022

An Efficient Computational Method For Causal Inference In High-Dimensional Data: Neighborhood-Based Cross Fitting, Oluwagbenga David Agboola

Dissertations

High-dimensional data are increasingly popular in various physical science and social science disciplines. This study proposed a new computationally efficient sample splitting method called Neighborhood-Based Cross Fitting (NBCF) for double machine learning in causal inference on high-dimensional data. A common existing approach of repeatedly splitting data was suggested to address the overfitting problem in high-dimensional statistics, however it is computationally expensive. The proposed method deals well with the problem of post-selection bias in causal inference in the presence of high-dimensional confounders. Also, it provides an equivalent performance in unbiased estimation as repeated data splitting, which is suggested to expand the …

Baseline Survey Of Diatom Assemblages In Freshwater Bodies Of Central Florida, Ashley Mathews May 2022

Baseline Survey Of Diatom Assemblages In Freshwater Bodies Of Central Florida, Ashley Mathews

Environmental Studies

Diatoms are well established in their usefulness to determine water quality and habitat assessments. In Central Florida, no research has been devoted to creating a baseline assemblage of freshwater diatoms. This study uses pH, conductivity, water temperature, dissolved oxygen, total nitrogen and total phosphorous to examine the relationship between environmental variables and diatom species composition among eight different sites. Environmental variables were not found to have a statistically significant impact on diatom assemblages in any of the water bodies; however, species composition was significantly different between sites, establishing a baseline of data for further studies to build upon. Although no …

Impact Of A Cattle Crossing On Water Quality Along A Tributary Of The Muddy Fork Of The Illinois River, Northwest Arkansas, Nicholas Valentini May 2022

Impact Of A Cattle Crossing On Water Quality Along A Tributary Of The Muddy Fork Of The Illinois River, Northwest Arkansas, Nicholas Valentini

Animal Science Undergraduate Honors Theses

Cattle are known to have an effect on water quality in various bodies of water. Studying how cattle impact water quality along various streams and tributaries is important to understanding how certain water parameters may be affected at the individual farm level. It is known that unrestricted access to a cattle crossing has been shown to increase the occurrence of downstream pollutants such as E. coli, ammonium, total kjeldahl nitrogen, total suspended solids, total phosphorus, and turbidity. However, many studies focus on large-scale operations and neglect the individual farm level. In this study, samples were collected twice for each …

Pandemics And Animal Welfare: How The Covid-19 Pandemic Has Affected The Companion Animal Industry In Northwest Arkansas, Sabrina Cox May 2022

Pandemics And Animal Welfare: How The Covid-19 Pandemic Has Affected The Companion Animal Industry In Northwest Arkansas, Sabrina Cox

Animal Science Undergraduate Honors Theses

The first cases of coronavirus reported in the United States came in January 2020 (World Health Organization, 2020). In the two years since then, countries around the world have been affected by COVID-19 and the subsequent social, economic, and mental health issues. Previous research shows that the animal healthcare field is already overrun with burnout, substance abuse, depression, and increased levels of stress (Gardner & Hini, 2006), and the pandemic has only compounded these issues (Mair et al., 2020). Observing a lack of meaningful reporting on the issues affecting veterinary staff led the researchers to investigate staff members’ practices, day- …

Analytic Hierarchy Process Is Not A Suitable Method For The Comprehensive Rating, Sai Nethra Betgeri May 2022

Analytic Hierarchy Process Is Not A Suitable Method For The Comprehensive Rating, Sai Nethra Betgeri

Master's Theses

The Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program (PACP) was developed by the National Association of Sewer Service Companies, the industry-accepted protocol for condition rating of sewer pipes in the US. The PACP method relies exclusively on visual inspections performed using Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), where existing structural and operation and maintenance (O&M) defects are observed by certified operators. A limitation of the PACP method is that it does not use pipe characteristics, depth, soil type, surface conditions, pipe criticality, and capacity, nor the distribution of structural defects or history of preventative maintenance to determine the condition rating of the sewer pipe segment. …

Familial Weight And Diet Talk's Relationship To Weight Satisfaction And Life Satisfaction, Jasmine Gilbert

Master's Theses

Today, body weight can be a sensitive topic, and a person’s insecurities and sensitivity to this topic may be rooted in their childhood experiences. Because of the sensitive nature of the weight issue, investigating early life experiences around familial weight and diet talk of young adults will provide information about their current feelings regarding weight satisfaction. Establishing the sources of this talk beyond that of parents and whether they affect later life and weight satisfaction has yet to be determined.

The purpose of this study is to determine if there is an association between familial weight and diet talk, its …

Exploring Ransomware On The Oculus Quest 2, Michael Mahan May 2022

Exploring Ransomware On The Oculus Quest 2, Michael Mahan

Master's Theses

Virtual Reality Head Mounted Displays, also coined VR headsets, have breached barriers that held back widespread adoption and usage in the past. While covering the reasons for this large-scale spread, the idea is introduced that HMDs, which are standalone units, can become targets for malware. This work explores how applicable Android ransomware is to the Oculus Quest 2’s attack surface, due to the Quest’s usage of Android 10 as a base operating system. Existing ransomware samples are evaluated to determine an abstract definition of ransomware. This work also introduces SRS, Simple Ransomware Sample, which acts as a Proof-of-Concept, a minimum …

Rodent Dental Microwear Texture Analysis As A Proxy For Fine-Scale Paleoenvironment Reconstruction, Jenny H. E. Burgman May 2022

Rodent Dental Microwear Texture Analysis As A Proxy For Fine-Scale Paleoenvironment Reconstruction, Jenny H. E. Burgman

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA) of fossil fauna has become a valuable tool for dietary inference and paleoenvironment reconstruction. Most of this work has utilized larger taxa with larger home ranges. These studies may result in broader-scale habitat inferences that could mask the details of complex mosaic habitats. Rodent DMTA offers an opportunity to work at finer spatial scales because most species have smaller home ranges. Rodents are also keystone species within their ecosystems, abundant, ubiquitous, and found in many fossil deposits. These attributes make them excellent proxies for environmental reconstructions. However, the application of DMTA to rodents remains relatively …

There Are Ghosts In The Machine, Jonathan Green May 2022

There Are Ghosts In The Machine, Jonathan Green

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

There are ghosts in the machine is a body of paintings that dare to dissolve the boundaries between my physical body, intimate desires, and paintings. Utilizing the aesthetics of leather lifestyles, the paintings express the transformational potential of desire and transgression. Oriented within my experience as a queer, transgender male, I call upon influences that range from the body horror classics by director David Cronenberg or the transgressive attitude of Nine Inch Nails, to theoretical works on the power of eroticism by Audre Lorde and Georges Bataille.Modified by hardware such as chains, zippers, and grommets, the paintings express the transformational …

Refining Particle Size Specification For Asphalt Emulsion, Pedro Luis Diaz Romero May 2022

Refining Particle Size Specification For Asphalt Emulsion, Pedro Luis Diaz Romero

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Pavements begin to deteriorate as soon as they are constructed, and traffic is released. The rate at which a pavement deteriorates depends on the material quality, the environment, and the loads carried. To properly preserve pavements and extend their life, various pavement preservation treatments are used. For flexible pavements, a considerable number of these treatments use asphalt emulsion (which are refer to simply emulsions from here on). Emulsions are classified based on their particle charge and reactivity. Emulsions used in chip seals are usually of rapid set reactivity and are classified based on tests over fifty years old.

It has …

Temporal Changes In Surface Water Availability: Patterns Of Seasonal Shift On Water Stress In The Conterminous Us Under A Changing Climate, Quinn Montana

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The argument could be made that there is nothing more valuable on the planet than water. Our lives depend upon it. Climate change is already having an impact on the United States (US) and water stress will be one of the problems we increasingly face in coming decades. Regional research has shown that one or another part of the conterminous US (CONUS) is expected to experience an annual deficit or a surplus in runoff. Further studies have looked at changing patterns over the CONUS as a whole. Other research has focused on a particular season. This work addresses a gap …

crying at nothing but colors is an installation of ceramic works that explores the abstraction of feelings, both physical and emotional. The installation itself is a house made out of tension cables that stretch wall to wall in the gallery space. Inside the house are 7 ceramic objects placed on wooden pedestals paired with tufted rugs.

Throughout this essay, I will describe the abstract ceramic objects as Beings. They are colorful and have textured glaze on the surface with a gloopy opalescent glaze oozing out of holes that cover each piece. They are an extension of myself. They are the …

As The Sun Yellows The Green Of The Maple Tree, Adam Fulwiler May 2022

As The Sun Yellows The Green Of The Maple Tree, Adam Fulwiler

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

As the Sun Yellows the Green of the Maple Tree is a body of paintings investigating communication, improvisation, play, and painting’s capacity for transformation.

Reflecting on my childhood spent with my brother, Austin, who experiences sensory differences due to autism, I establish a painted space that is both forcibly disjointed and meaningfully connected, invoking the uncertainty and complexity of perception and communication. Through chromatic nuance, physicality, representational ambiguity, and visual tempo, I invite the viewer into the act of slow looking—to encounter each work as a living, breathing, individual entity.

In the studio, I invent rules and aleatoric devices, mimicking …

Boring Magic, Madison Svendgard May 2022

Boring Magic, Madison Svendgard

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Boring Magic encompasses an interest in labor, boredom, and exhaustion. Simultaneously, I am exploring what relief and escapism from these things look like. Escapism acts as the core of my work- what escapism looks like and what creates the need for escapism. I create narrative pieces that are always slightly removed from reality as a way to reflect on what I view as present-day dystopias. The worlds built to create this work are a combination of my lived experiences and invented characters and stories, which culminate in an alternate timeline set in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Relating to …

Investigating The Mechanics And Chemistry Of Sickle Polish Development, Justin Jared Dubois May 2022

Investigating The Mechanics And Chemistry Of Sickle Polish Development, Justin Jared Dubois

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This series of experiments is designed to understand the development and chemistry of sickle gloss. Sickles are common in the archaeological record and have long been studied for their eponymous “sickle gloss”. There is debate as to how this gloss is formed. Five experimental sickles containing flint and novaculite blades were used to harvest high and low moisture content rye and common fescue and associated field weeds. The differences in the development of sickle gloss were examined. High moisture content plants create thick, smooth fields of polish with undulating, billowing margins at a higher developmental speed. Low moisture content plants …

Validation Of Cfd Tornado Pressure On Building And Wind Field With Ttu Vortex Chamber Measurements, Sumit Verma

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Structural failure of low-rise buildings is the root cause of higher number of casualties, death tolls and economic losses at the place of occurrence of tornadoes. Proper design of low-rise buildings in tornado-prone areas require accurate estimation of tornado-induced wind loads; however, exhaustive research to estimate the wind loads reliably on buildings during tornadic events is still lacking. Several studies have been carried out to investigate the magnitude of forces induced by tornado winds on buildings from experimental as well as computational side. However, the wind pressures obtained on the building from different experimental studies have shown significant variation from …

Development Of An Accelerated Life Testing Method For Reliability Assessment Of Wire Bonded Interconnects Subjected To Mechanical And Electromigratory Stresses, Whit Vinson May 2022

Development Of An Accelerated Life Testing Method For Reliability Assessment Of Wire Bonded Interconnects Subjected To Mechanical And Electromigratory Stresses, Whit Vinson

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Power electronic advancement trends indicate that device power density will continue to increase as a result of increased power requirements and desired device form factor reduction in order to reduce weight and material costs and increase ease of integration into next-generation power systems. With these advancements come concerns regarding device reliability. The compounded effects of increased power density and form factor reduction in electrical conductors will yield amplified joule heating effects in addition to the already increasing device temperature profiles resulting from the incorporation of wide bandgap technology into power systems. Joule heating effects can lead to a variety of …

Assessing Employees’ Perceptions Of The Frequency And Intensity Of Workplace Interpersonal Conflict In Lateral And Hierarchical Dyads, Matthew Shayne Castillo May 2022

Assessing Employees’ Perceptions Of The Frequency And Intensity Of Workplace Interpersonal Conflict In Lateral And Hierarchical Dyads, Matthew Shayne Castillo

Doctoral Dissertations

Workplace interpersonal conflict has been identified as a potential major source of stress for several occupations. Occupational stress literature concerning this stressor reveals that interpersonal conflict can have adverse outcomes for organizations including absenteeism, turnover, and workers’ compensation claims for psychological injury. Accordingly, researchers have developed measures aimed at capturing perceptions of workplace interpersonal conflict to remediate and prevent it in organizations. Although workplace interpersonal conflict has received considerable attention, there is little research assessing perceptions of conflict from a dyadic perspective in lateral (coworker-coworker) and hierarchical (supervisor-subordinate) relationships between supervisors and non-supervisors. This is important because conflict may be …

Prosecution In Public, Prosecution In Private, Lauren M. Ouziel May 2022

Prosecution In Public, Prosecution In Private, Lauren M. Ouziel

Notre Dame Law Review

Criminal procedure has long set a boundary between public and private in criminal enforcement: generally speaking, enforcement decisions at the post-charging stage are exposed to some degree of public view, while those at the pre-charging stage remain almost entirely secret. The allocation of public and private is, at heart, an allocation of power—and the current allocation is a relic. When private prosecutors were the mainstay of criminal enforcement, public court processes effectively constrained them. But those processes do little to constrain the spaces where enforcement power today resides: in decisions by the servants of a state-run, professionalized enforcement apparatus on …

How Favored, Exactly? An Analysis Of The Most Favored Nation Theory Of Religious Exemptions From Calvary Chapel To Tandon, Luray Buckner May 2022

How Favored, Exactly? An Analysis Of The Most Favored Nation Theory Of Religious Exemptions From Calvary Chapel To Tandon, Luray Buckner

Notre Dame Law Review

In this Note, I argue that Justice Kavanaugh’s most favored nation test for religious exemptions actually differs from the one employed by the majority of the Court in Tandon. The majority’s formulation of the test is vague and explicitly requires courts to engage in a fact-intensive comparability analysis. Practically, lower courts applying Tandon to religious exemption questions have exploited this comparability step to rule against religious claimants generally, but more specifically to deny them strict scrutiny. Because the Tandon test was formulated to apply to all free exercise claims, the test is necessarily framed in more general terms and …

Buffet Early Childhood Institute Reports and Publications

In February 2022, the Buffett Early Childhood Institute conducted the Nebraska COVID-19 Early Care and Education Survey III, in collaboration with state agencies, University of Nebraska faculty, and organization partners. This third survey examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Nebraska’s child care professionals and its implications for practice and policy. Results from the previous surveys, released in April and August 2020, indicated that early care and education professionals in Nebraska, who were already vulnerable prior to the pandemic, have been negatively impacted from the start of the pandemic. The first survey elevated providers’ immediate needs, including funding relief, …

Inter-Cell Slicing Resource Partitioning Via Coordinated Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning, Tianlun Hu, Qi Liao, Qiang Liu, Dan Wellington, Georg Carle May 2022

Inter-Cell Slicing Resource Partitioning Via Coordinated Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning, Tianlun Hu, Qi Liao, Qiang Liu, Dan Wellington, Georg Carle

School of Computing: Faculty Publications

Network slicing enables the operator to configure virtual network instances for diverse services with specific requirements. To achieve the slice-aware radio resource scheduling, dynamic slicing resource partitioning is needed to orchestrate multi-cell slice resources and mitigate inter-cell interference. It is, however, challenging to derive the analytical solutions due to the complex inter-cell interdependencies, interslice resource constraints, and service-specific requirements. In this paper, we propose a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach that improves the max-min slice performance while maintaining the constraints of resource capacity. We design two coordination schemes to allow distributed agents to coordinate and mitigate inter-cell interference. The …
