In recent times, people have increasingly self-assessed their health using different devices on their bodies that monitor physiological attributes such as their oxygen level and blood pressure (BP) to monitor their health. One of the most popular health concerns that became prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic was the blood oxygen saturation (SPO2) level. It became increasingly important to monitor SPO2 in patients, time and again to determine whether the right amount of oxygen is in the blood. Low oxygen levels usually indicate there may be an issue with oxygen circulation or supply and thus informs diagnostic and treatment decisions such …

Computational Reliability Analysis Of Blind Micro-Via With 3d And Axisymmetric Multi-Layer Pcb, Jayendra Bazaru

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses - Archive

Micro-via are components that are used to form connections from one layer to another in most Multilayered Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). The failure of Micro-via has always been a concern of the electronic industry. The failures are exaggerated during the reflow process due to the high thermal loading. Electronic components have become ubiquitous in our society. It is important to take some measures to reduce (or) eliminate the failures at interconnects in the Printed Circuit Board to obtain highly reliable Input/Output (I/O). This work is based on a hypothetical belief that the possible cause of failure is an insufficient or …

Alternative Fixation Of Venous Valves For Bioprosthetic Applications, Makenzie Kapales May 2022

Alternative Fixation Of Venous Valves For Bioprosthetic Applications, Makenzie Kapales

Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

Venous valve failure allows for the retrograde, or backward, flow of blood into the lower extremities, which leads to Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). CVI infringes upon quality of life through ulceration and can result in death due to Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), or blood clots, causing pulmonary embolism. A successful treatment of CVI restores valve function and prevents retrograde blood flow; however, current bioprosthetic venous valves exhibit low patency and high calcification. To improve upon bioprosthetic venous valves and CVI treatment, the University of Arkansas’s Cardiovascular Biomechanics Lab conducts studies with the purpose of comparing the properties and performance of …

In this study, a proof-of-concept optical imaging system is presented, capable of resolving absorbers within scattering turbid media using a …

(Re)Fashioning Gender: Dress As Embodied Feminist Critique In Modernist Women’S Writing, Lauren Elizabeth Sperandio Phelps May 2022

(Re)Fashioning Gender: Dress As Embodied Feminist Critique In Modernist Women’S Writing, Lauren Elizabeth Sperandio Phelps

English Dissertations - Archive

In this dissertation I examine early twentieth century women writers’ use of fashion as a mode of critiquing gender, race, and class oppression. Through close reading of the novels of Nella Larsen, Edith Wharton, Anzia Yezierska, Radclyffe Hall, and Virginia Woolf, I explore how fashion in these works functions to emphasize elements of identity formation and conditioning. I argue that by taking up fashion as a tool for critique women writers were able to simultaneously challenge oppressive social structures as well as appraisals of women as unfit for serious analysis or literature. If fashion is considered trivial, then using it …

Making Selves As We Make Scholars: The Many Uses Of Life Writing In College English, Lindsey Rose Gendke May 2022

Making Selves As We Make Scholars: The Many Uses Of Life Writing In College English, Lindsey Rose Gendke

English Dissertations - Archive

This dissertation addresses the perennial question, for both new and more seasoned English professors, “What should we teach in English?” In composition, “What types of writing should we teach?” And in literature, “what literature, and which authors, should we read?” In the current age where teachers are concerned with promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, perhaps these questions are more relevant than ever. Thus, employing Wayne Booth’s rhetorical stance as my theoretical frame, I inquire 1) what are the most pressing needs of traditional-age college students, and 2) what theories and teaching strategies uncovered in recent English studies have the potential …

Performance Of Density Estimators In Additive Measurement Error Models Based On Right Censored Data, Hrishabh Khakurel

Mathematics Dissertations - Archive

In the deconvolution problem for right censored data, one is interested in estimating the density of a contaminated variable X when X satisfies Z= X+ E, where E is a measurement error with a known distribution, and the observable variable Z is right-censored. Zhu, Sun, Khakurel, and Wang (2021) applied the Inverse Probability of Censoring Weighted Average method and derived the estimators of the unknown density of X. In this study, we evaluate the performance of the density estimators both in theory and in simulation. We derive the theoretical upper bounds for Mean Squared Error (MSE) of the estimator and …
