Antifascism And Wildness. “Partisan Ecologies” Between The Spanish Civil War And The Global Warming Era, Jaime Vindel May 2022

Antifascism And Wildness. “Partisan Ecologies” Between The Spanish Civil War And The Global Warming Era, Jaime Vindel

Artl@s Bulletin

This short essay uses the concept of “partisan ecologies” in order to analyse certain past and present chapters on the relationship between anti-fascism and nature. According to the Swedish eco- Marxist Andreas Malm, wilderness has not only represented an essentialist idea resulting from the projections of conservationist environmentalism about a supposedly untouched nature, but has also been one of the real spaces of a modern antagonism. Taking this theoretical point of departure, the text describes the Alpine Battalion of the Sierra del Guadarrama during the Spanish Civil War and its resonances in some contemporary events.

Partisan Dilemmas Between Activism And Socially Engaged Art: Situations In Loisaida At The End Of The Seventies, Olga FernáNdez López

Artl@s Bulletin

The end of 1970s is an interesting moment to understand the epistemic shift that involves the passage from partisan artistic activism to contemporary socially engaged art. Then, a significant convergence took place in the neighborhood of Loisaida (NYC), where artists and local residents coincided in their modes of action. However, its subsequent cultural interpretations have overlooked each other. Art history cosmopolitan approaches clashed with migration identities, traversed by victimhood, but also by transnational heritages. This article examines and reunites both traditions looking for a reparative art history.

An Antifascist Biennale: ‘Libertà Al Cile’ In And From Venice, Anita Orzes May 2022

An Antifascist Biennale: ‘Libertà Al Cile’ In And From Venice, Anita Orzes

Artl@s Bulletin

The article analyses the section Libertà al Cile [Liberty for Chile] of 1974 Venice Biennale. Even if this cultural proposal against Pinochet’s regime had a significant role and was the most visible face of La Biennale per una cultura democratica e antifascista [The Biennial for a democratic and anti- fascist culture], a detailed study of this exhibition is still missing. The aim of this article is to contextualize Libertà al Cile within the project of the New Biennale and its new exhibition formula, as well as within the ties of brotherhood that united Italy and Chile by paying attention to …

Counter-Archival Surplus: Remembering The Partisan Rupture In Post-Socialist Times, Gal Kirn May 2022

Counter-Archival Surplus: Remembering The Partisan Rupture In Post-Socialist Times, Gal Kirn

Artl@s Bulletin

The article departs critically from the postsocialist condition in Yugoslavia marked by conservative revisionism that transformed the memorial landscape. The nation-building process took a clearly negative attitude towards the Yugoslav, socialist and partisan/antifascist past. The first part of the text will shortly present the notion of »counter-archive« and the central features of the method. The second part of the text will offer a short analysis of four case studies: A short partisan poem written by Iztok, a drawing by Dore Klemenčič, a partisan dance by Marta Paulin and a partisan film by Rudi Omota.

Clime: Command Line Metrics For Git Projects, Nicholas Synovic

Computer Science Research Seminars and Symposia

Numerous efforts in repository mining have focused
on mining repositories and reporting basic metrics. Many efforts
are focused on being able to evaluate (or score) projects based
on these metrics. Yet little attention has been given to in-
process metrics, which are a critical tool for improving software
quality as agile projects become more established projects and
require regular maintenance. We present CLIME (Command Line
Metrics), a user-installable toolset for computing a wide variety
of classical and modern process metrics, including code size,
issue spoilage, issue/defect density, productivity, and bus factor.
CLIME also includes a tool to identify projects based …

Hydrodynamic Model For Independent Cold And Thermo-Mineral Twin Springs In A Stratified Continental Karst Aquifer, Camou, Arbailles Massif, Pyrénées, France, Philippe Audra, Jean-Yves Bigot, Dimitri Laurent, Nathalie Vanara, Didier Cailhol, Gérard Cazenave

International Journal of Speleology

The Camou springs (Arbailles Massif, French Western Pyrenees) display an unusual close association of a typically cold karstic spring that drains the Urgonian western limb of the Arbailles, and a thermo-mineral spring (33.5°C; salinity 17.7 g/L). The latter gains its mineralization at the contact of Triassic evaporites mainly through a deep loop in the Apanicé syncline. The fast upflow of this deep water occurs at the cross of large active lines (the North-Pyrenean thrust located at depth, and the Saison transverse fault). Cave diving in the nearby Maddalen Cave allowed reaching the phreatic passage at the origin of the cold …

Atypical Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Presentation In An Adult Patient, Jasmin Martin, Allison Wallingford, Dana Dhami, Aseem Sood

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TSC) is a transient cardiac condition brought on by physical and emotional distress causing left ventricular akinesis. Typically, patients are older females that present with substernal chest pain radiating to the left arm, presenting similarly to acute coronary syndrome. In addition, the elevated troponins and EKG changes such as ST elevations and T wave inversions seen in acute coronary syndrome may also be appreciated in TSC. While there have been many reports of TSC presenting in a similar manner to acute coronary syndrome, this case report will describe an atypical presentation of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. The patient we are …

Drug-Induced Erythema Multiforme Major In An Elderly Female, Roshniben Patel, Akhila Mohan, Noha Omar, Maria Pardi

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

Erythema multiforme (EM) is an acute, immune-mediated condition which affects the skin and mucous membranes. EM is a type 4 hypersensitivity reaction typically mediated by cytotoxic T lymphocytes. It is usually a self limiting, transient, inflammatory disease that spontaneously resolves within weeks without major sequelae. However, occasionally patients might have frequent recurrences, persistent disease or serious complications like fluid and electrolyte abnormalities. The most common triggers are infection followed by medications. Here we present the case of an 81-year-old female who came in with worsening lip and tongue swelling associated with a rash and was diagnosed with EM major due to …

Successful Utilization Of Life-Saving Extra-Corporeal Co2 Removal In Catastrophic Status Asthmaticus: A Case Report, Mahsa Mohammadian, Ahmed Mowafy, Anthony Dikhtyar

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

Acute asthma exacerbations can be severe and life-threatening. In some cases, standard interventions and management do not result in reversal of bronchoconstriction. It is crucial to detect patients with impending respiratory failure and escalate management to invasive mechanical ventilatory support and, in refractory cases, interventions like extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). This technique is not frequently utilized but has proven to be effective in settings of resistant status asthmaticus.

We describe a case of respiratory distress secondary to asthma exacerbation, which rapidly devolved into status asthmaticus. It was resistant to all standard and off-label management modalities, which necessitated the use of …

Neurosyphilis: A Monkey Among Men, Cameron Rowe Do, Nathan Buckley Do, Bhaskar Chhetri Md, Suresh Paudel Md

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

Neurosyphilis is the progression of the untreated sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum. When the initial infection is not adequately treated, progression of primary syphilis can lead to a wide variety of serious health sequelae. While neurosyphilis can appear up to 10-30 years after the initial infection, syphilis can invade the nervous system at any stage of infection and can imitate symptoms of many other diseases. This variety of symptoms is why syphilis has been called “The Great Pretender” or “The monkey among diseases” (12). This is a case report of an 83-year-old female with a history of multiple …

Thinking Matters Symposium

Time and time again, by providing an outlet that allows innate human creativity to roam free, participation in arts activities such as dance, music, theatre, and visual arts is proven to have significant positive impacts on participants, regardless of age, experience, or background. Even though the arts have been acknowledged as critical for mental, physical, and emotional health, especially for children and adolescents, research has found that providing arts education in an equitable and culturally appropriate way is fraught with barriers. In addition, certain areas of the arts have seen a downward trend in educational priority and availability. My project …

Information Systems and Engineering Management Research Publications

Aims. Previous studies have related surface temperature maps, obtained with the Doppler imaging (DI) technique, of LQ Hya with long-term photometry. Here, we compare surface magnetic field maps, obtained with the Zeeman Doppler imaging (ZDI) technique, with contemporaneous photometry, with the aim of quantifying the star’s magnetic cycle characteristics.

Methods. We inverted Stokes IV spectropolarimetry, obtained with the HARPSpol and ESPaDOnS instruments, into magnetic field and surface brightness maps using a tomographic inversion code that models high signal-to-noise ratio mean line profiles produced by the least squares deconvolution (LSD) technique. The maps were compared against long-term ground-based photometry acquired with …

Search For Heavy Resonances Decaying To A Pair Of Lorentz-Boosted Higgs Bosons In Final States With Leptons And A Bottom Quark Pair At √S = 13 Tev, A. Tumasyan

Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications

A search for new heavy resonances decaying to a pair of Higgs bosons (HH) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV is presented. Data were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. Resonances with a mass between 0.8 and 4.5TeV are considered using events in which one Higgs boson decays into a bottom quark pair and the other into final states with either one or two charged leptons. Specifically, the single-lepton decay channel HH ⟶ b[]WW* ⟶ b[]ℓvq[]' and the dilepton decay channels HH ⟶ …
