Applying Lean Six Sigma To Optimize Pediatric Liver Transplant Workflows: An Investigational Quality Improvement Initiative And Process Improvement Framework, Sarah E. Auletta
Online/Hybrid MPH Integrative Learning Experience (capstone projects)
For children with end-stage liver disease, liver transplantation is the only cure. While organ scarcity is a national challenge, internal pre-listing processes remain within an institution's control. This quality improvement initiative applied Lean Six Sigma and mixed-methods process mapping to the pediatric deceased donor liver transplant pathway at Boston Children's Hospital. By integrating five years of electronic health record data with multidisciplinary interviews, the project developed a comprehensive process map and performance dashboard.
The study revealed a median of 65 days elapsed between referral and waitlist activation—a timeline entirely within internal operational control. This delay was concentrated in two specific …

Risk Identification And Load Transfer Calculation Method For Distribution Network Framework Considering New Energy Access, Ji Su, Tao Chen, Yu Duan, Zhantao Gao, Wei Yang, Yuqiao Ou
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Driven by the "dual carbon" target, it has become a trend for an extremely high proportion of new energy to be integrated into the distribution network. The random "bidirectional flow" of power flow in the distribution network has a great impact on its operational safety. It is urgent to identify the network framework risks and load transfer methods of the distribution network. A risk identification and load transfer calculation method for the distribution network framework considering the integration of new energy is proposed. First, a risk identification method for the distribution network with a high proportion of new energy access …

Hybrid Attack Detection Method For Lfc Based On Enhanced Kalman Filter And Residual Analysis, Yunning Zhang, Yuxuan Fu, Zhenxing Li, Fayun Fu
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Against the backdrop of extensively interconnected cyber-physical power systems (CPPS), this paper proposes an attack detection method based on an enhanced Kalman filter to address hybrid attacks involving denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and false data injection (FDI) attacks. First, a load-frequency control model is established for a two-region interconnected power system, and a hybrid attack model incorporating both DoS and FDI attacks is constructed. Second, an enhanced Kalman filter is introduced, incorporating an adaptive process noise adjustment mechanism and a residual history sliding window to enhance the robustness of state estimation. Subsequently, an improved attack detector is designed, integrating chi-square detection, …

Identification Of Winding Deformation And Inter-Turn Short Circuit Faults In Dry-Type Transformers Based On A Combined Vibration/Ultrasound Method, Shenjiong Yao, Jialu O Chai, Yingjing Chen, Yiyang Zhou, Lingxuan Zhang, Zhousheng Zhang
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
The insulation structure of dry-type transformers differs from that of oil-immersed transformers, and their oil-free nature makes it impossible to diagnose and forewarn inter-turn insulation faults in real time via chromatographic analysis of gas in oil. To solve this problem, a method based on a combined vibration/ultrasound method is proposed to identify winding deformation and inter-turn short circuit faults in dry-type transformers. First, the ultrasonic and vibration signals generated during winding deformation and inter-turn short circuits in dry-type transformers are collected, and the time-frequency features of the ultrasonic and vibration signals are extracted, including kurtosis, variance, mean, centroid frequency, root …

Children Facing The Law: Addressing Narcotics Offenses Through Restorative Justice, Nashriana Nashriana, Desia R. Banjarani
Indonesia Law Review
In recent years, the increasing number of children involved in narcotics-related crimes in Indonesia has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the current juvenile justice system. While the Juvenile Criminal Justice System Law promotes the use of diversion and restorative justice, in practice, punitive measures such as imprisonment remain the dominant approach. This gap between normative ideals and legal reality highlights the need for reform. Drawing from comparative legal frameworks in countries such as the United States, Germany, and Spain, this study explores the potential of therapeutic treatment as a more humane and effective response to juvenile narcotics offenses. Therapeutic …

Narratives From Law Enforcement Officers Who Leave Policing, Hector Rene Matascastillo
Narratives From Law Enforcement Officers Who Leave Policing, Hector Rene Matascastillo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Beginning in May 2020, a national exodus of law enforcement officers (LEOs) from the profession occurred. There has been speculation about the causes, including social unrest and trauma, while some claim that there has always been this level of attrition. The purpose of this study was to capture the narratives of LEOs regarding what motivated them to leave the profession after May 2020 and before achieving their retirement goals. The theoretical lens of general strain theory guided this study, as it posits that people under great strain resort to options that they would not usually consider, such as leaving the …

Via a basic qualitative research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with seven purposefully selected participants who were …
Staff Education On The Implementation Of Walking Interventions, Cynthia Ononobi
Staff Education On The Implementation Of Walking Interventions, Cynthia Ononobi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The doctoral project was a staff education project aimed at improving the knowledge of psychiatric nurses on the use of structured walking interventions to manage depression. The practice problem was related to the lack of consistency in the application of walking as a treatment for depression. This gap was significant to address because psychiatric nurses are in the center of behavioral activation, and insufficient knowledge may deny patients the right to potentially valuable, affordable, and nonpharmacological treatment. The practice-based question was: Among psychiatric nursing staff does education on structured walking intervention, compared to standard care, improve staff knowledge and skills …

Discovering The Genetics Underlying Speciation Traits In Heuchera (Coral Bells), Tajinder Singh
Discovering The Genetics Underlying Speciation Traits In Heuchera (Coral Bells), Tajinder Singh
Honors Theses
Hybridization is a key evolutionary mechanism for generating biological diversity, ultimately shaping diversification and adaptation of plant lineages in natural and agroecosystems. Our understanding of the frequency, distribution, and significance of hybridization is rapidly increasing, but the external driving forces that dictate why certain species hybridize, and others do not remain obscure. The physical traits that shape gene flow and trait sharing among species are likely to be among the key factors that directly control hybridization. Gene flow in most plants is mediated by pollinating insects and thus by pollination syndromes, which are suites of floral traits that have evolved …

Inconsistent Post-Fall Follow-Up And Documentation In A Skilled Nursing Facility, Brooke Beier
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
Falls remain a significant safety concern in skilled nursing facilities and are associated with increased morbidity, hospitalization, and loss of independence among older adults. While fall prevention strategies are widely implemented, inconsistent post-fall follow up and incomplete documentation can negatively impact residents and the facility. At a moderate-sized skilled nursing facility in central Minnesota, a review of recent fall reports identified inconsistencies in post-fall follow-up documentation, as well as gaps in staff education and the absence of a clearly defined post-fall documentation policy. The facility experienced 44 resident falls in the month of January alone, highlighting the urgency of addressing …
