My Account Of Covid- 19, Ryan Anonymous

Community Reflections

It was March 13, 2020, when the first encounter happened. The Coronavirus was still new to many of us, so we really did not know the true severity that this virus had in store. One morning, during second period, the entire school was called down to the auditorium for an impromptu assembly. With the recent closings of neighboring schools, we were certain that we were the next to close; everyone was ecstatic.

Community Reflections

The Coronavirus was a global pandemic that spread from China to the United States in March 2020. In March, it was announced to us that the United States had to go into lockdown for two weeks. Little did we know that this two-week lockdown was going to turn into almost a year. This news was found to be very surprising by everyone because it has been so many years since we had a pandemic that affected everyone.

Responses Of Extreme Discharge To Changes In Surface-Air And Dewpoint Temperatures In Utah: Seasonality And Mechanisms, Timothy E. Wright, Jacob Stuivenvolt-Allen, Grace Affram, Nahid A. Hasan, Cody Ratterman, Wei Zhang Feb 2023

Responses Of Extreme Discharge To Changes In Surface-Air And Dewpoint Temperatures In Utah: Seasonality And Mechanisms, Timothy E. Wright, Jacob Stuivenvolt-Allen, Grace Affram, Nahid A. Hasan, Cody Ratterman, Wei Zhang

Plants, Soils, and Climate Faculty Publications

The changes in stream discharge extremes due to temperature and seasonality are key metrics in assessing the effects of climate change on the hydrological cycle. While scaling is commonly applied to temperature and precipitation due to the physical connections between temperature and moisture (i.e., Clausius–Clapeyron), the scaling rate of stream discharge extremes to air and dewpoint temperatures has not been evaluated. To address this challenge, we assess the scaling rates between stream discharge and air temperature and between stream discharge and dewpoint temperature in Utah using a well-designed statistical framework. While there are deviations from the Clausius–Clapeyron (CC) relationship in …

Compactness And Neutrosophic Topological Space Via Grills, Runu Dhar

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

The aim of this paper is to introduce the concept of various types of compactness in neutrosophic topological space via grills. We shall generalize neutrosophic C - compact space and neutrosophic G - compact space and introduce C(G) - compact space in neutrosophic topological space with respect to grills. We shall call it as neutrosophic C - compact with respect to grills and term it as neutrosophic C(G) - compact space. We shall also investigate some of its basic properties and characterization theorems. We shall also study the neutrosophic quasi - H - closed space with respect to a grill.

Does Bergmann’S Rule Apply To North American Birds In The Context Of Climate Change?, Peridot Derrin Galloway Feb 2023

Does Bergmann’S Rule Apply To North American Birds In The Context Of Climate Change?, Peridot Derrin Galloway

Student Theses and Dissertations

Over the past half century, birds have changed, including in their morphology. Biogeographic rules including Bergmann’s and Allen’s rules have been used to try to elucidate morphological changes; however, there has been dispute over the rules’ applicability. Thus, I aimed to identify 1) morphometric trends over time of 15 North American bird species, including eastern bluebirds (Sialia sialis); 2) if these morphometric trends follow Bergmann’s rule; and 3) if the observed morphometric trends are associated with life history and other traits, as well as climatic variables (e.g., average, maximum and minimum temperatures, and total precipitation). Using short- and long-term morphological …

Writing Mississippi Delta Heritage: The Literary Creation Of Place, Maureen T. Richmond Feb 2023

Writing Mississippi Delta Heritage: The Literary Creation Of Place, Maureen T. Richmond

Student Theses and Dissertations

Since the late twentieth century, scholars of Heritage Studies have spoken of the processual nature of cultural inheritance, claiming that even the most respected traditions are often composed of memory, imagination, and fragments of history combined and artfully assembled. This contemporary analysis of heritage as an ongoing construction or creation shares points of similarity with the process of literary creation. Both blend the observation of fact with the operations of imagination to construct a desired reality. Both can be used to construct a sense of place. Using the paradigm of heritage constructionism, this dissertation examines fiction in the form of …

Comparing The Toxicant Responses And Culturing Characteristics Of Long-Term Laboratory-Reared And Field Populations Of Ceriodaphnia Dubia, Victoria Rose Lydy Feb 2023

Comparing The Toxicant Responses And Culturing Characteristics Of Long-Term Laboratory-Reared And Field Populations Of Ceriodaphnia Dubia, Victoria Rose Lydy

Student Theses and Dissertations

Ceriodaphnia dubia is an EPA-recommended organism used in regulatory toxicity testing of surface waters and commercial chemicals. They are often cultured for extended periods in the laboratory with little knowledge of how it impacts subsequent generations. This thesis investigated if C. dubia cultured for an extended period were representative of three recently-collected field populations by comparing their culturing characteristics and sensitivities to toxicants. Comparative chronic toxicity tests with sodium chloride, the neonicotinoid insecticide thiamethoxam, and mixtures of the two toxicants measured differences in sensitivities among the laboratory and field cultures, specifically in the variability of responses. For culturing characteristics, the …

Picture Gorge Basalt: Internal Stratigraphy, Eruptive Patterns, And Its Importance For Understanding Columbia River Basalt Group Magmatism, Emily Bogdan Cahoon, Martin J. Streck, Anthony A.P. Koppers

Geology Faculty Publications and Presentations

The Picture Gorge Basalt (PGB) of the Columbia River Basalt Group (CRBG) has been previously thought to be limited in its eruptive volume (<3000 >km3) and thought to not extend far from its type locality. At present, PGB represents only 1.1 vol% of the CRBG with a relatively limited spatial distribution of ~10,000 km2. New age data illustrate that the PGB is the earliest and longest eruptive unit compared to other main-phase CRBG formations and that some dated basaltic flows reach far (~100 km) beyond the previously mapped extent. This study focuses on extensive outcrops of …

Recovering The Art Of Testimony, As Embodied Within The Historical Black Church, As A Missionally Formative Practice, Christopher Cobbler

DMin Project Theses

This February 2023 Doctor of Ministry project thesis at Lipscomb University aims to consider how the art of testimony, as embodied within the traditional Black church, functions as missionally formative practice. The purpose of this project is to examine the ways testimony service can be utilized to reimagine an alternative eschatological community in a postmodern society. Testimony, in the historical Black Church, was a central component to the life of the congregation; it served as a tool to shape and navigate the theological imagination within a particular community, it cultivated and nurtured centered belonging and was a primary vehicle for …

Ecosystems constantly change, yet managers often lack information to move beyond static habitat assumptions. As human impacts and geographic information systems advance, it is important and feasible to quantify past habitat boundary shifts to inform management decisions (e.g. protective perimeters) robust to near-term habitat changes. This is the case in eelgrass (Zostera spp.), an ecosystem engineer that forms dynamic, often protected meadows. Practitioners protect areas to avoid human stress to eelgrass, but they can lack quantitative descriptions of the near-term potential for eelgrass meadows to shift into unprotected areas. Here, we quantified interannual eelgrass meadow boundary shifts within 23 sites …
