Bible A, Beginning Of Galatians, Unknown Dec 1199

Bible A, Beginning Of Galatians, Unknown

Sacred Leaves Manuscript Collection

The Epistle of Paul to the Galatians begins with Paul shaming them for allowing themselves to be taught by a gospel of man and not that of Jesus Christ. The figure initial "P," which begins the incipit to Galatians, shows Paul seated and holding a sword, as a symbol of his martyrdom.

Bible A, Leaf With The Beginning Of Hebrews, Recto, Unknown Dec 1199

Bible A, Leaf With The Beginning Of Hebrews, Recto, Unknown

Sacred Leaves Manuscript Collection

The authorship of the Book of Hebrews was attributed to Paul at the end of the second century. Unlike the many Epistles of Paul, Hebrews contains no formal salutation, which indicates that the Book was originally intended as a homily or treatise written for believers everywhere, as opposed to being addressed to one particular group. The prologue begins with an illuminated "I." The historiated "M" depicts Paul, with the halo to the left, in discussion with a Hebrew to the right (in the pointed hat, worn by and symbolic of Jews in thirteenth century Europe).

Bible A, Leaf With The Beginning Of Philemon, Unknown Dec 1199

Bible A, Leaf With The Beginning Of Philemon, Unknown

Sacred Leaves Manuscript Collection

Philemon is addressed to the master of the slave Onesimus. Paul pleads with Philemon, his friend at Colosse, to take back Onesimus, not as his slave, but as his Christian brother. The epistle emphasizes the importance of Christian love as the primary director of human interaction as Paul begs Philemon to forgive and accept his fugitive slave as his friend and partner in the Gospel.

Leaf From A Lectionary, Germany, Verso, Unknown Dec 1099

Leaf From A Lectionary, Germany, Verso, Unknown

Sacred Leaves Manuscript Collection

A Lectionary is the combination of an Evangelary and an Epistolary. As Missals began emerging sometime after the twelfth century and contained all the necessary texts for the Mass, Lectionaries became obsolete. They were often torn apart and the pages reused as bindings for more up-to-date service books. The survival of this leaf as a binding attests to the constant reuse of vellum, an expensive item for churches and monasteries.

The method of reading and writing about literature is undergoing a major change. The root of this change rests in the "structural" revolution that swept through the physical and social sciences early in this century. Rather than seeing the physical world as a collection of objects " out there," the structuralists demonstrated that " reality" was partially created by human consciousness. To quote Terence Hawks on the structural revolution, " any observer is bound to create something of what he observes. Accordingly, the relationship between observer and observed achieves a kind of primacy. It becomes the only thing that can …

Trauma And The Use Of Formal And Informal Resources In The Deaf Population: Perspectives From Mental Health Service Providers, Stephanie W. Cawthon, Bentley W. Fink, Paige Johnson, Sarah Schoffstall, Erica Wendel

JADARA

Using grounded theory analysis, the current study identifies the perspectives of therapists and counselors regarding the nature of informal and formal resources supporting the treatment of deaf individuals with trauma. Nineteen counselors and therapists were interviewed, and accessibility, formal support, informal networks, and gaps in resources were identified as salient themes. Subsequent analysis identified concerns with confidentiality as a strong theme. This study emphasizes the need for counselors and therapists to become mindful of utilizing resources to support the treatment of trauma while being concerned with confidentiality.

The Rise In Stunting In Relation To Avian Influenza And Food Consumption Patterns In Lower Egypt In Comparison To Upper Egypt: Results From 2005 And 2008 Demographic And Health Surveys, Justine A. Kavle, Fatima El-Zanaty, Megan Landry, Rae Galloway Dec 214

The Rise In Stunting In Relation To Avian Influenza And Food Consumption Patterns In Lower Egypt In Comparison To Upper Egypt: Results From 2005 And 2008 Demographic And Health Surveys, Justine A. Kavle, Fatima El-Zanaty, Megan Landry, Rae Galloway

Prevention and Community Health Faculty Publications

Background

A 2006 avian influenza (AI) outbreak resulted in mass removal of chickens in Lower Egypt, which decreased the household supply of poultry. Poultry, a key animal-source food, contains nutrients critical for child growth. This paper examines determinants of stunting between 2006 and 2008 in children 6 to 59 months of age within the context of the AI outbreak.

Methods

The 2005 and 2008 nationally representative Egypt Demographic and Health Surveys (EDHS) were used to analyse anthropometric data from 7,794 children in 2005 and 6,091 children in 2008. Children, 6–59 months of age, with length for age Z-score < −2 S.D. were categorized as stunted. Predictors of stunting were examined by bivariate and multivariable analyses, focusing on Lower Egypt, where a rise in stunting occurred, and Upper Egypt, where stunting declined.

Essentially A Mother, Jennifer S. Hendricks

William & Mary Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice

This article connects the constitutional jurisprudence of the family to debates over reproductive technology and surrogacy. Despite the outpouring of literature on reproductive technologies, courts and scholars have paid little attention to the constitutional foundation of parental rights. Focusing on the structural/political function of parental rights, this article argues that a gestational mother has a constitutional claim to be recognized as a legal parent.

The article first discusses the "unwed father cases." Despite believing that natural sex differences justified distinctions in parental rights, the Supreme Court crafted a test giving men parental rights if they established relationships with their biological …
