Cdt-1d Cnn Integration With Simpson-Sobolev Regularization For High-Frequency Options Trading: With Fem-Based Heston Option Pricing, Daniel M. Margolis, Johannes Tausch, Arthur K. Selender

Mathematics Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation presents a computational framework for high-frequency options trading that combines Cross-Data-Type 1-D Convolutional Neural Networks (CDT-1D CNN) with Simpson-Sobolev regularization for directional prediction, and finite element methods (FEM) for realistic option pricing during backtesting. The core innovation lies in developing a mathematically rigorous regularization approach that maintains the adaptability of modern deep learning while enabling accurate evaluation through stochastic volatility models. The primary contribution is the Simpson-Sobolev regularization scheme, which extends traditional Sobolev regularization by incorporating Simpson’s rule for numerical integration. This approach achieves higher-order accuracy in approximating the Sobolev norms that control function smoothness. Simpson’s rule attains …

Adaptive Sports Program & Wellness Initiatives For Individuals With Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Beyond The Service Cliff, Jordan Pare, Erin K. Wells

OTD DEx Reports - College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Young adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disability over the age twenty-one face significant barriers to accessing support in mental health, physical activity, and social communication opportunities due to the loss of federal educational entitlement at this age. Individuals with a disability who lose their educational funding at age twenty-one may be forced into underfunded and uncoordinated systems for support, also known as the service cliff. This paper evaluates the benefits of implementing an adaptive sports program for this population, which research suggests can foster social and physical needs while influencing executive functioning in mental health. The benefits of providing education …

Toward Intentional Praxis: A Design Thinking Multi-Case Study Of Cognitive-Constructive Toolkit Implementation In An Elementary Professional Learning Community, Azam Nathaniel

Dissertations

Among several learning theories that were dynamic and constantly evolving with time, cognitive and constructive theories were predominant in the field of education. However, these theories often included overlapping and contrasting concepts, contributing to confusion in terminology among teachers and limited explicit use in instructional practice. Within the context of K-12 education, teachers demonstrated conceptual awareness of cognitive and constructive learning theories; however, the theories were not a part of day-to-day conversations and were minimally identified in practice. Instead, the theories were implicitly applied as teachers balanced competing professional responsibilities, including daily routines, syllabus requirements, district standards, new initiatives, differentiated …

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) exhibits diversity in pigmentation and leaf morphology, yet the genetic architecture and regulatory organisation underlying these traits remain poorly resolved, particularly with respect to organ-specific control. We hypothesised that phenotypic variation is governed by clustered genetic modules comprising regulatory and structural genes operating in an organ-specific manner. To test this, we conducted genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using 4.6 million SNPs across 260 diverse accessions, integrated with transcriptomic, haplotype and functional analyses. GWAS identified two tandem clusters of MYB transcription factors on chromosome 5 as the primary regulators of leaf anthocyanin accumulation. Expression profiling, heterologous expression and …

Ethos: A Computational Framework For Material Culture Research, Chelsea L. Grafe Jul 2026

Ethos: A Computational Framework For Material Culture Research, Chelsea L. Grafe

Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Museum catalog records make large collections searchable, but they do not always preserve the reasoning behind the claims they contain. A record may present a quilt's identity as settled while leaving the reasoning behind that claim invisible, making it difficult for later researchers to check, question, or reuse. This project asks whether museum catalog data can be analyzed in a way that keeps each analytical claim connected to the evidence that supports it. To test this question, the project applies a material-first computational framework named Ethos. Ethos formalizes an object-centered inquiry sequence in which material dependencies establish where analysis begins …

Household Water Use For Circular Transitions: Elasticity Estimates And Circular Economy Signals From Metro Manila, Albert E. Lamberte, Abed Alaswad, Luciano C. Batista Jul 2026

Household Water Use For Circular Transitions: Elasticity Estimates And Circular Economy Signals From Metro Manila, Albert E. Lamberte, Abed Alaswad, Luciano C. Batista

Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies (AKI)

The study examines household water demand in Metro Manila and evaluates how demand behavior and infrastructure access shape the transition from a linear to a circular water and wastewater economy. Estimated prices, ranging from -0.441 to 0.468, and income elasticities, which are between 0.550 and 0.572, for those with and without access to both water and sewerage systems reveal consistently inelastic demand. Thus, water is treated as a necessity with limited behavioral responsiveness to tariff changes. The similarity of elasticities across service groups suggests that behavioral factors are not the primary constraint to circularity. Instead, the findings highlight that infrastructure …

Treatment-related grade 3-4 adverse …

Evolution, Structuration Theory, And New Research On Free Will, James Lull Jul 2026

Evolution, Structuration Theory, And New Research On Free Will, James Lull

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Classic structuration theory explains how social actors use their personal and collective agency to contend with the structural forces they encounter in everyday life. The antonimous interface between structure and agency is analyzed from an evolutionary communication perspective as it applies to structuration theory generally and to media audiences specifically. The explanatory power of structuration theory is then reconsidered in light of new research on an eternally profound question: Is the power of human agency restricted, if not entirely eliminated, by a lack of free will that can be exercised in human endeavors? Although the nature of structural influence is …

Nascent Titanium-/Silicon-Containing Particle Formation In Corona-Discharge-Assisted Combustion, Chanakya Bagya Ramesh, Frank Daoru Han, Yang Wang

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Adding plasmas to a flame has been shown to introduce high concentrations of charges, ions, and radicals to the said flame. This technique of adding plasma to a flame is called plasma-assisted combustion (PAC), and this addition has been shown to make a flame more stable and efficient. At the same time, PAC has also been shown to alter particle formation during combustion. Here, we investigate the effect of a high-frequency (∼21 kHz) alternating current (AC) corona discharge on particle formation and growth in a premixed flame, especially at the initial stages (with particle sizes below 10 nm). We first …

The study of diet and nutrition is often filled with numerous myths and misconceptions. A Google Scholar search of “diets health” yields over 4 million results. This review examines frequently asked questions about diets and dietary habits. These questions include the following: 1) Is a caloric surplus necessary for building skeletal muscle? 2) Is it possible to lose body mass or fat mass without caloric restriction? 3) Is intermittent fasting better than chronic caloric restriction for weight loss? 4) Are there sex differences in the response to fasting? 5) Can diet alone fulfill the macro and micronutrient needs of exercise-trained …

How Wounded Healer Trainees Develop Self-Awareness Of Their Wounds And Use This Self-Awareness In Clinical Work, Nishi Ravi Jul 2026

How Wounded Healer Trainees Develop Self-Awareness Of Their Wounds And Use This Self-Awareness In Clinical Work, Nishi Ravi

Dissertations (1934 -)

The wounded healer, a concept originally introduced by Carl Jung (1951), characterizes individuals who, having undergone personal struggles or ‘wounding,’ feel inclined to alleviate the suffering of others. Extant literature attests to the prevalence of woundedness among counseling professionals and to the potential benefits and risks their wounds pose in clinical practice. Despite its widespread use across the literature, the wounded healer concept has yet to be formally and empirically operationalized, and this study addresses that gap by offering a concrete, empirically grounded definition of the construct. Yet, while wounded healers are increasingly recognized across counseling training contexts, little research …

Carrying The Midwife’S Bag Across The Atlantic: German Midwives And Paraprofessional Midwifery In The Us, 1850s-1920s, Melanie Simone Lorenz Jul 2026

Carrying The Midwife’S Bag Across The Atlantic: German Midwives And Paraprofessional Midwifery In The Us, 1850s-1920s, Melanie Simone Lorenz

Dissertations (1934 -)

This dissertation compares the occupational development of midwifery in the United States and Germany between the 1850s and the 1920s. It examines how midwifery in nineteenth-century Germany developed into an early paraprofession through its inclusion in the paramedical division of labor and the creation of professional associations and a trade journal. In the United States, by contrast, such a development did not occur. Instead, physicians excluded midwives from the emerging paramedical division of labor. Even though a dedicated group of German American physicians and midwives attempted to replicate the German model of midwifery in St. Louis, Missouri, this paraprofessional form …

Coping With Uncertainty In Everyday Situations (Cues©): The U.S. Pilot Study, Sarah Lehman

Dissertations (1934 -)

Autistic youth experience anxiety at an increased rate compared to their neurotypical counterparts. The presence of anxiety often amplifies the social and functional difficulties faced by autistic youth, which can exacerbate poor outcomes. Intolerance of uncertainty (IU), defined as negative beliefs and reactions to unpredictable or ambiguous situations, has been identified as a key factor to the manifestation of anxiety in autistic populations. The current study aimed to replicate the protocol and results from Rodgers et al. (2023) by conducting the first U.S. pilot study examining the feasibility and efficacy of Coping with Uncertainty in Everyday Situations (CUES©); an 8-week …

Background and aims: The terminology for hepatic steatosis and NAFLD was revised under the umbrella of steatotic liver disease, with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) as the primary subtype. MASLD is defined by hepatic steatosis plus at least 1 cardiometabolic risk factor. A new category, Met-ALD, describes MASLD with alcohol consumption below the defined thresholds for alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). While adult studies have demonstrated strong concordance between NAFLD and MASLD, the applicability of this framework in children remains unclear.

Approach and results: We assessed children clinically diagnosed with NAFLD and enrolled in the NASH CRN who had available …

Quantization Dimension For A Generalized Inhomogeneous Bi-Lipschitz Iterated Function System, Shivam Dubey, Mrinal Kanti Roychowdhury, Saurabh Verma

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

For a given r∈(0,+∞), the quantization dimension of order r, if it exists, denoted by Dr(μ), of a Borel probability measure μ on Rd represents the speed how fast the nth quantization error of order r approaches to zero as the number of elements n in an optimal set of n-means for μ tends to infinity. If Dr(μ) does not exists, we call D̲r(μ) and D¯r(μ), the lower and upper quantization dimensions of μ of order r. In this paper, we estimate the quantization dimension of condensation measures associated with condensation systems ({fi}i=1N,(pi)i=0N,ν), where the …
