Dashar: An Implementation Of Augmented Reality Technology For Automotive Applications, Trevor D. Brown
Dashar: An Implementation Of Augmented Reality Technology For Automotive Applications, Trevor D. Brown
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Since the advent of the modern automobile, manufacturers have provided means of tracking various critical data points associated with automobile operation, with the most prominent and standardized method being the instrument cluster. These data points include, but are not limited to, automobile speed, engine speed, fuel level, oil temperature, radiator (water) temperature, and battery charge. While this data is updated in real-time as the automobile is running, traditional instrument clusters cannot be modified or adjusted to the automobile driver’s needs, unless extensive after-market modifications are made. These modifications can be expensive, and require great understanding of the automobile’s assembly.

“I’M Anywhere In The Country That Has A National Park”: Seasonal National Park Service Employee Organizational Identification Targets, Rachel Taylor
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Organizational Identification research is well established and explores the concept of individual oneness to a larger human collective yet often focuses on traditional types of work. Seasonal work carried out by National Park Service (NPS) employees is a non-traditional form of work entirely dependent on the organization's needs in a particular season, typically summer. Literature regarding seasonal work often focuses on types of hospitality organizations, rather than the NPS. This study sought to understand how the unique situation of seasonal workers may have influenced their identification with multiple organizational targets. Through qualitative interviews with 12 individuals who have been seasonal …

Uncovering Potential: How Kentucky Districts Identify And Support Hispanic Students In Gifted And Talented Programs, Melanie Gilzene
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This qualitative study investigates the strategies and processes utilized by six school districts in Kentucky to identify Hispanic English Language Learner (ELL) students for gifted and talented services. Using interviews with gifted and talented coordinators, the research explores how certain Kentucky districts address challenges in traditional identification methods, such as language and cultural biases, through specific tools and practices. Key themes include the limitations of standardized assessments, the significance of professional learning and cultural competency training for educators, and the implementation of inclusive and equitable referral processes. The findings underscore the importance of culturally responsive assessments, local norms, and alternative …

No. 87: Mythologies Of Mixed Migration And The Southern Route, Jonathan Crush, Zack Ahmed
Southern African Migration Programme
In Africa, various international organizations have promoted “mixed migration” as a new governance challenge requiring innovative policy responses. The narrative, which has been repurposed from discussions on African migration to Europe to include intra-African movements, positions migration flows as primarily irregular, organized and driven by smugglers, and requiring tight control by states. This report shows that textual and cartographic representations of the so-called Southern Route are a form of cartopolitics, constructing migration as a permanent flow of irregular migrants from a singular origin toward a common destination. By portraying migration as solely a function of smuggling and coercion, the Southern …

This essay was originally published in Balkinization as part of an online symposium and it is reprinted with permission. The essay engages with Julie Suk's book, After Misogyny: How the Law Fails Women and What to Do About It. It suggests that feminist legal scholars have been considering their intellectual options in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. In After Misogyny, Professor Suk offers a conceptual path forward in a post-Dobbs world. Suk’s trenchant analysis of the failure of law to render substantive gender equality and her …
Associations Between Observance Of Orthodox Jewish Mourning Rituals And The Psychological Processes Of Meaning Making And Religious Coping Following Loss: A Quantitative Study, Kayla Reich M.S.
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
While grief is a deeply individualized experience, research suggests that some coping mechanisms—such as meaning making—promote healthier psychological adjustment. Jewish mourning rituals may support meaning making, yet few studies have quantitatively examined this relationship. The present study investigated the association between observance of early Jewish mourning stages (i.e., aninut, levayah, and shiva) and both meaning making and adaptive religious coping. A sample of 60 Orthodox Jewish adults who had experienced the loss of a first-degree relative between one and five years prior to the start of the study completed measures of mourning observance, meaning making, and Jewish religious coping. Results …
One Horse Power: The Environmental Consequences Of Horseback Riding Trails In Protected Areas And National Parks, Briana Kupic
One Horse Power: The Environmental Consequences Of Horseback Riding Trails In Protected Areas And National Parks, Briana Kupic
Hospitality Graduate Student Scholarship
Horseback riding is one of the traditional forms of recreation in national parks and protected areas, and can give visitors a special chance to explore these beautiful natural areas from a different perspective. However, the activity has raised concerns for its perceived effects on the environment. This paper synthesizes and reviews secondary literature on the environmental effects of horseback riding, and identifies four broad themes: disturbance to wildlife, degradation of water quality, loss of vegetation, and soil erosion. The evidence indicates that equines have the potential to inflict far greater trail damage and ecological impact than other trail participants, including …

The Impact Of Coral Degradation On Coastal Communities In Southeast Asia, Paige Smith
The Impact Of Coral Degradation On Coastal Communities In Southeast Asia, Paige Smith
Ballard Brief
Coral reefs across the globe are in decline, but reefs in Southeast Asia are among some of the most threatened in the world. Climate change, triggered by fossil fuel emissions, raises sea water temperatures and lowers the ocean’s pH, contributing to coral bleaching and inhibiting coral growth. Local threats also particularly affect reefs in Southeast Asia, such as destructive fishing techniques and marine and inland sources of pollution. Coastal communities in Southeast Asia are especially vulnerable to the degradation of coral reefs due to economic reliance on these reefs and their proximity to them. Declining coral reefs can damage the …
Lack Of Integration Between Western Medicine And Complementary And Alternative Medicine (Cam) For Treating Adults In America, Kaylee Burrill
Lack Of Integration Between Western Medicine And Complementary And Alternative Medicine (Cam) For Treating Adults In America, Kaylee Burrill
Ballard Brief
There is a lack of integration between Western Medicine and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) for treating adults in America. Communication barriers, differing approaches to healthcare, and skepticism coupled with a lack of education prevent integration. As a result, patients suffer financial burdens, are unsatisfied with incomplete and insufficient care, and the US healthcare system becomes more fragmented. Integrative medicine provides a holistic, patient centered, evidence-based solution by combining the safest and most effective practices of Western medicine and CAM in a coordinated way. Exploring The Lived Experiences Of People With Adverse Childhood Experiences Who Have Graduated From College And Broken The Cycle Of Generational Poverty, Darlene Denmark-Brown
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) as defined by Drs. Felitti and Anda are prevalent in the general population of the United States. These childhood traumas have a profound and lasting impact on emotional, psychological, and social development, often disrupting academic trajectories and life outcomes. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of six college graduates in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, who endured high levels of ACEs yet succeeded in overcoming adversity to achieve academic and personal success. Guided by Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory and resilience theory (Garmezy & Streitman, 1974), semi-structured interviews were conducted to examine the effects of …

A Phenomenological Study Of The Lived Experiences Of Online Business Faculty During The Transition To Offering Online Programs, Joseph Andrew Bakker
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand the experiences of online business faculty at private nonprofit postsecondary institutions as their online programs were launched. The experiences of how business faculty encounter teaching online in new online business degree programs are essential for institutional leaders and faculty seeking to start new online programs at their institutions. The qualitative study used semi-structured interviews to gather the experiences of 10 business faculty at private nonprofit institutions who taught online and experienced their departments implementing a new online degree program. The participants' experiences were analyzed using Kotter’s (2012) theory for leading change. …
Policing As General Warrants, Warren Buff, Brandon Hasbrouck
Policing As General Warrants, Warren Buff, Brandon Hasbrouck
Scholarly Articles
The drafters of the Bill of Rights and its proponents envisioned a document constitutionalizing protections against some of the worst abuses they had experienced under English rule. Prominent businessmen—many of them engaged in smuggling— found their homes ransacked in search of contraband on flimsy evidence and without any reason given for the disruption of their business and consequent enrichment of government agents. The Fourth Amendment addressed the use of general warrants and writs of assistance to allow government agents to conduct broad searches with limited scrutiny. In the early years of the Constitution, this had little practical effect, because public …

Impact Of Physical Intimate Partner Violence Victimization On Jamaican Women’S Mental Health: The Moderating Effects Of Adverse Childhood Experiences, Kerry A. Lee, Sharon Rose Priestley, Kevin K. Hylton
Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research Faculty Research and Scholarship
Purpose: Few studies have examined the relationship between IPV victimization and mental health outcomes and the moderating role of ACEs in this relationship among Jamaican women. Using trauma theory to undergird this study, we examined the relationship between physical IPV victimization and depressive symptoms and anxiety while accounting for the moderating effects of ACEs on these relationships among Jamaican women.
Methods: Univariate and ordinary least squares regression (OLS) analyses were performed using data from the 2016 National Women’s Health Survey, a nationally representative sample of Jamaican women aged 15 to 64.
Results: Experience of physical IPV victimization was found …

Evaluating Distractions Of Undergraduate Students During Guided And Unguided Study Sessions, Roni Peleg
Masters Theses
In this study, we explore an intervention strategy aimed at decreasing distractions while studying. The participant was a third-year undergraduate psychology student with a concentration in neuroscience who did not have a personal structured study system. The researcher measured the percent of intervals in which a distraction occurred using interval recording during baseline and intervention phases. During the intervention phase, the participant was introduced to the productivity method referred to as the Pomodoro Ⓡ Technique. Using a reversal design, data were analyzed based on levels of distraction during baseline and intervention phases. The goal of this study was to evaluate …
Implementing Skill Based Treatment Within A Classroom Setting For Students With Autism: A Systematic Replication In An Alternative School Based Setting, Hayley Getz
Masters Theses
The purpose of this research was to demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of implementing the Interview-Informed Synthesized Contingency Analysis (IISCA) and Skill Based Treatment (SBT) in an alternative classroom setting with students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There is much existing research that supports both in a clinical setting, however the school setting is lacking in research. The goal of this study was to teach three students with ASD who engage in challenging behaviors an appropriate way to communicate their needs, how to tolerate the removal of a preferred toy or activity, and to follow educational instructions instead of …

An Algorithm And Computation To Verify Legendre's Conjecture Up 7 · 1013, Jonathan Sorenson, Jonathan Webster
Computer Science and Software Engineering
We state a general purpose algorithm for quickly finding primes in evenly divided sub-intervals. Legendre’s conjecture claims that for every positive integer n, there exists a prime between n2 and (n + 1)2. Oppermann’s conjecture subsumes Legendre’s conjecture by claiming there are primes between n2 and n(n + 1) and also between n(n + 1) and (n + 1)2. Using Cramér’s conjecture as the basis for a heuristic run-time analysis, we show that our algorithm can verify Oppermann’s conjecture, and hence also Legendre’s conjecture, for all n ≤ N in time O(N log N log …
