Our project sought to integrate the Leadership at 20 text with current material in the Foundations of Leadership Studies course. In doing so we enhanced the students' perspective and understanding of leadership studies. To foster a smooth transition we have developed a teacher's manual that provide3s activities, which parallel the readings to ensure that these materials are used in an effective and efficient manner.

The purpose of this project is to take two fields of study, Leadership Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies (a.k.a. Peace Studies), and critically analyze how both can mutually benefit each other. For this purpose, a proposed model of an academic course combining the two fields of study in the form of a conceptual syllabus will be included in the appendix. The Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond initiated a program entitled the Art of Teaching Leadership in the summer of 1998. This project was a continuation of several years of work attempting to integrate leadership into elementary, middle and high school curriculum. This project adds new insight into the realm of K-12 (kindergarten through twelfth grade) leadership curriculum. About thirty K-12 teachers came together from various schools throughout the Richmond community as well as from Cape Town, South Africa and Namibia to attend the one-week pilot program. Before exploring the legitimacy of leadership studies as an academic field of study, we will first explore the characteristics of a liberal arts education and establish its legitimacy (through historical analyses) as the "standard" of higher education in America, and the educational approach most associated with cultivating an enlightened citizenry in a democratic society. While reading Servant Leadership by Robert GreenLeaf and other studies on servant leadership, the idea of comparing Jesus' life to servant leadership became an area of interest. The leadership style of Jesus seemed to be a good area for my research given my interest in religion and my course work in leadership education.
