Medical dosimetry is constantly evolving as new techniques emerge to improve plan quality. The Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS) is equipped with the entrance and exit dose avoidance tool commonly used to prevent beam interaction with implanted metals or steer the beam away from anatomical regions. Current literature shows this tool has not been thoroughly investigated for more fundamental applications such as routine organ at risk (OAR) sparing. Xerostomia remains a lasting side effect for head-and-neck cancer (HNC) patients after the salivary glands receive substantial radiation. This study takes a more detailed look at the tool’s effectiveness when applied to …

Providence Rebranded: Progress, Neoliberalism, And The Teleology Of Late Modernit, Michael Carter Jul 2026

Providence Rebranded: Progress, Neoliberalism, And The Teleology Of Late Modernit, Michael Carter

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Providence, as imagined by early Christian thinkers under the influence of Greek philosophy, denoted the divine preservation, governance, and ordering of creation throughout history, providing a teleological framework through which events could be understood as moving in an intelligible and ultimately meaningful direction. From the Enlightenment forward, this teleological framework was gradually secularized, and its assumptions about historical direction and order were recast as attributes of progress. Drawing on Michel Foucault’s concept of episteme and Fernand Braudel’s longue durée, this work surveys how the teleological framework of providential theology has been inherited, modified, and rearticulated to provide existential orientation, moral …

Social Sciences and Development Review

Among the studies on our nation’s history, the schools of historical thought that have long inspired and guided us while we delve into the past stand out. There are the Filipino lens by Rizal, the “nationalist history” by Agoncillo and Constantino, the “history from below” by Ileto, the pantayong pananaw (from-ours-to-ours perspective) by Salazar, and the kaloobang bayan (nation’s virtues) by Villan. Laudable are these contributions by our esteemed historians, since they help us in digging deeper into what has our race experienced. However, by and large, the studies have not yet fully grasped what our nation’s history is really …

Who’S To Blame? The Politics Of Recognition In Ayta Land Claims Under Ipra, John Albert R. Dela Rosa

Social Sciences and Development Review

With the enactment of the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA) in 1997, the Philippines became one of the first Asian countries to legally recognize and protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Yet many Indigenous communities continue to struggle to realize the very promises that the law was intended to fulfill. This paper therefore examines how IPRA has shaped—and continues to shape—the Ayta’s efforts to assert ownership and control over their ancestral domain. Drawing on multi-sited ethnography conducted in selected Ayta communities, the study reveals that IPRA remains a paradox. While it has heightened the Ayta’s awareness of their rights and …
