Llm2rec: Large Language Models Are Powerful Embedding Models For Sequential Recommendation, Yingzhi He, Xiaohao Liu, An Zhang, Yunshan Ma, Tat‑Seng Chua
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Sequential recommendation aims to predict users' future interactions by modeling collaborative filtering (CF) signals from historical behaviors of similar users or items. Traditional sequential recommenders predominantly rely on ID-based embeddings, which capture CF signals through high-order co-occurrence patterns. However, these embeddings depend solely on past interactions, lacking transferable knowledge to generalize to unseen domains. Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) have motivated text-based recommendation approaches that derive item representations from textual descriptions. While these methods enhance generalization, they fail to encode CF signals-i.e., latent item correlations and preference patterns-crucial for effective recommendation. We argue that an ideal embedding model …
Equivalence And Similarity Refutation For Probabilistic Programs, Krishnendu Chatterjee, Ehsan Kafshdar Goharshady, Petr Novotný, Dorde Zikelic
Equivalence And Similarity Refutation For Probabilistic Programs, Krishnendu Chatterjee, Ehsan Kafshdar Goharshady, Petr Novotný, Dorde Zikelic

We consider the problems of statically refuting equivalence and similarity of output distributions defined by a pair of probabilistic programs. Equivalence and similarity are two fundamental relational properties of probabilistic programs that are essential for their correctness both in implementation and in compilation. In this work, we present a new method for static equivalence and similarity refutation. Our method refutes equivalence and similarity by computing a function over program outputs whose expected value with respect to the output distributions of two programs is different. The function is computed simultaneously with an upper expectation supermartingale and a lower expectation submartingale for …

Advancing Molecular Graph-Text Pre-Training Via Fine-Grained Alignment, Yibo Li, Yuan Fang, Mengmei Zhang, Chuan Shi
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Understanding molecular structure and related knowledge is crucialfor scientific research. Recent studies integrate molecular graphswith their textual descriptions to enhance molecular representationlearning. However, they focus on the whole molecular graph andneglect frequently occurring subgraphs, known as motifs, whichare essential for determining molecular properties. Without suchfine-grained knowledge, these models struggle to generalize to un-seen molecules and tasks that require motif-level insights. To bridgethis gap, we propose FineMolTex, a novel Fine-grained Moleculargraph-Text pre-training framework to jointly learn coarse-grainedmolecule-level knowledge and fine-grained motif-level knowledge.Specifically, FineMolTex consists of two pre-training tasks: a con-trastive alignment task for coarse-grained matching and a maskedmulti-modal modeling task for …

A Systematic Review Of School-Based Behavioral Interventions And The Symbolic Labor Of Inclusion For Children With Chronic Illness, Efthymia Efthymiou, Dimitra V. Katsarou, Maria Sofologi, Kalliopi Megari, Soultana Papadopoulou, Evangelos Mantsos, Salma Daiban

Background: Chronic illness affects children’s health and disrupts the spatial and temporal aspects of schooling by complicating attendance, interrupting learning routines, and exposing institutional rigidity. While many educational systems treat chronicity as an exception to be managed, this review reconceptualizes it as a pedagogical and symbolic challenge to normative assumptions about inclusion, care, and participation. Objective: To systematically examine how school-based behavioral and psychosocial interventions support children and adolescents with chronic health conditions (CHCs) in inclusive educational settings and to analyze what these interventions reveal about institutional practices of care and recognition. Methods: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we conducted a …
Cultivating Identity, Workforce Readiness, And Heutagogical Lifelong Learning: The Case For Student-Trained Ai Agents In Postsecondary Education, James Hutson
Faculty Scholarship
The accelerated integration of human-centered artificial intelligence and human-computer intelligent interaction (HCII) into postsecondary education has inaugurated a paradigm shift in how learners develop cognitive, socio emotional, and professional competencies. This article argues that requiring students to iteratively build and refine custom AI agents—digital “clones” or GPTs trained on their evolving beliefs, knowledge, values, and interests addresses three pressing challenges facing contemporary higher education. First, the process of self-modeling via agent training compels deep self-reflection, fostering socio-economic development and identity formation during the critical neurodevelopmental period that extends into the mid-twenties. Second, as industry trends increasingly prioritize the creation of …
Advancing Structural Applications Of Nickel Electrodeposition Onto Additively Manufactured Polymers, George W. Thompson
Advancing Structural Applications Of Nickel Electrodeposition Onto Additively Manufactured Polymers, George W. Thompson
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Metal electrodeposition onto polymeric substrates yields a favorable method to produce high-quality components for injection molding and other manufacturing and engineering applications. This work examines the fundamental electrochemical mechanisms involved in the deposition of nickel from a Watts-type electrolyte. It outlines the complex interplay of electrolyte composition and process parameters to optimize deposition quality. Furthermore, this thesis contrasts traditional primary metallization methods with advanced techniques such as silver conductive paint revealing distinct advantages. Evaluations of additive-free and saccharin-enhanced Watts electrolytes demonstrate that saccharin significantly improves surface smoothness, reduces porosity, enhances hardness to over 550 HV, and increases tensile strength up …
