Exploring The Perceptions Of Organizational Justice Issues On Job Satisfaction And Organizational Commitment Of State Prison Staff, Stefani Trajceski

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

High turnover among correctional staff is a persistent challenge faced by institutions across the United States. Previous research has identified various factors influencing staff turnover intentions, with perceptions of fairness in the workplace playing a key role. Organizational justice theory offers a valuable framework for understanding how these perceptions influence job satisfaction and organizational commitment—factors linked to lower absenteeism and turnover intentions, as well as improved job performance and work-life balance. However, limited qualitative research has explored how these dynamics shape correctional staff experiences within state correctional facilities. The purpose of this study was to examine how correctional staff in …

Various generative AI (GenAI) tools are increasingly utilized by students, creating a grey area where it is challenging to determine whether AI is used without violating academic integrity and whether it is assisting or impeding student engagement and success. To our knowledge, there is no definitive way to prove AI ghostwriting. AI is also increasingly utilized to enhance student engagement (Bauer et al., 2025; Chen et al., 2025). Recognizing that GenAI is here to stay, we are interested in finding the best way to leverage GenAI’s benefits while not jeopardizing educational integrity. Hence, the following question guided our efforts: How …

RET solvent-front G810C/R/S mutations confer resistance to the currently approved RET protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) selpercatinib and pralsetinib. Moreover, RET fusion-positive lung adenocarcinoma frequently metastasizes to the brain. To address these challenges, it is imperative to develop a RET TKI that is effective against solvent-front mutations and exhibits intracranial activity. We synthesized alkynyl nicotinamide-based RET TKIs and tested their efficacy in cell cultures in inhibiting selpercatinib/pralsetinib-resistant RET solvent-front mutants G810C/R/S found in cancer patients, and in BaF3/KIF5B-RET(G810C) cell-derived subcutaneous and intracranial tumors in vivo. We also evaluated alkynyl nicotinamide RET TKIs in KIF5B-RET-induced lung tumors in immune competent …

Ai At Work, Algorithmic Bosses, And The Ambivalence Of Automation, Antonio Aloisi, Valerio De Stefano Aug 2025

Ai At Work, Algorithmic Bosses, And The Ambivalence Of Automation, Antonio Aloisi, Valerio De Stefano

All Papers

This chapter revisits a foundational question (“what do bosses do?”) to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping power dynamics in the workplace. Far from neutral tools of optimisation, algorithmic systems increasingly amplify managerial prerogatives, embedding them into automated processes that are difficult to scrutinise or contest. These developments give rise to a paradox: managers and workers are simultaneously augmented and disempowered, caught in systems that intensify control while eroding autonomy. Drawing on legal, organisational, and regulatory perspectives, we argue that existing safeguards, ranging from data protection rights to information and consultation, are ill-equipped to confront this shift. The chapter …

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

We report a novel presentation of autosomal recessive spastic ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS) in a 9-year-old Moroccan male patient born to consanguineous parents, expanding the known clinical spectrum of the disease. The patient presented to a tertiary care hospital in Rabat, Morocco, in 2023. This case presents an unusual phenotype with early-onset epilepsy beginning at age 5, significantly broadening the known phenotypic spectrum of ARSACS. While initial neuroimaging was unremarkable, the patient exhibited classical retinal involvement with bilateral nerve fibre layer thickening. Genetic analysis revealed a previously unreported homozygous frameshift mutation in the SACS gene (c.12429delT), representing the first documented …

The Effects Of Electoral Outcomes And Cross-Party Relationships On Affective Polarization, Jenna Pedersen Aug 2025

The Effects Of Electoral Outcomes And Cross-Party Relationships On Affective Polarization, Jenna Pedersen

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation explores several under-studied aspects of affective polarization through four chapters. The first chapter discusses the history of polarization research and the measurement challenges facing polarization scholars. The second chapter analyzes how electoral outcomes differentially influence Democrats' and Republicans' inparty, outparty, and general affect. I find that winning elections affects both outparty and inparty attitudes, but the size and direction of these effects varies by party: electoral success reduces Republicans' inparty affect, but for Democrats success reduces outparty affect. The third and fourth chapters contain survey experiment data measuring the effects of cross-partisan relationships. I find that positive relationships …

Towards A Modular Compliant Actuator Toolkit, Oliver Smith, Swen E. Gaudl, Pablo Borja

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Compliant Actuators differ from traditional Servo Actuators via the ability to sense and control for forces, in addition to position and velocity. A multitude of concepts exist: force-torque control of brushless DC motors, Series Elastic Actuators (SEAs) featuring a physical elastic element, and Variable Stiffness Actuators (VSA), which use a stiffness control mechanism to modulate the physical stiffness of the elastic element. However, due to the complexity, variety, and prohibitive cost of parts and fabrication, there is a lack of reproduction, which hinders the, development, adoption, and application of such devices. This paper introduces the concept of a Modular Compliant …

Effect Of High Solar Activity On The Orbital Decay Rate Of The 3u Cubesat Dora, Joseph Dubois, Daniel Jacobs, Siddharth Vaidyanathan

Small Satellite Conference

CubeSats developed at universities seldom have propulsion due to cost and complexity constraints and are very commonly deployed from the ISS into orbits where atmospheric drag is significant. Without propulsion, the time to re-entry is a function of the cross section to mass ratio and the space weather. Many cubesats have limited ways of decreasing ram cross section, e.g. pointing into the wind. Hard radiation from solar activity inflates the atmosphere and increases drag. Since the beginning of the cubesat era, the Sun has been unusually quiescent, at a level not seen for 200 years, which has biased expectations for …
