This study aimed to reveal Ibn al-Jinnī's approach in defending Sibawayh against overlooking certain linguistic structures. Such omissions were pointed out by some grammarians, like Ibn al-Sarrāj, which led Ibn al-Jinnī to view them as a derogation of Sibawayh’s efforts in the book. He responded by trying to find reasons to counter those who attacked and undermined Sibawayh, according to his understanding. The reactions of grammarians, linguists, and lexicographers were often similar regarding many examples that Sibawayh overlooked, whether in approval or rejection, as this study will explain. The omissions identified by Ibn al-Jinnī were categorized according to their sources. …

The Colonial Discourse In E. M. Forster’S A Passage To India, Nouh Al-Guzo Aug 2025

The Colonial Discourse In E. M. Forster’S A Passage To India, Nouh Al-Guzo

Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series

This paper differs from the work of scholars who misinterpret E. M. Forster’s political novel A Passage to India as a story emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural friendship between English characters and Indians. While some overlook the fact that Forster employs this intimacy to justify English imperial practices in India, this paper argues otherwise. Throughout his novel, Forster does not imply that the British occupiers do not have the right to rule India or that Indians are equal to the British. On the contrary, he depicts Indians as an inferior race incapable of self-governance, thereby justifying the presence of English …

Arbitrary Conditions According To Article 22 Of The New Jordanian Consumer Protection Law No. 7 Of 2017, Mohammad Al-Momani

Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series

A consumer contract is distinguished from other contracts by the unique characteristics of the parties involved. This distinction arises from their commitments, which are typically unequal: the provider or advertiser is often economically and technically stronger, while the consumer is weaker. Due to the inherent weaknesses in the general provisions of civil law, legislators have had to intervene to protect both the consumer and the provider, as well as to establish provisions that govern the relationship between the consumer and the provider or advertiser. These provisions aim to provide judicial, civil, and administrative protection for the consumer against arbitrary terms. …

Merid-Eq: Multimodal Early Risk Identification For Home Healthcare Equity In Infection Risks, Zidu Xu, Jiyoun Song, Shuang Zhou, Danielle Scharp, Mollie Hobensack, Jingjing Shang, Maxim Topaz

Sigma Foundation for Nursing Research Grant Reports

Annually, three million people in the U.S. receive home healthcare (HHC). Aging-related deterioration, surgical history, and suboptimal home-disinfection practices increase infection risk, which accounts for over 40% of HHC-related hospital or emergency transfers. Critical indicators—such as clinical signs, procedures, and home-hygiene factors—are documented in narrative HHC notes. Converting these unstructured texts into actionable cues requires efficient automation that fits agencies’ limited computing capacity and evolving patient needs. Prior work shows clinicians value context-rich indicators (e.g., “wound deterioration: right thigh with large exudate drainage”) (1). While large language models excel at such tasks, they require extensive resources. Smaller LLMs may offer …

A Guide For Applying Grounded Theory In Qualitative Research, Irja Shaanika, Tiko Iyamu

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Grounded theory (GT) has been applied numerous times in qualitative research across disciplines. Yet, challenges remain in applying it. The challenges are attributed to its complexity, particularly because of its diversity as a research design and data collection method. Consequently, researchers, particularly emerging researchers and postgraduates, are drifting away from the theory. Primarily, the complexity arises from two fronts: (1) confusion, not being able to differentiate between its use as a design strategy and data collection technique, and (2) standardisation, a lack of understanding of when to stop in its iterative process. This study provides a structured, simplistic guide for …

Since mobile phones are increasingly becoming livelihoods-enablers to people in developing economies, inclusive interaction design are critical. This research on the age inclusivity of feature phones was motivated by some observation that elderly users had challenges with adoption of text messaging. We, therefore, hypothesized that elderly people had challenges with texting ‘cash’, ‘cheque’ or ‘visa’ on a feature phone. The paper investigates if the required agility and interface ergonomics were age discriminatory inhibitors of the adoption of text messaging given the diminishing dexterity and cognitive skills of seniors. Using Sen’s (1999) ‘heterogeneity of capabilities’ theory and Davis et al (1989)’s …
