Evaluation Of Achievement Change In Egypt Using Pirls Data, Harry Anthony Patrinos, Maciej Jakubowski, Tomasz Gajderowicz
Evaluation Of Achievement Change In Egypt Using Pirls Data, Harry Anthony Patrinos, Maciej Jakubowski, Tomasz Gajderowicz
Education Reform Faculty and Graduate Students Publications
This study analyzes Egypt's exceptional reading achievement gains during the COVID-19 school closures, a period when most countries experienced declines. Drawing on data from the 2016 and 2021 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), we find a 48-point improvement-equivalent to two years of learning-with notable gains among boys. Using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and projected trend models, we confirm the significance of this rise. Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition attributes only one-third of the improvement to observed factors. The study finds that Egypt's progress likely reflects systemic reforms, but more research is needed to confirm that.

Enhanced Key Generation Method Using Deep Q-Networks Algorithm With Chaotic Maps, Ali A. Mahdi, Mays M. Hoobi
Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity
In contemporary digital environments, exponential cyber threat growth has made cryptographic key generation a critical security challenge. Traditional Pseudo-Random Number Generators (PRNGs) and existing chaos-based methods often exhibit insufficient entropy, limited randomness quality, and inadequate resistance to statistical attacks. Current implementations frequently produce suboptimal entropy values and fail to meet modern cryptographic security standards and rigorous randomness testing protocols. This paper aims to design and implement an advanced cryptographic key generation system that combines Deep Q-Networks (DQN) algorithms with multiple chaotic maps to produce cryptographically secure stream key bits with high randomness and strong resistance to cryptanalytic attacks. The proposed …

Blockchain-Based Accountability: A Systematic Literature Review, Nabeel Z. Tawfeeq, Dujan B. Taha
Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity
The Blockchain algorithm has advanced the accountability and transparency of modern digital infrastructures. Enforcing responsible behavior and data integrity across distributed environments involves several key components, such as smart contracts, access control models, cryptographic techniques, and a decentralized identity framework. Because the blockchain ledger is immutable and transparent, once a transaction is recorded, it cannot be altered without detection, making fraudulent actions easily traceable and thereby ensuring accountability. However, the need for hybrid approaches that combine on-chain and off-chain solutions for an efficient reliability system introduces challenges, including privacy preservation, scalability, and regulatory compliance. This paper analyzes the effective features …

Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have emerged as a transformative technology with applications in critical and often inaccessible environments, including military and security domains. These networks comprise cooperative sensor nodes that gather and relay data to a base station. However, their inherent resource constraints—particularly the non-rechargeable nature of energy—pose a major challenge to network longevity and reliability. Conventional fixed-path transmission protocols exacerbate this issue, as energy-depleted or jammed nodes can disrupt communication, leading to partial or complete data loss. The primary objective of this study is to design and evaluate a structure-free transmission protocol that dynamically adapts data routing in order …

The child quantity-quality (CQQ) trade-off has been extensively studied in economic research since it was first introduced by Becker and Lewis in 1973. Studies have argued that the current economic circumstances and the presence of government aid in education and health determine the existence and extent of the CQQ trade-off. However, there is a dearth of empirically tested research on the possible decreasing effects of social programs on the CQQ trade-off. Using the 2019 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey, this paper seeks to determine the effect of education and health social programs on the CQQ trade-off in the Philippines. Probit models …

Previous studies identified atrophy-based Alzheimer's disease(AD) subtypes linked to distinct clinical symptoms, but their consistency across subtyping approaches remains unclear. This large-scale study evaluates subtype concordance using two data-driven approaches. In this work, we analyzed data from n=10,011 patients across 10 AD cohorts spanning Europe, the US, and Australia, extracting regional volumes using Freesurfer. To characterize atrophy heterogeneity in the AD continuum, we developed a two-step approach, Snowphlake (Staging NeurOdegeneration With PHenotype informed progression timeLine of biomarKErs), to identify subtypes and atrophy-event sequences within each subtype. Results were compared with SuStaIn (Subtype and Stage Inference), which jointly estimates subtypes and …

Little evidence exists of whether decision-making in immersive 360° video is representative of the field setting in sport. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether decision-making performance of a representative exemplar competition specific skill was similar between 360° video and a field task. Fifteen players from skilled junior rugby union pathways and professional rugby union teams in Australia were recruited to complete a 360° video decision-making choice response task involving four attackers and three defenders. Their decision-making was previously assessed in a similar field decision-making task that was representative of rugby game play. Decision-making was scored according to …

Community Battery Storage Systems (CBS) are gaining traction as a shared energy solution to support the growing integration of rooftop solar and electric vehicles. Operating at the neighborhood scale, CBS offers benefits such as grid flexibility, enhanced self-consumption, and cost optimization. This review provides a multidimensional synthesis of CBS developments, examining technical design, ownership structures, regulatory conditions, and community engagement. By analyzing pilot projects and demonstration trials, the paper identifies recurring challenges – including inconsistent tariff structures, limited financial viability, and unclear market roles – that constrain scalability. It also highlights emerging strategies such as Local Use of Service (LUoS) …

Exercise is increasingly recognized by patients, clinicians, and allied health professionals globally as an important component of cancer care. In this paper, we provide a viewpoint on developments in exercise oncology over the past 4 decades leading up to the creation of the International Society of Exercise Oncology (ISEO). We briefly review research in adult and pediatric cancers from early foundation studies to larger randomized controlled trials published in mainstream oncology journals alongside critical work undertaken in exercise and cancer biological mechanisms. We also discuss potential strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing ISEO in becoming a global forum for exercise …
