Development And Nutritional Evaluation Of Plantain–Soy Composite Flour Blends As Complementary Foods For The Management Of Protein-Energy Malnutrition, Jelili A. Quadri Dr., Azeesat O. Adebiyi-Olabode Dr, Anifat B. Saka Mrs., Debbie M. Esekhade Miss

Indonesian Journal of Public Health Nutrition (IJPHN)

Protein energy malnutrition (PEM) continues to be a critical problem in public health, especially in developing nations where sources of affordable nutrient-dense foods are unavailable. Plantain is one of the staple foods rich in carbohydrates but deficient in protein, while soybeans are protein-rich legumes. A blend of these local foods in composite flour will increase the nutritional value of plantain-based foods without compromising their sensory properties. The objective of this study was to formulate plantain-soy composite flour blends at various substitution rates and determine their composition and sensory characteristics. Unripe plantain and soybean were milled into flour and mixed in …

Dicta’S Danger: The Lingering Nuisance Of Abel V. United States, Meg Penrose Oct 2026

Dicta’S Danger: The Lingering Nuisance Of Abel V. United States, Meg Penrose

University of Miami Law Review

This Article urges judges and lawyers to avoid relying on dicta when making legal claims. Dicta can cause confusion and generate incorrect legal conclusions. The most recent instance of dicta’s danger involves legal guidance on immigration arrests provided by the Department of Homeland Security’s General Counsel. Counsel erroneously relies on dicta from a 1960 Supreme Court case, Abel v. United States, in advising that law enforcement can legally enter a home armed solely with an administrative immigration arrest warrant. They cannot. The cited dicta precede binding Supreme Court precedent holding that the Fourth Amendment draws a firm line at …

A Comprehensive Review On The Role Of Deep Learning For Detecting And Identifying Obscured Objects, Baraa Hasan Hadi, Jamila Harbi Saud

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

Human operators frequently encounter eye fatigue that typically comes from workload and sleep deprivation. This could affect the efficiency and performance of vigilance significantly. In safety-sensitive applications such as traffic systems, healthcare, and security, this issue is essential. To address this issue, there is a need for situational awareness and maintaining continuous monitoring of the workload of the person. To this end, advanced artificial intelligence (AI) methods, denoted by a deep learning (DL) based approach, can be used. Such methods are also supported by computer vision (CV) to detect and identify obscured objects. Combining CV with AI can overcome the …

Beyond Abstracts: Reflections On Locating Institutional Ethnography Studies In Bibliographic Databases And Navigating The Social Organization Of Knowledge, Sonya Hill

Journal of Institutional Ethnography

This article draws on the challenges encountered, discoveries made, and search strategies employed during a scoping review of Institutional Ethnography (IE). While informed by that review process, the article is not a scoping review and does not present review findings. Rather, it reflects on the practical difficulties of locating IE studies in bibliographic databases and offers guidance for researchers seeking to identify, retrieve, and enhance the visibility of IE scholarship. Grounded in my efforts to locate IE studies, the article uses those experiences as an entry point for reflecting on the social organization of knowledge and how database indexing, metadata, …

Interpretative Power And The Social Ontology Of Institutional Ethnography: A Review Of Órla Meadhbh Murray’S University Audit Cultures And Feminist Praxis: An Institutional Ethnography (2025), Breanna Kubat Oct 2026

Interpretative Power And The Social Ontology Of Institutional Ethnography: A Review Of Órla Meadhbh Murray’S University Audit Cultures And Feminist Praxis: An Institutional Ethnography (2025), Breanna Kubat

Journal of Institutional Ethnography

This review critically assesses Órla Meadhbh Murray’s institutional ethnography (IE) of audit culture at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. I center my review on Murray’s argument that interpretive power exists at the local level, and with this, opportunities, although limited, to influence how audit processes are performed at the institutional and departmental levels exist. I propose that Murray’s work provides a practical guide and example of what it means to conduct an IE that is grounded in IE’s social ontology.

Examining The Organization Of Student Work And Wellbeing In Higher Music Education, Kyle Zavitz, Liliana Araújo, Christine Guptill Oct 2026

Examining The Organization Of Student Work And Wellbeing In Higher Music Education, Kyle Zavitz, Liliana Araújo, Christine Guptill

Journal of Institutional Ethnography

This article investigates how music students’ work is institutionally coordinated within a higher school of music in Canada and how this shapes student health and wellbeing. This study reveals a problematic in students’ everyday experiences as the work required to succeed extends beyond what is formally recognized and made visible through institutional structures. Using Institutional Ethnography as the method of inquiry, we begin from the standpoint of music students, exploring the local and extra-local relations that coordinate what and how they do their work. Through interviews with students, faculty, and administrators, we trace students’ negotiation of contradictory discourses of ‘care’ …

Student (Mis)Placement In Swedish Special Education Provision Through Intellectual Disability Labeling: The Educator Standpoint, Liz Adams Lyngback, Enni Paul, Christina Headman Oct 2026

Student (Mis)Placement In Swedish Special Education Provision Through Intellectual Disability Labeling: The Educator Standpoint, Liz Adams Lyngback, Enni Paul, Christina Headman

Journal of Institutional Ethnography

This institutional ethnography exploration begins with the standpoint of educators and focuses on the work related to ways students in Sweden exit the separate compulsory school for students with intellectual disability (CSID) and re-enter the regular compulsory school form through a student referral unit (SRU). By exploring what appears to puzzle the education system at the local level, this study contributes to a growing body of research on addressing multilingualism as a disability. Drawing on multi-sited ethnographic data, the study moves beyond educators’ experience to a broader inquiry into the ruling relations that coordinate the creation of misplaced students. The …

Pics 101: Understanding Post-Incarceration Syndrome, Nicole L. Wiesen Oct 2026

Pics 101: Understanding Post-Incarceration Syndrome, Nicole L. Wiesen

Forensic Scholars Today

The psychological consequences of incarceration have been documented for decades, yet there remains no widely accepted trauma-informed framework specifically designed to conceptualize the cumulative effects of incarceration on individuals returning to their communities. Post-Incarceration Syndrome (PICS) is an emerging conceptual framework that seeks to integrate biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors associated with incarceration-related trauma and community reintegration. Building upon foundational research in prisonization, institutionalization, trauma, and correctional psychology—particularly the work of Craig Haney and other scholars examining the lasting effects of incarceration—the PICS framework provides clinicians, researchers, educators, and correctional professionals with a biopsychosocial lens through which to understand …

Recognizing Coronary Artery Disease In Women, Krista Ohmie Pa-C, Cck, Aacc Oct 2026

Recognizing Coronary Artery Disease In Women, Krista Ohmie Pa-C, Cck, Aacc

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

The purpose of this review is to identify sex-specific factors in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease in women as it continues to be the number one cause of their mortality. A search of the literature was conducted using PubMed as well as resources from the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association with multiple articles identified for use. The risk of cardiovascular disease in women is affected by traditional risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes, but is compounded by length of estrogen exposure, pregnancy, and higher rates of systemic inflammation. Systemic barriers such as …

Life After Ecmo: A Comprehensive Review Of Longterm Complications, Mia Olson Pa-C Oct 2026

Life After Ecmo: A Comprehensive Review Of Longterm Complications, Mia Olson Pa-C

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

Extracorporeal life support is the ability to temporarily supplement pulmonary and/or cardiac function in the setting of severe organ failure, with the most widely used version of this technology being extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). While ECMO acutely improves outcomes in many patients with acute cardiopulmonary failure, evidence shows that survivors are at risk for long-term complications. These may include physical limitations, neurocognitive impairment, and psychological distress, all of which cumulate to impact a patient’s quality of life. The purpose of this research paper is to examine the literature on long-term complications associated with ECMO therapy and their impact on patient …

Insomnia As A Risk Factor For Depression: Integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Insomnia, Derrick Bouldin

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

This review evaluates insomnia as an independent, modifiable risk factor for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) within primary care, while assessing the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) in improving outcomes, preventing onset, and reducing relapse risk of depression. A literature search conducted between January and April 2026 across PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and APA PsycINFO yielded 42 articles published between 2015 and 2026. Applying inclusion criteria focused on adult populations, comorbid insomnia and depression, and clinical outcomes of CBT-I, 26 articles were selected for synthesis. Findings demonstrate that insomnia is a predictive risk factor for MDD onset, persistence, …

Genitourinary Syndrome Of Menopause And Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: A Primary Care Approach, Michelle Johnson Oct 2026

Genitourinary Syndrome Of Menopause And Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: A Primary Care Approach, Michelle Johnson

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

This literature synthesis reviewed current evidence on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM)-related lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in postmenopausal persons, with implications for primary care. GSM is a chronic, progressive condition caused by estrogen deficiency affecting vaginal, urethral, and bladder tissues. An estimated 50% to 70% of postmenopausal persons experience symptoms, including urinary urgency, frequency, incontinence, and recurrent urinary tract infections. Despite its prevalence and effect on quality of life, GSM remains substantially underdiagnosed: fewer than half of symptomatic persons seek treatment, and clinicians often fail to screen proactively. Low-dose vaginal estrogen therapy remains …

Dengue: A Global And Emerging Health Challenge, Christopher Artigas Oct 2026

Dengue: A Global And Emerging Health Challenge, Christopher Artigas

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

Dengue virus, a rapidly expanding tropical arbovirus with four distinct serotypes, poses a growing global public health threat—particularly in regions where healthcare systems are ill-equipped to diagnose, treat, and manage its severe manifestations. Transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes, dengue typically manifests as an acute febrile illness characterized by severe myalgias ("bone-breaking fever"), arthralgias, gastrointestinal distress, and hemorrhagic tendencies. In severe cases, the infection can progress to life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or dengue shock syndrome (DSS). Because definitive antiviral therapeutics remain in development, supportive clinical care, with a critical focus on timely intravenous fluid resuscitation, is the cornerstone of management. …

Continuity Beyond Delivery: A Family Medicine Approach To Racial And Ethnic Equity In Postpartum Care, Dominique J. Tarrant Oct 2026

Continuity Beyond Delivery: A Family Medicine Approach To Racial And Ethnic Equity In Postpartum Care, Dominique J. Tarrant

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

This narrative review examines interventions to improve postpartum care continuity, reduce disparities, and advance maternal health equity, emphasizing structured follow-up, care coordination, and family medicine integration. The postpartum period, often called the “fourth trimester,” should connect recovery with lifelong health. However, many women, particularly those from racially and ethnically minoritized populations, encounter missed screenings, inadequate support, and structural barriers that increase their risk of adverse maternal outcomes. Electronic searches of PubMed and Google Scholar were conducted from October 27 through November 7, 2025, using combinations of “postpartum care,” “family medicine integration,” “racial and ethnic disparities,” “health equity,” and “fourth trimester.” …

Multimodal Analgesia For Postoperative Pain Management In Total Shoulder Arthroplasty, Caroline Heramb Oct 2026

Multimodal Analgesia For Postoperative Pain Management In Total Shoulder Arthroplasty, Caroline Heramb

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

Total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is an increasingly common orthopedic procedure, yet postoperative pain management continues to rely heavily on opioid analgesics. Although multimodal analgesia (MMA) has become the standard of care in total hip and knee arthroplasty, consensus regarding the optimal multimodal approach for TSA remains limited. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using PubMed, CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar. Following screening with inclusion and exclusion criteria, 42 articles were selected for review and synthesized. Current evidence supports MMA pathways incorporating regional anesthesia, non-opioid pharmacologic agents, perioperative corticosteroids, cryotherapy, and patient education to reduce postoperative opioid requirements without …

Towards Equitable Protection: The Legal And Societal Invisibility Of Unmarried Relationships And Dating Violence In India, Annet Shaju, Aditi Padiyar Oct 2026

Towards Equitable Protection: The Legal And Societal Invisibility Of Unmarried Relationships And Dating Violence In India, Annet Shaju, Aditi Padiyar

Journal of International Women's Studies

In India, unmarried romantic relationships, and especially cohabitation, are cultural taboos for which women unequivocally bear the brunt of societal stigma and moral scrutiny. Although India’s Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDV) explicitly includes women in unmarried relationships, deeply entrenched socio-cultural bias permeates institutional mechanisms, impeding support, legal assistance, and protection for unmarried women. The 2025 state mandate to register unmarried relationships involving cohabitation signals a shift towards increased moral policing and infringement of privacy and autonomy. Such repressive rules risk being counterproductive; there is a need for regulations that prioritize women’s empowerment and broader societal changes …

Birthing In A Foreign Land, Sadhiya Saleem Oct 2026

Birthing In A Foreign Land, Sadhiya Saleem

Journal of International Women's Studies

This narrative poem explores the embodied experience of childbirth in a foreign land. Set within the unfamiliar environment of a hospital far from the speaker’s linguistic roots, the poem traces the physical and emotional landscape of labor as one profoundly shaped by displacement and disconnection. Through sensory imagery and fragmented memory, it portrays how giving birth in an unfamiliar context amid the absence of familiar support systems and linguistic comfort creates a profound sense of bodily estrangement. The poem enters broader feminist conversations to reclaim the maternal body, marked by migration and displacement, as a definitive site of memory and …
