Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth and Piper crocatum Ruiz and Pav are members of the Piperaceae family, which contains many active phytochemical compounds, one of which functions as an antioxidant. Antioxidants in the human body play a crucial role in protecting cells and tissues from damage by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage cells through a process called oxidation. The purpose of this study was to compare the levels of antioxidant activity in the two plants using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The processing was conducted from simplicial to extraction, using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. …

Despite Malaysia's low leprosy prevalence, new cases continue to emerge in rural and Indigenous communities. National strategies often prioritise elimination and surveillance, while overlooking the needs and challenges of individuals affected by leprosy and those managing their care. This study employed a transdisciplinary research approach, guided by the Dialogue Model, to co-develop context-specific strategies to improve the lives of those affected through participatory engagement with both groups. Conducted across three high-burden states in Peninsular Malaysia, the research involved a desk review and stakeholder mapping, followed by 40 in-depth interviews with affected individuals and other stakeholders. These were complemented by a …

The Concept, Dimensions, And Measurement Of Innovative Competitive Behavior Of Chinese Scientific And Technological Personnel, Rui Li Dec 2025

The Concept, Dimensions, And Measurement Of Innovative Competitive Behavior Of Chinese Scientific And Technological Personnel, Rui Li

Double Helix Methodology

Introduction: While competitive behavior in innovation activities is increasingly prevalent in practice and actively promoted by policymakers, it remains an under explored area in academic research. To bridge this gap, we introduce the concept of “innovative competitive behavior,” providing a conceptual definition and clarifying its theoretical boundaries, rooted in social comparison theory from psychology. Methods: A mixed-methods approach was employed to systematically examine this construct. First, a qualitative study guided by grounded theory was conducted to explore the core dimensions of the construct. Subsequently, a quantitative phase involved the development and validation of a psychological scale through questionnaire surveys and …

Mechanical And Durability Properties Of Cement Panels Reinforced With Hybrid And Pva Fibers, Shukran H. Faraj, Mohammed J. Kadhim

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Engineering Sciences

This study examines the synergistic effects of hybrid fibers (HF) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers on the structural and thermal properties of silica-fume cement panels. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to examine mortar mixtures with varying fiber content to assess their enhancement of microstructure. We conducted several experiments on compressive, flexural, and splitting tensile strength, in addition to water absorption and thermal conductivity. The results indicate that 1% HF exhibits superior mechanical qualities, with a compressive strength of 46.89 MPa, a flexural strength of 8.56 MPa, and a reduced thermal conductivity of 0.83 W/m•K. PVA fibers at 2% enhance …

Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science

Introduction: Post-extraction bleeding, which is difficult to stop, is rare. However, arterial hemorrhage may lead to a state in which hemostasis is difficult to obtain. We herein report a case in which arterial embolization effectively stopped hemorrhagic bleeding due to mandibular third molar extraction.

Case Report: The patient was a 24-year-old man who suffered from abnormal bleeding during left mandibular third molar extraction (tooth no. 48). As hemostasis via compression with gauze would be difficult, the patient was referred to our department for emergency treatment to stop the bleeding. There was nothing special to note in terms of his vital …

Simplified Direct Composite Restoration On Class Iv With Bertholdo/Riccie/Barrotte (Brb) Matrix Technique - Case Report, Alfajri I. Suwir, Wandania Farahanny

Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science

ABSTRACT

Background: Direct composite restoration could produce restorations that look like natural teeth with a simple and quick process. Composite resin material might reconstruct teeth by accurately replicating the micro- and macrostructure, chromatic characteristics, and tooth symmetry of the original dentition. However, we still need extra instruments and the clinician's experience to get this result. This case study aims to describe a simple biomimetic technique for repairing anterior tooth defects with the Bertholdo/ Riccie/ Barrotte (BRB) matrix. Case Report: A 23-year-old man complained about a fracture of his anterior teeth. He had an accident 3 years ago. This tooth was …

Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science

Introduction: We report a case where oral symptoms, initially suspected as adverse effects of chemoradiotherapy, evolved into systemic mucositis and dermatitis, leading to a toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) diagnosis.
Case Report: An 80-year-old man presented for conservative treatment of tongue cancer. Based on his preference, superselective intra-arterial chemoradiotherapy was chosen instead of surgery. Thirty-six days after treatment began, the patient developed a fever of 38.4°C and worsening oral mucositis (grade 3 CTCAE Ver. 4.0). Subsequently, facial dermatitis appeared and was initially diagnosed as radiation dermatitis, leading to topical steroid therapy. However, skin symptoms with blisters and erosions spread across the …
