The Butterfly Effect In Economics: Exploring Chaos With A Simple Financial Model, Sandy Hs Herho Feb 2026

The Butterfly Effect In Economics: Exploring Chaos With A Simple Financial Model, Sandy Hs Herho

CODEE Journal

Wild swings in financial markets need not result from external shocks like earthquakes or wars—they can emerge from deterministic chaos. This article introduces kalimusada, an open-source Python library that lets students and instructors explore this phenomenon through a simple three- equation model of financial dynamics. The model couples interest rates, investment, and prices through nonlinear feedback, generating bounded but unpredictable oscillations characteristic of chaos. Tiny differences in starting conditions—smaller than any measurement could detect—grow exponentially until two initially identical economies follow completely different paths. The library provides ready-to-use tools for visualizing this “butterfly effect” in economics, computing divergence metrics, and …

Community Engagement And Equity-Oriented Researchare Prerequisites For Designing Inclusive Oral Healthservices For People Experiencing Homelessness, Martha Paisi, Andrea Rodriguez, Lyndsey Withers Feb 2026

Community Engagement And Equity-Oriented Researchare Prerequisites For Designing Inclusive Oral Healthservices For People Experiencing Homelessness, Martha Paisi, Andrea Rodriguez, Lyndsey Withers

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Oral health is a vital aspect of overall health and wellbeing, yet individuals experiencing homelessness often bear a disproportionate burden of poor oral health and its consequences. This paper explores how community engagement and equity-oriented research can be powerful and complementary tools to inform and enhance evidence-based service design for these patients. We present illustrative examples from both the United Kingdom and international contexts. Community engagement captures a genuine, patient-centred understanding of current realities, while research builds on this foundation to identify and address priority needs. This targeted approach increases the likelihood of impactful interventions that move from ‘what is' …

The Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) of inpatient rooms at Mitra Sehat Mandiri Hospital Sidoarjo during 2019-2023 has not reached the ideal standard. The BOR values were 22%, 28%, 37%, 25%, and 20%, with an average of 26.4%, remaining below the ideal range of 60-85%. One of the most influential factors contributing to the low BOR is suboptimal service quality. This study aims to analyze the relationship between Patient-Perceived Hospital Service Quality, customer satisfaction , and behavioral intention among inpatients at Mitra Sehat Mandiri Hospital Sidoarjo. This study employed a quantitative method with an analytical approach and a cross-sectional design. The …

Xylazine is a veterinary sedative increasingly found in the U.S. illicit drug supply and is a growing public health concern due to its association with overdose events. To investigate its spatial distribution and relationship with fentanyl use, we analyzed 124 wastewater samples from four treatment plants serving the City of El Paso, Texas, over 13 months (June 2023 to July 2024) using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Xylazine detections varied across sewersheds, with detection rates of 29.0%, 12.9%, 9.7%, and 0% and peak loads of 110±40 μg/day/1000 people. Norfentanyl (a primary fentanyl metabolite) was detected in all samples (100%), reaching …

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Background: Anthracyclines, notably doxorubicin, are potent cytotoxic agents that substantially improved outcomes across numerous malignancies. However, their use is restricted by their cardiotoxicity, a dose-dependent adverse effect that manifests acutely, during treatment, or years post-therapy. It encompasses a spectrum of phenotypes including asymptomatic ventricular dysfunction, heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiomyopathy, contributing to considerable morbidity and mortality as cancer survival rates improve. Objective: This narrative review summarises current insights into anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity pathophysiology and evaluates pharmacologic strategies for its prevention and management. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted through August 2025, prioritizing randomised controlled trials, meta-analyses, observational studies, and guideline …

Unilateral Pulmonary Edema Following Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery Via Right Thoracotomy: A Word Of Caution, Arifi Aa, Ahmed Munir Metwaly, Fayez F. Al Mutairi, Bandar Zamzami, Islam Shalaby

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

We report the first case of unilateral pulmonary edema (UPE) in our series of 150 patients undergoing minimally invasive mitral and tricuspid valve surgery via right thoracotomy. A 30-year-old female with rheumatic heart disease developed UPE requiring temporary extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support postoperatively. The patient recovered uneventfully and was discharged on postoperative day 15. This case underscores the importance of recognizing and mitigating UPE in minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS).

Fi-Fractured Policy: Problematic Preemption Provisions Under The Epa’S Fifra, Eric Mathemeier Feb 2026

Fi-Fractured Policy: Problematic Preemption Provisions Under The Epa’S Fifra, Eric Mathemeier

Helms School of Government Undergraduate Law Review

The American people have long believed that nutrition is the main factor they should consider when purchasing produce. However, Americans are starting to worry that pesticides are infiltrating their food, namely their fruits and vegetables, and they would not be incorrect. Across many studies, surveys consistently find that 60% of Americans believe pesticides are bad for their health and have admitted to refraining from buying produce due to pesticide labeling. Only one in four Americans trusts the federal government with the responsibility of trustworthy and safe pesticide use.

Because of this, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has worked …

Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER)

With intentional teacher facilitation, whole-class conversations can help students refine their engineering reasoning, consider new ideas, and make novel connections between different ways of defining or solving a problem. These conversations can also help students expand their engineering thinking to include perspectives of care and socioethical deliberations. A team of classroom teachers and university researchers has been enacting and studying whole-class engineering design conversations—Design Talks—in first through sixth grade classrooms. We organize Design Talks in five genres: problem-scoping talks, idea generation talks, design-in- progress talks, design synthesis talks, and impact talks. After five years of planning, implementing, and analyzing recorded …
