Conceptual Analysis Of Ārthavavaha Srotas (Female Reproductive System): A Review Of The Theories And Literature, Pushpa Kulanatha, H. L. M. G. Sajeewani
Journal of Innovation in Science, Engineering and Technology
The reproductive health of females during their fertile years is foundational for individual well-being and societal prosperity. The purpose of this study was to bridge the analytical and epistemological gaps currently existing in the literature regarding Ārthavavaha Srotas (ĀvS), the Ayurvedic concept of the female reproductive system. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using forward and backward searches to analyse authentic Ayurvedic texts (Caraka and Sushruta Samhitas) alongside contemporary research articles published between 2014 and 2024. The analysis identified ten specific aspects of the ĀvS where prior interpretations were superficial or unclear. The results of this study epistemologically validate ancient …

Farmers in the North Central United States are at risk of having soybean yield robbed due to infection by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the causal agent of Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR). While certain management strategies, such as wide row spacings, lower plant populations, and resistant varieties, can reduce SSR development, there is often a negative yield impact associated with these strategies. Conversely, chemical management strategies do not have an associated yield drag, and therefore, they have been the primary tool for suppressing SSR development. Independent chemical programs were evaluated across eight states from 2017 to 2024, resulting in 32 site-years (n = …
Device Manager: Bundle Implementation For Reducing Device-Related Pressure Injuries, Sierra Holloway
Device Manager: Bundle Implementation For Reducing Device-Related Pressure Injuries, Sierra Holloway
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Background: Pressure injuries (PIs) are a continuing global problem in healthcare and worse for critically ill patients, costing up to $30 billion annually in the United States and are not reimbursable. Medical devices provide life support and healing in hospitalized patients but can also cause harm. Approximately 30-60% of PIs come from medical devices, causing pain, discomfort, and patient dissatisfaction while worsening patient outcomes.
Problem: The practicum site saw increased MDRPIs over two years, over the hospital average, due to a lack of standardization and knowledge for preventing MDRPIs. This led to extended lengths of stay, increased healthcare costs, and …

Screen And Intervene: Assessing Knowledge, Preparedness, And Confidence In Managing Postpartum Depression, Caroline Everly Quinn
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mental health condition where a parent experiences intense and ongoing depressive symptoms such as sadness, anxiety, lack of energy, suicidal thoughts and actions, and more. One in seven people who give birth will experience PPD. Furthermore, suicide is a leading cause of death in the perinatal period, accounting for 20% of postpartum deaths. Though PPD is common, there are many barriers to screening, managing, and treating this condition.
This evidence-based quality improvement (QI) project aimed to assess nursing students’ and nurses’ levels of knowledge and readiness to screen, intervene, and manage patients with PPD in …

Veterans’ Living To Create Healthy Environments And The Meaning Of Their Well-Being: A Phenomenological Inquiry, Cheryl L. Birmingham
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
The Veterans reside in a unique environment influenced by past military experiences that may have positive and negative effects on their well-being as Veterans. With nearly half of the 18.4 million Veterans in the United States living beyond 61 years the physical and mental health conditions may desolate the Veterans’ well-being. Promoting Veterans’ well-being has been studied extensively but scant research has been done on the environmental influences and how it helps to define It is critical to understand how Veterans define well-being to inform future program development addressing mental health needs. The purpose of this study is to discover …
Implementation Of A Mindfulness Intervention Among Professional Firefighters And The Effect On Perceived Stress Levels, Rachel L. Mowry
Implementation Of A Mindfulness Intervention Among Professional Firefighters And The Effect On Perceived Stress Levels, Rachel L. Mowry
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Problem Statement: Firefighters experience high levels of stress related to their occupation that negatively impacts their physical and mental health and can lead to loss of occupation, decreased work productivity, and suicide. Occupational stress in firefighters impacts firefighters as individuals, as well as their places of work and communities; therefore, this phenomenon should be investigated further. Mindfulness is a strategy which is shown to be effective in the reduction of occupational-related stress. Mindfulness-based strategies can be delivered through a variety of methods including mindfulness-based stress reduction, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, virtual mindfulness interventions, and other structured programs. Increased mindfulness has been …

On Explaining The Sentiments In Prediction Of Stock Movement: An Xai-Based Analysis, D. J. Ranade, Sarthak Bhaya, Siddhanth Bhimakari, Moe Aye Chan, Keith Quille, Rajesh Jaiswal
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
Empirical evidence shows that short-horizon equity returns are not fully random; there is a degree of predictability, especially when traditional financial data is combined with public sentiment measures. Sentiment-based features have been used to improve prediction tasks, but there is limited explanation of their contribution. In addition, the impact of news on investor sentiment, and how that impact decays over time, has rarely been investigated. To bridge this gap, we integrate sentiment scores extracted from financial news headlines using HKUST FinBERT with daily market-based indicators to predict the next-day price direction. We evaluated two aggregation strategies: the most confident news …
Enhancing Training For Law Enforcement In Mental Health Responses In The Community, Tiffany Raines
Enhancing Training For Law Enforcement In Mental Health Responses In The Community, Tiffany Raines
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A significant issue in human services practice in Macon, Georgia, is law enforcement officers’ responding to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis in public. Many police officers are not equipped to handle situations involving individuals experiencing mental health events, leading to possible adverse outcomes such as injury, incarceration, or even fatalities. There are increasing rates of mental illness disorders, and therefore, the need for compassionate, informed approaches for human service professionals to respond to those in crisis. More training to improve responses can lead to better outcomes for individuals in crisis, foster community trust in law enforcement, and enhance overall …
Modeling Spasticity: A Systematic Review, Gaby Gonzalez Chan, Jonathan Marsden, Alexander Besinis, Pablo Borja, Hilary Gunn
Modeling Spasticity: A Systematic Review, Gaby Gonzalez Chan, Jonathan Marsden, Alexander Besinis, Pablo Borja, Hilary Gunn
School of Health Professions
Spasticity, a type of hypertonia characterized by a velocity-dependent increase in muscle tone, is associated with damage to the brain and/or spinal cord in different neurological conditions. However, secondary non-neurological factors, such as soft tissue changes, can complicate the assessment and differentiation of the underlying causes. Accurate assessment is crucial for effective treatment planning, with clinicians relying on passive movement to grade the ‘feel’ of the spastic limb. This review aims to identify and evaluate the feasibility of spasticity models or simulations for clinical teaching. Models based on human spastic limbs were examined, with no restrictions on specific conditions or …

Educators' Evaluation Of Explanation Types In Xai For Higher Education Dropout, Henry Maathuis, Jan Glazenborg, Meike Grol, Keith Quille
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
First-year student dropout rates represent a global challenge, particularly in Computer Science programs. In response, the Predict Student Success (PreSS) tool was developed over two decades using Naïve Bayes, a black box machine learning model, to identify students at risk of early withdrawal or academic failure. Given growing concerns about the use of black box models in high-stakes domains such as education, this study builds on former research by comparing the Naïve Bayes model to three glass box AI models: Decision Tree, Explainable Boosting Machine, and Automatic Piecewise Linear Regression. These models were used to generate four types of explainable …

Emotional Intelligence And Problem-Solving Correlations And Impact On Employability: A Case Study From The Uae, Ganka Ivanova, Rakan Alhrhasheh
All Works
In this study, we aim to address questions about how UAE Leadership Development Plans and Employability connect with current students in UAE classrooms by evaluating the correlation between the employability of UAE university students and their emotional intelligence (EI) and problem-solving skills. Moreover, we cover what must be considered in the curricula of UAE Universities to prepare future leaders to lead the workforce. To that end, we employed an employability test developed by AQR International UK and collected data from 310 undergraduate students aged 17 to 55. Both EI and problem-solving skills were strongly positively correlated with employability (p < .001). Even though male participants scored higher than female participants for EI and problem-solving skills, analysis of variance revealed nonsignificant gender differences (p > .05 …

Visual Healing In Visual Communication Design: Exploring Calm Aesthetics For The Psychological Well-Being Of Urban Society, Siti Indah Lestari, Ivo Ramadhani
Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
This study investigates the concept of visual healing from a Visual Communication Design (VCD) perspective, focusing on its potential contribution to emotional comfort and psychological well-being among urban office workers. Contemporary workplace environments are increasingly characterized by prolonged screen exposure, dense visual information, and sustained cognitive demands, conditions that intensify visual fatigue and psychological strain. In this context, the study positions visual design not merely as an aesthetic practice, but as a psychologically responsive medium capable of shaping users' emotional experiences in everyday work settings. Employing a qualitative Research through Design (RtD) methodology, the study treats the design process as …

Discourses On Homosexuality And The Paradox Of The Closet In The New Life (2023) By Tom Crewe, Paramita Ayuningtyas, Shuri Mariasih Gietty Tambunan, Asri Saraswati
Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
This article offers a critical examination of Tom Crewe's biographical novel The New Life (2023), focusing on its representation of homosexual subjectivity in Victorian England—a historical context defined by restrictive moral norms and punitive legal regimes that criminalised same-sex relationships. Drawing on Michel Foucault's theory of discursive power, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick's concept of the closet, and Michael Boucai's topology of the closet, the study demonstrates that the novel portrays the closet not merely as a private site of concealment but as a complex social mechanism shaped by legal regulation, gender norms, and class-based power relations. Building on this theoretical framework, …
An Autoethnographic And Relational Exploration Of Identity Negotiation Within Romantic Relationships Between Nonbinary Partners And Cisgender Women, Maddison L. Russell
An Autoethnographic And Relational Exploration Of Identity Negotiation Within Romantic Relationships Between Nonbinary Partners And Cisgender Women, Maddison L. Russell
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation explores how trans and cisgender partners negotiate gender identity, care, and relational well-being through an autoethnographic examination of everyday communication. The study draws from eighteen personal narratives across family, academic, and romantic contexts to trace how gender-based microaggressions and cisnormative expectations become embedded in ordinary talk, gestures, and silences, shaping identity development and relational stability. At its core, this work argues that relationality emerges as a pervasive and constitutive condition that shapes how affirmation, misrecognition, and belonging are experienced within trans/cis relationships and across time. Through examining moments of misunderstanding, minimization, and avoidance, the study reveals how microaggressions …

Metastatic Castrate-Resistant Prostate Cancer To The Penis Resulting In Malignant Priapism And Urethral Obstruction, Courtney Stewart, Joon Yau Leong, William Kevin Kelly, Mihir Shah
Department of Urology Faculty Papers
A 76-year-old male with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer was found to have metastatic disease to the urethra and penis on PSMA PET scan. This resulted in constant pain due to obstruction of blood flow through the corpora cavernosum resulting in priapism and urethral obstruction. The patient underwent a radical penectomy, partial urethrectomy and perineal urethrostomy creation. Final pathology confirmed metastatic prostatic adenocarcinoma. Although rare, prostate cancer can metastasize to the corpora spongiosum or cavernosa. Treatment options are limited, and surgical excision with urinary diversion is likely to provide the most durable outcomes for one's quality of life.

Somatic KRAS (KRASG12V) mutation in endothelial cells (EC) induces brain arteriovenous malformation (bAVM) that could lead to vascular instability and ultimately bleeding. However, the causes of bAVM instability remain unclear. Here we demonstrate that KRASG12V expressing cultured ECs (KRAS-G12V-EC) have increased expression of pro-inflammatory mediators and reduced expression of blood-brain-barrier (BBB) junction constituents. The conditioned medium from KRAS-G12V-EC can activate BV2-microglia (BV2-MG) and conditioned media from this primed BV2-MG can compromise the expression of EC-junction constituents when added to wild-type ECs. In an in vitro BBB model, KRAS-G12V-EC form a dysfunctional EC barrier that is further disrupted, leading to lower …

Radiation therapy (RT) is the standard of care for glioblastoma but is not curative. Triggering the cGAS/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway with potent agonists, such as 8803, exerts activity across high-grade glioma preclinical models. To determine if the combination of 8803 with RT warrants consideration in the up-front treatment setting and to clarify the underlying mechanisms of therapeutic activity, C57BL/6J mice harboring intracerebral CT-2A or QPP8v gliomas were treated with RT, intratumoral 8803, or both. The treatment with the combination resulted in 80% long-term survival in the CT-2A model but not in the radiation-resistant QPP8v model. This therapeutic effect …

Communicative Legitimacy: The Supreme Court's Hidden Cultural Binaries In The U.S. Civil Sphere, Steven Arrigg Koh
Faculty Scholarship
How does the U.S. Supreme Court establish its legitimacy? Over the last two hundred years in U.S. society, the Court has interpreted the U.S. Constitution on watershed issues such as slavery, segregation, and marriage equality. And yet the Constitution is just 7,591 words. A puzzle thus emerges: how does the Court intelligibly interpret this short text for U.S. society? This article develops a new theoretical and empirical cultural sociological account of such Supreme Court decision-making, which it calls “communicative legitimacy.” According to this theory, which draws on Jeffrey Alexander’s civil sphere theory, the Court consistently and inevitably draws on a …

Social Prescribing For Refugee Populations: A Protocol For A Rapid Realist Review Of International Evidence, Victoria Touzel, Anna-Lena Esser, Kerryn Husk, Doreen Reifegerste
Peninsula Medical School
BackgroundSocial prescribing addresses complex individual health and social needs through person-centered referral from healthcare into community settings, supporting wellbeing and integrated care. While evidence for majority populations continues to expand, no review has yet synthesized evidence specifically for refugee populations, despite this group facing profound social and systemic barriers. As such, this protocol defines the research objectives for a rapid realist review that will identify what approaches to social interventions work for refugee populations, for whom they are effective, and under which circumstances.MethodsA rapid realist review will be conducted to identify relevant evidence from both social prescribing interventions and social …

School of Nursing and Midwifery
This realist evaluation explored how access to preconception care works for people with pre-existing health conditions, for whom, and in what contexts. Thirty one participants (women of reproductive age, partners, and healthcare professionals) were interviewed using qualitative realist methods. Iterative analysis refined 35 initial programme theories into 13 middle range theories. The theory reported here identifies healthcare professionals’ knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, understanding of pregnancy planning, and enquiry regarding pregnancy intention as key mechanisms. In the context of diagnosis or review, these resources support holistic and individualized preconception care, enabling improved preconception health and reduced adverse maternal and …

More Hours, More Work: Head Start Expansions Boost Maternal Employment, Chloe R. Gibbs, Esra Kose, Maria Rosales Rueda
Upjohn Institute Working Papers
Women’s employment remains highly sensitive to childcare constraints, making childcare availability a critical lever for supporting mothers’ labor force attachment. We study the effects of expanded full-day programming in Head Start, using the 2016 federal funding initiative that targeted grantees with low full-day enrollment. Linking administrative program data, geo-coded center locations, and household data on employment, we estimate a difference-in-differences design by comparing mothers of young children in treated and untreated areas. The policy increased full-day enrollment by 19 percent and raised single mothers’ employment (1.9%), hours (2.5%), and earnings (6.5%). The rapid growth of e-commerce has led to product overload, which has resulted in personalized product discovery becoming a crucial problem for consumers. Classic recommender systems (RS), which rely heavily on content-based filtering or collaborative filtering, tend to face well-known problems such as cold start, data sparsity, and ignorance of semantics. Such constraints frequently result in irrelevant or redundant suggestions, thereby lowering the user satisfaction and conversions. This study presents a hybrid ontology-based e-commerce recommender system that combines symbolic reasoning with deep semantic matching. The system is based on a Neo4j graph database to capture structured product relationships and is …

Background: A biofilm is a collection of the microbial cells attached to the surface that are encased in a matrix of extracellular polymers. Biofilm formation creates a physical and chemical barrier that prevents antibiotics from reaching bacterial cells, resulting in treatment failure and reinfection. The present study aimed to investigate the biofilm formation in bacteria isolated from the oral cavity of patients.
Methods: In this study, 150 bacterial isolates were obtained from tooth and gum surface swabs of male and female patients of different ages who visited specialized centers and dental clinics in Babylon City after they were clinically diagnosed …

The Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival (JRMF) Community Math Circle is free, volunteer-run, and online. We collaborate with JRMF and use their activities in our events. Started during the pandemic, the Community Math Circle continues to thrive. We have about 40 participants attending every month, typically kids aged 6 to 13, teachers, facilitators, and other adults. This article describes how our event is organized, planned, and executed, and how we train facilitators. We will also offer reflections on our successes and challenges.

Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
Perception shapes how individuals experience the world and guides their actions toward personal goals. In counseling, clients’ accurate understanding of assessment results is essential for informed decision-making and effective treatment engagement. Mental health clinicians have an ethical responsibility to communicate findings in ways that safeguard client welfare and empower both clients and stakeholders to collaborate in care. This conceptual manuscript introduces the BRIEF (Brief, Relevant, Interpretive, Empathetic, and Factual) Feedback Integration Framework, a structured model for delivering assessment feedback ethically and accessibly. Integrating cognitive, developmental, and cultural considerations. BRIEF provides counselors, supervisors, and educators with a practical strategy for improving …
