Staff Education To Reduce Compassion Fatigue In Acute Care Staff Nurses, Kamala C. Mcgee Feb 2026

Staff Education To Reduce Compassion Fatigue In Acute Care Staff Nurses, Kamala C. Mcgee

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Compassion fatigue (CF), burnout, and moral distress are common in high-acuity nursing environments, yet nurses are rarely taught how to recognize or manage these challenges. The guiding question for this staff education project was about whether education focused on CF and mindfulness-based coping strategies would improve nurses’ knowledge and attitudes in an acute care VA medical center. Posteducation results (n = 20) showed meaningful, statistically significant improvements. Familiarity with CF increased from baseline (M = 2.35; SD = 1.04) to post implementation (M = 3.75; SD = .91), t(19) = −5.085, p < .001. Confidence in recognizing CF in oneself improved from baseline (M = 2.6; SD = .875) to post implementation (M = 3.60; SD = .821), p = .004. Confidence in recognizing CF in colleagues increased from baseline (M = 2.40; SD = .821) to postimplementation (M = 3.15; SD = .671), p = .012. Agreement that seeking help is a sign of weakness decreased from baseline (M = 2.00; SD = .503) to postimplementation (M = 1.40; SD = .951), p = .024. Although perceptions of organizational support did not change, nurses reported greater use of mindfulness, peer support, and boundary setting, supporting nurse wellbeing and psychological safety. Several recommendations emerge from this project. CF education should be integrated into routine staff development, annual competencies, and onboarding for new nurses. By reducing stigma around seeking help and promoting peer awareness, this work supports fostering a workplace culture where all nurses feel safe, supported, and valued, a positive social change.

Winner's Curse Free Robust Mendelian Randomization With Summary Data, Zhongming Xie, Wanheng Zhang, Jingshen Wang, Chong Wu

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

In the past decade, the increased availability of genome-wide association studies summary data has popularized Mendelian Randomization (MR) for conducting causal inference. MR analyses, incorporating genetic variants as instrumental variables, are known for their robustness against reverse causation bias and unmeasured confounders. Nevertheless, classical MR analyses using summary data may still produce biased causal effect estimates due to the winner’s curse and pleiotropy issues. To address these two issues and establish valid causal conclusions, we propose a unified robust Mendelian Randomization framework with summary data, which systematically removes the winner’s curse and screens out invalid genetic instruments with pleiotropic effects. …

Inventory Control Model On Matrix Geometric Method For Intermittently Obtainable Server With Balking And Feedback In Markovian Queueing Model, Indumathi P, Kathikeyan K

Baghdad Science Journal

The paper deals with the problem of queueing-inventory system that has uncertain service conditions, and it discusses the contribution of server availability and customer behaviours like balking and feedback that are also added in to the system performance. In real life service and production situations, servers are not always available because of maintenance processes, capacity constraints, or other unforeseen disruptions. In order to simulate such characteristics, the system is modelled in a Markovian context where the interdependency between inventory levels, customer inflows, and server capacity is simulated. The time of customer arrivals is random and the time to serve is …

The Path Forward For T Cell Engagers In Patients With Prostate Cancer, Sumit K. Subudhi, Bilal A. Siddiqui, Kevin K. Zarrabi, William K. Kelly, Charles G. Drake Feb 2026

The Path Forward For T Cell Engagers In Patients With Prostate Cancer, Sumit K. Subudhi, Bilal A. Siddiqui, Kevin K. Zarrabi, William K. Kelly, Charles G. Drake

Department of Medical Oncology Faculty Papers

T cell engagers (TCEs) recruit T cells to the tumor microenvironment (TME) to induce antitumor immune responses. TCEs have demonstrated promising clinical responses in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer and have advanced into phase 3 clinical trials. Here we provide an overview of the mechanisms of action of TCEs, including both CD3-targeted and CD28-targeted agents, and review the clinical development of these agents for prostate cancer. We propose a path forward for TCEs in prostate cancer, in which innovative clinical trials will facilitate a biological understanding of mechanisms of efficacy and toxicity to inform: (1) development of predictive biomarkers …

A Quantitative Assessment Of Effective Sustainable Waste Management Using An Ahp-Topsis Methodology In A Neutrosophic Environment (In India), Sneha Baskaran, Ezhilmaran Devarasan

Baghdad Science Journal

Waste management is a key to sustainable development and environmental safety, particularly in the environment of the fast evolving smart cities. This study proposes a new decision-making model that will assist in the process of choosing effective sustainable methods in waste management for smart cities. It compares the four methods of waste management in relation to seven factors. Two Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) are used i) Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and ii) Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) in a Neutrosophic Soft Set (NSS) environment. NSS have a more adaptive structure on dealing with the uncertainty …

Eeg Lossless Signal Compression Based On Magnitude Classification And Run Length Encoding, Hala A. Jasim, Loay E. George, Eman H. Khudhair, Bushra A. Sultan

Baghdad Science Journal

Electroencephalography (EEG) data comes with a large size due to the data's high sampling rate. Therefore, compressing EEG data is very important for storing the EEG files efficiently with less space and bandwidth capacity requirement. This research develops an efficient system for EEG data compression. The recorded EEG data are preprocessed and scaled using certain Resolution Factor and truncated to integer numbers, then the scaled EEG samples are classified into small and large vectors using a proposed adaptive thresholding which is based on using three computed factors: Standard deviation, Average of samples (Mean), and the multiplier factor (α). …

Effect Of Cooking Methods On Lead (Pb) In Pasig River-Sourced Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus), Rhian Joy M. Romero, Mary Rosendahl D. Monteverde, Francesca Simone A. Remorozo, Lizel P. Bonifacio, John Albert D. Gurtiza

DLSU Senior High School Research Congress Conference Proceedings

Once declared biologically dead, the Pasig River now shows signs of aquatic life but remains heavily polluted with heavy metals like lead (Pb), which accumulate in fish and pose health risks. Despite this, many communities still rely on the river for food, particularly tilapia. This study addresses public health concerns by evaluating whether common cooking methods—frying, grilling, and steaming can reduce Pb levels in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from the Pasig River to safe levels for consumption. A total of 107 tilapia samples were collected from Barangay Hulo, Mandaluyong City. The fish were cleaned, grouped, and cooked for 25 minutes using …

Relationship Between Vegetation Greenness (Ndvi) And Land Surface Temperature Across Land Cover Types In Ciwidey Sub-Watershed (1990–2020), Syal Syabila, Kuswantoro Marko, Revi Hernina

Jurnal Geografi Lingkungan Tropik (Journal of Geography of Tropical Environments)

Land cover change significantly influences vegetation greenness and land surface temperature (LST), particularly in upstream watershed regions experiencing rapid development. This study aims to analyze changes in vegetation greenness (NDVI), land surface temperature, and their relationship across different land cover types in the Ciwidey Sub-Watershed, Bandung Regency, during 1990–2020. Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI images (Path/Row 122/65) acquired in July 1990, 2005, and 2020 were processed using radiometric correction, supervised classification (Maximum Likelihood), NDVI extraction, and mono-window LST algorithm. Land cover classification accuracy was assessed using confusion matrix analysis. Linear regression was applied to evaluate the relationship between …
