The Influence And Representation Of The Hephthalites In The Vahaneanc Uprising In The Narrativ̇ E Of Ğazar PʿArpetsʿ, Oder Alizade
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This study examines the historical impact and representation of the Hephthalites in the context of the Vahaneanc uprising (482-484), a Christian rebellion against Sasanian rule in South Caucasia, as described in the work of Ğazar Pʿarpetsʿi, a 5th-century Armenian historian. Pʿarpetsʿi’s records of the events have been evaluated in comparison with other primary historical sources and attempted to be understood within the historical context of the period. This study is based on Grabarca’s critical edition, which relies on the 1891 Venice edition and the 1904 Tiflis edition of the work. Pʿarpetsʿi’s relevant record has been examined by comparing it with …
Migration, Culture And Belonging: The Military Service Problem Of Second-Generation Turkish Workers Living In Germany, Özlem Seyhan
Migration, Culture And Belonging: The Military Service Problem Of Second-Generation Turkish Workers Living In Germany, Özlem Seyhan
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
At the end of the 1950s, when Germany entered a period of economic development, a need arose for labor to work in industry and mining. Having lost a large portion of its young population in the World Wars, Germany began recruiting workers from abroad through agreements with various countries. In this context, an agreement was made with Türkiye in 1961, and Turkish workers were sent to Germany on various dates. Turkish workers who started working in a country that was completely different culturally, geographically and religiously and then took their families with them had to struggle with various social and …

Mentorship As Identity Work: The Meaning Black Queer Men Ascribe To Mentorship In Identity Development And Professional Identity Formation, Kai Christian
JWU Dissertations & Theses
This descriptive-phenomenological study examined the role of mentorship in shaping identity. There is limited literature that examines mentorship as an identity-shaping process among Black queer men (BQM). Intersectional and Black queer theory provided the theoretical framework for thematic analysis.
Within the workplace, BQM must negotiate the effects of double marginalization resulting from racism and anti-queer biases. The effects of racism and anti-queer biases can lead to adverse psychological and physical health outcomes, negatively impacting the careers of Black and queer individuals. BQM benefit from support that addresses and acknowledges how their identity shapes their experiences. Mentorship can provide …

Ventilator Weaning Through Spontaneous Breathing Trials In Children With Tetralogy Of Fallot In The Picu: A Case Report, Megah Fitrian, Kadek Ayu Erika, Muhammad Yunus
Jurnal Keperawatan Indonesia
Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect that causes chronic low oxygen levels, increased right ventricular workload, and a higher risk of complications. Weaning mechanical ventilation in patients with TOF is particularly challenging due to right ventricular dysfunction, muscle weakness, and the risk of heart failure. This study evaluates the use of a spontaneous breathing trial (SBT) strategy with pressure support ventilation (PSV) mode for mechanical ventilation weaning in pediatric patients with TOF. An observational study was conducted on a six-year-old pediatric patient with TOF and a cerebral abscess who underwent mechanical ventilation weaning using the SBT technique …

Cancer remains a leading cause of death worldwide. The complexity of cancer care demands strong interprofessional collaboration (IPC), particularly within cancer patient navigator (CPN) programmes. However, research examining IPC in the context of CPN implementation is still limited. This scoping review aims to explore the various roles of healthcare workers in the IPC process within cancer navigator programme interventions. The review was conducted using four databases: PubMed, Clinical Key, EBSCOhost, and ScienceDirect. The Arksey and O'Malley framework was used to address the research question: “What is the role of health workers in interprofessional collaboration within cancer patient navigation?” Study selection …
Judicial Underreach: Tiktok Inc. V. Garland's Implications For National Security And Free Speech, Olivia Sharp
Judicial Underreach: Tiktok Inc. V. Garland's Implications For National Security And Free Speech, Olivia Sharp
Richmond Journal of Law & Technology
This paper argues that the Supreme Court’s decision in TikTok Inc.v. Garland overlooked a critical opportunity to develop a robust First Amendment framework for evaluating national security threats in the context of modern digital speech. Although the Court upheld the TikTok bill under intermediate scrutiny and framed the legislation as a content-neutral regulation of foreign corporate ownership, it failed to meaningfully engage with the more profound and more complex national security concerns raised by continued foreign control over a central expressive platform. In doing so, the Court not only narrowed its conception of the government’s interest but also left the …

The United States has increasingly recognized its reputation as a prison state, with widespread acknowledgment of its high incarceration rates. As of 2021, the United States imprisoned one out of every five prisoners in the world. Additionally, of its own population, the United States imprisoned one out of every one hundred people. In response to this notoriety, worsening prison overcrowding, and the heightened risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and the federal government increased their utilization of alternative measures to traditional incarceration. As both an addition and an alternative to traditional incarceration, criminal …

Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data
Accurate crowd counting remains a major challenge in computer vision due to perspective distortion, background clutter, occlusion, and poor illumination, which degrade feature representation and limit model generalization. This study introduces a robust and well-structured approach that integrates hybrid attention mechanisms with curriculum learning to enhance accuracy and stability in complex crowd scenarios. Gamma correction and CLAHE preprocessing enhance image visibility, facilitating the reliable detection of small and distant individuals under challenging lighting conditions. A mixed attention mechanism further enhances feature discrimination by emphasizing crowd-relevant regions while suppressing background noise. In addition, curriculum learning, guided by scoring and pacing functions, …

When The Tail Wags The Dog: The Game Of Justice And The Elusive Quest For Due Process In The Middle East, Mohamed Arafa
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
Due process guarantees lie at the heart of any legitimate legal system, serving as a critical safeguard against arbitrary state power and as a foundation for the rule of law. Yet their meaning and implementation vary significantly across legal traditions and political contexts.
This article examines the scope and limitations of due process guarantees in the Middle East, focusing on Egypt and Saudi Arabia as illustrative case studies. While both jurisdictions formally recognize procedural protections within their constitutional and legal frameworks, the practical application of these guarantees often diverges from international standards.
The article analyzes core due process principles—such as …

Who Wins The Fight To Protect The Right Of Publicity Through § 512(C) Of The Dmca?, Dillon Ruzich
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
Misrepresenting a copyright infringement claim when sending a takedown request under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c) is currently the most effective way to protect against the unauthorized use of names, images, and likenesses, or the right of publicity, on the Internet. With the absence of meaningful federal protection, who wins the fight to protect the right of publicity online? This Note examines tolerating the misapplication of § 512(c) for the right of publicity, considers a congressional amendment to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), and then evaluates incorporation of the right of publicity into the proposed NO FAKES Act before recommending …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Mechanisms underlying breast cancer brain metastasis (BCBM) are still not well understood. Here, we identified that BCBM patient serum contained extracellular vesicles (EVs) with high levels of microRNAs (miRNAs)-107 and -425. Levels of miR-107 and miR-425 were elevated in brain metastases, and the elevation was associated with poor patient prognoses. Ectopic expression of miR-107 and miR-425 promoted mammospheres; however, the inhibition of miR-425, but not miR-107, suppressed breast cancer mammosphere formation. We further observed that EVs from miR-425-overexpressing breast cancer cells strongly activated astrocytes whereas their inhibitors abrogated the effect. Conditioned media from miR-425-activated astrocytes promoted mammospheres. To elucidate how …

Implementation Of Direct Corpus Applications To L2 Collaborative Writing Pedagogy: The Impact On Learner Interaction, Written Output And Development, Ahmet Egemen Curuk
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
This dissertation examines the implementation of direct corpus applications within L2 collaborative writing pedagogy and investigates their impact on learner interaction, as well as measurable gains in syntactic complexity, lexical complexity, and accuracy during collaborative writing and in subsequent individual writing. Although prior research has established the pedagogical value of corpus-based instruction and collaborative writing separately, little is known about how these approaches function when integrated, particularly with an emphasis on the learner experience and the interactional mechanisms that mediate learning. To address this gap, this dissertation adopts a mixed-methods design to explore how corpus-guided collaborative writing shapes dyadic interaction, …

Voltage Breakdown Strength And Energy Density Of Ceramic Srtio₃ At Cryogenic Temperatures From 295 K To 77 K, Hung Trinh, Alan Devoe, Fatih Dogan
Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The low-temperature dependence of the DC dielectric breakdown strength (EBD) and the energy storage density (W) of capacitors, fabricated from high purity polycrystalline strontium titanate, were investigated in the temperature range from 295 K to 77 K. Test samples were constructed with a process similar to that used for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The permittivity, loss tangent, leakage current, and breakdown strength were measured as a function of temperature and voltage. Weibull statistical analysis was used to quantify breakdown distributions. Despite electric-field suppression of permittivity, breakdown strength increased significantly with decreasing temperatures, leading to enhanced energy density. The breakdown field …

Projections Of The Characteristics Of Extreme Precipitation In East Africa Using Bias-Corrected Cmip6 Models, Exavery K. Makula
Tanzania Journal of Science
In the context of ongoing global climate change, the intensification of the hydrological cycle is expected to modify the frequency, magnitude, and spatial distribution of extreme precipitation events. Understanding how precipitation extremes will evolve under climate change is critical for East Africa (EA), a region highly vulnerable to hydroclimatic hazards and strongly dependent on rainfall-driven socioeconomic systems. The region experiences two main rainfall seasons, namely the long rains (March-May, MAM) and the short rains (October-December, OND). This study investigates future projections of the characteristics of extreme precipitation across the EA using an ensemble of biascorrected CMIP6 global climate models. Extreme …

Tightness in the distal hamstring is a common complaint among active individuals. While a foam roller is used to release muscle tension, there are limited studies about the effect using a vibrating foam roller (VFR) on hamstring flexibility and knee range of motion (ROM). For this reason, the purpose of the research was to compare the effect of a VFR and nonvibrating foam roller (NVFR) on hamstring flexibility and knee ROM in active college students. It was hypothesized that there would be more improvement in hamstring flexibility and knee ROM with a VFR than an NVFR. A randomized controlled trial …

Background: Children with Down Syndrome (DS) exhibit immune dysregulation and increased susceptibility to severe pneumonia. While associations between immune status and infection risk are known, the relationship between specific baseline immune markers and respiratory parameters at the initial presentation of acute pneumonia in this population is unclear. Objective: To investigate the correlation between baseline serum immunoglobulin levels, white blood cell count (WBCs), and baseline respiratory parameters (respiratory rate and arterial oxygen saturation) in children with DS presenting with acute pneumonia. Material and methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study analyzed baseline data from 40 children with DS and acute pneumonia enrolled prior …
Limb Dominance Does Not Affect Single-Leg Hop Performance In Non-Injured Young Athletes, Rawan Aldhabi
Limb Dominance Does Not Affect Single-Leg Hop Performance In Non-Injured Young Athletes, Rawan Aldhabi
Journal of Medical Rehabilitation Science
Background: The concept of leg dominance is important in clinical settings. Single-leg hop (SLH) tests are frequently used to assess injury-risk and guide return-to-sport decision after lower-limb injury, yet the influence of limb dominance on SLH performance in non-injured young athletes remains unclear. The aim of the study was to examine the influence of limb dominance on SLH test performance in young healthy athletes, and to explore the relationships among different types of SLH tests. Methods: Forty-seven healthy collegiate athletes (mean age 21.44 ± 3.5 years; 26 males and 21 females) completed three SLH tests: single hop for distance (SHD), …

Predictive Role Of Mindset And Neuroplasticity Knowledge On Epistemological Beliefs Among Academic Doctors, Fahad A Somaa
Journal of Medical Rehabilitation Science
Background: Neuroplasticity the brain's capacity for structural and functional reorganization, plays a central role in learning, adaptation, and professional development. Educators' understanding of neuroplasticity, together with their mindset, may influence their epistemological beliefs and teaching practices. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which mindset and neuroplasticity knowledge predict epistemological beliefs among academic doctors working in medical and rehabilitation education. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was undertaken among the 309 academic doctors working in medical colleges and teaching hospitals. Demographics, neuroplasticity knowledge, mindset and epistemological beliefs were the primary outcome measures and collected data. …
