Optimization Of Air Defense And Antimissile Firepower Resource Allocation Based On Adaptive Hybrid Evolution, Wei Liu, Delong Chen, Ze Liu, Rui Wang, Kaiwen Li, Tao Zhang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Air defense and antimissile firepower resource allocation is a core optimization problem in modern defense systems. Under complex conditions such as spatiotemporal constraints and firepower resource limitations, this problem involves the optimal configuration of limited interceptors and belongs to the class of NP-hard multi-constrained combinatorial optimization problems. This paper established a comprehensive mathematical model encompassing range constraints, time window constraints, feasibility matrices, and interception probability models. To address the high-dimensional nonlinearity of the problem, an adaptive hybrid evolutionary algorithm (AHEA) was proposed. The algorithm integrated problem-aware initialization, adaptive parameter control, seven specialized neighborhood search operators, and an adaptive strategy …

Mechanism Analysis Of Parasitic Torque In Electric Loading Systems, Xiaozhe Sun, Zhenyu Fu, Zhaoke Xu, Jianxin Li
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To address the issues of sources and mechanisms of parasitic torque in electric loading systems for aircraft actuator loads, a functional model of the electric loading system was established. Numerical simulations and Monte Carlo methods were employed to analyze the sources of parasitic torque and its primary influencing factors. The influence mechanisms and degrees of the system's external inputs and internal disturbances on parasitic torque were analyzed and validated through single-parameter and multi-parameter analyses. The results indicate that parasitic torque is predominantly influenced by factors such as loading command frequency, sensor signal bias, and loading motor parameters. In particular, …

Overall Design Method Of Low Earth Orbit Communication Satellite Based On Mbse, Jiace Shang, Rui Zhang, Ya Dai, Hua Zhu, Siqi Hu, Linqiang Ge, Chenguang Shi
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Drawing on the model-centric design philosophy of model-based systems engineering (MBSE), this study constructs a model architecture suitable for the design and analysis of low Earth orbit communication satellites. This architecture adopts a multi-dimensional matrix approach. Vertically, it traverses the mission layer, system layer, satellite general design layer, and subsystem layer, achieving top-down hierarchical decoupling. Horizontally, it establishes a comprehensive view mapping mechanism covering the domains of requirements, functions, structure, and performance. Integrating the characteristics of product development, a modeling process covering the entire lifecycle—from mission demonstration and overall design to subsystem design and integration verification—has been established. The …

This study aimed to inform nightlight design by analyzing older adults’ subjective feedback and kinematic responses during evening activities. Twenty-seven older adults (mean age: 81 ± 6 years; 14 females) participated in the study. Their preferences for nightlight illuminance and hue were surveyed, and gait and posture adaptations under two illuminance levels were analyzed using spatiotemporal comparisons, principal component analysis (PCA) based analysis, and waveform reconstruction. The results revealed that older adults preferred low illuminance over high illuminance, with warm white and cool colors as the favored choices for evening lighting. Significant differences were observed in spatiotemporal gait variables, particularly …
When The States Lost Their Senate: The Seventeenth Amendment, Katelyn King
When The States Lost Their Senate: The Seventeenth Amendment, Katelyn King
Honors College Theses
To what extent has the Seventeenth Amendment impacted American federalism? The Seventeenth Amendment changed the way United States Senators are chosen from state legislature appointment to popular direct election. However, the framers of the U.S. Constitution established the original method for selecting U.S. Senators to safeguard an important principle in America’s government: federalism. If the Seventeenth Amendment decreased direct state influence in the federal government, it could have weakened federalism in America; consequently, the amendment may have altered how the American system of government is supposed to function. The U.S. Senate’s selection process was not only a safeguard for federalism …

Exploring Alternate Methods Of Flood Output Estimation During Natural Disasters, Finley Gardner
Honors College Theses
In April of 2025, extreme flooding damaged many homes and buildings of people across Kentucky. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) produces maps that show the potential for flooding in areas around water bodies, but many of the April flooding damaged areas were well outside of the FEMA classification zones. The main purpose of this thesis research was to create an accurate model of potential flood extent in Kentucky and compare it to FEMA maps. This model did not require extensive computing power and produced a map that accurately depicted flood extent through the use of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) …

Lost In Thought: An Exploration Of Musical Perception And An Original Piece For Orchestra, Matthew Moix
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis presents an original two-movement musical composition orchestrated for full orchestra titled Lost in Thought, based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series Heartstopper (2018-2023). The work explores the relationship between two different characters from the series, Nick and Charlie. It emphasizes the different perspectives of these characters and explores the concept of how two different points of view can tell the same story in different ways. An accompanying analysis of the work explains how the two movements illustrate the characters' individual mindsets throughout their version of the story, as well as showing their personal character development and how their …

Latinx college students are the fastest growing student population, enrolling into college at higher rates than any other group, yet their retention rates are concerningly low (Almanzar & Ruedas-Gracia, 2024). Research has shown that Latinx students disproportionately experience hostile campus climates and feel the negative effect on their sense of belonging (Hurtado & Carter, 1997). Additionally, Latinx students at predominantly white institutions regularly encounter challenges that lead to feelings of isolation and a higher likelihood of departing from college (Benavides et al., 2024). This project uses Samuel D. Museus’ (2014) Culturally Engaging Campus Environment (CECE) Model as the main framework …
Supporting First-Generation Students By Bridging The Social Capital Gap, Bailey A. Pudlowski
Supporting First-Generation Students By Bridging The Social Capital Gap, Bailey A. Pudlowski
Masters Projects
First-generation students are an increasing presence on college campuses. First-generation students are coming to school, with a gap in social capital in comparison to their continuing- generation peers. First-generation students need support and resources to counteract this capital gap. Using self-determination theory (1985) and Astin’s theory of involvement (1984) as drivers to gauge best practices to support first year students. Using those theories, as well as taking first- generation student demographics into account, I created a workshop that has a goal of bridging the social capital gap between first-generation students and their peers. This workshop focuses on having students reflect …

An Educational Intervention To Increase Nurses’ Knowledge And Confidence Of Patient Mobility, Debbie Ann Pytak
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Immobility is a significant concern given that nearly half of all hospitalized adults are immobile during their hospitalization, placing them at increased risk for adverse outcomes. As a result, it is critical for nurses to implement strategies that promote safe, structured patient mobility. Thus, the purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to determine if an educational intervention focused on patient mobility and standardized mobility tool utilization increased knowledge and confidence among nursing staff in an acute care setting. Ten participants volunteered to attend the educational intervention. The average age of the participants was 44.30 years (SD …

Elasmobranchii Oral Microbiome Diversity Within Southeast Florida: Implications Of Shark Zoonotic And Antibiotic Resistant Pathogens Associated With Human Interactions, Amanda Finnefrock
All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations
Sharks are incredibly common in the Atlantic and Gulf waters surrounding Florida. Despite the prevalent nature of these animals, little research exists on the composition of their microbial communities (or “microbiomes”). Here we aim to determine the microbial makeup of the oral environment of sharks so that we can determine if there are any bacteria of clinical significance to humans, such as being antibiotic-resistant or having elevated capability for pathogenicity. A total of 41 samples were collected from the mouths and teeth of bull, Caribbean reef, great hammerhead, lemon, nurse, and sandbar sharks caught in Southeast Florida using sterile swabs …

It’s like an allergic reaction. I’ve avoided talking about them, writing about them, and covering them in my Administrative Law course like the plague. Leave it to Richard (“Chip”) Murphy, famous for his entertaining and informative annual reviews of …

Presidential Administration After Arthrex, Noah A. Rosenblum, Roderick M. Hills Jr.
Duke Law Journal
The federal government employs over 2 million civilian workers, all but a few thousand of whom enjoy forms of tenure and insulation from presidential control. This bureaucracy, sometimes called "the administrative state," is organized in a many-layered structure defined by statutes and regulations. Pursuant to law and court decisions, the administrative state routinely makes findings of fact, policy determinations, and conclusions of law, sometimes independent of the president. The Supreme Court's recent decision in United States v. Arthrex risks unsettling this arrangement. It adopts a simplistic, hierarchical vision of bureaucratic organization, which is frankly incompatible with existing statutes and regulations. …
Sustainability, Culture, And Higher Education: An Autoethnographic Sustainability Comparison Of The Sustainability Initiatives At The University Of Salzburg And Bowling Green State University, Madison Alt
Honors Projects
Human activity is already triggering damaging environmental tipping points (Lenton, 2020), emphasizing the need for sustainability in all aspects of development. Institutes of Higher Education (IHEs) have the power and responsibility to contribute to a more sustainable world (Parr et al., 2022). Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Ohio, United States, and the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg (PLUS) in Salzburg, Austria are two IHEs with multifaceted sustainability programs. While living and studying at BGSU and PLUS, I used autoethnography, a personal narrative approach, combined with public sustainability information to compare the sustainability initiatives at each university, and determine what …

Recent agricultural applications of engineered metallic nanoparticles (ENPs) have raised concerns about their uptake and fate in plants. To understand this critical issue, this study investigated the fate and uptake of silver (Ag) and zinc oxide (ZnO) ENPs in maize (Zea mays L.) after single or binary ENP exposure in soil. Results indicated that both Zn and Ag elemental concentrations in roots increased with increasing ENP dosage. Ag NPs in the tissues were detected, but not Zn NPs. Ag NP concentration was 3 times higher in the roots than in the shoots at low Ag NP dosing, while Ag NP …

Evaluating The Nuclear Structure Of Some Calcium Mirror Nuclei, Sukaina Falah Hassan, Ban Sabah Hameed
Baghdad Science Journal
In this study, we calculated the binding energy of nuclei, which holds atomic nuclei together, by utilizing electron scattering transformations in the shell model to explore the nuclear structure for proton-rich pairs of mirror nuclei: 34Ca-34Si, 0Ca-35P, 36Ca-36S, and 37Ca-37Cl. The proton envelope that surrounds the proton-rich nucleus explains why the nucleus charge and its mirror image have different radii. The wave functions for single particles were adopted from the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock approximation and Wood-Saxon potential to compute the mirror radii, mirror charge radii, and skin thickness for protons …

Digitalisation of records management among other things, improves access to records and results in efficiency and effectiveness in the functions of an organisation. Because of the potential benefits of digitalisation, several governments globally have automated registries and records centres. However, governments in the Global South, Zambia inclusive have not digitalised the records sub sector. This study investigated the consequences of not digitalising registries and records centres in public service in Zambia. A survey research design was used combining both quantitative and qualitative research techniques. Data was collected from a sample 118 respondents and key informants. Qualitative data was collected through …

This article examines decolonization and indigenization initiatives at two academic libraries: the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the University of New Mexico (UNM). It asks how these institutions have implemented indigenization in their libraries and what lessons can inform broader reconciliation work across North America. Through a comparative lens, it analyzes how national and organizational frameworks, such as the Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA-FCAB) Truth and Reconciliation Report and Recommendations and the American Indian Library Association’s (AILA) organizational goals, can shape these efforts. The study highlights three core strategies: decolonizing access and classification, transforming library spaces, and expanding …
