Haven: Helping Hotels Detect Human Trafficking Together Without Sharing Guest Data, Mahboubeh Cheraghian, Saeed Vayghan, Mehmet Erdem Oct 2026

Haven: Helping Hotels Detect Human Trafficking Together Without Sharing Guest Data, Mahboubeh Cheraghian, Saeed Vayghan, Mehmet Erdem

ICHRIE Research Reports

In the global response to human trafficking, the hospitality industry occupies a crucial but understudied role. A 2018 Polaris survivor survey, based on a self-selected sample rather than a representative prevalence study, found that approximately three out of four respondents had interacted with a hotel at some point during their exploitation. The core challenge is that no single property accumulates sufficient information to act independently. Traffickers deliberately rotate guests across three or four properties within a week, and privacy regulations including the GDPR and CCPA, together with the duty hotels owe their guests, make it unlawful for properties to compare …

2026 Persimmon Creek - Full Journal, Beth Keefauver, Wayne C. Robbins

Persimmon Creek

Dear Readers: Literary journals are a common component of colleges and universities spanning across many continents. As many students experience the drastic transition from childhood to independence, emotions can feel overwhelming, and life can quickly become flooded with anxiety. Writing is an outlet for many; a place humanity turns to as a form of secure therapy.

In William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost, Berowne muses, “Never durst poet touch a pen to write until his ink were temper’d with Love’s sighs” (Act 4, Scene 3).

Without emotion, writing has no depth. The words on the page might seem eloquent, but the …

Where Do We Go From Here? A Future Research Agenda For Ai In Education, Ejike Okonkwo

Essays in Education

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping education, creating new possibilities for teaching, learning, assessment, and professional development. This review synthesizes thirteen articles from the 2026 AI special issue of Essays in Education to identify common themes and tensions, with particular attention to evidence gaps surrounding these developments. As a selected collection of perspectives and educational contexts, the special issue provides insight into emerging areas of AI-related educational practice rather than a comprehensive account of the field. The interconnected issues that emerge include pedagogical integration and human agency, cognitive development and learning, AI literacy, ethics and equity, and institutional alignment. …

The Female Voice: Hormones, Literature And Education, Meg Booker Oct 2026

The Female Voice: Hormones, Literature And Education, Meg Booker

Confluence: Emerging Voices in Music Research and Creativity

The female body experiences significant hormonal change throughout the stages of life, and these fluctuations can substantially impact the voice. Many female singers are aware that their voice changes during times such as menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause, but they are rarely taught the scientific reasons behind these changes. A review of pedagogical books and research studies reveals that many earlier sources either ignored or misunderstood the connection between hormones and the voice. Conversations with singers further highlight that, despite commonly experiencing these changes, many women receive little to no formal education on the topic. This paper explores how hormones affect …

Structuring Clinical Readiness Through The Core Model In Csd Graduate Education, Camille Byrd O'Quin, Elaine Reyna, Angela M. Riccelli, Jessica Bonner, Judy Platt, Nicole Bing

Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders

This article introduces the CORE Clinical Orientation Model, a conceptual framework designed to support early clinical readiness in speech-language pathology graduate education. Grounded in the field's shift from traditional site-based apprenticeship models toward more structured, faculty-supported approaches, the model addresses documented variability in early clinical supervision and student preparedness. The CORE Model is organized around four interrelated pillars: Clinical Foundations, Ongoing Reflection, Rigorous Clinical Application, and Engaged & Intentional Mentorship. Although the model was developed alongside a graduate clinical orientation course, the course represents one implementation of the framework. This article describes the theoretical and professional foundations of the CORE …

Exploring Graduate Students’ Perspectives Of Clinical Supervision In Speech-Language Pathology: A Qualitative Study Of Facilitators And Barriers, Andrew J. Clare, Joyce Maring

Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders

This qualitative study explored second-year graduate students’ perceptions of clinical supervision practices in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), focusing on how specific aspects of the supervisory approach were experienced by students as either barriers or facilitators to their learning during clinical practicum experiences. Twenty graduate students from a single SLP program, each with experience in at least seven clinical practica, participated in semi-structured interviews. An inductive thematic analysis approach was used to examine the patterns in the students’ experiences. Two mirrored sets of themes emerged, reflecting the dual importance of relational and pedagogical aspects of supervision. Facilitators included supportive relationships and effective …

Evaluation Of The Short-Term Influence Of Intra-Articular Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection In Patients With Temporomandibular Joint Internal Derangement: A Randomised, Saline-Controlled Clinical Study, Hussein Salam Abdulraheem Twayej, Sabah Abdul Rasool Hammoodi Alheeti Oct 2026

Evaluation Of The Short-Term Influence Of Intra-Articular Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection In Patients With Temporomandibular Joint Internal Derangement: A Randomised, Saline-Controlled Clinical Study, Hussein Salam Abdulraheem Twayej, Sabah Abdul Rasool Hammoodi Alheeti

Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences

Temporomandibular joint disc displacement commonly causes pain, joint sounds, and limited mouth opening, yet the optimal minimally invasive treatment remains uncertain. Platelet-rich plasma, an autologous concentrate of growth factors, has been proposed to encourage intra-articular repair, but placebo-controlled evidence is limited. This randomised, saline-controlled trial compared a single intra-articular injection of platelet-rich plasma with normal saline over the short term. Twenty joints were randomised 1:1 to platelet-rich plasma or to 0.9% normal saline as a control. Pain (10-point visual analogue scale), joint sound (0–2 ordinal scale), and maximum interincisal opening (in millimetres) were recorded at baseline and at one week. …

Saudi Toxicology Journal

Background: Cannabis is the most commonly used internationally controlled substance worldwide, with increasing rates of heavy use and cannabis use disorder (CUD) among adolescents and adults. While epidemiological evidence links cannabis exposure to both metabolic dysfunction and cognitive impairment, these outcomes have been examined predominantly in isolation. The mechanistic relationship between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and cannabis-related cognitive deficits remains poorly characterized. Objective: This review critically appraises the evidence linking cannabis use to metabolic dysfunction and cognitive impairment, proposes an integrative ``Cannabis–Metabolic–Cognitive Axis'' model, and identifies gaps limiting causal inference in the existing literature. Key Findings: Human studies frequently report lower …

Due to the electricity shortage in the power system, it is essential to provide solutions considering optimal economics and environmental protection. Utilizing renewable energy resources (RERs) for production within existing grid infrastructure contributes to a more efficient and eco-friendly power system. The literature has mainly focused on designing individual configurations, often on a single unit, and has often excluded network flexibility and operational strategies such as the DR model. This study details the techno-economic evaluation of a grid-connected hybrid renewable energy system and real-world load demands across two scenarios at the regional and city levels, conducted under Baghdad city's climatic …

Cmsi Note 25: Precluding The Powerful Enemy: A New Pla Concept For A Taiwan Conflict, Ryan D. Martinson Oct 2026

Cmsi Note 25: Precluding The Powerful Enemy: A New Pla Concept For A Taiwan Conflict, Ryan D. Martinson

CMSI Notes

Key Takeaways:

  • In recent years, the PLA has employed a new concept—“preclusion” (shezu)—that captures the two related missions of deterring and denying U.S. military intervention in a Taiwan conflict.
  • While the precise origin of the term is unknown, as early as 2019 it appeared in an internal PLA article written by a PLA Navy admiral with direct responsibility for commanding forces in a Taiwan campaign. This early use of the concept suggested that “deterrence” (慑) and “denial” (阻) were two steps in a three-step graduated PLA response to U.S. military intervention.
  • Since the intensification of PLA operations around Taiwan that …

Evidence Synthesis Of The Ethical And Legal Challenges Of Generative Artificial Intelligence In The Provision Of Patient Health Information, Krithika Anil, Inocencio Maramba, David Cook, Daniel Cyrus, Zhamayne Fakharuzi, Amir Hossein Namdar, Timothy West, Sandeep Shirgill

Peninsula Medical School

Large language model (LLM)-based generative AI offers the promise of responsive health information for patients and carers but presents ethical and legal challenges when used outside clinical oversight. This review maps these considerations for patients accessing information on long-term conditions in non-clinical settings. Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, and Web of Science) between April and May 2025. The review synthesises 24 cross-sectional studies regarding patient-facing LLMs, excluding clinician-support tools. Results indicate that LLMs perform well on general topics but struggle with specialised information, often generating complex responses with unreliable citations. Ethical concerns highlight inaccuracy, insufficient empathy, …

Screening and demographic questionnaires, field notes, and member checking were also used to support …

A Wicked Humanity Original Sin In The Theology Of John Wesley And Jonathan Edwards, Vincent Andrew Sullivan Oct 2026

A Wicked Humanity Original Sin In The Theology Of John Wesley And Jonathan Edwards, Vincent Andrew Sullivan

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The source of human wickedness is not in a fault in our education, but a fault in our nature. Ignorance is not the root of human depravity; rather, there is an innate propensity in the human soul to gravitate, not towards the light, but towards the darkness. This truth, i.e., the doctrine of Original Sin, was fiercely maintained in the 18th century by John Wesley, the Father of Methodism, and by Jonathan Edwards, the last of the Puritans. Both of these men each wrote a large treatise on this same topic matter, that of Original Sin, and for the same …
