Microbusiness Owner-Managers And Financial Planning: A Transtheoretical Model Of Behaviour Change Approach, Christopher L. Gorman Oct 2026

Microbusiness Owner-Managers And Financial Planning: A Transtheoretical Model Of Behaviour Change Approach, Christopher L. Gorman

Annual DBA Scholars Conference

The practitioner-scholar proposes a cross-sectional study to investigate how microbusiness owner-managers adopt financial planning behaviour through the lens of the Transtheoretical Model of Behaviour Change (TTM). The study will examine the TTM’s stages of change and the factors that influence these owner-managers’ decisions to engage in financial planning. By applying a behaviour change framework to an underexplored area of financial planning research, the study will aim to identify barriers and opportunities to microbusiness owners’ adoption of financial planning. The findings will inform strategies CFP® professionals can use to enhance client engagement, communication, and decision-making among microbusiness owner-managers.

Trust But Verify: Testing A Framework For Ai Interrogation In Nursing Education, Michael Chamberlain Oct 2026

Trust But Verify: Testing A Framework For Ai Interrogation In Nursing Education, Michael Chamberlain

AI in the Classroom: A Virtual Summit

Generative AI produces fluent, confident output that is sometimes fabricated. Nursing students increasingly submit work built on sources that do not exist, or that exist and do not support the claims drawn from them. This session reports two semesters of classroom observation testing whether prompt design can address that problem.   The hypothesis was that structuring student prompts to require the AI to validate its own sources would improve detection of hallucinated citations. It did not. Across two sections, students who used the structured format caught fabricated citations at the same rate as students given an open prompt. Structure did change …

2025 Medicaid Cuts Effect On Substance Use Intervention And Treatment, Noah K. Pierini Oct 2026

2025 Medicaid Cuts Effect On Substance Use Intervention And Treatment, Noah K. Pierini

Modern Psychological Studies

The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” passed by congress will negatively impact substance use disorder (SUD) intervention and treatment. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) will be dismantled, state grants will be eliminated, and a streamlined enrollment process will be terminated. Vulnerable populations will experience more significant losses of insurance coverage in general and greater upticks in SUD-related mortality specifically. This is due to these populations relying on Medicaid for both overall and behavioral health care at a higher-than-average rate. Currently, research is limited on the relationship between SDoH and Medicaid’s effect on SUD intervention and treatment. Furthermore, there exists almost …

The Impact Of Cry-It-Out On The Parent-Child Relationship In Early Adolescence, Doris Prela, Melissa Dimartino Oct 2026

The Impact Of Cry-It-Out On The Parent-Child Relationship In Early Adolescence, Doris Prela, Melissa Dimartino

Modern Psychological Studies

Cry-It-Out (CIO) is a sleeping training technique where parents allow their infants to cry for periods of time without intervention, with the goal of teaching them to fall asleep independently and self-soothe. This study is one of the first to explore the effects of CIO on the parent-child relationship in early adolescence. A group (N = 25) of middle school parents and students were recruited to participate. Parents filled out a brief questionnaire about their child’s sleep patterns, creating two groups: (1) CIO and (2) non-CIO groups. Afterwards, middle school students filled out parent attachment inventory which measured parental trust, …

"We Are Still Here”: Curating A High Quality Native American Children’S Book Collection For The Elementary Classroom, Lucia Benzor

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

Elementary social studies educators face many challenges in the classroom when teaching on the subject of Native Americans. In addition to outdated materials or a lack of resources that inaccurately depict Native Americans as well as stereotypes found in a variety of media, students are left with various misconceptions that they bring with them to the classroom. To begin to combat these hurdles, the author advocates for the use of high quality picture books written by Indigenous authors and shares a carefully curated list of texts and suggestions for classroom use. The list features both fiction and nonfiction that address …

From Classroom Community To Civic Community: Three Activities For Social Studies Teachers And Teacher Educators, Sonia Janis, Samantha Hand, Hyelin Kim

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

In politically uncertain times, social studies educators must cultivate classrooms where students feel valued, develop trust, take intellectual risks, and engage substantively with controversial issues and difficult histories. Drawing on our implementation of three community-building activities in a spring 2026 social studies education course, we describe how pre-service teachers (PSTs) experienced these activities as opportunities for relationship-building, identity exploration, and collaborative learning while preparing to teach difficult histories to local eighth-grade students. Each activity is paired with adaptations for middle and high school settings, including suggestions that attend to technology, student privacy, and diverse forms of expression. Community-building is an …

Baseball’S Anti-Trust Exemption And Major League Baseball Labor Relations In The 20th Century, Shawn M. Smith Oct 2026

Baseball’S Anti-Trust Exemption And Major League Baseball Labor Relations In The 20th Century, Shawn M. Smith

Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History

Baseball, being America's pastime and the most popular sport in the professional ranks from the 1870s onward for at least another century beyond that, gives us a lens wherethrough we may see so much about American culture, economics and society during this time period. This work looks at baseball’s unique economic position throughout the 20th century and how it changed over the course of time. Baseball had an exclusive arrangement unavailable to other industries in that it had an anti-trust exemption, which was based on the 1922 Supreme Court decision in  Federal Baseball Club of Baltimore v. National League. …

Silk And Authority: The Political Meaning Of Elite Women's Fashion In Europe, Kaylee S. Rupasinghe Oct 2026

Silk And Authority: The Political Meaning Of Elite Women's Fashion In Europe, Kaylee S. Rupasinghe

Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History

Fashion for women has not always been about personal style and fashion trends, but women's fashion among the elite has served in ways to express a woman's identity, authority, and wealth to the public. By analyzing Elizabeth I, Marie Antoinette, and Victoria, noticeable differences and outcomes occur based on what they wore, how they wore their clothing, and the self-portraits they released to the public. This analysis suggests that elite women in European history went beyond fashion trends with their clothing choices and shaped a society with the clothing they wore.

No New Lessons: The Impact Of World War 2 On The American Fire Service, Brady L. Hutchison Oct 2026

No New Lessons: The Impact Of World War 2 On The American Fire Service, Brady L. Hutchison

Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History

Large loss of life fires occurred with terrifying regularity in 1940s America. While overseas, the nation’s military waged a war on tyranny and oppression abroad, at home, the country faced an enemy every bit as deadly. Tradition in the fire service has held the notion that the 1940s saw so many deadly fires due to the nation being at war. The war, it is believed, drained fire departments of manpower, dramatically increased the call volume for departments, and led departments to cut or suspend fire inspections owing to lack of manpower. With that, the consensus is that fire codes in …

The Many Lives Of Benjamin Franklin: A Historiographical Examination Of America’S First Self-Made Man, Michael W. Cunningham Oct 2026

The Many Lives Of Benjamin Franklin: A Historiographical Examination Of America’S First Self-Made Man, Michael W. Cunningham

Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History

This paper explores how Benjamin Franklin's historiography has changed over time. It argues that Franklin has been reinterpreted throughout American history and that these reinterpretations say just as much about America as they do about Franklin. Instead of taking a chronological approach to Franklin's life, this study explores how historians have thought about Franklin over time, starting with eighteenth-century writers and ending with historians writing in the twenty-first century. The life of Franklin has been used to exemplify upward mobility, middle-class virtues, and republican success stories, but has more recently been the subject of revisionist scholarship focused on slavery and …

Connecting Tourism And Mobility: The Emerging Role Of Interpreter-Driver Guides After Deregulation In Japan, Naoko Tanaka

International Journal of Tour Guiding and Visitor Attraction Research

Recent regulatory changes in Japan have enabled licensed interpreter-guides to engage in driver-guiding, combining guiding and driving within a single professional role. While driver-guiding has attracted attention as a means of improving tourist mobility and diversifying tourism services, limited research has examined how interpreter-guides themselves experience and negotiate this emerging form of work under conditions of deregulation. This study explores interpreter-guides’ engagement in driver-guiding through qualitative interviews with 14 licensed interpreter-guides operating in rural and urban contexts in Japan. Drawing on thematic analysis, the study examines how driver-guiding is practiced, understood, and experienced in relation to mobility, working conditions, and …

A Read-Only Listening Companion That Shows A Tabletop Role-Playing Group's Own Campaign Notes As Names Are Spoken, Wayne Bolt Oct 2026

A Read-Only Listening Companion That Shows A Tabletop Role-Playing Group's Own Campaign Notes As Names Are Spoken, Wayne Bolt

Defensive Publications Series

Long tabletop role-playing campaigns build up hundreds of invented names. General speech recognition mishears exactly these names, so looking something up during play rarely happens. This disclosure describes a read-only companion that listens to a game and shows what the group's own notes say about each name as it is spoken. Speech is turned into text on the player's own device, from the computer's sound (a video call), a microphone (a physical table), or both. Recognition can be primed with the campaign's names. The text is matched against a casebook built from the group's notes database, with entries, aliases and …

A Read-Only, Consultation-Aware Panel That Shows A Patient’S Earlier History Of Each Item As It Is Recorded In An Electronic Health Record, Wayne Bolt

Defensive Publications Series

A method and system for showing a clinician, alongside an open consultation and without extra work, where each item being recorded (a coded diagnosis, symptom, procedure, measurement, medicine or short note) has appeared before in the same patient’s record. A program on the clinician’s workstation notices entries as they are saved, by observing the electronic health record’s own traffic or interfaces and re-reading the consultation draft, and binds every result to one patient by requiring several independent sources to agree and discarding late answers. It retrieves the patient’s history through the record’s own interfaces, matching by concept identifier, ancestor concepts, …

Twinning Behavior Of Molecule-Adapted Gaussian-Type Orbitals (Gtos) In Cyclo-Hydrocarbons, Tong-Hyok Cha, Gum-Chol Kim, Kwang-Jin Ri, Jin-Nam Kim, Yong-Su Pak Oct 2026

Twinning Behavior Of Molecule-Adapted Gaussian-Type Orbitals (Gtos) In Cyclo-Hydrocarbons, Tong-Hyok Cha, Gum-Chol Kim, Kwang-Jin Ri, Jin-Nam Kim, Yong-Su Pak

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The saturated cyclo-hydrocarbons CnH2n (n = 3–7) were constructed by the iterative coupling of the structural unit groups (SUGs), specifically the SUG-CH2C2 fragment, which was previously established for molecular basis optimization. For the McLean–Chandler 6-311+G basis set, under the SUG perturbation, the outer (s′, p′) and diffuse (sʺ, pʺ) primitive Gaussian type orbitals for the core-atom C* of SUG-CH2C2 undergo an off-center spatial displacement into a twinning configuration. Specifically, the s-type twins (s′, sʺ) share identical Gaussian exponents and are symmetrically shifted toward the two neighboring carbon atoms, while the p-type twins (p′, pʺ) exhibit a matching configuration. Generally, this …

Phytochemical Characterization, Cytotoxic Effects, And Potential Oxidative Dna Damage-Modulating Activities Of Arum Italicum Extract, Oznour Mourat Moustafa, Hülya Yağar

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Arum italicum is traditionally utilized in the Thrace region for the treatment of hepatic and dermatological disorders; however, experimental evidence supporting these ethnopharmacological applications remains limited. As oxidative stress-induced DNA damage is an important contributor to the pathogenesis of liver and skin diseases, the aim in the present study was to investigate the ability of A. italicum leaf and tuber extracts to modulate oxidative DNA damage in vitro using nontumorigenic and cancerous hepatic and cutaneous cell models. Phytochemical profiling, antioxidant capacity, and cytotoxic activity were also assessed to support and contextualize the observed DNA damage-related effects. In vitro investigations were conducted …

Facile One-Step Activated Glassy Carbon Electrode For Sensitive Tryptophan Sensing In Yogurt, Sevi̇lay Erdoğan Kablan, Ahmet Çeti̇nkaya, Si̇bel Özkan, Emi̇rhan Nemutlu Oct 2026

Facile One-Step Activated Glassy Carbon Electrode For Sensitive Tryptophan Sensing In Yogurt, Sevi̇lay Erdoğan Kablan, Ahmet Çeti̇nkaya, Si̇bel Özkan, Emi̇rhan Nemutlu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Activation of glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) in tailored solution environments introduces oxygenated surface functionalities such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, and quinone groups. These modifications enhance electron‐transfer kinetics and strengthen interactions with target analytes, thereby improving electrochemical sensitivity. In this study, square-wave voltammetry was used, and the most suitable supporting electrolyte for tryptophan (TRP) analysis was a pH 3 Britton–Robinson buffer. The cyclic voltammetry potential range and number of cycles for the Act-GCE were obtained as 0–1.5 V and seven cycles, respectively. The activated electrode exhibited excellent analytical performance, with a linear response for TRP over 0.20–6.28 μM, a detection limit of …
