Organic Coumarin Derivatives As Laser-Active Materials: A Review Of Synthesis, Optical Behaviour, And Applications, Aya H. Mohammed, Mohammed Hasan Al-Dahlaki

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Medical Sciences

Coumarin derivatives have settled into a position of unusual prominence among organic laser-active materials. Few other chromophore families combine such favourable photophysics with synthetic chemistry that is at once long-established and still actively evolving. The aim of this review is to draw together what is now known about coumarin-based laser dyes — their preparation, their optical behaviour, the laser performance that has been achieved with them, and the broader applications that have followed — with particular attention to work published between 2019 and 2026. Considerable space is given to the structural origin of the strong intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) character …

Chapter 19: Aerofeathers: Biomimetic Propellers With 3d-Printed Flexible Fibres For Quieter Drones, Bhisham Sharma, William Johnston, Janith Godakawela, Kara Hardy

Michigan Tech Publications

Excessive noise generated by drone propellers remains a major barrier to the widespread acceptance of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), especially in urban and noise-sensitive environments. Traditional approaches to mitigating propeller noise typically replicate bioinspired features such as rigid leading-edge serrations, which only partially capture the complex mechanisms underlying the exceptionally quiet flight of owls. In contrast, this research introduces AeroFeathers, a novel additive manufacturing (AM) technique that enables the direct 3D printing of thin, flexible, hair-like fibres onto propeller surfaces, closely mimicking the compliant, fringe-like structures found in owl feathers. Using low-cost, consumer-grade material extrusion printers combined with customised G-code, …

Term Limit Effects In Indonesia: Local Government Revenue Vs. Spending, Hanik Susilawati Muamarah

Jurnal Akuntansi dan Keuangan Indonesia

Background: The term limit of local leaders creates a puzzle between the "lame-duck effect" (declining performance) and the "competence effect" (improved performance). This study contextualizes this dilemma within the Indonesian context, which has strong incentives for non-re-election, such as the formation of political dynasties. We investigate this puzzle by examining the relationship between term-limited leaders and two distinct fiscal policy areas: regulation-bound tax revenue and discretionary capital expenditure. Methods: A fixed-effects model was employed to analyze panel data from 438 regencies and municipalities from 2017 to 2023. Findings: In the high-discretion area of spending, term-limited leaders increase capital expenditure, supporting …

Accurate estimation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from oil and gas (O&G) systems is essential for strengthening Malaysia’s national greenhouse gas inventory and supporting its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement. Current inventory estimates rely predominantly on Tier 1 default emission factors, which may not adequately represent country-specific operating conditions and gas characteristics. This study develops Tier 2 country-specific emission factors (CSEF) for venting, flaring, and all other fugitive emissions across Malaysia’s O&G systems. Emission factors were derived from gas composition based on operational data collected over five years from major O&G assets, representing over 80% of fugitive …

Exergy-Based Rematching Of A Crude Preheat-Train Heat Exchanger Network: An Industrial Refinery Case Study, Shuhaimi Mahadzir, Mohamed A Ali Maghtuf Jun 2026

Exergy-Based Rematching Of A Crude Preheat-Train Heat Exchanger Network: An Industrial Refinery Case Study, Shuhaimi Mahadzir, Mohamed A Ali Maghtuf

Platform: A Journal of Engineering

Crude distillation units are among the most energy-intensive systems in petroleum refineries because crude oil must be heated to the required atmospheric-column inlet temperature before fractionation. Although conventional heat-integration analysis quantifies heat recovery, it does not identify the degradation of energy quality caused by finite-temperature heat transfer and combustion irreversibility. This paper presents an exergy-based scenario analysis of the crude preheat-train heat exchanger network (HEN) and fired heater in an industrial crude distillation unit at Azzawiya Oil Refining Company (ARC), Libya. A base case was validated using steady-state energy balances and then evaluated using component-level physical exergy balances. Two feasible …

Fines Migration Versus Mineral Dissolution In Co₂ Injectivity Impairment: A Critical Review And Conceptual Framework For Clay-Rich Sandstone Reservoirs, Umarov Shahzodbek Bakhromjon Ugl Jun 2026

Fines Migration Versus Mineral Dissolution In Co₂ Injectivity Impairment: A Critical Review And Conceptual Framework For Clay-Rich Sandstone Reservoirs, Umarov Shahzodbek Bakhromjon Ugl

Platform: A Journal of Engineering

Sustained injectivity is a controlling operational requirement for geological CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers because near-wellbore permeability loss can restrict injection rates, accelerate pressure build-up and reduce storage efficiency. In sandstone reservoirs containing reactive or mobile clay minerals, CO2-saturated brine may induce coupled geochemical and colloidal processes that cannot be interpreted through bulk porosity change alone. This review critically synthesises evidence on CO2-brine-rock interaction, clay mineral response, fines detachment, pore-throat restriction and injectivity impairment in sandstone systems. The reviewed literature indicates that mineral dissolution, secondary precipitation, salt precipitation, wettability alteration and fines migration can operate simultaneously, but their effects …

Building An Inclusive Workforce: Closing Equity Gaps In Community Colleges And Vocational Schools With Elliott’S Embodied Inclusion 360 Framework Plain Language Summary, Niki Elliott Ph.D.

Inclusion in Postsecondary Education

This paper explains why community colleges and vocational schools need to do more to support students who are neurodiverse (such as students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or mental health conditions), especially students of color and men of color. Community colleges and vocational schools serve millions of students and are often the main path to good-paying jobs in the skilled trades. However, many students who enroll, especially students with disabilities and students of color, do not complete their programs. The article argues that schools must move beyond basic disability accommodations and instead redesign how they teach, support, and structure learning environments.

Rethinking The Assessment In Soap: The D.D. & C.C.C., Paul-Jer Chen, Hsiao-Chuan Lin, Walter Chen

Journal of Medical Education

The SOAP framework serves as the standard operating procedure for patient care and clinical documentation. While gathering ``Subjective'' and ``Objective'' data is relatively straightforward, the ``Assessment'' phase is the most challenging, requiring complex clinical reasoning and a synthesis of evidence. This paper proposes an innovative mnemonic, D.D. & C.C.C. (Differential Diagnosis, Cause, Consequence, and Complication), to systematize this process. The D.D. component encourages considering alternative diagnoses to prevent medical errors. The three Cs guide physicians in identifying specific etiology, predicting natural disease progression, and evaluating potential secondary risks. Integrating these elements into the ``Plan'' (Diagnostic, Therapeutic, and Educational) ensures logical …
