The Right To (Digital) Identity, Sarah M. Snow Jan 2025

The Right To (Digital) Identity, Sarah M. Snow

Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal

Identity verification is a prerequisite for full participation in modern society. Access to financial services, employment, housing, healthcare, education, and civic engagement all hinge on an individual’s ability to prove their identity. Millions of Americans—particularly marginalized groups—struggle with the rigid, bureaucratic, and often discriminatory processes of traditional identity verification systems. Without legally recognized identification, individuals are effectively excluded from economic and civic life. This Note argues that the ability to prove one’s identity is a protected interest. It proposes adoption of a federal Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) as a legal and technological mechanism to guarantee all Americans have access to a …

Can Eastern Wisdom Solve Western Problems? A Book Review On Sun Tzu’S “The Art Of War”, Tian Qin Jan 2025

Can Eastern Wisdom Solve Western Problems? A Book Review On Sun Tzu’S “The Art Of War”, Tian Qin

Health Care Administration Faculty Research

This paper explores how Eastern philosophical wisdom, specifically Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, can be applied to address modern Western organizational challenges. By drawing parallels between Sun Tzu’s military strategies and Bolman and Deal’s (2008) organizational theory—particularly the structural, political, and human resource frames—the review highlights how strategic evaluation, environmental awareness, and adaptive leadership can drive success in contemporary institutions. It critically examines Sun Tzu’s authoritative leadership style and its limitations, while emphasizing the continued relevance of strategic thinking, stakeholder analysis, and resource management in complex organizations such as higher education. The analysis suggests that while some of Sun …

Pushing The Limits Of Fermi-Gbm Data, Stephen Lesage Jan 2025

Pushing The Limits Of Fermi-Gbm Data, Stephen Lesage

Dissertations

The Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) is a wide-field survey instrument in a low-Earth, low-inclination orbit. It contains twelve sodium iodide detectors and two bismuth germanate detectors which together span an energy range from ~8 keV to ~40 MeV and observe the entire unocculted sky (~70%). The highest resolution GBM data product is the time-tagged event data which has ~2 microseconds temporal resolution and 128 pseudo-logarithmically spaced spectral channels. All of these factors make Fermi the perfect instrument for detecting a wide variety of high-energy terrestrial and astrophysical phenomena. In this dissertation, I implement new data analysis techniques to explore …

Understanding The Behaviors Of Internal Short Circuit And Thermal Runaway Of Li-Ion Batteries Through In Situ Diagnosis And Modeling, Siyi Liu Jan 2025

Understanding The Behaviors Of Internal Short Circuit And Thermal Runaway Of Li-Ion Batteries Through In Situ Diagnosis And Modeling, Siyi Liu

Dissertations

Internal short circuit (ISC) caused thermal runaway is a critical challenge for Li-ion batteries that are widely used in various applications. However, currently, there is still a lack of understanding on how exactly an ISC triggers thermal runaway. ISC is a highly localized and transient phenomenon, hence, in situ diagnosis is important in understanding the development of ISC. In this work, experimental methods were developed for simultaneous in situ measurement of ISC temperature, ISC current, and ISC resistance during slow nail penetration of small single-layer Li-ion cells and large-format multiple-layer Li-ion cells. Furthermore, the experimental results of multiple-layer Li-ion cells …

Increase Successful Outcomes With Technology-Driven Mergers And Acquisitions : Prioritize Post-Merger Integration Risk Mitigation, Kingsley Eromosele Usianeneh

Dissertations

In the post-COVID-19 era, accelerated engineering advances including Artificial Intelligence (AI) have increased firm’s reliance on technology-driven mergers and acquisitions (M&A) as an expedient strategy to bolster their technological innovation capabilities, retain competitive advantage and ensure sustainability. However, many M&As fail to achieve their strategic goals because of persistent challenges during post-merger integration (PMI). This dissertation adopts and integrates chapter 2 – chapter 4 to identify, theorize, and proactively mitigate the primary recurring PMI challenges that impede successful technology-driven M&A outcomes. Chapter 2 adopts PRISMA guidelines, conducts a systematic literature review, identifies, and synthesizes four persistent PMI risk categories: (1) …

Optimization And Efficacy Of Car T Cells Derived From Newly Generated Anti-Cd22 Monoclonal Antibody For Blood Cancer Treatment, Wipawadee Ruengdej Jan 2025

Optimization And Efficacy Of Car T Cells Derived From Newly Generated Anti-Cd22 Monoclonal Antibody For Blood Cancer Treatment, Wipawadee Ruengdej

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has revolutionized the treatment of B-cell malignancies. Nevertheless, relapse due to loss of CD19 expression remains a major clinical challenge. CD22 serves as an alternative target because of its consistent expression on malignant B cells, even in CD19-negative disease. Optimization of CD22-directed CAR design is therefore critical to enhance antitumor potency and persistence. Two novel anti-CD22 CAR constructs were generated from monoclonal antibody clones 24A7G6 and 29H9C8, each incorporating either a 4-1BB or CD28 costimulatory domain. The resulting CAR T cells were evaluated for proliferation, phenotype, and cytotoxicity against CD22-positive (Raji, Nalm-6) and CD22-negative …

Understanding Math Proficiency Gaps, Mia Cha Bustamante Jan 2025

Understanding Math Proficiency Gaps, Mia Cha Bustamante

Education Masters Theses

As a sixth-grade teacher at a suburban elementary school in the Pacific Northwest, I observed that many students entered my classroom with significant gaps in foundational math skills. In Fall 2025, my classroom-based assessments revealed that a majority of my students were performing below grade level, particularly in numbers and operations in base ten- place value in decimals, multi-digit calculations and operations, and algebraic thinking- translating words to expressions, finding patterns, and solving multi-step problems. The purpose of this research is to investigate the question: How do student-reported experiences with foundational skill gaps, COVID-19 disruptions, and emotional factors help explain …

Physical Therapy Faculty Publications

Objective: Musculoskeletal injuries pose a health threat to U.S. Service members. In particular, the physical demands of walking and running with load carriage contribute to a high incidence of musculoskeletal injuries of the lower back. Active ankle exoskeleton devices are promising technologies that may help mitigate the impact of load carriage on the incidence of these injuries. However, the safe extended use of these devices requires an understanding of their beneficial or detrimental effects on the lumbar spine. In this pilot study, we investigated the impact of walking with an ankle exoskeleton device on lumbar biomechanical responses.

Methods: We collected …

A Woman’S World Through The Lens Of Socialized Politics: How Accurate Knowledge Politically And Socially Empowers A Woman’S Autonomy, Claire G. Herzog Jan 2025

A Woman’S World Through The Lens Of Socialized Politics: How Accurate Knowledge Politically And Socially Empowers A Woman’S Autonomy, Claire G. Herzog

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Women have dealt with being perceived as inferior to men, defective, and in need of control. My research draws a connection between the ways societal beliefs, judicial action and political action interact with each other to reinforce and reproduce these limiting beliefs about women. The interaction between these institutions result in underlying policies that target women's rights, silencing their voices and sense of independence, all while aiming to control the female body completely. Despite the perception that modern society has moved away from the sexist beliefs that had been created and ingrained into society centuries ago, we are left with …

Family-Level Impacts Of Equine-Assisted Occupational Therapy For Children With Disabilities: An Exploratory Mixed-Methods Pilot Study, Emily Canigiula Jan 2025

Family-Level Impacts Of Equine-Assisted Occupational Therapy For Children With Disabilities: An Exploratory Mixed-Methods Pilot Study, Emily Canigiula

Doctoral Projects

Equine-assisted occupational therapy (EAOT) has been shown to enhance functional, social, and quality-of-life outcomes for children with disabilities (McDaniel Peters & Wood, 2017; Prieto et al., 2022). While child-focused outcomes are well documented, significantly less is known about how EAOT participation may influence caregivers and the broader family unit, as existing research largely prioritizes individual outcomes over family experiences (Peters et al., 2017; Tan & Simmonds, 2018; Trzmiel et al., 2019; Xiao et al., 2023). Emerging qualitative studies suggest potential family-level impacts including family engagement, reduced parental stress, and enhanced feelings of pride, empowerment, and connection (Kalmback et al., 2020; …

Promoting Participation And Self-Efficacy Among Youth With Disabilities In Community-Based Vocational Education, Allison Hollender Jan 2025

Promoting Participation And Self-Efficacy Among Youth With Disabilities In Community-Based Vocational Education, Allison Hollender

Doctoral Projects

Occupational therapy, with its focus on participation, contextual adaptation, and strength-based practice, is uniquely suited to support the growth and inclusion of youth in transition (Angell et al., 2018; Cahill et al., 2020; Carroll et al., 2025). Research indicates that transitional-aged youth (TAY) with disabilities, ages 14-24, are less likely to graduate from high school, pursue postsecondary education, or live independently (BLS, 2024; Cheng & Shaewitz, 2022; Cook et al., 2015). These disparities are compounded by occupational deprivation, or limited opportunities for meaningful participation, which can negatively impact long-term self-efficacy and belonging (Arbesman & Logsdon, 2011; Cahill et al., 2020). …

Journal Articles: Pathology and Microbiology

Acute radiation syndrome (ARS) occurs when hematopoietic or gastrointestinal cells are damaged by radiation exposure causing DNA damage to the bone marrow and gastrointestinal epithelial stem cell populations. In these highly proliferative cell types, DNA damage inhibits stem cell repopulation. In humans and animals, this inability to regenerate stem cells is lethal. Within this manuscript, several compounds, Amifostine, Captopril, Ciprofloxacin, PrC-210, 5-AED (5-androstene-3β,17β-diol), and 5-AET (5-androstene-3β,7β,17B-triol), are assessed for their ability to protect against ARS in an in vitro and/or in vivo setting. ARS was accomplished by irradiating mouse bone marrow cells or rat intestinal epithelial (IEC-6) cells in vitro …
