Fracture Performance Of Fdm Printed Pla And Petg: Role Of Infill Geometry And Layer Height, Abdulla Ahmed Aldhaheri
Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses
This Additive Manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized modern design and manufacturing by enabling layer-by-layer fabrication directly from 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models. This approach enhances material efficiency, reduces waste, and allows the production of complex geometries. Among various AM methods, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is one of the most widely used techniques. In FDM, thermoplastic filament is heated and extruded through a nozzle to build components layer by layer. Several process parameters significantly influence the structural integrity, mechanical properties, and overall performance of FDM-fabricated parts. Recent research has increasingly focused on understanding the fracture behavior of commonly used materials such as …

Sustainable High-Density Polyethylene Composites Reinforced With Olive Pomace: Production And Characterization, Recai Arslan, Azime Subaşi
Sustainable High-Density Polyethylene Composites Reinforced With Olive Pomace: Production And Characterization, Recai Arslan, Azime Subaşi
Journal of Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies
In this study, olive pomace (OP), an abundant agro-industrial by-product, was incorporated into a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix at loadings of 0–20 wt.% to develop sustainable polymer composites. The influence of OP loading on the physical, mechanical, structural, and thermal properties of the composites was systematically investigated. Increasing OP loading resulted in elevated moisture content and water absorption, attributed to the hydrophilic nature of the lignocellulosic filler. Composite density and Shore D hardness exhibited a progressive increase with OP loading. In contrast, tensile and impact properties remained statistically not significantly changed at 5 wt.% OP loading, while higher filler loadings …

Michigan Tech Publications
The Mazagón coast (Huelva, southwestern Spain) illustrates the strong imprint of anthropogenic interventions on shoreline dynamics. This study evaluates its evolution between 1946 and 2022 by digitizing historical shorelines from aerial photographs and quantifying changes through three complementary indicators: Net Shoreline Movement (NSM), End Point Rate (EPR), and Linear Regression Rate (LRR). Statistical analyses (ANOVA and Tukey’s test) were performed to assess differences between pre- and post-construction phases of the Juan Carlos I breakwater. The results indicate a prevailing erosive trend, with mean retreat rates of − 1.4 m/yr and localized shoreline losses exceeding 100 m. Prior to the breakwater, …
From Hot Dog Soup To Wine Pairing: Exploring Taste & Palate Development Through America's Latchkey Generation, Gabrielle Reagan
From Hot Dog Soup To Wine Pairing: Exploring Taste & Palate Development Through America's Latchkey Generation, Gabrielle Reagan
Theses - ALL
This thesis interrogates how tastes and palates develop across a lifespan through the lens of America’s latchkey generation. As an analytic, this generation—raised amid a rising availability of ultra processed foods, declining culinary skill transfer, and an uptick in both divorce rates and women in the workforce—is crucial for understanding the palate as a site where corporate capture and individual agency intersect. It asks: What broadens palate development, what limits it, and what conditions support or hinder its evolution over time? How might the reintroduction of culinary literacy broaden palate development and how do gender and pleasure play a role …

Despite the advancement in therapies, ovarian cancer treatment is challenging because of poor prognosis and high relapse associated with acquired resistance. Emerging targeted alpha particles, particularly actinium-225 (225Ac), for treating refractory cancers have opened avenues for improved therapeutic options. Here, we describe a successful example of folate receptor 1 (FOLR1)–targeted 225Ac alpha-particle therapy for treatment of ovarian cancer. Longitudinal positron emission tomography imaging demonstrated high tumor-specific uptake of αFOLR1 (anti-FOLR1 antibody) in SKOV3 xenografts. FOLR1-targeted 225Ac demonstrated high therapeutic efficacy, achieving marked tumor regression, 80% survival, and 40% complete tumor elimination. The therapy resulted in tumor-specific double-stranded DNA damage, and …

Analysis Of The Formation And Structure Of Protective Films In Sustainable Ionic Liquid Lubricants, Brendan Mahoney
Analysis Of The Formation And Structure Of Protective Films In Sustainable Ionic Liquid Lubricants, Brendan Mahoney
Theses
Friction losses and wear of sliding components account for nearly one quarter of global energy consumption. Developing new lubricants to reduce these losses is essential for a more cost-effective and sustainable future. The automotive industry offers the greatest economic potential for new tribological discoveries, as it affects billions of people around the world. A significant portion of the friction losses in automobiles are due to the reciprocating motion in the engine, which leads to metal-on-metal contact. Ionic liquids have emerged as novel lubricants and additives due to their ability to form protective surface layers on metals, reducing friction and wear. …

Unfriending The Kids: The Problematic Race To Childproof Social Media, Randolph A. Robinson Ii
Cleveland State Law Review
A growing number of states have recently enacted new laws with the goal of protecting young people from potential harm allegedly caused by social media use. These laws are diverse in their approaches but broadly seek to limit youth access to social media platforms by imposing age verification and parental consent requirements. These laws directly implicate the First Amendment rights of both young users who will no longer be able to access speech or speak on social media platforms as well as adult users who must now submit to age verification to access these quintessential forums for political discourse.

From Maps To Meadows: Ecologically Literate Zoning And The Regeneration Of Wildlife Habitats, Jonathan Rosenbloom
From Maps To Meadows: Ecologically Literate Zoning And The Regeneration Of Wildlife Habitats, Jonathan Rosenbloom
Cleveland State Law Review
For more than a century, zoning has shaped the American landscape, often at the expense of wildlife and ecosystems. Rooted in legal doctrines that treated animals as property and nature as a raw material, zoning codes have fragmented habitats, erased migration corridors, and accelerated biodiversity loss. At the same time, federal protections are narrowing, leaving critical gaps in environmental governance. This Article argues that local governments possess both the authority and the obligation to respond. By embedding ecological principles into zoning—through conservation districts, wildlife corridor protections, wetland buffers, pollinator protections, dark skies, wildlife fencing, habitat restoration, and others—municipalities can transform …
Investigation Of Inlet Turbulence Effects On Mixing Characteristics Of A Jet In Crossflow, Erin Jagger
Investigation Of Inlet Turbulence Effects On Mixing Characteristics Of A Jet In Crossflow, Erin Jagger
Masters Theses
Gas flaring is widely used in the oil and gas industry to dispose of excess waste gas, and improving flare efficiency is critical for reducing emissions. Flare performance depends strongly on turbulent mixing between the flare gas and surrounding crossflow. While previous studies have examined the effects of crossflow velocity and low turbulence levels, the combined effects of crossflow turbulence intensity and integral length scale on mixing remains insufficiently understood.
This study uses a non-reacting jet in crossflow (JICF) configuration to represent the mixing process between the flare and crossflow interaction. Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations …
Trustworthy Reinforcement Learning And Communication-Efficient Multi-Agent Systems, Rui Zuo
Trustworthy Reinforcement Learning And Communication-Efficient Multi-Agent Systems, Rui Zuo
Dissertations - ALL
The rapid proliferation of autonomous systems, such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) transitioning to large-scale Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, demands a paradigm shift toward reliable, transparent, and resilient autonomy. While Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) and Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) have demonstrated exceptional capabilities in complex decision-making and coordination, their real-world deployment in safety-critical domains is hindered by two fundamental challenges. First, the opaque, "black-box" nature of DRL models prevents human operators from understanding and trusting the agents' underlying logic. Second, as multi-agent operations scale, they become severely constrained by the stochastic link qualities and strict bandwidth limitations …
Atropisomer Mechanochemistry Of Diarylethene Mechanophores: A Study Of Structure-Mechanical Activity Relationships, Cijun Zhang
Atropisomer Mechanochemistry Of Diarylethene Mechanophores: A Study Of Structure-Mechanical Activity Relationships, Cijun Zhang
Dissertations - ALL
Stimuli-responsive organic structures are advanced, intelligent platforms that dynamically adjust their physical or chemical properties—such solubility, or color—in response to external stimuli including light, heat, pH, redox conditions, mechanical force, or magnetic fields. Among these structures, mechanophores represent an important class that is specifically responsive to mechanical force. Synthetic mechanophores can be rationally engineered to exhibit tunable mechanosensitivity as well as tailored chemical and physical properties. In this work, we designed and synthesized a type of atropisomeric mechanophores based on sterically congested diarylethene photoswitches, and systematically investigated their mechanical and photochemical properties. Chapter 1 Chapter 1 provides a general introduction …
Scaling Logical Reasoning On Modern Hpc Hardware, Yihao Sun
Scaling Logical Reasoning On Modern Hpc Hardware, Yihao Sun
Dissertations - ALL
Deductive logic reasoning has evolved from a theoretical symbolic artificial intelligence tool into a massive computational workload. Modern domains, ranging from static program analysis and binary reverse engineering to knowledge-graph reasoning, rely on Datalog, a logical query language, to express deeply recursive, declarative specifications. However, scaling logic reasoning to these industrial workload exposes two interlocking ceilings in traditional engines. Architecturally, the memory bandwidth and parallel throughput of single-node CPUs fall drastically short of the read- and write-heavy demands of semi-naive evaluation. Asymptotically, traditional query processing algorithms, such as binary join algorithms generate massive intermediate relations that exhaust device memory on …

Learning Under Information And Experience Constraints In Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning, Qinwei Huang
Learning Under Information And Experience Constraints In Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning, Qinwei Huang
Dissertations - ALL
Reinforcement learning is a powerful approach for training cooperative multi-agent systems. However, it is usually studied under idealized conditions. Standard formulations assume abundant experience, reliable communication, and cleanly observable state. Physical multi-agent systems rarely satisfy these assumptions, and instead operate under several kinds of scarcity. This dissertation studies reinforcement learning for cooperative multi-agent systems under two practical resource constraints. We show that effective learning in these settings depends not only on how much communication, computation, or experience is available, but also on how limited information and experience are represented, reused, and evaluated. Part I addresses information constraints in cooperative multi-agent …
Using Low-Frequency Vibrational Spectroscopy To Develop Analytical Profiles For Polymorphic Organic Molecular Crystals, Salvatore Zarrella
Using Low-Frequency Vibrational Spectroscopy To Develop Analytical Profiles For Polymorphic Organic Molecular Crystals, Salvatore Zarrella
Dissertations - ALL
Low-frequency vibrational spectroscopy provides a sensitive approach for characterizing polymorphism and intermolecular dynamics in organic molecular crystals. Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) and low-frequency Raman spectroscopy probe collective lattice vibrations arising from weak intermolecular interactions, offering direct insight into crystal packing, phase stability, and structural organization that is often inaccessible to conventional diffraction and mid-infrared techniques. To interpret these modes, experimental measurements are combined with periodic solid-state density functional theory (ss-DFT), which enables vibrational assignments to specific intermolecular motions, and crystal structure prediction (CSP), which maps accessible polymorphic energy landscapes. Together, these methods form a unified experimental–computational framework for understanding molecular …
Bio-Inspired Visual Intelligence: Improving Efficiency And Robustness Through Foveal-Peripheral Sampling And Learned Saccades, Jiayang Liu
Dissertations - ALL
Deep neural networks have achieved state-of-the-art performance across a wide range of computer vision tasks, yet their deployment in real-world and safety-critical domains remains limited by two major challenges: vulnerability to adversarial perturbations and high computational cost. While adversarial training can improve robustness under certain threat models, it is computationally expensive and often generalizes poorly to black-box or transferable attacks. At the same time, conventional vision pipelines process uniformly sampled high-resolution images, introducing substantial data redundancy, latency, and energy overhead. In contrast, the human visual system achieves efficient and robust perception through space-variant foveal-peripheral sampling, attention-guided saccadic eye movements, and …

Agentic Ai-Enabled Physics-Informed Machine Learning Framework For Intelligent Building Modeling, Control, And Automation, Zixin Jiang
Dissertations - ALL
Buildings account for a significant share of global energy consumption, and meeting the 2050 net-zero decarbonization targets requires retrofitting approximately 10,000 buildings per day in the United States alone. However, current human-centered workflows for building modeling, simulation, control, and operation remain too slow and labor-intensive to support deployment at this scale. This dissertation proposes an integrated two-pillar framework consisting of a physics-informed machine learning framework for integrated building modeling, control, and simulation, and a multi-agent agentic AI framework for automating building energy engineering workflows built on top of that foundation. The first pillar introduces a Physics-Informed Modularized Neural Network (PI-ModNN) …

The management of hazardous industrial waste has emerged as a significant global challenge due to rapid technological advancements. Industrial hazardous waste management systems must be designed not only to be cost-effective but also to minimize environmental risks. This study proposes a mixed-integer programming model for the location-routing of industrial hazardous waste that incorporates both primary and secondary environmental risks, along with suitable response actions. Furthermore, a scenario-based robust optimization model is developed to address uncertainties in the quantities of industrial hazardous waste. A case study is conducted to demonstrate the applicability and comparative performance of the nominal and robust models. …

Wearable Sensor Technology And Biomechanical Gait Analysis In Post-Stroke Rehabilitation: A Review With Implications For The Saudi Healthcare System, Abdullah H. Alzahrani
Neurosciences
Stroke remains a major cause of disability worldwide, with gait impairment affecting up to 80% of survivors and contributing to long-term dependence, fall risk, and reduced quality of life. In Saudi Arabia, stroke incidence is rising, with a significant burden on younger populations and disparities in access to post-stroke rehabilitation services. Conventional gait analysis tools rely on expensive, specialized laboratory equipment, which limits their availability in low-resource and rural settings. Recent advances in wearable sensor technologies, including inertial measurement units, pressure insoles, and electromyography systems, offer portable, scalable, and cost-efficient options for assessing gait in real-world environments. These systems can …

Consider a queueing system with a single server, where customer arrivals follow a Markovian arrival process and service times follow a phase-type distribution. The main server has the capability to recruit an additional server when the number of customers in the system exceeds a certain threshold, denoted as L. Both servers provide normal service to customers, and optional service is provided upon request. The main server takes multiple vacations, with the durations following an exponential distribution with rate parameter η, until there is at least one customer in the system. This system can be represented as a Markov chain process, …

(R2142) Queueing System With Batched Services, Server-Controlled Re-Service, Set-Up Time And Multiple Vacation, S. Karpagam, N. Aarthy, B. Somasundaram
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
To analyze a bulk queueing system with server-controlled admission for reservice, low-batch service, multiple vacation and set-up time. The study explores how the server dynamically adjusts between low-batch and bulk services based on the queue size. After completing a bulk service, the departing batch may request reservice with a certain probability. However, accepting the request is not mandatory, and the server admits it with some probability. Whenever the queue becomes empty, whether after reservicing, completing service with no reservice request, or ending the low-batch service, the server enters a random-length vacation. This paper introduces and elucidates the concepts of homomorphism and anti-homomorphism for interval-valued neutrosophic fuzzy ideals of near-rings. Here we proved if an interval valued neutrosophic fuzzy left ideals of R′ then its inverse image is interval valued neutrosophic fuzzy left ideals of R and converse part is true if the mapping is onto homomorphism. Additionally, we establish the notion of the direct product of n-interval-valued neutrosophic fuzzy ideals within near-rings is also a interval-valued neutrosophic fuzzy ideals of near-rings. To illustrate these concepts, we provide an example showcasing the direct product of interval-valued neutrosophic fuzzy ideals of near-rings.
