Avadclip: Audio-Visual Collaboration For Robust Video Anomaly Detection, Peng Wu, Wanshun Su, Guansong Pang, Yujia Sun, Qingsen Yan, Peng Wang, Yanning Zhang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

With the increasing adoption of video anomaly detection in intelligent surveillance domains, conventional visual-only detection approaches often struggle with information insufficiency and high false-positive rates in complex environments. To address these limitations, we present a novel weakly supervised framework that leverages audio-visual collaboration for robust video anomaly detection. Capitalizing on the exceptional cross-modal representation learning capabilities of Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) across visual, audio, and textual domains, our framework introduces two major innovations: an efficient audio-visual fusion that enables adaptive cross-modal integration through lightweight parametric adaptation while maintaining the frozen CLIP backbone, and a novel audio-visual prompt that dynamically enhances …

Robust Graph Learning On The Web: Challenges, Methods, And Applications, Ao Xiang, Yang Liu, Guansong Pang, Yuanhao Ding, Hezhe Qiao, Dawei Cheng, Qing He

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Graph learning is transforming web intelligence, powering applications from recommender systems to anomaly detection. However, most existing approaches implicitly assume ideal conditions where training and testing data are accurate, complete, and free from manipulation. In reality, web environments rarely exhibit such stability. Dynamic user behavior, incomplete or outdated content, adversarial interference, and sudden distribution shifts can all erode the reliability of even state-of-the-art models, leading to biased or unsafe outcomes. This tutorial provides a comprehensive survey of emerging strategies for robust graph learning on the web. We first present a structured taxonomy of the principal robustness threats specific to web …

Verbalizing Lightgcn: Direct Learning Of Textual Representations From User-Item Interaction Graph Via Llms, Manh-Khanh Ngo Huu, Hady Wirawan Lauw

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In this work, we propose VerbaLightGCN, a novel LLM-based recommendation framework that integrates the semantic understanding of LLMs with user-item interaction modeling. Traditional collaborative filtering (CF) models typically embed user and item IDs into a latent space to capture interaction signals. However, pretrained LLMs cannot natively interpret these learned embeddings. To bridge this gap, VerbaLightGCN adopts a CF-as-text paradigm, in which collaborative signals are encoded in textual form and directly learned from the user–item interaction graph, and are then combined with semantic information to construct user and item profiles that function as latent embeddings. Inspired by LightGCN, our method retains …

Divide-And-Conquer: Generating Ui Code From Screenshots, Yuxuan Wan, Chaozheng Wang, Yi Dong, Wenxuan Wang, Shuqing Li, Yintong Huo, Michael R. Lyu

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Websites are critical in today’s digital world, with over 1.11 billion currently active and approximately 252,000 new sites launched daily. Converting website layout design into functional UI code is a time-consuming yet indispensable step of website development. Manual methods of converting visual designs into functional code present significant challenges, especially for non-experts. To explore automatic design-to-code solutions, we first conduct a motivating study on GPT-4o and identify three types of issues in generating UI code: element omission, element distortion, and element misarrangement. We further reveal that a focus on smaller visual segments can help multimodal large language models (MLLMs) mitigate …

Block Kinematics, Interseismic Coupling And Fault Slip Rates In The Aegean Region From Gps And Earthquake Slip Vector Data: 2. Hellenic Subduction System, Konstantinos Chousianitis, Volkan Özbey, Sotiris Sboras, Robert Mccaffrey, Semih Ergintav

Geology Faculty Publications and Presentations

The Hellenic subduction system is the primary locus of Nubia‐Eurasia convergence, yet thedistribution of strain accumulation along it is still debated. Here, we invert 832 geodetic velocities and 146earthquake slip vectors to assess the spatial variability of interseismic locking and provide new constraints onthe rate of slip deficit accumulation. We find that the subduction interface beneath southwestern Peloponneseand across the area from offshore south Peloponnese to offshore southwest of western Crete hosts three patchesof low to moderate locking (0%–40%) at 10–50 km depth whose slip rate deficits account for ∼15–30% of thetotal plate convergence. The offshore weakly locked patches show …

Trial By Fire: Disaster Justice And Lessons Learned, Clifford Villa Jul 2026

Trial By Fire: Disaster Justice And Lessons Learned, Clifford Villa

Faculty Scholarship

Disaster Justice reflects the intersection of environmental justice and disaster law. The study of disaster justice is becoming increasingly essential as disasters become more frequent and devastating in the face of accelerating climate change. Disaster law is marked by statutes such as the federal Stafford Act and by theory such as the “disaster cycle” of readiness, response, and recovery. Environmental justice recognizes that the distribution of harms such as bad air or water quality may be distributed inequitably among groups such as low-income populations or racial minorities. In similar fashion, the adverse impacts of disasters may also be distributed inequitably …

Publications and Research

This paper offers a high-level account of the Center for Holistic Integration’s (CHI) meta-project ecosystem as visualized in the included system map. CHI provides an organizational structure framed around persistent meta-projects that support and extend individual initiatives across curriculum, scholarly and applied research, infrastructure, artistic production, AI development, cultural inquiry, and external partnerships. Rather than presenting the map as a static inventory of projects, the paper examines how its core domains function as living systems through which knowledge, tools, documentation, participants, and collaborations can accumulate over time. It also considers how CHI-mediated connectivity, institutional integration, and external funding allow the …

Design And Evaluation Of A Distributed Ticket Booking System Using Cqrs And Hybrid Consistency Models, Tai Nguyen Vo, Sangwhan Cha Jul 2026

Design And Evaluation Of A Distributed Ticket Booking System Using Cqrs And Hybrid Consistency Models, Tai Nguyen Vo, Sangwhan Cha

Harrisburg University Other Works

This paper presents the design and evaluation of a Distributed Ticket Booking System (DTBS) built to handle extreme concurrency in high-traffic digital environments. Motivated by real-world failures such as the 2022 Taylor Swift Eras Tour sale—where 14 million simultaneous requests overwhelmed Ticketmaster—the system addresses the fundamental conflict between strong consistency and high availability under massive demand. The proposed solution adopts the Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) pattern to decouple read and write operations, and applies a hybrid consistency model grounded in the CAP theorem: a CP-oriented booking subsystem with Redis-based distributed locking, and an AP-oriented search subsystem using Elasticsearch for …

Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy Enhances Bidirectional Blood-Brain Barrier Permeability In Glioblastoma, Ryan T Cleary, Yiwei Fu, David Giles, Jinyun Yuan, Diogo P Moniz Garcia, Danny Palmer, Rowland H Han, Timothy Woodiwiss, Alicia B Yang, Dimitrios Mathios, Hong Chen, Albert H Kim

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive treatment for glioblastoma that increases blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability. However, the mechanisms and spatiotemporal features of this effect remain unclear. It is also unknown whether LITT promotes release of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA).

METHODS: Using our previously developed LITT mouse model, we employed single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) to investigate gene expression changes in endothelial cells following LITT in the naive mouse brain. Brains were also harvested at multiple time points to assess LITT effects on tight junction (TJ) integrity and transcytosis via immunofluorescence and transmission electron microscopy. Human glioblastoma tissues were …

Effect Of Anisotropic Hydraulic Conductivity On Groundwater Seepage Into A Rectangular Tunnel In Submerged Sand, Deki Yangzom Ghaley, Sanjay Kumar Shukla Jul 2026

Effect Of Anisotropic Hydraulic Conductivity On Groundwater Seepage Into A Rectangular Tunnel In Submerged Sand, Deki Yangzom Ghaley, Sanjay Kumar Shukla

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Managing groundwater seepage around tunnels is critical to tunnel design, particularly when the tunnel is constructed below the water table. Accurate seepage flow patterns and water inflow prediction under ordinary and critical conditions are imperative to mitigate potential tunnel construction and service disasters. In the past, an in-depth study on the anisotropic hydraulic conductivity of the soil mass that may affect the seepage condition has not been carried out. In this work, this aspect has been investigated numerically for a rectangular tunnel submerged within a homogeneous sand mass, considering the anisotropic hydraulic conductivity ratio (kz / kx, kz = vertical …

Artificial Intelligence Based Predictive Simulation And Decision-Support Framework For Full Scale Wastewater Treatment Systems, Muhammad Hassnain, Cameron Veal, Sarada M.W. Lee, Muhammad Rizwan Azhar

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Full scale wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) generate extensive sensor and laboratory datasets that remain challenging to translate into real-time operational insight, while increasing hydraulic variability, energy constraints, tightening effluent regulations, and events such as sensor faults, hydraulic shocks, and effluent-quality excursions require predictive decision-support tools beyond conventional mechanistic modelling. This study presents a full-scale, industry-deployed artificial intelligence (AI) framework integrating machine learning (ML), simulation, and operational boundary definition across a nitrogen-removal WWTP in Australia. Up to nine years of high-frequency online instrumentation data (≤419,000 records per target; 5–30 min resolution) and ~3000 laboratory samples were used to train and evaluate …

Optimal Co2 Storage Interval In Heterogeneous Tight Formation: Implications For Long-Term Carbon Sequestration, Yujie Yuan, Yuxin Cao, Emad A. Al-Khdheeawi, Maxim Lebedev, Zhenjiang You, Reza Rezaee, Stefan Iglauer, Lai Chang Zhang, Zhuo Feng

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The efficiency of CO2 geo-sequestration relies heavily on the storage capacity and sealing integrity of the heterogeneous strata. Tight formations offer substantial advantages for long-term CO2 geological storage, however, the stratigraphic variability and lithological heterogeneity introduce substantial uncertainty in real-world engineering applications. Particularly, for tight formations with pronounced heterogeneous lithologies, traditional methods oversimplify their impact on CO2 geo-sequestration. To address this challenge and identify the most effective intervals for CO2 geo-sequestration, we investigated the middle Permian Lucaogou Formation (P2l) in the Jimusar Sag, Junggar Basin, Northwest China, a region known for its strong lithological heterogeneity. By integrating multi-scale analytical techniques, …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Sliding mode control (SMC) has emerged as a robust and adaptive strategy for grid-tied inverters. It has unique attributes which make it an appropriate control choice under increasingly complex power systems. However, there are a limited number of review articles which comprehensively explore the true potential of SMC for grid-tied inverter applications. This systematic review has been structured to explore SMC techniques with respect to certain challenges, i.e., stability challenges, unbalanced conditions, low inertia scenarios, and harmonics distortion. The classification of various SMC techniques is presented with respect to their control law and sliding surfaces design. The comparative analysis indicates …

System For Privacy-Preserving Cryptographic Auditing Using Zero-Knowledge Proofs, N/A Jun 2026

System For Privacy-Preserving Cryptographic Auditing Using Zero-Knowledge Proofs, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

Systems for enterprise security may rely on high (fidelity) logging, which can involve collecting and storing large volumes of sensitive event metadata, creating security and privacy liabilities. A cryptographic auditing framework may be utilized where, instead of storing raw event data, a system can generate and store a succinct cryptographic proof, such as a zero-knowledge proof. This proof can serve as a mathematical attestation that a permitted action occurred in compliance with a governing policy, potentially without revealing the specific details of the user or the action. This approach can be used to generate a tamper-evident, privacy-preserving, and space-efficient audit …

Autonomous Stress Testing In A Network Digital Twin For Predictive Remediation, Mohit Chandra, Amrita Mukherjee Jun 2026

Autonomous Stress Testing In A Network Digital Twin For Predictive Remediation, Mohit Chandra, Amrita Mukherjee

Defensive Publications Series

The management of complex telecommunications networks can be challenged by difficulties in predicting the impact of component failures and the risks of testing automations on a live system. Systems and methods are described that can address these challenges by creating and maintaining a graph-based digital representation, such as a digital twin, of an operational network that can be synchronized with real-time data. Within this digital twin, for example, an autonomous agent can perform synthetic fault injections to simulate a wide range of potential failures and stressors. The system can analyze the effects of these simulated faults to predict potential service-level …

Speculative Data Prefetching Based On Predicted Agent Intent In Machine Learning Systems, Anonymous Jun 2026

Speculative Data Prefetching Based On Predicted Agent Intent In Machine Learning Systems, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are described for speculative data prefetching in systems in which an LLM agent dynamically invokes retrieval backends whose candidates require embedding lookups from SSD-backed embedding tables. A user memory state with tiered memory data is obtained and converted into features. An intent prediction model produces, for each backend, a probability that the agent will invoke the backend. A prefetch controller computes a backend-specific prefetch decision using a value metric that combines probability, expected embedding lookups, SSD latency, and prefetch cost, and selects backends subject to a bandwidth budget based on SSD throughput and a Phase 1 time window. Speculative …

Coordinated Load-Aware Contention Domain Assignment, Peiman Amini, Navid Reyhanian, Ardalan Alizadeh, Matt Silverman

Defensive Publications Series

A system is proposed herein through which a set of techniques can be utilized to create a coordinated, latency-aware allocation policy for Dynamic Sub-band Operation (DSO).  DSO can be used to create multiple parallel contention domains.  For example, an access point (AP) can use fine-grained per-sub-band measurements, including overlapping basic service set (OBSS) frame ratio, jitter variance, airtime fairness, clear channel assessment (CCA), and retry metrics, to compute a condition score per sub-band. The AP can also use neighbor coordination pressure to prevent overlapping basic service sets (BSSs) from converging on the same sub-band and apply traffic-class-aware admission limits with …

Multi-Lane Concurrent Specification Evolution System With Configurable Ai Governance For Distributed Engineering Organizations, Anonymous Jun 2026

Multi-Lane Concurrent Specification Evolution System With Configurable Ai Governance For Distributed Engineering Organizations, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

A multi-lane concurrent specification evolution system maintains a hierarchical specification across three lanes: isolated team experimentation branches, an integration lane, and a low-velocity consensus lane. Per-domain governance policies define permission levels for AI autonomy and human involvement, including human-only, human-review, AI-propose with an objection window, and AI-auto subject to a confidence threshold. An AI agent proposes and/or executes merges from team branches to the integration lane using conflict detection, contract compatibility checking, invariant validation, and cross-reference impact analysis for inter-domain accept/produce contracts, and notifies affected owners. When stabilization criteria are met, the integrated state is promoted to a versioned baseline …

Hierarchical Multi-Level Knowledge Graph With Compositional Contracts For Ai Agent Navigation Of Distributed Software Systems, Anonymous Jun 2026

Hierarchical Multi-Level Knowledge Graph With Compositional Contracts For Ai Agent Navigation Of Distributed Software Systems, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods store a hierarchical knowledge graph for navigating and changing distributed software systems. A product layer defines product identity, system bindings, and an end-to-end dataflow across system domains. A system knowledge graph includes a four-level specification hierarchy: domain specifications with intent phrases and ownership metadata; feature specifications with typed accepts/produces compositional contracts; behavior specifications with given/when/then invariants; and technical specifications with implementation anchors and referenced skills. An agent follows a six-phase change protocol: understand a request via semantic discovery over intent phrases, plan by traversing bindings and dataflow to identify impacted specs and code locations for approval, execute …

Persistent Hierarchical Context System With Cloud-Synchronized Memory For Ai Agent Workspace Awareness, Anonymous Jun 2026

Persistent Hierarchical Context System With Cloud-Synchronized Memory For Ai Agent Workspace Awareness, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods provide persistent, hierarchical, project-aware context for an AI agent using a dual-use file hierarchy. A cloud-synchronized workspace contains embedded, machine-parseable context files at multiple directory levels. When the agent operates with respect to a directory, a context loader automatically loads a chain of context files from that directory and parent directories to form layered context including user identity, preferences, and project-specific information. Because the context resides as files within the cloud-synchronized workspace, the context persists across sessions and follows the user across devices. An ingestion mechanism accepts arbitrary inputs such as links or notes, analyzes content to …
