When asked to draw a scientist, children typically draw a gender stereotypical male representation; however, research has not yet assessed these representations in terms of scientist stereotypical skin tone. The current study examined children's (N = 69, 66.7% female, Mage = 7.60, SD = 2.13) scientist perceptions by analyzing both the gender and skin tone of their scientist drawings as well as stereotypical features represented (lab coats, scientific instruments, etc.). This study also examined how these perceptions as reflected in the drawings were related to children's explicit gender stereotypes and their science growth mindset. Boys were less likely …

The role of CD4+ T cells in the induction of protective CD8+ T cells by mRNA lipid nanoparticle (LNP) vaccines is unknown. We used B6 or Tlr9−/− mice depleted or not of CD4+ T cells and LNP vaccines loaded with mRNAs encoding the ectromelia virus (ECTV) MHC class I H-2 Kb-restricted immunodominant CD8+ T cell epitope TSYKFESV (TSYKFESV mRNA-LNPs) or the ECTV EVM158 protein, which contains TSYKFESV (EVM-158 mRNA-LNPs). Following prime and boost with 10 μg of either vaccine, Kb-TSYKFESV-specific CD8+ T cells fully protected male and female mice from …

Importin β-superfamily nuclear import receptors (NIRs) mitigate mislocalization and aggregation of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), like FUS and TDP-43, which are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. NIRs potently disaggregate RBPs by recognizing their nuclear localization signal (NLS). However, disease-causing mutations in NLS compromise NIR binding and activity. Here, we define features that characterize the anti-aggregation activity of NIR and NLS. We find that high binding affinity between NIR and NLS, and optimal NLS location relative to the aggregating domain plays a role in determining NIR disaggregation activity. A designed FUS chimera (FUSIBB), carrying the importin β binding (IBB) domain, is …

Elium-based thermoplastic composites are a key material for future use in the marine, wind energy, and automotive industries because of their recyclability and ease of manufacture. To optimize the processing of the Elium composites to yield optimal structural properties, computational process modeling can be used to relate processing parameters to residual stresses and material durability. The key ingredient for reliable and accurate process modeling is the evolution of physical, thermal, and mechanical properties during polymerization. The objective of this study is to use molecular dynamics to predict the mass density, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, glass transition …

Military burn pits, used for waste disposal in combat zones, involve the open-air burning of waste materials, including plastics, metals, chemicals, and medical waste. The pits release a complex mixture of occupational toxic substances, including particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metals, dioxins, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Air pollution significantly impacts brain health through mechanisms involving neuroinflammation. Pollutants penetrate the respiratory system, enter the bloodstream, and cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB), triggering inflammatory responses in the central nervous system (CNS). Chronic environmental exposures result in sustained inflammation, oxidative stress, and neuronal damage, contributing to neurodegenerative diseases and …

Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) recipients are susceptible to viral infections. We conducted a phase 2 trial evaluating the safety and rate of clinically significant infections (CSIs; viremia requiring treatment or end-organ disease) after infusion of posoleucel, a partially HLA-matched, allogeneic, off-the-shelf, multivirus-specific T-cell investigational product for preventing CSIs with adenovirus, BK virus, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, human herpesvirus-6, or JC virus. This open-label trial enrolled allo-HCT recipients at high risk based on receiving grafts from umbilical cord blood, haploidentical, mismatched, or matched unrelated donors; post-HCT lymphocytes of <180/mm3; or use of T-cell depletion. Posoleucel dosing was initiated within 15 to 49 days of allo-HCT and subsequently every 14 days for up to 7 doses. The primary end point was the number of CSIs due to the 6 target viruses by week 14. Of the 26 patients enrolled, only 3 (12%) had a CSI by week 14, each with a single target virus. In vivo expansion of functional virus-specific T cells detected via interferon-γ enzyme-linked immunosorbent spot assay was associated with viral control. Persistence of posoleucel-derived T-cell clones for up to 14 weeks after the last infusion was confirmed by T-cell-receptor deep sequencing. Five patients (19%) had acute graft-versus-host disease grade 2 to 4. No patient experienced cytokine release syndrome. All 6 deaths were due to relapse or disease progression. allo-HCT recipients at high risk who received posoleucel had low rates of CSIs from 6 targeted viruses. Repeat posoleucel dosing was generally safe and well tolerated and associated with functional immune reconstitution. This trial was registered at www.ClinicalTrials.gov as #NCT04693637.

Members of the leucine rich repeat (LRR) and PDZ domain (LAP) protein family are essential for animal development and histogenesis. Densin-180, encoded by LRRC7, is the only LAP protein selectively expressed in neurons. Densin-180 is a postsynaptic scaffold at glutamatergic synapses, linking cytoskeletal elements with signalling proteins such as the α-subunit of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II. We have previously observed an association between high impact variants in LRRC7 and Intellectual Disability; also three individual cases with variants in LRRC7 had been described. We identify here 33 individuals (one of them previously described) with a dominant neurodevelopmental disorder due …

Microfluidic systems combine multiple processing steps and components to perform complex assays in an autonomous fashion. To enable the integration of several bio-analytical processing steps into a single system, valving is used as a component that directs fluids and controls introduction of sample and reagents. While elastomer polydimethylsiloxane has been the material of choice for valving, it does not scale well to accommodate disposable integrated systems where inexpensive and fast production is needed. As an alternative to polydimethylsiloxane, we introduce a membrane made of thermoplastic elastomeric cyclic olefin copolymer (eCOC), that displays unique attributes for the fabrication of reliable valving. …

Community College Students’ Perceptions Of Hybrid Class Elements That Affect Their Academic Achievement, Jennifer Lynn Horvath
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite research and advances in hybrid learning in the field of education, the gap lies in the lack of research focusing on community college students' perceptions of which elements of hybrid classes significantly impact their academic achievement. This problem, often leading to lower completion rates and higher attrition, was particularly important to community colleges supporting rural populations. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to determine community college students’ perceptions of hybrid class elements that affected their academic achievement. Cognitive load theory served as the foundation for a conceptual framework, enabling the interpretation of student perceptions as manifestations of …

Cubic Spherical Neutrosophic Sets For Advanced Decision-Making, S Gomathi, M. Karpagadevi, S. Krishnaprakash, A. Revathy, Said Broumi
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
In the context of aggregation operators and multiple criteria decision-making, this article presents the idea of cubic spherical neutrosophic sets. The notion of neutrosophic informations are transform into a geometric sphere by determining its center and radius. This advanced geometrical representation extends traditional neutrosophic informations. This study defines and discusses weighted additive and weighted geometric aggregation operators tailored to cubic spherical neutrosophic sets that are vital for handling complex and uncertain information. Practical example, such as evaluating fertilizer brands for coconut farming, illustrate their application in decision-making contexts. By integrating cubic spherical neutrosophic sets into multiple criteria decision-making frameworks, decision …

A Neutrosophic Approach For Breast Mass Detection In Digital Mammogram Images, Sofia Jennifer J, Kalaivani C
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer that affect women and yet there is no substantive cure. On early diagnosis of breast lesions with this size using mammogram would help the affected tumor patients have a good survival rate. Detecting cancer cells is a challenging task and hence we propose a single valued neutrosophic approach for segmenting breast tumor lesions in mammogram images. In this neutrosophic approach, the intensity values are represented as truth, indeterminacy and falsity membership in where the indeterminacy are noise, and the breast regions are the true and falsity values. The computations of these …

This study examines the relationships of reading strategies among different English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs. Ninety-seven students in four ESP programs in Ecuador were surveyed regarding their reading strategies. The results found that there were not significant differences among the four strategies. These findings were dis-cussed regarding whether differences in reading strategies could potentially influence teaching effectiveness, learning outcomes, and English language applications. The survey was administered to a random sample ob-tained from four Ecuadorian universities for 97 ESP students. For the survey, we applied an Indeterminate Likert Scale. Unlike the classic Likert Scale, the indeterminate variant asks the …

On Neutrosophic Normed Spaces Of I-Convergence Diferencesequences Defned By Modulus Function, Vakeel A. Khan, Mohammad Arshad
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
In this paper, we introduce the neutrosophic I-convergent difference sequence spaces I(Y) (Δ)(f) and I0(Y) (Δ) (f) defined by modulus function. Also, we define an open ball B(x, ϵ, γ)(f) in neutrosophic norm space defined by modulus function. Furthermore, We construct new topological spaces and look into various topological aspects in neutrosophic I-convergent difference sequence spaces I(Y) (Δ)(f) and I0(Y) (Δ) (f) defined by modulus function

Fermatean Fuzzy Α-Homeomorphism In Fermatean Fuzzy Topological Spaces, Revathy Aruchsamy, Inthumathi Velusamy
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
A relatively new development in fuzzy set theory, Fermatean fuzzy sets (FFSs) were developed for working with higher-level, uncertain data. They provide an even more robust structure for characterizing degree of membership and degree of non-membership, extending on the notions of Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) and Intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs). There are multiple fields of mathematics and applications that depend extensively on topological generalization of open sets. Topological spaces can be described and analyzed with the aid of homeomorphisms, which provide an empirical way to identify whether two spaces are identical in a topological sense with respect to their essential …

The Periodicity Of Square Fuzzy Neutrosophic Soft Matricesbased On Minimal Strong Components, Rameshware K, Kavitha M, Murugadass P
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
In this paper Minimal Strong Component (MSC) of a Fuzzy Neutrosophic Soft Matrix (FNSM) is suggested. By employing the connection of periodicity behaviours of FNSM with its cut matrices, the periodicity of power sequence of FNSMis described. Especially the concepts of MSC is given and the periodicity of a FNSM by its (Theorem-4.10) on the basis of the above results, the greatest value max P li=n = [li] of the periodicity of all SFNSM for a given positive integer n is obtained. So in a case we have clearly resolved the problem of the greatest value of all periodicity FNSM …

Aczel-Alsina Power Average Aggregation Operators Of Singlevalued Neutrosophic Under Confdence Levels And Theirapplication In Multiple Attribute Decision Making, S Bharathi, S Mohanaselvi
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
In decision making scenarios, dealing with imprecise information through extensions of fuzzy sets is crucial. Among these extensions, single valued neutrosophic set (SVNS) are especially effective at managing and interpreting such imprecise data. In the current study, decision makers confidence levels, derived from their familiarity with the assessed objects, are combined with the primary data within a neutrosophic framework. This paper focuses on developing innovative confidence single valued neutrosophic (SVN) aggregation operators (AO) that utilize the recently developed Aczel-Alsina (AA) operational laws and power AO (PAO) to capture the interrelationships among aggregated single valued neutrosophic numbers (SVNN). Specifically, it introduces …

Improved Method Of Interval Valued Neutrosophic Matrix Composition And Its Application In Medical Diagnosis, S. Sathiya, A. Puspalatha
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Neutrosophic sets are an important branch of topology that addresses issues with inconsistent, indeterminate, and uncertain situations in everyday life. Interval valued neutrosophic sets, known as subclasses of neutrosophic sets, have been specifically designed to address problems with a set of numbers in the real unit of interval rather than just a single number. Interval valued neutrosophic(IVN) matrix plays an influential role in decision making problems with indeterminant and inconsistent information. The objective of the paper is to discuss the concepts and operations of IVN matrix theory and propose a newly concept of an improved method of IVN matrix composition …
