Jurnal Civics: Media Kajian Kewarganegaraan
Multicultural education is a critical issue in increasingly heterogeneous modern societies. Multicultural values must be instilled early to build understanding, appreciation, and positive attitudes towards cultural diversity. One effective approach is to explore local wisdom within communities. This qualitative case study examines the multicultural values embedded in the Nguras Enceh tradition at the Mataram Kings' Cemetery Complex in Imogiri, representing a unique form of local wisdom in Yogyakarta. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary studies during the Nguras Enceh tradition. From the perspective of citizenship education, the values of togetherness, cooperation, tolerance, and respect for diversity …

The development of electronic media may increase screen time (ST) duration, cause students to develop sedentary habits, and decrease their physical activity (PA). Lately, this has been thought to be the cause of the problem of low physical fitness (PF) among students. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between screen time, physical activity, and students' physical fitness. The design of this study was correlational, with a total of 88 subjects in grades 4 and 5 at Primary Laboratoy School (Labschool) Unesa 1. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. Nusantara students' physical fitness test (TKPN) was employed to assessed …

The AWE AMTM is a wide field-of-view (WFOV) infrared imaging radiometer designed for use in measuring the P1(2) and P1(4) emission lines of the earths OH layer. From these measurements, the atmospheric temperature is determined and finally images of gravity waves will be produced as the AWE field of view transverses the OH layer. Designed, built, and characterized by Utah State University (USU) and its Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL), the sensor has been externally mounted to the International Space Station (ISS) looking nadir. Images will be collected and analyzed for a minimum of two years. The …

Design Of An Above Pavement Wireless Sensor Node (Apwsn) For Real-Time Roadway Monitoring Using Piezoelectric Energy-Harvesting, Jochy Jonathan Perez
Theses and Dissertations
The evolution of Smart Highway and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies offers new opportunities to improve the safety and efficiency of vehicular traffic on roads. This research effort describes the development of a wireless pavement sensor that provides a novel method to detect key pavement parameters while incorporating low-power energy harvesting that leverages the kinetic energy generated by vehicular traffic. The Above Pavement Wireless Sensor Node (APWSN) is the embodiment of the approach. APWSN can facilitate the strategic deployment of sensors on a wide variety of roads to enable real-time data collection to support decision-making processes for road infrastructure maintenance …

Chemistry and Biochemistry
Background
Polymorphisms are common in nature, but they are rarely shared among closely related species. Polymorphisms could originate through convergence, ancestral polymorphism, or introgression. Although shared neutral genomic variation across species is commonplace, few examples of shared functional traits exist. The blue-orange petal color polymorphisms in two closely related species, Lysimachia monelli and L. arvensis were investigated with UV-vis reflectance spectra, flavonoid biochemistry, and transcriptome comparisons followed by climate niche analysis.
Results
Similar color morphs between species have nearly identical reflectance spectra, flavonoid biochemistry, and ABP gene expression patterns. Transcriptome comparisons reveal two orange-specific genes directly involved in both blue-orange …

Faculty Research 2024
The International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) systematically produces and phenotypes mouse lines with presumptive null mutations to provide insight into gene function. The IMPC now uses the programmable RNA-guided nuclease Cas9 for its increased capacity and flexibility to efficiently generate null alleles in the C57BL/6N strain. In addition to being a valuable novel and accessible research resource, the production of 3313 knockout mouse lines using comparable protocols provides a rich dataset to analyze experimental and biological variables affecting in vivo gene engineering with Cas9. Mouse line production has two critical steps - generation of founders with the desired allele and …

INTRODUCTION: Therapeutic nutrition plays an imperative role during a patient's hospital course. There is a tremendous body of literature that emphasizes the systematic delivery of information regarding hospital nutrition diets. A major component of delivering healthcare information is the principle of providing quality healthcare information, but this has not yet been investigated on hospital nutrition diets. This study aimed to evaluate the comprehension and readability of patient education materials regarding therapeutic hospital diets.
METHODOLOGY: The methodology employed the use of publicly available questions regarding hospital nutrition diets and categorized them per Rothwell's Classification of Questions. Additionally, the questions were extracted …

Silica and silicate scale deposition in the production systems resulted in reduced production rates and equipment damages. Chemical scale inhibition using squeeze method is advantageous for petroleum reservoir conditions. This paper aims to assess the adsorption and squeeze performance of developed scale inhibitors that consist of polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers and pteroyl-L-glutamic acid (PGLU). Commercial inhibitor, diethylenetriamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid), also known as DETPMP, was also used to benchmark the laboratory findings. Static adsorption test and core flooding were performed to investigate the adsorption characteristics and retention of the inhibitors in Berea sandstone cores. Simulation was also conducted to estimate the …

The process of improving the strength of granular soil by utilising microorganisms is known as the biocementation process. This method involves the precipitation of calcium carbonate into the soil matrix structure through microbial calcite precipitation, resulting in the cementation of soil particles and subsequent improvement in strength and reduced permeability. This study investigated the potential of using Sporosarcina pasteurii, a microorganism strain with urease activity, to stabilise residual soil through urea hydrolysis. The cementation reagents used consisted of urea and calcium chloride at various concentrations ranging from 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0 to 1.5 M. These concentrations were varied to …

This study aims to develop and analyse the effect of single- and double-layer smart coating systems on enhancing the corrosion protection of carbon steel pipelines in oil and gas applications, addressing the challenge of corrosion in such harsh environments. Benzotriazole (BTA) is loaded into halloysite nanotubes (HNT) using a vacuum cyclic method to form BTA-HNT, and boiled linseed oil (BLO) is encapsulated within urea-formaldehyde microcapsules, referred to as MC-BLO. The double-layer smart coating (DLSC) is fabricated by mixing 15 wt% BTA-HNT and MC-BLO microcapsules with epoxy and applying it in two layers on carbon steel, while the single-layer smart coating …

The oil and gas industry faces significant challenges due to pipeline corrosion, resulting in substantial economic losses and safety risks. This study investigates the effectiveness of smart coatings containing varying concentrations of benzotriazole-loaded halloysite nanotubes (BTA-HNT) and boiled linseed oil microcapsules (MCs) in mitigating corrosion and to investigate the impact of different mixing techniques on the performance of these coatings. Epoxy coatings incorporating BTA-HNT and MCs were applied to carbon steel substrates in concentrations of 10 wt%, 15 wt%, and 20 wt%. Two mixing methods, magnetic stirring and sonication, were assessed for their ability to disperse the microcapsules effectively. Characterisation …

The oscillating water column (OWC) device is one of the most promising ocean wave energy extraction technologies. Most OWC studies focus on high-wave density areas, but there is limited research in low-wave density regions. This study evaluates the hydrodynamic efficiency of a 1:40 scale offshore OWC model in low-wave climates. Experiments were conducted using five different relative gaps (i/d) between the model and horizontal bottom plates, each with three distinct shapes (cone-shaped, circular-shaped, and flat), across seven wave periods in a wave flume. Hydrodynamic performance was measured through the amplification factor (Ai), which is defined as the ratio of water …
