Strict Steiner Symmetrization For Polygons, Joseph Chai, Sun-Yung Alice Chang Jun 2026

Strict Steiner Symmetrization For Polygons, Joseph Chai, Sun-Yung Alice Chang

Electronic Proceedings of Undergraduate Mathematics Day

In this note, we introduce a method called Strict Steiner Symmetrization (see Section 2.2) that is an altered form of Steiner Symmetrization that fixes the number of vertices. The context of this paper will be to prove the Isoperimetric Inequality in R2 via approximation by polygons. Specifically, to establish that among all n-gon domains in the plane, the regular m-gon, m ≥ n, uniquely minimizes the isoperimetric ratio and that the limit of this regular polygon (that is the circle) achieves equality in the isoperimetric inequality. This note is an extracted portion of my junior thesis (A Polygonal Proof of …

Predator-Prey Dynamics: Exploration And Logistic Extension Of The Lotka-Volterra System, Amanda Maylath, Samuel Brensinger Jun 2026

Predator-Prey Dynamics: Exploration And Logistic Extension Of The Lotka-Volterra System, Amanda Maylath, Samuel Brensinger

Electronic Proceedings of Undergraduate Mathematics Day

The Lotka-Volterra system is a classic model of predator–prey interactions, capturing the interdependent growth and decline of two species. Using a dynamical systems approach, we identify fixed points, linearize the system via the Jacobian, and analyze phase space trajectories to determine stability and long-term behavior. This analysis provides insight into predator-prey dynamics without requiring explicit solutions. We further extend the model by incorporating a carrying capacity for the prey, reflecting more realistic population dynamics.

Numerical Solutions Of The Poisson And Heat Equations Via Wave Kernel-Based Particular Solutions, Braylon Smith, Anup Lamichhane Jun 2026

Numerical Solutions Of The Poisson And Heat Equations Via Wave Kernel-Based Particular Solutions, Braylon Smith, Anup Lamichhane

Electronic Proceedings of Undergraduate Mathematics Day

In this paper, we investigate the closed-form particular solutions of Poisson’s equation using the wave kernel as a forcing term. We explore how the method of approximate particular solutions can be applied to obtain numerical solutions of partial differential equations such as the Poisson and heat equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions in 1D. Numerical experiments carried out in MATLAB validate that the derived closed-form particular solutions provide accurate numerical results, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Artificial Intelligence In Document Review: Statistically Defending The Process And Results Of E-Discovery Workflows, Aron Ahmadia, Nathan Reff, Matthew Reiber, Chad Roberts, Cristin Traylor Jun 2026

Artificial Intelligence In Document Review: Statistically Defending The Process And Results Of E-Discovery Workflows, Aron Ahmadia, Nathan Reff, Matthew Reiber, Chad Roberts, Cristin Traylor

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) for document review allows legal teams to process and produce electronic documents on a scale, speed, and cost that would have been unheard of only a few years ago.

But as legal teams become increasingly dependent on AI to locate and prioritize responsive documents, courts and opposing parties rightly demand heightened verification that the workflow is well designed and that the evidentiary output is sufficiently accurate to ensure a full and fair adjudication of the facts at trial. This Article explores the processes and statistical tools available to litigants to respond to related objections …

Force Multiplier?: Artificial Intelligence, Uneven Competence, And The Integrity Of The Adversarial System, Ralph Artigliere, David Horrigan, Rose Hunter Jones Jun 2026

Force Multiplier?: Artificial Intelligence, Uneven Competence, And The Integrity Of The Adversarial System, Ralph Artigliere, David Horrigan, Rose Hunter Jones

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

Generative artificial intelligence has entered legal practice with unprecedented speed, transforming how lawyers and judges synthesize information, develop arguments, and evaluate evidence. While early attention has focused on visible failures such as hallucinated citations and fabricated authority, these incidents do not capture the deeper structural risk AI poses to the legal system. The authors argue that generative AI is a stress test for legal institutions: it offers substantial opportunities to improve legal practice and access to justice, but it also operates as a force multiplier that can deepen structural asymmetries when professional competence and oversight are uneven. Unlike prior legal …

Who Has "Possession, Custody, Or Control" Of The Employee's Personal Mobile Device? Time For Amendments To The Federal Rules, Xavier Rodriguez

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

As mobile devices have become indispensable tools for professional communication, the distinction between personal and business data has blurred—creating critical challenges for litigators and organizations navigating discovery obligations. This Article explores the evolving jurisprudence surrounding whether and when a corporate defendant has “possession, custody, or control” over data stored on an employee’s personal mobile device. Drawing from a recorded podcast conversation and expanding on the legal foundations, I scrutinize the two primary frameworks courts use to analyze control—the “legal right” test and the “practical ability” test—and question their fitness in the context of modern mobile usage patterns.

This Article evaluates …

A Century Of Safer Skies: Statistical Insights Into Aviation Accidents And Death Rates, Abhijeet Regmi

Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the recent advancements in the technology used for aircraft maintenance and repair have resulted in an increase or decrease in the accident and fatality rates of aviation incidents and accidents. The primary concerns are the extremely low survival rates in aviation accidents and the necessity to determine whether or not the accident and fatality rates are declining in light of recent technological advancements. If the rate is rising, we must prioritize passenger and crew safety more and adhere to tight regulations when performing repairs and maintenance. The data were compared for …

The Open Wiki Of Electrochemical Methods (Owem): A Community-Driven Educational Resource, Anderson Fuller, Devin Rappleye Jun 2026

The Open Wiki Of Electrochemical Methods (Owem): A Community-Driven Educational Resource, Anderson Fuller, Devin Rappleye

Reviews, Analyses, and Instructional Studies in Electrochemistry (RAISE)

The traditional resources for learning electrochemical methods—textbooks, academic literature, and university coursework—remain essential but are limited in accessibility, update frequency, and practical usability. This paper introduces the Open Wiki of Electrochemical Methods (OWEM), an open-access, community-driven platform designed to complement these resources. OWEM organizes content into equations, definitions, methods, tutorials, and supplementary articles, with a heavy emphasis on experimental relevance. A case study on cyclic voltammetry demonstrates how OWEM consolidates foundational theory, lesser-known results, and practical guidance within a continuously maintainable framework to benefit the broader electrochemistry community.

"I Don’T Know That You Can Do That Anywhere Else": The Role Rural College Towns Play In The Formation Of Queer Identity, Amy Mcdowell, Ryan J. Parsons, Julia Kraus Jun 2026

"I Don’T Know That You Can Do That Anywhere Else": The Role Rural College Towns Play In The Formation Of Queer Identity, Amy Mcdowell, Ryan J. Parsons, Julia Kraus

Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education

Challenging dominant narratives suggesting that rural spaces are inhospitable to LGBTQ+ identities, this study examines how queer individuals navigate space, rurality, and queerness in Oxford, Mississippi, a historically conservative college town. Drawing on oral histories from the Queer Mississippi digital archive, we argue that rural institutions of higher learning (rural IHLs) and the college towns they are embedded in serve as critical sites of queer identity formation. The rural college town provides a unique space where LGBTQ+ individuals from both within and outside the South navigate self-discovery, social networks, and belonging. We highlight the transformative role of these spaces in …

Aspirational Mirrors: A Conceptual Model Of Alumni-Led Near-Peer Outreach For Precollege Engagement In Ocean Engineering, Habibi Palippui, Juswan Sade Jun 2026

Aspirational Mirrors: A Conceptual Model Of Alumni-Led Near-Peer Outreach For Precollege Engagement In Ocean Engineering, Habibi Palippui, Juswan Sade

Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER)

Precollege students in Indonesia, especially in rural and coastal regions, often lack exposure to engineering disciplines due to social, geographic, and informational barriers. This essay proposes a conceptual model of alumni-led near-peer outreach as an affective and culturally grounded mechanism to engage high school students in ocean engineering. Drawing from theories of social similarity, possible selves, and engineering identity, the model conceptualizes alumni as “aspirational mirrors” who influence students not merely through information but also through identification. The model outlines four primary mechanisms—social connection, narrative engagement, aspirational mirroring, and early identity activation—and also accounts for contextual variables such as school …

Internet Ethics, American Law, And Jewish Law: A Comparative Overview, Gertrude N. Levine, Samuel J. Levine Jun 2026

Internet Ethics, American Law, And Jewish Law: A Comparative Overview, Gertrude N. Levine, Samuel J. Levine

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

Societies are governed by codes of ethics. In developed societies, parts of these codes form a set of laws, enforceable by legal authorities, with or without assistance from the populace. At times, laws are crafted for the benefit of the powerful members of the society, ensuring preservation of their positions and property, while other constituents may ignore, actively disobey, or challenge laws they believe do not support their ethics. Developing and maintaining appropriate social norms is thus particularly critical for sustaining rapidly changing heterogeneous populaces.

The Internet, devised for the purpose of interconnecting diverse computer networks of research and educational …

Fintech And Disruptive Business Models In Financial Products, Intermediation And Markets-Policy Implications For Financial Regulators, Iris H-Y Chiu

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

A recent Financial Times survey indicates that the financial services sector (in mainstream terms) is concerned about the disruptive potential of several digital-based technologies as applied to financial services, such as blockchain, big data and robo-advisers. Not to mention that we have already of late witnessed the emergence of high frequency algorithmic trading, novel consumer payment devices, online crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending. Financial technology, which seems to be ushering in an order for upheaval, is defined by Price Waterhouse Coopers as "a dynamic segment at the intersection of the financial services and technology sectors where technology-focused start-ups and new market …

You Can't Hack This: The Regulatory Future Of Cybersecurity In Automobiles, Liz Allison Jun 2026

You Can't Hack This: The Regulatory Future Of Cybersecurity In Automobiles, Liz Allison

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

This Note argues that any new legislation imposing new safety regulations on car manufacturers is unnecessary, and will ultimately create more problems than it solves. First, there are numerous established laws that either already require what some of these propose, or address the issues involved in car hacking. Secondly, as vehicular technology becomes more advanced, so too will the methods available to fix the vulnerabilities within their systems. Finally, the government's inefficiencies and inability to stave off its own cyberattacks makes any type of federal regulations requiring minimum safety protocols a cumbersome option. For these reasons, this Note argues private …

Unified Dynamic User State Vector With Cross-State Conflict Resolution For Recommendation Ranking, Anonymous Jun 2026

Unified Dynamic User State Vector With Cross-State Conflict Resolution For Recommendation Ranking, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are disclosed for recommendation ranking using a unified, explicitly decomposed user psychological state vector. A coordination layer loads per-user state values including mood, trust, cognitive mode, topic-indexed satiation, and topic-indexed curiosity, constructs explicit cross-state interaction features (including trust×curiosity, mood×satiation, mode×satiation, and trust×mood), and provides these to a ranking model to compute base scores for candidate items. A conflict resolution engine detects contradictory ranking actions implied by different state dimensions and applies a dominance hierarchy with cascading hard and soft constraints, including mood-based content suppression and trust-gated exploration as hard constraints and satiation discounting as a soft constraint. …

Coordination-Resistant Differential Privacy Layer For Recommendation Platform Signals, Anonymous Jun 2026

Coordination-Resistant Differential Privacy Layer For Recommendation Platform Signals, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

A recommendation platform serves signals such as rankings, trending indicators, popularity metrics, price distributions, and market-level statistics to autonomous agents. A differential privacy layer generates agent-specific responses by applying calibrated (e, d)-differential privacy noise independently per agent, optionally with per-agent consistency within an epoch, so different agents querying the same signal receive different values. The layer maintains per-agent privacy budgets with signal-type-specific query costs and composition-aware accounting, and can rate-limit or return maximally noised coordination-relevant signals upon budget exhaustion. The layer may also randomize signal freshness by scheduling per-agent update delays within signal-type-specific windows. A coordination-risk monitor computes a segment …

Negotiation-Mediated Recommendation Platform For Autonomous Agent Commerce, Anonymous Jun 2026

Negotiation-Mediated Recommendation Platform For Autonomous Agent Commerce, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

A platform mediates commerce between autonomous buyer and seller agents by treating recommendation as structured negotiation. The platform receives structured buyer requirements including hard constraints and preference information, and structured seller offers including multi-attribute flexibility ranges for terms such as price, delivery, warranty, and bundling. Compatibility scores are computed to select feasible matches and initiate a multi-round proposal and counter-proposal protocol. When negotiations stall, the platform computes or approximates Pareto-efficient candidate agreements and may select a bargaining-based compromise point. The platform may apply surplus-based fees and incentive-compatible transfer logic and may maintain credibility scores from observed negotiation behavior. Negotiation outcomes …

Evaluator Stress Testing For Recommendation Quality Gaming Detection, Anonymous Jun 2026

Evaluator Stress Testing For Recommendation Quality Gaming Detection, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are described for stress-testing automated quality evaluators used in recommendation ranking to detect format-driven score gaming. For an item, the system generates format-perturbed variants that preserve semantic content and content-perturbed variants that preserve formatting, validates the variants using similarity and entailment or divergence constraints, and obtains evaluator scores for the item and variants. Format sensitivity and content sensitivity are computed from score differences, and a gaming score is derived as a ratio of sensitivities with an epsilon term. The gaming score may be used to compute an adjusted ranking score using category-calibrated parameters, to monitor item-, producer-, …

Creator Incentive Preservation System Under Agent-Mediated Consumption In Recommendation Platforms, Anonymous Jun 2026

Creator Incentive Preservation System Under Agent-Mediated Consumption In Recommendation Platforms, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are described for operating a recommendation platform with creator-incentive preservation under agent-mediated consumption. The platform computes a per-creator Creator Activity Index combining production trends, quality trends, response sensitivity indicative of gaming, return-on-effort trajectory, and churn risk estimated via survival modeling. A platform Ecosystem Diversity Score is computed from active creator count, traffic concentration, topic entropy, and new-creator entry success. An inverse-relationship monitor estimates an effective recommendation-accuracy parameter from traffic distributions and identifies operation relative to a threshold regime in which increasing accuracy corresponds to decreasing creator production volume. A policy controller updates ranking using constrained optimization, including …

Performative Stability Controller For Agent-Facing Recommendation Systems, Anonymous Jun 2026

Performative Stability Controller For Agent-Facing Recommendation Systems, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are disclosed for stabilizing agent-facing recommendation policies subject to performative feedback. Interaction data is collected from an exposed population receiving a deployed recommendation policy and a holdout population receiving baseline recommendations. A first predictor trained on exposed data and a second predictor trained on holdout data are compared to compute a performative effect magnitude, including a divergence between predicted distributions. Counterfactual demand estimation produces item-level recommendation dependence scores and contamination ratios separating organic and induced demand. A self-referential loop detector evaluates directionality using correlation and Granger causality and may apply Fourier analysis to detect feedback resonance. Stability …

Parasocial Relationship Lifecycle Modeling For Creator Recommendations With Phase-Specific Ranking Strategies, Anonymous Jun 2026

Parasocial Relationship Lifecycle Modeling For Creator Recommendations With Phase-Specific Ranking Strategies, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are described for recommending creator content using parasocial relationship lifecycle modeling. Interaction data are used to compute signals for each user-creator pair including cross-topic engagement consistency, engagement differential versus other creators within the same topics, and catalog coverage. A pair may be classified as parasocial based on thresholding these signals. A state machine assigns a lifecycle phase selected from discovery, rising attachment, peak attachment, fatigue, recovery, and disengagement using engagement level and engagement trends over time. Per-request ranking applies phase-specific strategies and exposure limits, selects a diversity dimension between topic diversity and creator diversity based on whether the user …

Reactance-Aware Adaptive Personalization Intensity With Behavioral Detection And Dynamic Modulation In Recommendation Systems, Anonymous Jun 2026

Reactance-Aware Adaptive Personalization Intensity With Behavioral Detection And Dynamic Modulation In Recommendation Systems, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

A recommendation system detects psychological reactance using explicit, implicit, and contextual behavioral signals and computes a per-user reactance score with temporal decay. A personalization intensity is determined per user and per content domain based on a domain-specific base intensity, the reactance score, and a context multiplier, subject to a minimum floor. The system modulates ranking in accordance with the intensity by adjusting feature-group weights and/or masking tiers of features. The system also generates an explanation whose framing corresponds to the computed intensity and truthfully reflects factors used for selection, including personal behavioral framing at higher intensities, neutral interest-based framing at …

Challenge Preference Generation And Boundary Testing For Filter Bubble Prevention In Content Recommendation Systems, Anonymous Jun 2026

Challenge Preference Generation And Boundary Testing For Filter Bubble Prevention In Content Recommendation Systems, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are disclosed for managing negative preference boundaries in content recommendation. A boundary record is identified from explicit signals (e.g., natural-language dislikes, hides) or implicit signals (e.g., repeated exposure with low engagement) and stored with a confidence score and timestamps. Boundary confidence decays over time using an exponential decay with a floor. When a boundary’s decayed confidence meets a testing criterion, the system generates semantically adjacent challenge preferences using an ontology, including intersection bridges with liked topics, softened variants, or meta-content framings, and selects bridges using a plausibility score. One or more probe items matching a selected challenge …
