A Systematic Survey Of Brachyuran Land Crabs In The Online Tropical Aquarium Trade, Ella Xanthe Whitaker, David L. Roberts, John I. Spicer, Lucy Millicent Turner
A Systematic Survey Of Brachyuran Land Crabs In The Online Tropical Aquarium Trade, Ella Xanthe Whitaker, David L. Roberts, John I. Spicer, Lucy Millicent Turner
School of Biological and Marine Sciences
Globally the tropical aquatic aquarium trade is a multi-million-dollar industry. Although marine ornamental fish and invertebrates are the main focus, tropical freshwater ornamental species including invertebrates (classed by the sector as semi-aquatic, such as land crabs) are also traded. Land crabs include both brachyurans (true crabs) and anomurans (false crabs, including hermit crabs). These are sourced from wild populations and/or tank-bred for use as ornamental commodity species. This global trade is unregulated and the full extent of the brachyuran land crab trade is unknown. Land crabs are important ecosystem engineers, and collection for the tropical freshwater/semi-aquatic aquarium industry is believed …

Transformative Phygital Service Research (Tpsr): An Agenda For Future Research, Saadia Shabnam, Sanjit K. Roy, Yonathan Silvain Roten, Gaganpreet Singh, Taewon Suh, Hairong Li
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Purpose – This paper aims to develop a transformative phygital service research (TPSR) framework to explain how hybrid physical-digital service systems shape consumer well-being, autonomy, dignity and inclusion. While prior phygital service research (PSR) advances understanding of hybrid experiences and human-centred ecosystems, key ambiguities persist around agency, governance and interpretive labour in algorithmically mediated interactions. Existing frameworks address value co-creation but lack clarity on how digitally enforced rules and redistributed labour drive transformation. TPSR addresses this gap by theorising contradiction-driven processes through which human–AI arrangements and socio-technical dynamics produce both empowering and erosive outcomes in phygital service environments. Design/methodology/approach – …

Sales Innovativeness Climate And B2b Salesperson Performance: The Roles Of Persistence, Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy And Creative Selling, John Charles Peter Edwards, Steven Peter D'Alessandro, Morgan Miles
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Purpose: Persistence is widely viewed as essential for success in business to business (B2B) selling, yet it remains unclear how persistence translates into higher sales performance when selling requires experimentation and novel customer solutions. This study examines whether a perceived sales innovativeness climate enables persistence and entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) and, in turn, creative selling, driving B2B sales performance.
Design/methodology/approach: An online survey of 346 US-based B2B salespeople was analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).
Findings: The perceived sales-innovativeness climate is positively associated with ESE, persistence, and sales performance. Persistence is positively related to sales performance and ESE, …
Heterogeneous Graph-Augmented Contrastive Learning For Extreme Multi-Class Fiqh Classification, Ali A. Jalil
Heterogeneous Graph-Augmented Contrastive Learning For Extreme Multi-Class Fiqh Classification, Ali A. Jalil
Al-Bahir
- Background/Introduction: Fine-grained text classification in the field of Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) is difficult because of the structural interdependence of the legal concepts and the extremely multi-class long-tail data distribution (667 classes with 5,979 samples, 52.2% of which contain less than 5 samples). The main problem with traditional flat classifiers is that they assume that target classes are independent and orthogonal output neurons which discards very important relational semantics.
- Objectives: This paper seeks to remediate this extreme imbalance and maintain structural taxonomy by modeling the structural space of classification label space itself as an object to be learned, while giving a …

Technical Disclosure: The Urban Biosphere Ziggurat (Ubz), Affordable Housing And Urban Planning, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
Current high-density urban housing models in the United States routinely fail because they optimize strictly for initial cost-per-square-foot, resulting in double-loaded corridor containment layouts that restrict natural light, induce community stagnation, and induce severe benefit "cliff effects" on upwardly mobile residents. The Urban Biosphere Ziggurat (UBZ) framework resolves this systemic crisis by decoupling high-tech, factory-precise structural engineering from regional, artistic architectural cladding. This disclosure outlines a scalable, non-speculative structural chassis integrated into a Community Land Trust (CLT) and Limited-Equity Housing Cooperative (LEHC) [1.5] governance ecosystem, permanently divesting real estate from predatory international speculation. Concurrent Presentation And Evaluation Of Multi-Stream Media, Guillaume Vernon Bailey
Defensive Publications Series
Current techniques for displaying vertical videos on landscape displays suffer from inefficient use of lateral screen space and rely on linear navigation that yields limited, dwell-time-based engagement data. The disclosed technology addresses this by replacing single-video presentation with a concurrent multi-stream interface, displaying multiple vertical videos side-by-side in a user interface on a screen of a television. The disclosed technology maintains one media content item in an active playback state while keeping peripheral media content items in a subdued state, such as dimmed or paused. Users navigate horizontally to shift the active focus or vertically to populate a completely new …

Power Flow Calculation Method And Application Of Low-Frequency Alternating Current Transmission System For Offshore Wind Power Based On Dru, Hao Yu, Yuwei Yao, Minjia Zheng, Honglin Chen, Zhengmin Zuo, Chenxin Yu, Haishun Sun
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
The low-frequency alternating current transmission system for offshore wind power based on a diode rectifier unit (DRU) is a novel technical scheme with application prospects for the grid connection of deep-sea offshore wind power. Due to the uncontrollability of the DRU, the operation state of the low-frequency alternating current system is controlled by wind turbines using a grid-forming amplitude-phase control mode. To analyze the relationship between system operation state and wind power control characteristics, a power flow calculation model of the DRU-based low-frequency alternating current transmission system for offshore wind power was established. Definite conditions and equations to be solved …

A Novel Fault Location Method For Renewable Energy Transmission Lines Based On Time-Domain Transient Voltage Fitting, Li Zhang, Shengnan Li, Shiyao Wang, Shoudong Xu, Ligen Xie, Jinrui Tang
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Affected by the control strategy and parameters of renewable energy units, once a fault occurs in a renewable energy transmission line, the short-circuit current on the renewable energy side exhibits characteristics such as controlled amplitude, sudden phase change, and a high proportion of non-power-frequency components, which leads to the failure of traditional double-end and single-end fault location methods based on power-frequency components. To address this problem, higher-order fault transient differential equations of the renewable energy transmission line before and after the fault point were provided. A joint equation system for solving fault distance was constructed based on the time-domain sampled …

A Differential Equation–Based Epidemiological Model Of Post-Operative Chronic Pain In Scoliosis Patients With Data-Driven Analysis, Paige Zhu, Padmanabhan Seshaiyer
CODEE Journal
Chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP) is a common and often overlooked complication following surgical correction of idiopathic scoliosis, impacting long-term patient wellbeing despite improvements in surgical outcomes. This project introduces a novel epidemiological framework to model the progression of CPSP using a compartmental structure. By applying a coupled system of nonlinear differential equations, we simulate pain trajectories over time and assess the effectiveness of surgical interventions. The model is implemented for a single-cohort population and extended to a two-cohort design to compare outcomes between Posterior Spinal Fusion (PSIF) and Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT) procedures. Further stratification by patient age enables us …

Ai-Driven Detection Of Neurodevelopmental Disorder From Emotional Speech Using A Hybrid Cnn–Bilstm–Attention Framework, Nayarah Shabir, Parveen Lehana, Sheema Khan
School of Medicine Publications
Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are associated with impairments in communication, behavior, and social interaction, making accurate diagnosis clinically challenging. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a major NDD, often exhibits atypical speech patterns characterized by altered prosody and reduced emotional expressiveness. The study proposes a hybrid dual-path framework for ASD detection from emotional speech using two strategies: PCA–GMM-based acoustic modeling and a CNN–BiLSTM–Attention architecture for spectral–temporal feature learning. The proposed framework captures probabilistic, spectral, and temporal speech characteristics for robust ASD classification. Acoustic analysis demonstrated clear separability between ASD and non-ASD speech, while the deep learning framework achieved stable and reliable performance across …

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use is linked to multiple cancer types and a quarter of cancer deaths. Tobacco smoke contains numerous mutagenic chemicals such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), however, the mutagenicity of many chemicals in tobacco products remains underexplored. The tobacco-specific nitrosamines 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) and N'-nitrosonornicotine (NNN), both International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Group 1 carcinogens, form pre-mutagenic pyridyloxobutyl (POB) DNA adducts, yet little is known about the associated genomic mutation landscape(s) in humans. METHODS: We applied bulk and error-corrected next-generation sequencing to a battery of experimental systems comprising mammalian cell lines and animals exposed to NNK or NNN, …

Source-Load Extreme Scenario Generation Method For Integrated Energy Systems Based On Wgan-Gp, Zhengxing Zhong, Tong Xing, Chaoyu Xiong, Dechang Yang, Lijun Zhang
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
To enhance the operational security of integrated energy systems (IES) under extreme weather conditions, it is essential to fully consider the impact of extreme scenarios in production scheduling. However, because historical samples of extreme scenarios are scarce, IES face challenges in operational scenario modeling and scheduling, making effective methods for generating extreme scenarios highly significant. To address this issue, a method based on a Wasserstein generative adversarial network with gradient penalty (WGAN-GP) was proposed for generating source-load extreme scenarios in IES. By introducing the Wasserstein distance and gradient penalty, the proposed method improves model training stability, increases the diversity of …

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Metal particle discharge and mechanical faults inside gas insulated switchgear (GIS) are key factors affecting its safety performance. These faults can be detected and identified using the ultrasonic and vibration signals generated by them. Simulated experiments of four types of particle discharge, normal operation, and flange bolt loosening were designed on a GIS platform, and the time-frequency domain characteristics of the signals were analyzed. It is found that, in the ultrasonic signals, the frequency bands of linear, spherical, and lump particle discharges are mainly concentrated in 50–60 kHz, while that of flaky particle discharge is concentrated in 15–30 kHz; in …

Lqr Control Based On Ga Optimization For Suppressing Power Oscillations In Fractional-Order Vsg, Jun Zhu, Zhengbin Chen, Jiantang Chen, Haozhuo Wei, Penghui Liu, Ming Yang
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
A linear quadratic regulator (LQR) optimized based on the genetic algorithm (GA) was designed to suppress power oscillations in a virtual synchronous generator (VSG) under external disturbances. A state-feedback LQR controller was designed by establishing a small-signal model of the VSG power loop. To optimize the control performance, the GA was used to perform offline optimization of the weight-matrix parameters of LQR. The weight-optimized LQR control law was applied to the fractional-order VSG. The simulation results show that, compared with traditional VSG control, the proposed control strategy can effectively suppress power oscillations, reducing the oscillation overshoots of active and reactive …

A Novel Fault-Tolerant Control Strategy Under Submodule Faults Of Modular Multilevel Converters, Yu Guo, Xiangyang Xia, Runwu Li, Rui Yi
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
To address the problems of asymmetric arm operation and fundamental and second-harmonic circulating currents caused by submodule faults in a modular multilevel converter (MMC) under hot standby in a flexible direct current system, a fault-tolerant control strategy coordinated by an improved PIR circulating current control and an inner-loop current sliding mode control is proposed. By introducing a three-parameter notch filter to precisely separate the circulating current components, the improved PIR control achieves the coordinated suppression of fundamental and second-harmonic harmonics. Simultaneously, the traditional PI inner-loop control is replaced by the sliding mode control to significantly improve the dynamic response speed …

Two-Stage Optimal Scheduling Of Wind-Storage Combined Power Generation System Based On Improved Beetle Swarm Algorithm, Shuai Xiao, Zhiyong Lin, G Chuyu Zhen, Zhiguo Ouyang, Lirou He, Xue Yu
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
To solve the problem that wind farms equipped with energy storage systems are difficult to balance the grid peak shaving demand and their own operational efficiency under the condition of limited local information, a two-stage optimal scheduling model for wind-storage combined systems with localized information is proposed. In the day-ahead optimal scheduling stage, based on the easily obtainable total system load curve, the charging and discharging power of the energy storage is actively optimized with the goal of minimizing the peak-valley difference of the net load at the grid connection point; under the premise of not relying on global information, …

Multi-Objective Interval Optimal Dispatch Method For Regional Power Grid Considering Hydrodynamics, Xiaofeng Yu, Xuan Sheng, Baohua Zhong, Rixin Luo, Shunjiang Lin
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
The uncertainties of the power output of renewable energy stations such as wind power and photovoltaic and the hydrodynamic characteristics of the river channel connecting various run-of-river hydropower stations pose a great challenge to the generation dispatch scheduling of the regional power grid containing wind power-photovoltaic-run-of-river hydropower. The Saint-Venant equations are used to describe the dynamic relationship between flow rate and water level in the river channel. The numerical solution of the equations is obtained by the Preissmann difference method, and the convexified equations are further obtained through McCormick envelope and convex envelope relaxation methods. Interval numbers are used to …

Adaptive Reclosing Strategy For Active Distribution Networks Considering Secondary Arc, Zhenxing Li, Xiaorong Zhang, Cong Hu, Yi Zhu, Ruofan Huang, Hanli Weng, Qiujie Wang
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
In view of the problem that the current adaptive reclosing scheme for active distribution networks recloses after an inherent delay upon identifying the disappearance of faults, without considering whether the accompanying arc is completely extinguished, an adaptive reclosing strategy for active distribution networks considering secondary arc was proposed. First, measurement points were set at the circuit breaker of the faulted line and the new energy outlet, and the reclosing and new energy off-grid operations were realized without interconnection communication according to the in-situ measured quantities of the two locations. Second, a secondary arc model of the distribution network was established, …

Optimal Power Flow Solving And Feasibility Restoration Method For Distribution Networks Based On Deep Learning, Ji Chen, Huihuang Cai, Weidong Zhong, Minghua Chu, Huan Long, Ziqing Shi
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
As the core of optimal dispatching decision-making for distribution networks, optimal power flow (OPF) urgently requires fast calculation methods under large-scale grid frameworks. A deep learning-based OPF solving method oriented toward feasibility restoration was proposed. First, an OPF solving architecture based on state-control variable decomposition was constructed, and an OPF state variable solving model was built based on a deep neural network. Second, to address the problem that OPF results based on deep neural networks fail to satisfy control variable constraints, samples with inequality constraint violations were screened to construct a correction sample set; considering actual physical constraints and supply-demand …

When a high-impedance ground fault occurs in a distribution network, traditional knowledge-driven methods suffer from low accuracy in threshold selection, while data-driven methods have poor interpretability due to the lack of mechanism support. To address this problem, a data-knowledge joint-driven approach was proposed for identifying high-impedance ground faults in distribution networks. First, wavelet packet time-frequency entropy was used to quantitatively analyze the panoramic characteristics of high-impedance ground faults and normal disturbance conditions, thus revealing significant differences in their time-frequency distributions. Then, by qualitatively analyzing the characteristics of time-frequency energy spectrum matrices at different fault points, the knowledge-driven identification method based …

In view of the increasingly significant differences in the spatiotemporal distribution of regional loads caused by the large-scale development of electric vehicles, an optimization strategy for regional dynamic interleaved electricity prices based on travel chains was proposed, and a three-dimensional coupling mechanism of “user travel characteristics, regional load characteristics, and dynamic time-series response of electricity prices” was constructed to meet the differentiated electricity demand in different regions. Firstly, based on the travel chain theory, the time characteristics of cross-regional movements of electric vehicles were analyzed, and the temporal correlation of electricity price strategies in each region was dynamically adjusted: in …

To improve the overall fuel economy of extended-range electric vehicles and optimize battery usage, a hierarchical energy management strategy combining the advantages of model predictive control and fuzzy control was proposed to address the trade-off between real-time control and optimal performance in electric vehicle energy management. An energy flow model for an extended-range electric vehicle, consisting of a generator set, a hybrid energy storage system, and an electric motor, was developed. To optimize equivalent fuel consumption, optimal power allocation between the range extender and the hybrid energy storage system was determined through online rolling optimization using a model predictive controller. …
