Influence Of Laser Power On Glass Formation In Cu64zr36 Fabricated By Direct Laser Deposition, Max A. Siefert
Influence Of Laser Power On Glass Formation In Cu64zr36 Fabricated By Direct Laser Deposition, Max A. Siefert
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
Metallic glasses, metallic materials with a disordered, non-crystalline atomic structure, can be fabricated by rapidly quenching a specific alloy from the liquid state. One intriguing fabrication strategy is direct laser deposition (DLD), and additive manufacturing technique which involves using a laser to melt small volumes of material, which then cool rapidly once the laser is removed. The goal for this independent study is to find how the laser power during the first remelt affects the overall glass formation ability of Cu64Zr36 alloy fabricated from elemental powders. This was done by using a Laser Engineered Net Shaping machine …

Photoluminescent defects in diamond, such as the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color center, are at the forefront of emerging optical quantum technologies. Most emit in the visible and near-infrared spectral region below 1000 nm (NIR-I), limiting their applications in photonics, fiber communications, and biology. Here, we show that the nitrogen-vacancy-nitrogen (N2V) center, which emits in the visible and near-infrared-II (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm), is ubiquitous in as-synthesized and processed nitrogen-doped diamond, ranging from bulk samples to nanoparticles. We demonstrate that N2V is also present in commercially available state-of-the-art NV diamond sensing chips made via chemical vapor deposition (CVD). In high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) diamonds, …

Baghdad Science Journal
In operation research, a specific area being analyzed in great depth is the transportation problem (TP). The key objective of this problem is to find the lowest total transportation costs for commodities to meet consumer requirements at destinations incorporating resources acquired at their points of origin. In this work, the spherical fuzzy transportation problem (SFTP) determines the lowest cost of carrying items from origin to destination. Most of the time, accurate data has been used, but these variables are actually inaccurate and ambiguous. According to the literature, several generalizations and expansions of fuzzy sets have been proposed and investigated. One …

Wave partial differential equations are one of the most important topics that model, for example, the wave motion of ground vibrations. Hence, finding approximate solutions to such equations with high accuracy and speed faster than difficult and complex analytical solutions has become possible through the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods. This research has three goals. The first is to transform the problem of the initial value of the wave equation into its legal form and find its accurate solution. The second is to write a linear-regression neural network algorithm. The third result is applying this algorithm to …

Evaluating The Protective Role Of Epo-R76e In Oxidative Stress-Induced Cell Death In Retinal Pigment Epithelium, Jemima Alam
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) causes dysfunction and loss of Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). The degeneration and death of RPE cells causes irreversible visual impairment. Oxidative stress is a widely accepted triggering factor for RPE dysfunction. A hormone called Erythropoietin (EPO) is responsible to facilitate the erythropoiesis process, prevents progenitor cells from apoptosis and protects photoreceptors downregulating retinal degeneration. In this study, we aim to elucidate the role of EPO in downregulating oxidative stress in RPE. It is hypothesized that EPO will have a positive impact on suppressing oxidative stress and ferroptosis-mediated RPE degeneration due to its vital role in apoptosis …

Progress Towards The Asymmetric De Novo Synthesis Of Tetracyclic Triterpenoids: Cucurbitanes, Lanostanes, And Cardiotonic Steroids, Andrea Rachel Bucknam
Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations
The complex molecular scaffolds of tetracyclic triterpenoid natural products continue to inspire novel chemical reactions. Steroid-based drugs have contributed significantly to human health in the past century, demonstrating a broad range of therapeutic applications including anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer activities. However, the efficient and flexible synthesis of tetracyclic triterpenoids remains an unsolved problem. Despite numerous reports of medically relevant bioactivity associated with cucurbitanes, lanostanes, and cardenolides, exploration of their pharmaceutical promise has been limited by a lack of access to molecules bearing their requisite carbon frameworks. Prior to the initiation of my doctoral research, there were no reported syntheses of …

The restricted nonlinear (RNL) model is employed as low-order representation of turbulent flow over riblets at 𝑅𝑒𝜏 ≈ 395. Comparisons with direct numerical simulations (DNS) verify the ability of the model to accurately capture low-order statistics, as well as trends in drag-alteration and secondary motion as a function of riblet geometry and spacing. We demonstrate the ability of the RNL model to reproduce additional flow features by decomposing the roughness function to isolate contributions from the total stress and comparing its predictions to DNS data. An analysis of the spectra of Reynolds shear stress shows that the RNL model captures …

The histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4) methyltransferase KMT2D (also called MLL4) is one of the most frequently mutated epigenetic modifiers in many cancers, including medulloblastoma (MB). Notably, heterozygous KMT2D loss frequently occurs in MB and other cancers. However, its oncogenic role remains largely uncharacterized. Here, we show that heterozygous Kmt2d loss in murine cerebellar regions promotes MB genesis driven by heterozygous loss of the MB-suppressor gene Ptch via the upregulation of tumor-promoting programs (e.g., oxidative phosphorylation [OXPHOS]). Downregulation of the transcription-repressive tumor suppressor NCOR2 by heterozygous Kmt2d loss, along with Ptch

During the Silurian/Devonian (S/D) boundary interval, scyphocrinoids (Crinoidea, Echinodermata) flourished on a global scale. The first record of scyphocrinoids from Türkiye, especially represented by their bulbuous loboliths, is now described from the Halevikdere Section in the Eastern Taurides. The Devonian part of the section is more than 1300 m thick and covers a time span from the S/D boundary interval to the Late Devonian (Famennian). It consists mainly of fine-grained to sandy siliciclastics, event-driven conglomerates/fanglomerates and biogenic carbonates deposited in deep shelf to shallow-water coastal settings. The S/D boundary interval was measured and studied in great detail. The dominant lithology …

The Africano marbles (Africano Verde and Bigio Africano) extracted from the region of Sığacık (ancient Teos) region and its surroundings were widely used and even traded in construction and decorative items throughout the Roman period due to their brecciated and colourful appearance. There are two different types of Africano marble, the first consisting of marble breccias embedded in a dark matrix. In this type, the marble breccias show micritic, microsparitic, and sometimes sparitic textures formed by coarse-grained calcite, while the dark matrix consists of chlorite and/or serpentine minerals. The second type is Bigio Africano, which consists of grey-blue homogeneous limestones, …
The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence On Esg: A Conceptual Framework For Practitioners And Policymakers, Mario Marlito R. Domingo
The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence On Esg: A Conceptual Framework For Practitioners And Policymakers, Mario Marlito R. Domingo
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
The growing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into corporate ecosystems has reshaped the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) landscape. While AI offers powerful tools for sustainability optimization, social equity advancements, and governance automation, it also introduces significant challenges such as high energy consumption, bias in algorithmic decision-making, and regulatory uncertainties. Existing research often isolates these aspects rather than examining AI’s role within an interconnected ESG framework. This paper presents a conceptual framework—the AI-ESG Integration Model—for systematically analyzing AI’s dual impact on ESG initiatives. The model categorizes AI’s influence into three pillars: 1) AI’s role in environmental sustainability (E), addressing energy-intensive …

Teachers’ Use Of Generative Artificial Intelligence For Designing Science Lessons In Support Of Environmental Science Agency, Won Jung Kim
Teacher Education
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) holds promise as a tool to assist teachers in addressing specific instructional design and implementation tasks. This study explores how teachers in a master’s-level elementary science methods course used Large Language Model AI, as one type of GenAI, to design lessons fostering students’ environmental science agency (ESA). The course introduced ESA as one of pedagogical constructs that emphasize the importance of science learning relevant and consequential to students’ lives, and encouraged teachers to use GenAI for their ESA-focused lesson design projects. Data sources included surveys, lesson design documents, GenAI chat logs, and field notes. Findings, derived …

Examining How Self-Advocacy Skills Are Taught To Students With Exceptionalities, Pamela Kay Choate
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Students with mild to moderate exceptionalities often do not receive adequate instruction in self-advocacy skills during their elementary or middle school years. The specific problem addressed in this study was that many teachers at the research setting are not teaching the four component skills of self-advocacy to students with mild to moderate exceptionalities. Grounded by the theory of self-advocacy, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the strategies used and the barriers faced by teachers who are not teaching the four component skills of self-advocacy to students with mild to moderate exceptionalities. Four elementary and five middle …
