Cornell University’s Alpha mission is a 1U CubeSat that deploys a retroreflective free-flying light sail in LEO. Mounted to the sail, and serving as its flight computers, are four ChipSats –gram-scale spacecraft assembled onto a single palm-sized PCB. These satellites collect and downlink data on the sail’s orbital position and attitude kinematics, communicating directly with low-cost ground stations around the globe. This paper introduces the ChipSat developed specifically for the Alpha mission launching in 2025. The new femto-satellite builds on previous-generation designs with a significant revamp of the RF communications. This paper provides an overview of the as-flown ChipSat design …

The recent increase in small satellites and diverse satellite missions has heightened the need for flexible and highly reliable ground station software. However, most existing open-source ground station software is implemented with the entire system in mind, making it difficult to accommodate diverse missions. Even when accommodating diverse missions, it is necessary to edit configuration files with a wide range of descriptions or make internal service modifications. Furthermore, as the number of available ground station services increases, there is an urgent need for systems that can support a wider range of interfaces. In addition, modern satellite development requires flexible support …

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics
Computed tomography (CT) scans require precise and early lung cancer detection to produce better clinical results. High accuracy in deep learning approaches (DL) poses an existing challenge to interpret their functionality effectively. This research presents an innovative modular multi-backbone structure that combines channel-spatial attention together with explainable AI (XAI) methods for three-class lung cancer diagnosis (Normal, Benign, and Malignant). Research was carried out to evaluate six pre-trained CNN backbones (ResNet-50, VGG19, Inception-V3, EfficientNet-B0, MobileNet-V2, DenseNet-121) which received hybrid attention enhancement on the IQ-OTH/NCCD dataset. The experimental data showed four pre-trained models reaching perfect accuracy at 100 percent whereas the others …

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics
In this work, we describe and investigate a novel collection of analytic functions, including the new functions and the Bazilevič functions. An important component of analytic functions, Bazilevič functions have numerous uses in both pure and practical mathematics. For this class of functions, we concentrate on building Toeplitz matrices, examining their structural characteristics, and evaluating their eigenvalues and trends. We utilise these studies to draw sophisticated mathematical conclusions on the stability and convergence characteristics of Bazilevič functions, as well as possible uses in geometry and differential equations. This work aims to determine coefficient estimates for the functions in this family …

Classify Cancers Types Using Mirnas Profiles And Machine Learning, Wafaa Khazaal Shams
AUIQ Technical Engineering Science
Cancer classification is important for early diagnosis and effective treatment. This study proposes a hybrid framework that combines Fisher Discriminant analysis (FD) with Linear Support Vector Machine (LSVM) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) expression profiles for three types of cancer are used to evaluate the model. These are: lung- adenocarcinoma, ovary and pancreas cancers. The classification process is done using 5-fold cross valuation. Results show significant performance for LSTM compared to LSVM with and without features reduction. However, using FD analysis results in high accuracy reached 0.97and 0.96 for LSTM and LSVM respectively, using 50 miRNAs. The …

Cybersecurity: Digital Stewardship In A Violent World, Rocky K. C. Chang
Cybersecurity: Digital Stewardship In A Violent World, Rocky K. C. Chang
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
This paper defines cybersecurity based on the principle of biblical stewardship. The focus of this principle is God, not the technologies, who is the creator and owner of cyberspace and everything in it. Humankind is called by God to steward them by protecting the digital property of our neighbors in cyberspace from malicious attacks. In the context of cybersecurity, a neighbor can be any individual cyber user, practitioner, educator, organization, tech company, or even hacker. However, as argued from the perspectives of human sin and human finitude, the defending stewards can never win over evil in this spiritual battle. Instead, …

Industrial Engineering: Faculty & Staff Publications
Traditional health insurance claim processing systems are plagued by inefficiencies and vulnerabilities, often resulting in significant financial losses due to fraudulent activities. Existing fraud detection methods are largely manual, time-consuming, and inadequate for handling the complexity and scale of modern fraudulent schemes. Moreover, the trust-based relationships between insurers and healthcare providers lack mechanisms to ensure data integrity and prevent manipulation. While several blockchain-based systems have been proposed to improve transparency and tamper resistance, they typically focus on structured data and predefined fraud types, offering limited adaptability and analytical insight. This paper proposes a novel solution leveraging blockchain technology and Large …

Singlet fission (SF) and triplet–triplet annihilation (TTA) are processes which may be exploited to boost the efficiency of solar energy technology. Despite being studied since the late 1960s, the mechanism of singlet fission is still not fully understood. This is partly because the main technique used to study singlet fission, optical or visible/near-IR transient absorption spectroscopy, cannot distinguish between the strongly coupled triplet-pair state1(TT), weakly interacting triplet pairs (T..T), and independent triplet states T1+ T1. To solve this problem, we combine transient optical spectroscopy performed as a function of magnetic field and transient electron …

The Governor’S Cabinet Project A Study Of The Evolution Of The Executive Branch, Revis. L. Edmonds
The Governor’S Cabinet Project A Study Of The Evolution Of The Executive Branch, Revis. L. Edmonds
Theses and Dissertations
In Arkansas’s long path toward modernizing its executive branch, it may appear to the casual observer that the state was locked in a process in which its politics and its culture were engaged in a longstanding tug-of-war between traditionalists and modernizers—a conflict complicated by the state’s personality-based politics and restrictive post-Reconstruction constitution. It has often been asserted that the conflict, in Arkansas’s case the romanticizing of rural life as opposed to the economic and social interests of the fast-growing suburbs of Central and Northwest Arkansas, explains a great deal of this slow transition. This attitude was largely a product of …

SSNA1 is a fibrillar protein involved in dynamic microtubule remodeling, including nucleation, co-polymerization, and microtubule branching. The underlying molecular mechanism has remained unclear due to a lack of structural information. Here, we determine the cryo-EM structure of C.elegans SSNA-1 at 4.55-Å resolution and evaluate its role in embryonic development. We find that SSNA-1 forms an anti-parallel coiled-coil, with self-assembly facilitated by an overhang of 16 C-terminal residues that form a triple-stranded helical junction. The microtubule-binding region is within the triple-stranded junction, suggesting that self-assembly of SSNA-1 creates hubs for effective microtubule interaction. Genetical analysis elucidates that SSNA-1 deletion significantly reduces …

Grey Swan is a relatively new construct that has not been adequately operationalised in supply chain management research. This work provides a supply chain management explanation and perspective on Grey Swans by distinguishing their characteristics relative to their more inconspicuous kindred, the Black Swans. Predictability and consequences are used to differentiate between the types of risk represented by black and grey swan events, as these are precursors to a set of descriptive and prescriptive (normative) views resulting from two pilot studies. Pilot studies were conducted to establish the validity and reliability of four types of supply chain disruptions comprising: labour …

Exploring The Perceptions Of Organizational Justice Issues On Job Satisfaction And Organizational Commitment Of State Prison Staff, Stefani Trajceski
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
High turnover among correctional staff is a persistent challenge faced by institutions across the United States. Previous research has identified various factors influencing staff turnover intentions, with perceptions of fairness in the workplace playing a key role. Organizational justice theory offers a valuable framework for understanding how these perceptions influence job satisfaction and organizational commitment—factors linked to lower absenteeism and turnover intentions, as well as improved job performance and work-life balance. However, limited qualitative research has explored how these dynamics shape correctional staff experiences within state correctional facilities. The purpose of this study was to examine how correctional staff in …

Orbital Maneuvers And Interplanetary Trajectory Design Via Reinforcement Learning, Roberto Cuéllar Rangel
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
This dissertation investigates the application of reinforcement learning (RL) to the design and optimization of low-thrust spacecraft trajectories, with an emphasis on autonomy, adaptability, and robustness in the presence of system uncertainties and unmodeled perturbations. Classical approaches to low-thrust trajectory design are predominantly grounded in optimal control theory, which relies on the availability of precise dynamical models and often requires problem-specific reformulation and solver tuning. While optimal control methods offer high accuracy under deterministic conditions, their sensitivity to stochastic disturbances and computational limitations in highly nonlinear or uncertain environments pose significant challenges for future autonomous space missions.

Towards A Modular Compliant Actuator Toolkit, Oliver Smith, Swen E. Gaudl, Pablo Borja
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
Compliant Actuators differ from traditional Servo Actuators via the ability to sense and control for forces, in addition to position and velocity. A multitude of concepts exist: force-torque control of brushless DC motors, Series Elastic Actuators (SEAs) featuring a physical elastic element, and Variable Stiffness Actuators (VSA), which use a stiffness control mechanism to modulate the physical stiffness of the elastic element. However, due to the complexity, variety, and prohibitive cost of parts and fabrication, there is a lack of reproduction, which hinders the, development, adoption, and application of such devices. This paper introduces the concept of a Modular Compliant …

The Impact Of Tuition Assistance On Employee Retention: Cybersecurity Employee Perceptions Of National Security Agency’S College Tuition Assistance Program, Marta I. Benitez-Guzman
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
U.S. employers spend considerable sums on employee skill development, including investments in college tuition assistance programs (CTAP). Based on a review of recent literature, measuring employer return on investment can be difficult. The literature contained varying results on the effectiveness of employer-provided incentives on retention decisions and provided insufficient empirical or evaluative data on employee perceptions and the influence on retention. The purpose of this qualitative evaluative case study was to examine how cybersecurity employees at the National Security Agency (NSA) who participated in CTAP (2019–2023) perceived the program's effect on their career development and retention decisions. The theoretical framework …
