IASDR Conference Series
This research explores the potential of semantic sonification as a method to enhance the interpretation of abstract visual art in exhibition contexts. By translating contextual elements—such as historical background, artistic intent, and socio-political context—into structured musical layers, the study investigates whether system-generated music can support meaning-making and emotional engagement among viewers. A custom interactive system was developed to capture visual artworks, analyze their semantic attributes using AI, and generate short musical pieces that evolve in complexity based on user interaction. The study contributes to the field of multisensory exhibition design by proposing a sonification-based approach to enhance art accessibility and …

Circu.Ai: Accelerating Circular Product Design And Material Decision-Making, Ya-Han Li, Yu-Hsuan Wu, Chia-Chen Hu
IASDR Conference Series
Amid global sustainability trends and regulatory pressures, designers require more efficient and credible tools for circular material selection in early-stage product development. Current data sources are fragmented and lack transparency, impeding contextual recommendations and appearance evaluations, which creates a critical bottleneck in implementing circular design. To address this pain point, this study proposes a material selection support prototype that integrates generative AI recommendations with visual simulation. Adopting a three-phase Research-Through-Design (RTD) methodology, we have completed Phase 1. A core functional prototype was developed for preliminary concept validation at an international trade show, where we collected valuable feedback from designers and …

Companion Practice In Between Dogs And Owners; Co-Designing Urine Marking In Urban Space, Oh Hirano, Hinako Makita, Nanako Okusa, Hiroya Tanaka
IASDR Conference Series
Dog marking behavior in urban spaces is problematized as a factor causing corrosion of public property and soil damage. Conventionally, various solutions have been considered for this problem, including the application of repellents and water-flushable toilets for dogs, but all have remained human- centered approaches, consequently reducing dogs' place in urban space. Through four phases of prototyping, this study developed the "Dog-Pee Spot" a product that attracts and aggregates dog marking behavior. The prototyping process revealed complex dog agency where social behavioral patterns of dogs in outdoor spaces intersect with becoming-with owners connected through leashes. Furthermore, in Co-Design practice that …

Ar-Based Community Public Art Design: A Public Participation Perspective, Zane Liu, Tuotuo Yang, Xiaon Ma
IASDR Conference Series
This study investigates the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) into community public art, focusing on both public participation experience and outcomes. A model based on Intrinsic Motivation (IM), Participation Efficacy (PE), and Positive Group Affect (PGA) is tested via SEM to identify key factors influencing engagement and inform design strategies. Hands-on community workshops validate the model’s applicability, while an AHP–TOPSIS framework evaluates and ranks three co-created design proposals. The research provides a public-centered, media-adaptive approach for supporting and enhancing public participation in community art.

IASDR Conference Series
Many wearable products are mass-personalized based on user data and produced through digital fabrication. This approach is known as ultra-personalization. Earlier work on ultra-personalization rarely discusses the perceived opportunities and risks associated with the practice or tools that allow future users to engage in the design process. This project explores the use of Midjourney (generative AI tool) in ultra-personalization for style and the design of garments that embody multiple self- expressions in the context of workwear. Study participants (five future wearers, two fashion designers, a lab manager, and a digital fabrication specialist) iteratively designed workwear with the help of Midjourney. …
Detection Of Breath, Phonation And Cough Sounds Using Sound Feature Vectors And Artificial Neural Networks By Calculating Lung Forced Vital Capacity With Mobile Infrastructures, Edmond Hajrizi
International Journal of Business and Technology
Objective: In this study, it is aimed to calculate the tidal volume capacity with mobile infrastructures and to determine the O2 and CO2 values from breath, phonation and cough sounds with the help of artificial neural networks using voice feature vectors. In addition, it is aimed to develop a method that will enable computation of forced expiratory volume via mobile devices.
Materials and Methods: Since sound disease diagnosis is basically a classification problem, tidal volume classification is considered as a pattern recognition problem. Our automatic O2 and CO2 classification study as a pattern recognition function includes three subcomponents; Identifying and …

Real-Time Preferred Agent Availability Predictions For Enhanced Contact Center Routing, Rajarathinam Chidambaram, Jibin George, Gururaj B T, Riyad Ottayil, Anil Kumar M L
Defensive Publications Series
A novel system and techniques are presented herein for intelligent contact center call routing that leverages a multi-factor, real-time predictive model using live transcript analysis, call complexity, agent historic performance, and scheduling data. When a customer is waiting and their preferred agent is predicted to become available imminently, the system dynamically calculates and applies an optimal wait extension to enable a more meaningful and efficient connection. This approach optimizes routing by combining agent availability forecasting with customer preference and contextual data, resulting in improved call resolution, reduced average handling time, and enhanced customer satisfaction.

Defensive Publications Series
Enforcing complex, team-specific software development rules that are beyond the scope of some static analysis tools can present challenges, and manual review for such rules may be slow and error-prone. The described techniques may address these challenges by employing automated agents powered by large language models within a code review workflow. These agents can be configured with natural language prompts that codify domain-specific knowledge and complex validation logic. When triggered by a code change, an agent can analyze the modification and its relationship to other relevant files in the codebase. This method can provide automated, inline feedback on adherence to …
Time-Series Forecasting Using Dynamic Covariates From Text-Based Event Extraction, Leonid Kuligin, Thomas Zettl
Time-Series Forecasting Using Dynamic Covariates From Text-Based Event Extraction, Leonid Kuligin, Thomas Zettl
Defensive Publications Series
Computer-implemented time-series forecasting systems, such as those executing on a server or distributed computing platform, may have difficulty anticipating demand volatility caused by real-world events due to a potential reliance on historical quantitative data. This disclosure relates to systems and methods for adjusting short-term forecasting by processing unstructured text data, for instance from news articles, to identify and quantify events that could influence future demand. A data processing pipeline can use a large language model to extract event descriptions, generate numerical embeddings for those events, and aggregate them into structured features. These features can then be integrated as dynamic covariates …

Ktkn-Hub: Decentralized Git Hosting Via Ktkn-Os/Automerge And Isomorphic-Git, Matthew D. Judson
Defensive Publications Series
Disclosed is KTKN-HUB, a peer-to-peer (P2P) Git hosting platform utilizing decentralized storage (KTKN-OS) and CRDTs. The core innovation is the direct mapping of the Git object model into the KTKN-OS data fabric. Git objects (Commits, Trees, Blobs) are stored as immutable KTKN-OS documents. Crucially, Git References (Branches, Tags) are implemented as mutable CRDTs (Conflict-Free Replicated Data Types). This enables concurrent updates (pushes) without conflicts, guaranteeing mathematical convergence when peers reconnect. The system implements a novel filesystem adapter (KTKN-FS) that bridges the isomorphic-git library to the KTKN-OS backend, enabling Git operations without a traditional POSIX filesystem.

Deterministic Data Synthesis Pipeline For Multimodal Ai Training (The Trueos-Ktkn Data Engine), Matthew D. Judson
Defensive Publications Series
Disclosed is a system for generating "Golden Master" training datasets for Multimodal Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models. The core innovation is a "Deterministic Render-Capture Loop" that decouples simulation time (simTime) from wall-clock time. The system advances the simulation by a fixed delta ($\Delta t$), renders the state, and captures the frame using WebCodecs, timestamping it with simTime regardless of actual render duration. This guarantees a mathematically perfect framerate and perfect synchronization between video frames and telemetry logs, eliminating the frame drops and jitter inherent in real-time screen recording. The pipeline is orchestrated within the TrueOS/Electron shell, managing the simulation backend (e.g., Python …

Disclosed is the Porcupine Protocol, an automated system for generating and publishing industrial-grade defensive prior art using Local LLMs. The core innovation is the "Algorithmic Jurisprudence" engine (the "Recipe" algorithm), which automates the strategic decision to "File vs. Publish vs. Refactor." The algorithm calculates a Publication Score ($S_{Pub}$) based on weighted variables: Novelty, Detectability, Incumbent Risk, and Abstractness. It applies filters grounded in legal precedents: the "Alice" filter (Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank) assesses abstractness; the "Akamai" filter (Akamai v. Limelight) assesses divided infringement defense potential; and the "Porcupine" trigger initiates publication if $S_{Pub}$ exceeds a threshold. The Local LLM …

Abstract
The global phase-out of leaded gasoline marked a major milestone in pollution control, yet modern uses of lead (Pb) continue to pose significant health risks, especially in low- and middle-income countries. In the Philippines, significant data gaps still exist despite increasing exposure. This study presents to the best of our knowledge, the first Pb isotopic fingerprinting of atmospheric aerosols in Metro Manila, Philippines, covering fine (0.56–1 μm) and coarse (5.6–10 μm) fractions, collected in 2018–2019. Results show that local sources, mainly industrial activities (45–62 %) and fossil fuel combustion (30–45 %), are now the dominant contributors to airborne Pb, …

Ai Companions And The Lessons Of Family Law, Clare Huntington
Ai Companions And The Lessons Of Family Law, Clare Huntington
Minnesota Law Review Vols. 106:2 onward (2021-present)
Virtual friends and lovers powered by artificial intelligence are rapidly moving to the center of our emotional and social lives. Millions of people turn to AI companions every day for conversation, romance, sexual intimacy, therapy, and education. AI companionship holds promise, potentially reducing loneliness, supporting people without access to mental health treatment, helping students learn, and offering a judgment-free space for sensitive conversations. But AI companionship also raises significant concerns. The technology’s addictiveness may exacerbate loneliness and can undermine human relationships. Therapy bots may prove more harmful than helpful. AI companions can be emotionally abusive. And their access to the …
Securitizing The University, Maryam Jamshidi
Securitizing The University, Maryam Jamshidi
Minnesota Law Review Vols. 106:2 onward (2021-present)
Since October 7, 2023, public and private actors have doubled down on efforts to securitize the American university. In large part, these initiatives aim to quash a vocal pro-Palestine movement that has become highly visible across U.S. campuses since October 7th. In targeting this group, these efforts have variously treated the university as an “object” of national security, namely, as a potential site of national security risk, while simultaneously encouraging or pressuring universities to “participate” in national security, namely, by actively and, in many cases, voluntarily furthering U.S. national security objectives. The university’s status as object of and participant in …

Low Power Magnetically Shielded Krypton Hall Thruster Design, Grace Klang
Honors Theses
This project investigates the design and modeling of a low-power Hall-Effect Thruster optimized for krypton propellant, serving as a continuation of Western Michigan University’s Hall thruster development series. Krypton is selected as an alternative to xenon due to its significantly lower cost and increased availability, though its higher ionization energy and reduced atomic mass introduce performance, ionization, and efficiency challenges that must be addressed through careful design. The goal of this study is to design two 300-W class thrusters capable of achieving high efficiency and long operational life on krypton propellant while maintaining full compatibility with existing laboratory facilities and …
T Cell Senescence And Nociplastic Pain: A Proposed Etiological Mechanism, Kayla S. Riggleman
T Cell Senescence And Nociplastic Pain: A Proposed Etiological Mechanism, Kayla S. Riggleman
Senior Honors Theses
Nociplastic pain is a newly identified chronic pain phenotype characterized by widespread hyperalgesia and allodynia. Its etiological mechanisms are currently unknown, making medical intervention elusive. The proposed pathophysiological model connects immunosenescence with a degradation of the blood-brain barrier as a result of peripheral inflammation. Neuronal hyperexcitability and glial cell activation result, leading to nociplastic pain. It is currently thought that central sensitization is the key mechanistic driver of nociplastic pain, so this literature review seeks to expound on that. Based on this framework, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy and stem cell treatments are proposed therapeutic methodologies to be explored. …

Edna Surveys For The Critically Endangered Caribbean Staghorn Coral, Acropora Cervicornis (Lamarck, 1816), Pari Elaine Cribbins
All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations
Historically, Acropora cervicornis was a dominant coral on Caribbean reef systems, but an outbreak of white band disease in the late 1970s marked the beginning of devastating, multi-decadal population declines that led to the coral being listed as “critically endangered” on the IUCN Red List in 2022. Today, after a record-setting marine heat wave in 2023 triggered a mass bleaching event on Florida’s Coral Reef (FCR), A. cervicornis is considered functionally extinct on the FCR. While individuals of A. cervicornis do remain on the FCR, the small population size of the coral makes in situ surveys difficult. However, surveys using …
A Burlesque: The Shimmering Body Of Revealing, Lola Montgomery
A Burlesque: The Shimmering Body Of Revealing, Lola Montgomery
Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai
A Burlesque: The Shimmer Manuscript is a hybrid critical–creative work that examines burlesque as an embodied methodology and a mode of knowledge production. Drawing from my two decades as a performer–scholar, the work reframes glamour, desire, and adornment as epistemological practices rather than theatrical ornamentation. The project is significant in that it expands understandings of performance studies, autotheory, and feminist aesthetics by foregrounding the performer’s body as an intelligent, sensing, world-making apparatus.
The methodology is creative practice research and archive-driven, integrating backstage documentation, AI-assisted photomontage, and theoretical reflection. The work draws from poststructuralist and feminist frameworks (Irigaray, Deleuze & Guattari, …

Early Life And Post-Traumatic Growth Among Urban African Americans, J. Howard Streeter Iii
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Post-traumatic growth (PTG) has received increasing attention in psychological research, yet the PTG experiences of African Americans remain underexplored. Trauma researchers have established the common prevalence of trauma within this population, but there have been very few studies on how African Americans traverse trauma according to PTG. Understanding PTG in this population is essential for clergy, coaches, parents, counselors, and others who work in these communities. The purpose of this quantitative survey study was to determine whether there was a statistically significant relationship between rumination, religious orientation, religious commitment, and stressful life events (SLEs) and PTG among urban African American …
Ctrl + Alt + Inner Speech: A Verbal–Cognitive Scaffold (Vcs) Model Of Pathways To Computational Thinking, Daisuke Akiba
Ctrl + Alt + Inner Speech: A Verbal–Cognitive Scaffold (Vcs) Model Of Pathways To Computational Thinking, Daisuke Akiba
Publications and Research
This theoretical paper introduces the Verbal–Cognitive Scaffold (VCS) Model, a cognitively inclusive framework which proposes the cognitive architectures underlying computational thinking (CT). Moving beyond monolithic theories of cognition (e.g., executive-function and metacognitive control models), the VCS Model posits inner speech (InSp) as the predominant cognitive pathway supporting CT operations in neurotypical populations. Synthesizing interdisciplinary scholarship across cognitive science, computational theory, neurodiversity research, and others, this framework articulates distinct mechanisms through which InSp supports CT. The model specifies four primary pathways linking InSp to CT components: verbal working memory supporting decomposition, symbolic representation facilitating pattern recognition and abstraction, sequential processing enabling …
