In recent years, Guayaquil fell prey to higher levels of organized extortion compared to territorialized criminal organizations over territory, institutional weaknesses, and socio-spatial inequalities. Thus, while extortion emerged as an increasingly specialized crime, there are limited empirical studies to evaluate the crime's spatiotemporal nature or its determinants. Therefore, this study aims to identify and characterize extortion "criminal severity zones" of Guayaquil from 2021-2024, via a novel geostatistical approach, in addition to the Neutrosophic Analytic Hierarchy Process (NAHP). By implementing Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA), Kernel Density Estimation (KDE), dimensionality reduction techniques (PCA, MDS, and t-SNE), hierarchical clustering, and Bayesian hierarchical …

Literacy is acquired in multigrade classrooms in complicated scenarios because of varying literacy competencies and abilities and varied resources and materials. Thus, it's hard to determine if certain teaching interventions work. This is also a growing concern, a timely consideration, because as the institutions try to better the Quality of Education and prevent learning lags for multivariate classrooms are concerned. Yet the literature contains gaps where no direct attempt to stabilize teaching interventions is made despite the findings of many studies generating didactic interventions through the proceedings. Thus, this study fills the gap with an approach based upon hypothesis generation …

he invention of pottery played a crucial role in human history, promoting human settlement and the transition to an agricultural society [1,2]. Pottery first emerged in East Asia during the Late Pleistocene/Paleolithic across a diverse range of environmental settings, becoming more widespread with the climatic warming of the Holocene/Neolithic [3]. The relatively cold Mongolian Plateau was a key region for early human adaptation. Here, numerous archaeological sites have been discovered since the Upper Palaeolithic, including the earliest pottery sites dating back to approximately 12,000 years ago in the northern areas [4,5]. However, no pottery sites predating 10,000 cal a BP …

Replacement And Reputation, Navin Kartik, Elliot Lipnowski, Harry Pei
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
Does electoral replacement ensure that officeholders eventually act in voters’ interests? We study a reputational model of accountability. Voters observe incumbents’ performance and decide whether to replace them. Politicians may be “good” types who always exert effort or opportunists who may shirk. We find that good long-run outcomes are always attainable, though the mechanism and its robustness depend on economic conditions. In environments conducive to incentive provision, some equilibria feature sustained effort, yet others exhibit some long-run shirking. In the complementary case, opportunists are never fully disciplined, but selection dominates: every equilibrium eventually settles on a good politician, yielding permanent …

This comparative study examines patterns of Large Language Model (LLM) weaponization through systematic analysis of four major exploitation incidents spanning 2023-2025. While existing research focuses on isolated incidents or theoretical vulnerabilities, this study provides the first comprehensive comparative framework analyzing exploitation patterns across state-sponsored cyber-espionage (Anthropic Claude incident), academic security research (GPT-4 autonomous privilege escalation), social engineering platforms (SpearBot phishing framework), and underground criminal commoditization (WormGPT/FraudGPT ecosystem). Through comparative analysis across eight dimensions—adversary sophistication, target selection, exploitation techniques, autonomy levels, detection evasion, attribution challenges, defensive gaps, and capability democratization—this research identifies critical cross-case patterns informing defensive prioritization. Findings reveal three …

Effective Hamiltonian calculations for large quantum systems can be both analytically intractable and numerically expensive using standard techniques. In this manuscript, we present numerical techniques inspired by Nonperturbative Analytical Diagonalization (NPAD) and the Magnus expansion for the efficient calculation of effective Hamiltonians. While these tools are appropriate for a wide array of applications, we here demonstrate their utility for models that can be realized in circuit-QED settings. Our numerical techniques are available as an opensource Python package, qCHeff, which is available on GitHub (https://github.com/ NVlabs/qCHeff) and PyPI (https://pypi.org/ project/qcheff/). We use the CuPy library for GPU-acceleration …

Car-T Cell Therapy Milestones In Treating Hematologic Malignancies, Dusit Jit-Ueakul, Piyanuch Kongtim
Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine
Chimeric Antigen Receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy has emerged as a revolutionary treatment modality for hematologic malignancies, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). This innovative approach involves the genetic engineering of a patient's own T lymphocytes to express chimeric antigen receptors (CARs), which enables these cells to specifically recognize and eliminate malignant cells expressing target antigens. Clinical trials have demonstrated remarkable efficacy, with significant rates of complete remission and durable responses observed in patients who have relapsed or are refractory to conventional therapies. As advancements in CAR technology continue, there is potential for …
Elucidating The Role Of Pbaf Chromatin Remodeling Subunit Arid2 In B Cell Development, Rachel Paolini
Elucidating The Role Of Pbaf Chromatin Remodeling Subunit Arid2 In B Cell Development, Rachel Paolini
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
B cells are key components of the adaptive immune system that mediate humoral immunity through the production of antigen-specific antibodies. The generation of functional B cells involves multiple stages of differentiation across distinct anatomical niches, requiring precise regulation of microenvironmental signals and intrinsic transcriptional networks. SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes have emerged as key regulators of B cell lineage commitment by modulating the accessibility of transcriptional programs required for differentiation and maturation. However, the specific roles of individual SWI/SNF subunits and distinct complexes within early B cell differentiation remain poorly understood. In this thesis, I investigated the function of Arid2, an …
The Negotiation Of Identities Through Humorous Discourse In Political Resistance: An Analysis Of Bassem Youssef's 'The B+ Show', Howaida Aref
Theses and Dissertations
This study examines the strategic use of humorous discourse in negotiating identities and expressing political resistance during the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, focusing on Bassem Youssef's satirical YouTube show, "The B+ Show." Employing a mixed-method approach that combines Grice's maxims of cooperative communication and Fairclough's critical discourse analysis framework, the research investigates how humor functioned as a tool for challenging hegemonic narratives and power dynamics through constructing and deconstructing identities in a volatile sociopolitical context. The analysis reveals that Youssef skillfully exploited various discursive resources, particularly intertextuality and the flouting of conversational maxims, to generate implicatures that effectively debunked negative representations …

Student loyalty in higher education represents a critical challenge for universities, particularly in the context of increasing competition and the need to ensure long-term retention. A key question arises: how can student loyalty be modeled when it is shaped by diverse and subjective perceptions? The relevance of this issue lies in its impact on institutional stability: when students withdraw before completing their programs, universities not only lose projected revenue but also face disruptions that may negatively influence academic rankings. Previous literature has explored drivers of satisfaction and determinants of loyalty; however, little attention has been given to approaches that explicitly …
Lattice Thermal Transport Beyond The Quasiparticle Approximation: Nontrivial Spectral Competition Between Three- And Four-Phonon Interactions, Yi Xia
Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations
The breakdown of the quasiparticle approximation (QPA) for phonons in strongly anharmonic materials necessitates advanced first-principles frameworks for accurate lattice dynamics and thermal transport predictions. We develop a comprehensive beyond-quasiparticle approximation (BQPA) approach incorporating both three- (3ph) and four-phonon (4ph) interactions and apply it to investigate lattice thermal conductivity (κL) in MgO, PbTe, and AgCl – materials that span a broad spectrum of anharmonicity, from weak to severe anharmonic regimes with overdamped phonons. We reveal that while BQPA consistently increases κL relative to QPA due to phonon softening when considering only 3ph interactions, the inclusion of additional 4ph interactions hardens …

Scientific production is a key performance indicator in higher education, which has motivated the search for factors that may influence its development. This study aims to analyze the impact of intellectual capital and organizational climate on scientific production at the National Intercultural University of the Amazon in Peru. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is used, with a sample consisting of 90 professors. Professors were surveyed using the neutrosophic 2-tuple linguistics model. The neutrosophic 2-tuple linguistic method allows teachers to express their opinions linguistically, which is more appropriate in complex decision-making situations. This method maintains accuracy in aggregations. Furthermore, …

A Neutrosophic Random Forest Approach For Preeclamptic Risk Prediction With Uncertainty Quantification, Franklin Parrales-Bravo, Rosangela Caicedo-Quiroz, Lorenzo Cevallos-Torres, Leonel Vasquez-Cevallos, Dayron Rumbaut-Rangel
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study presents a novel integration of Random Forest with neutrosophic logic to improve preeclampsia risk prediction while quantifying prediction uncertainty. Using clinical data from 352 patients, the model achieved 72.73% accuracy with high sensitivity (0.898) in identifying control cases, though with lower specificity (0.235) for preeclampsia detection. Key predictors identified were birthweight and hypertension his- tory, aligning with clinical knowledge. The neutrosophic framework successfully categorized predictions into truth (T), indeterminacy (I), and falsity (F) components, revealing that 90% confidence predictions showed T = 0.9 while uncertain cases (0.5 ≤ p < 0.9) demonstrated elevated indeterminacy (I = 0.3). The main contributions include: 1) an interpretable uncertainty quantification method for clinical predictions, 2) validation of key risk factors through feature importance analysis, and 3) a practical framework for identifying cases requiring additional clinical evaluation. This approach demonstrates significant potential for enhancing decision-making in maternal healthcare.

This dissertation answers a problem of practice. What is the effect of Universal Design for Learning on equity and achievement in math for at-risk and special needs upper elementary and secondary students in Ecuador? classrooms are more diverse than ever, with variations in learning styles and the expectation of equity in the classroom. Thus, it's critical to address past and present methods of teaching that promote access and participation. While the implementation of Universal Design for Learning is relatively new to the inclusion game, the studies done thus far fail to incorporate a triangulated design that considers complexity, multivariate factors, …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study intends to analyze the impact of not appearing as a legal consequence of the Ecuadorian oral system; in what way does it violate rights of the parties and the possibility of effective judicial protection? The study was developed through a mixed methodology, bibliographic-documentary design and empirical field study. Ultimately, Multineutrosophic modeling was used to limit uncertainty brought forth by establishing not appearing as a condition with lawyer presence, granted extensions or not, socioeconomic problems, etc., through a triangulation of findings from regulatory sources like the General Organic Code of Procedures (COGEP) and professionalizing interviews with judicial actors. Hyperbolic Geometry And Neutrosophic Trigonometry: A Unified Approach To Uncertainty Management In Geometric Spaces, Yismandry González Vargas, Diana Padrón Carrasco
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This paper addresses the challenge of modeling uncertainty in hyperbolic geometry, where non-Euclidean properties, such as angle sums in triangles smaller than 180°, complicate traditional trigonometric calculations. The relevance of this topic lies in its application in fields such as cosmology, robotics, and signal processing, where curved spaces and imprecision are common. Although the literature has explored fuzzy geometry and trigonometry under uncertainty, it lacks a framework that integrates negative curvature with explicit indeterminacy. To overcome this gap, a methodology is proposed that combines hyperbolic geometry with neutrosophic trigonometry, using neutrosophic sets (T, I, F) to represent angles and calculate …

In a digital world where scientific articles are published at an unprecedented rate, an additional step in the research process to facilitate discovery is an effective search and filtering for worthwhile articles. Thus, this study aims to solve the following research problem: how to search for scientific articles using artificial intelligence (AI) while applying ethical considerations and ancestral knowledge? The topical relevance is that as AI is a great vessel to seek potentially accessible knowledge, searches can be guaranteed through accuracy, inclusivity, and ethics. While many studies exist on the topic of AI related to searching, few, if any, extend …

Faim: Fuzzy‑Neutrosophic Academic Integrity Model For University Students, Elsy Rodriguez Revelo, Lorenzo Cevallos Torres
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The FAIM (Fuzzy-Neutrosophic Academic Integrity Model) is a novel approach developed to assess academic integrity among university students under conditions of uncertainty. This model emerged as a response to the challenges posed by the sudden shift from face-to-face to virtual education during the COVID-19 pandemic. This environment saw a notable increase in dishonest academic behavior. FAIM integrates fuzzy logic and neutrosophic reasoning to capture the complexity and indeterminacy of students’ conduct. Key variables associated with academic dishonesty—motivation, justification, and opportunities—were examined across three simulated scenarios. The results validated FAIM’s capacity to differentiate integrity levels within the student population effectively. Unlike …

Perceptions Of Inclusion In Disability Communication With Plithogenic Fuzzy Soft Sets, Sonia Guerra Iglesias, Andrea Eugenia Pacheco Lemus, Vallardo Villegas-Ricauter, Lorena Del Carmen Bodero Arizaga, Luis Enrique Silva Adriano
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This article explores how scientific communication with disability can foster social inclusion through an awareness of the challenge of conveying ambiguous perceptions across fields. This is a timely topic because inclusive communication facilitates equity and subsequent participation in academic and socio-cultural settings by persons with disabilities; however, the existing body of literature does not take an approach that represents an intrinsic indeterminacy of human perceptions. Absent this intrinsic human quality, research results oversimplify abilities and failures to include persons with disabilities. My approach fulfills this gap by using plitogenic fuzzy soft sets, which is a more generalized mathematical construct to …

Ultra-high pressure (UHP) metamorphism is difficult to identify in continental crust as few petrological barometers are suitable for dominantly felsic lithologies. In such cases, burial to extreme depths is commonly identified through the preservation of coesite, a high-pressure polymorph of SiO 2 that typically forms at depths exceeding ∼ 100 km (i.e., > 2 GPa pressure). Unfortunately, coesite readily transforms to quartz upon exhumation, meaning that UHP terranes may often be overlooked. While some studies have suggested that quartz may inherit an orientation signature indicative of former coesite, both the specific nature of this signature and the conditions favouring its development …

The Impact Of Screen Time Patterns On Digital Behaviour And Productivity: A Data Analytics Study Across Age Groups, Maytha Alshamsi
The Impact Of Screen Time Patterns On Digital Behaviour And Productivity: A Data Analytics Study Across Age Groups, Maytha Alshamsi
Theses
The increasing incidence of screen time of all ages has generated a greater interest in the effect of screens on the human psyche. This paper looks at behavioural data of 2, 000 individuals aged 13-64 to investigate the predictability of a composite mental- health score by various modalities of screen-time, lifestyle and psychological charac- teristics. We determine, based on exploratory statistics, multivariate regression and su- pervised machine-learned models, that in as much as the influence of total screen time and social-media consumption has significant relationships with worse mental health, the effects are small when juxtaposed to those of lifestyle and …

Investigating Ionic Liquid (Il)-Based Electrolytes In Li-Co2 Battery Performance, Kaden T. Gammon
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
This report discusses the results of an independent study that investigates the impact of ionic-liquid (IL) based electrolytes on Li-CO₂ battery performance. Three electrolytes were compared in this study at two temperatures: room temperature and 60 °C. The electrolytes tested were BMIM-DMSO (an IL-based electrolyte), TEGDME, and DMSO. The results indicate that the IL-based electrolyte enables better electrochemical reactions and achieves a higher discharge capacity than the other two electrolytes. This study also compared cathodes with different catalysts, emphasizing the importance of catalyst choice. The comparison showed that bismuth oxide combined with Vulcan carbon may serve as a strong catalyst …

PPAP integrates lattice-based cryptographic primitives, particularly Module-Lattice Key Encapsulation Mechanisms (ML-KEM), addressing both quantum computing threats and stringent privacy requirements. The protocol introduces advanced identity masking techniques and a multi-factor authentication layer employing Cheon-Kim-Kim-Song (CKKS) homomorphic encryption, enabling secure and privacy-aware authentication that supports approximate knowledge-based factors such as biometrics and handwritten signatures. Rigorous formal analysis, including cryptographic proofs and automated verification using the Tamarin Prover, validates PPAP's resilience against classical and quantum adversaries, as well as common security threats such as replay attacks, impersonation, and …

Modern video codecs rely on highly optimized block based intra and inter prediction frameworks, in which block partitioning is determined through exhaustive rate distortion optimization (RDO) searches. These exhaustive searches evaluate many possible block configurations to identify the partitioning that minimizes overall rate distortion cost, and they have proven extremely effective across diverse visual content. This thesis explores a complementary perspective by investigating whether block partitioning can be guided more directly by content characteristics specifically, texture complexity for intra prediction and motion complexity or motion density for inter prediction. For intra prediction, we introduce a texture adaptive approach that utilizes …

Growing strawberries in soilless substrates in the greenhouse relies on fertilizers and supplemental light to boost yield and fruit quality. The research evaluated the properties of the biofertilizer and its effectiveness on the yield of Japanese strawberry cultivars Nanatsuboshi and KS-75 under controlled greenhouse conditions, with and without light-emitting diodes (LED) as supplemental light. The cell viability and plant-growth-promoting properties of a liquid consortium biofertilizer consisting of nitrogen-fixing bacteria and phosphate-solubilizing microbes, were characterized. Laboratory analysis confirmed the biofertilizer's composition, and a greenhouse experiment using a completely randomized design tested treatments of biofertilizer, LED, and their combination. The biofertilizer contained …
