Macroscopic And In-Situ Atr-Ftir Spectroscopic Studies Of Metformin Adsorption On Soil, Maheen Mehnaz
Tennessee State University Alumni Theses and Dissertations
Emerging contaminants might pose serious threats to the soil and water environment. Metformin, an emerging micropollutant, is one of the most widely used drugs for type-2 diabetes treatment. However, its waste disposal through human excretion is causing environmental concern to the soil and water environment. Yet, knowledge about the interaction mechanism of metformin with soil remains very limited. In this study, we evaluated metformin adsorption mechanisms on model oxide minerals (gibbsite, hematite) and two Tennessee soils (Milan Loring soil and Cheatham County soil) and in the presence of soil micronutrient (molybdenum) using in situ attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared …

Developing Four-In-One Genetic Engineering System To Improve Production Of Bioenergy In Sorghum, Oluchukwu Jecinta Onyemaobi
Tennessee State University Alumni Theses and Dissertations
Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) is a C4 crop of significant agricultural and industrial importance, known for its high biomass yield, drought tolerance, and adaptability to marginal lands. However, the high lignocellulosic biomass content of sorghum, particularly its lignin component, poses a significant challenge for efficient biomass conversion. Genetic engineering offers a powerful approach to achieve such improvements by targeting the modification of lignin biosynthetic pathways. However, progress in sorghum genetic improvement has been hindered by the crop’s recalcitrance to genetic manipulation, transformation, and regeneration. To overcome these limitations, we developed a four-in-one genetic engineering technology for sorghum by establishing an …

Conversational Agent For Orchestrating Physical Fulfillment Of Generative Ai Outputs, Lance Nanek
Conversational Agent For Orchestrating Physical Fulfillment Of Generative Ai Outputs, Lance Nanek
Defensive Publications Series
The creation of digital assets using generative machine learning models can be disconnected from the process of producing a corresponding physical object, potentially involving manual file transfers between separate platforms. The systems and methods describe a conversational agent that can orchestrate a digital-to-physical fulfillment pipeline. This agent can parse user dialogue to distinguish between creative prompts for generating a digital asset and commands for its physical production. Upon receiving a fulfillment request, an orchestration engine can analyze the asset to select a suitable fabrication method and a production partner, which may include third-party vendors or a user’s local hardware. This …

Countersink Tribometry On Formed Can Ends: A Geometry-Aware Friction And Wear Test Method, Eric Norton, Juraj Liska
Defensive Publications Series
Formed beverage can ends present a small‑radius countersink where coating lubricity and integrity strongly influence panel fracture risk, yet there is no widely used, geometry‑specific post‑form friction test. Here we provide a practical test method that addresses this gap by using a precision tribometer (e.g., an Rtec MFT5000) fitted with custom fixturing that mounts a can end concentrically on a rotating stage and positions a 1/8 inch (3.175 mm) spherical ball on a pin set at 45 degrees to contact a defined locus on the countersink. The setup supports both rotational motion at controlled revolutions per minute (RPM) and linear …

The Analysis And Design Of A Circular Waveguide Coated With A Magnetized Ferrite, Hassan Ali Ragheb, Mariam Hossam
The Analysis And Design Of A Circular Waveguide Coated With A Magnetized Ferrite, Hassan Ali Ragheb, Mariam Hossam
Electrical Engineering
Abstract: This paper investigates the cut-off frequency of a perfectly conducting circular waveguide coated with an externally magnetized ferrite shell. Wave equations in both the ferrite shell and the core inside the cylinder are solved resulting in a Fourier series expansions involving Bessel and trigonometric functions with unknown coefficients. The influence of the magnetization current on the permeability tensor is considered in the analysis. By applying boundary conditions, four characteristic equations are derived, and their vanishing determinants define the cut-off frequencies of the structure. A MATLAB program is developed to numerically solve the derived equations. Results are presented for various …
Experimental And Theoretical Characterization Of Molten Salt Thermal Conductivity, Jacob C. Numbers
Experimental And Theoretical Characterization Of Molten Salt Thermal Conductivity, Jacob C. Numbers
Theses and Dissertations
Molten salts form an ideal heat transfer fluid for advanced energy generation systems, including molten salt reactors (MSR). Accurate characterization of molten salt thermal conductivity is needed to confidently predict transient thermal behavior and optimize salt properties. Measurements are hindered by salts' challenging material properties, which---in the case of the needle probe device---induced unaccounted physical changes that limited its accuracy and repeatability. Sparse thermal conductivity data in general is exacerbated by a limited fundamental understanding of molecular energy transfer in liquids. This work extends the experimental capacity for compositional studies using the needle probe and proposes a theoretical model for …

Who Gets Remembered? Structural Barriers In The National Register Of Historic Places, Yuha Jung, Lauren Smith Madden
Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy
This article examines the systemic barriers within the National Register of Historic Places, established under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, that have contributed to the underrepresentation of marginalized communities in historic preservation. Despite the United States’ diverse cultural heritage, only an estimated 3% to 10% of sites listed on the National Register reflect histories associated with racial and ethnic minority groups. Through a qualitative analysis of legislative history, federal regulations, nomination processes, and governance structures, this study identifies how key criteria such as “significance” and “integrity” have reinforced exclusionary practices. These criteria consistently prioritize architectural and tangible heritage …
