Esr1 Fusions In Breast Cancer: Functions, Mechanisms And Therapeutic Opportunities, Xuxu Gou, Zoya Farooqui, Charles E Foulds
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
Approximately 70% of all breast cancers are driven by estrogen receptor-alpha (ERα) that binds the predominant circulating female estrogen, 17ꞵ-estradiol (E2). Because of this, drugs collectively termed “endocrine therapy (ET)” that either suppress E2 level or inhibit the activity of ERα have been used as first-line therapy. While initially effective, resistance to ET drugs occurs with subsequent lethal metastasis. The most common genetic alterations are point mutations in the ESR1 gene within the last exon encoding the ligand-binding domain (LBD), resulting in constitutively active ERα proteins. Recently, new oral selective estrogen receptor degraders (SERDs) that effectively target these point mutants …

Hyperscalers In The Heartland: How A Climate-First Framework Can Incentivize Sustainable Data Center Development And Grid Decarbonization, Eli Dotson
Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology
This Note proceeds in three parts. Part II surveys the rise of AI and hyperscale data centers, the technical and legal challenges their loads pose, and the evolving policy landscape, both nationwide and in Minnesota. Part III argues that Minnesota should build on its emerging data center framework in two ways. First, the PUC should institutionalize the framework’s most promising features by setting a “clean energy floor” to ensure that data centers contribute to, rather than prevent, the decarbonization of Minnesota’s grid. Second, the PUC should create an additional “distributed flexibility pathway” by forcing utilities to consider alternative ways of …
Sound Of NangqêN, Jiayue Cecilia Wu
Sound Of NangqêN, Jiayue Cecilia Wu
Journal of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction
Tape Piece is part of a series of single-sound-source daydream pieces, where a solitary object or family of objects is repurposed to create an otherworldly soundscape. This work uses tape--masking, scotch, aluminum, packing, and duct--sometimes recognizable, and sometimes heavily processed. The familiar is juxtaposed with the fresh, and what starts out with unrolling and tearing quickly unravels as sounds evocative of gunfire, of bombs and explosions, and of Geiger counters suggesting the downfall of civilization. New creatures emerge throughout, each trying to find their place in a world that has come unglued.

(En)Gendering Capacity: Neoliberalism, Empowerment, And Responsibility For Women In The Un’S Capacity Building Agenda, Sabrina K. Harris
Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis
This article analyzes how the UN constructs capacity building as an element of its development agenda. It theorizes that the UN operates as a governmental actor, adopting and pursuing a political rationality of good governance, while also navigating structural limitations to its organizational authority in implementing this agenda imposed by the liberal international order. As such, this article argues capacity building emerges as a valuable technology of development for several reasons: firstly, it operates as an individual-level intervention, circumventing UN limitations on authority in mandating state action, and secondly, it is framed as demand-driven and empowering while delivering on the …

The Present Interregnum: The Ultra-Right Revolution, María Pía Lara
Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis
This paper deals with recent political consequences of presentism as conceptualized by the historian Francois Hartog. It clarifies how our experiences of time and history have enlarged the present and the past and have almost disappeared the future (except for catastrophic views). The consequences of these changes in the experiences reflect profound changes in expectations about the future, and how this regime of historicity allows people to become disoriented. They were moved into the margins of precarity. As a result, many of their views on politics find resonance redesigned by the distorted narratives of ultra-right leaders who blame those who …

Biofilm-Associated Infections: Mechanisms Of Formation, Resistance, And Emerging Therapeutic Strategies With Special Focus On Biofilm Inhibitors, Karem Ibrahem
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Medical Sciences
Biofilms are complex, structured microbial communities enclosed within a self-produced extracellular matrix. This matrix allows them to adhere to a variety of surfaces, including medical devices and human tissues. The formation of biofilms poses a significant challenge in clinical settings due to their inherent resistance to antibiotics and to host immune defenses, thereby contributing to the persistence and chronicity of infections. In recent years, considerable attention has been directed towards the development of biofilm inhibitors as a promising therapeutic strategy to prevent biofilm formation, disrupt established biofilms, and enhance the susceptibility of biofilm-embedded bacteria to conventional antibiotics. The aim of …

CUNY Mexican Studies Institute
This research aims to uncover systemic factors that limit career stability for young adults in the Bronx. In this paper, I focus on unequal access to educational resources, economic inequality, and the digital divide as connected barriers that shape the quality of education and training youth receive, the resources and networks they have access to, and the opportunities they can realistically maintain over time. Based on a review of public data, media reports and the current literature, I argue that job instability in the Bronx is a structural problem. At the same time, this project pushes back against the assumption …

Lost In Ambiguity: Ai And The Limits Of Processing Turkish Morphology, Engin Evrim Önem
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Despite rapid progress in natural language processing, artificial intelligence (AI) systems continue to struggle with languages characterized by high morphological complexity, such as Turkish. A central difficulty lies in their limited ability to resolve ambiguity, which is deeply embedded in Turkish through features like flexible word order, extensive case marking, and agglutinative structures. Current AI models, primarily shaped by exposure to massive corpora of performance data, excel at detecting surface-level statistical regularities but fall short of grasping the grammatical principles and semantic nuances that underpin genuine linguistic competence. This reliance on performance over competence makes disambiguation especially problematic, as the …

Moving From Feasible Solutions To Sustainable Systems In The Built Environment, Mohammed Ali Berawi, Mustika Sari, Perdana Miraj
CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development
The built environment plays a crucial role in global sustainability efforts. Buildings, infrastructure, and cities consume large amounts of energy and materials that shape social behavior, and lock in environmental impacts.
