Development Of Multimodal Measurements And Analysis For Early Detection Of Alzheimer’S Disease, Fiza Saeed Jan 2026

Development Of Multimodal Measurements And Analysis For Early Detection Of Alzheimer’S Disease, Fiza Saeed

Bioengineering Dissertations

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia, and existing diagnostic methods such as PET scans, cerebrospinal fluid sampling and biomarker quantification, and gene sequencing are all either invasive, costly, or not sensitive enough for early detection. This dissertation introduces three different studies that develop a novel multimodal, non-invasive approach to diagnosing AD at its early stages by combining broad band near infrared spectroscopy (bbNIRS) and electroencephalography (EEG) technologies.

The first study showed cerebrovascular-cerebrospinal fluid coupling (CBV-CSF), which is measured by using 2-channel bbNIRS as an indicator of brain aging and early AD. Linear correlations between total blood (Δ[HbT]) …

Further, this article will explore different outcomes regarding parallel litigation at the Commission and District Courts, including what remedies are available and the effect of duplicative and inconsistent determinations on the patentee. In light of these comparisons, this article will provide suggestions on how to minimize inconsistencies between the Commission and District Courts, with particular emphasis on determining if some middle ground exists and if a classification system could be …

Modern Privacy, Outdated Doctrine: A Four-Factor Approach To Fourth Amendment Analysis, Ilinca Slabu Jan 2026

Modern Privacy, Outdated Doctrine: A Four-Factor Approach To Fourth Amendment Analysis, Ilinca Slabu

Washington Law Review Online

The Fourth Amendment, which protects individuals against unwarranted searches and seizures, has been at the center of many questions recently due to advancements in technology. Technology has evolved to a point where it is no longer necessary to enter someone’s physical space to know what is happening inside a home. This has led to many ambiguities between what is private and public, and what technology usage constitutes a search under the Fourth Amendment. We have reached a critical point that requires a clear test to determine this question to protect the privacy of individuals.

This Comment proposes a new framework …

From Tradition To Adaptation : Spatial Transformation Of Kyoto Machiya, Waricha Wongphyat Jan 2026

From Tradition To Adaptation : Spatial Transformation Of Kyoto Machiya, Waricha Wongphyat

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

This study investigates the spatial adaptations of everyday Japanese dwellings in Kyoto, known as machiya. Employing Hall’s proxemics theory, it analyzes five heritage-conscious machiya through field surveys and comparative case analyses. The research focuses on the transformation of the earthen floor space, or tōriniwa, its relationship with the raised floor space, and the resultant spatial systems in regenerated machiya.  Findings reveal that traditional machiya are structured by a clear dichotomy between the raised floor/served space and the earthen floor/service space, reinforced by level changes, materials, spatial boundaries, and socio-cultural practices. This is complemented by a subtle spatial gradient from public …

The First Home : A Pedagogical Exploration Of Architecture’S Mythical Origins, Witinan Watanasap, Chittawadi Chitrabongs

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

This research article proposes the idea of the "First Home" as a pedagogical model for architectural design studios in Thailand. The objective is to foster a more humanistic approach to the foundation of architecture education by integrating histories and theories of architecture, architectural representation, and architectural design studio courses. The "First Home" investigates the mythical origins of architecture—the cave, post-and-lintel structure, and tent—as well as the roles of language and art, framed as the processes of “remembering” and “forgetting.” The literature review for this study is based on architectural texts and diagrams focusing on spatial composition, written by architects who …

Sustainable Architecture Practice In Indonesia : Navigating Global Standards And Local Knowledge, Dyah Kusuma Wardhani, Himasari Hanan, Firmansyah -

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

This study investigates how Indonesian architects navigate between global green building rating tools (GBRTs) and context-specific design strategies across different project types and scales. Using a comparative analysis of sixteen award-winning projects by six Indonesian architects, the research combines semi-structured interviews with document review and inductive coding to map design logics against core GBRT categories. The analysis is around six themes used by GBRTs—energy efficiency, material resources and cycles, water conservation, sustainable site development, indoor health and comfort, and building resilience and adaptability—and identifies two additional themes central to Indonesian practice yet largely absent from GBRT assessment—social collaboration in the …

Vision‑Based Online Quality Tracking In Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing Via Hybrid Unsupervised Deep Learning–Statistical Process Monitoring, Giulio Mattera, Yue Cao, Yuming Zhang, Luigi Nele Jan 2026

Vision‑Based Online Quality Tracking In Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing Via Hybrid Unsupervised Deep Learning–Statistical Process Monitoring, Giulio Mattera, Yue Cao, Yuming Zhang, Luigi Nele

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Vision-based monitoring of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) using supervised deep learning represents the state of the art in anomaly detection, but such approaches require large labeled datasets that are costly to obtain and typically limited to laboratory conditions. To address these limitations, this work proposes a hybrid deep learning–statistical process monitoring (SPM) framework tailored to the stochastic nature of conventional arc welding processes such as GMAW-based additive manufacturing, where existing methods often overfit. The framework integrates a residual convolutional autoencoder (Res-CAE) with skip connections, which jointly analyzes video frames to generate refined latent-space features that are subsequently monitored using …

S.T.A.R. Methodology: Semiotic Tracing, Attunement And Reframing, Debbie Jacobsen Jan 2026

S.T.A.R. Methodology: Semiotic Tracing, Attunement And Reframing, Debbie Jacobsen

Doctor of Ministry

This Project Portfolio responds to the following Need–Problem–Opportunity (NPO): Fathers shaped by incarceration and broken paternal roots need a reorienting tool to reclaim fatherhood, see beauty in chaos, and encounter Jesus’ presence. While many ministry and reentry initiatives appropriately prioritize immediate stabilization and support, this project addresses a complementary and often underdeveloped need: cultivating meaning, dignity, and spiritual attentiveness through sustained presence, where chaos may be perceived not only as disruption but also as a site of possible beauty and presence.

A key insight emerging from the research is that meaning is neither created nor imposed, but recognized through sustained, …

Animal Models Of Aortic Aneurysm And Dissection: A Comparative Guide For Mechanism, Therapeutic Testing, And Translational Readouts, Shayan Mohammadmoradi, Sidney W. Whiteheart Jan 2026

Animal Models Of Aortic Aneurysm And Dissection: A Comparative Guide For Mechanism, Therapeutic Testing, And Translational Readouts, Shayan Mohammadmoradi, Sidney W. Whiteheart

Saha Cardiovascular Research Center Faculty Publications

Aortic aneurysms and dissections are devastating vascular diseases with high mortality, yet no pharmacological therapy has proven effective in halting growth or preventing rupture. Surgical and endovascular repair remain the only treatment options for advanced disease. Animal models have been indispensable in defining mechanisms and testing candidate therapies, but the diversity of protocols, strain-dependent variability, and heterogeneous endpoints complicate interpretation and translation. This review provides an update focused on how to match models to specific research questions. We critically compare commonly used abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) models (angiotensin II ± hyperlipidemia, elastase, calcium chloride, β-aminopropionitrile BAPN hybrids, and mineralocorticoid agonist/fludrocortisone …

Aeroelastic Simulation Of Shape Adaptive Wing, Allan Alfred Kozich Iii Jan 2026

Aeroelastic Simulation Of Shape Adaptive Wing, Allan Alfred Kozich Iii

Honors Undergraduate Theses

Morphing wings provide aerodynamic qualities that normal fixed wings cannot, such as the ability to improve endurance yet maintain maneuverability, overcome strong gusts, vibrations, and shocks, and handle both ideal flight for both high and low speeds. A critical application of the new generation of morphing wings is the ability to overcome and affect the onset flutter, a self-excited oscillatory instability that has led to the destruction of aircrafts. This work investigates aeroelastic behavior and measurement of a meta-material structured "smart" wing and its attempt to delay the effect of flutter. The variable wing tip model is analyzed through finite …

The Vagabond Way: A Qualitative Study Of Intentional Non-Participation In Structured Society, Lorena E. Black Jan 2026

The Vagabond Way: A Qualitative Study Of Intentional Non-Participation In Structured Society, Lorena E. Black

Honors Undergraduate Theses

This study analyzes intentional vagabondage as both a philosophical position and a lived critique of structured society. Using qualitative fieldwork conducted at Fairlawn Family Church in Fort Pierce, Florida—including ten semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and grounded theory analysis—the study examines how individuals who voluntarily disengage from formal systems of housing, labor, and legality construct meaning, identity, and stability beyond institutional boundaries. The analysis identifies three central themes: rhythm, referring to the patterned routines that sustain mobility; reciprocity, which characterizes social exchange and support networks; and refusal, expressed as a deliberate rejection of societal expectations. While many participants describe their paths …

Participatory Barriers And Single-Member Districts In Planning For Latino Demographics: A Spatial Analysis Of Osceola County, Florida, Amy Garcia Paniagua Jan 2026

Participatory Barriers And Single-Member Districts In Planning For Latino Demographics: A Spatial Analysis Of Osceola County, Florida, Amy Garcia Paniagua

Honors Undergraduate Theses

This mixed-methods case study on Osceola County, Florida examines how participatory barriers shape planning outcomes for Latino communities within single member district systems. Demographic transformation has shaped Osceola into one of three Hispanic/Latino majority counties. For Latinos, unique barriers to civic access exist, with the potential for exclusion in planning processes. The research bridges participatory planning theory with theories supporting single-member district electoral representation by evaluating whether district-level governance mitigates inequities where civic engagement is constrained. Methods integrate GIS-based spatial analysis with an institutional review of district-level actions to assess relationships between Hispanic civic accessibility and planning equity. Two composite …

The Successful Transition To Executive Leadership Roles In The Pharmaceutical Industry, Eddie J. Fuller

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

The underrepresentation of minority groups in leadership roles within the pharmaceutical industry constitutes a significant issue, as evidenced by various studies. These studies consistently indicate that individuals from underrepresented groups are less likely to progress into leadership positions. It appears that much of the existing literature discusses African American women as the identified underrepresented group. This dissertation investigates the underrepresentation of minority groups in leadership roles within the pharmaceutical industry. The sample comprises both minority and majority participants who currently hold or have previously held leadership positions in pharmaceutical companies within the United States. This dissertation uses survey questionnaires to …

Political Elections In The New Wave Of Media: The Celebrification Of The Presidency, Camille B. Moore

Anthós

This article examines the impact of social media on journalism leading up to the 2024 United States presidential election and how expectations of candidates have changed. By exploring the degradation of discourse in news and how polarization and cognitive biases have intensified with the widespread adoption of social media, previous candidate conventions have begun to crumble. This has, and will continue to have, a large impact on voting and democracy in America, as scholars have noted since the beginning of the 2000’s, in examining a shift in news preferences as pop culture gains influence. This work further examines recent scholarship …

Graduate Student Portfolios, Professional Papers, and Capstone Projects

This MSW portfolio narrative examines the expanding boundaries of social work practice at the intersection of human and ecological systems. Organized as a series of interconnected personal essays structured around river metaphors, the portfolio argues that social work's anthropocentric foundations limit the profession's capacity to address contemporary crises of environmental justice, climate change, and ecological health. Drawing on fieldwork in natural resources conflict resolution, wilderness therapy, outdoor education, and climate health advocacy in rural Montana, the author demonstrates competency across all ten CSWE social work practice behaviors while advancing a practice framework that centers relational, embodied, and ecologically grounded intervention. …
