Derogability From Swedish Statutory Labour Law, Birgitta Nyström
Derogability From Swedish Statutory Labour Law, Birgitta Nyström
Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal
The possibility for the social partners to derogate from statutory legislation in the area of labour and employment law is an important characteristic of the so-called “Swedish model” for industrial relations and labour market regulation. With a system built on collective bargaining and collective agreements, and where legislation in the labour law area was rather scarce until the 1970s, freedom for the social partners is a core element. The possibility to derogate from certain parts of statutory labour law by collective agreements also gives room to adapt rules for different kinds of businesses and trades. Sweden is a member of …
Secondary Students’ Mental Health And Absenteeism Post-Covid-19: School Social Workers’ Perspectives, Tiffany Hines Sutton
Secondary Students’ Mental Health And Absenteeism Post-Covid-19: School Social Workers’ Perspectives, Tiffany Hines Sutton
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
School social workers practice in a post-COVID-19 educational context where anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation are closely associated with chronic absenteeism among middle school students. This practice problem is central to clinical social work because distress-based avoidance is often misinterpreted as defiance, resulting in punitive responses that intensify disengagement. The purpose of this doctoral project was to explore how school social workers perceive and respond to the interconnected dynamics of student mental health and chronic absenteeism following COVID-19. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory guided the inquiry. A qualitative descriptive design was employed using semi-structured interviews with 10 middle school social workers …

Transformation From Sap Ecc To Sap S/4hana Finance Erp In The Usa: Investigating Human-Centric Challenges And Strategic Benefits, Muhammad Kamran Mirza Mr.
Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses
This study examines the human-centric challenges and organizational strategic benefits associated with migrating from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA Finance in U.S.-based organizations. The motivation behind this ERP transformation is that the company aims to automate its business processes and achieve operational efficiency. The success of ERP migration is shaped by user experience. Human barriers such as cognitive load, burnout and reluctance to change, insufficient user training, and work stress can threaten the success of ERP migration. This study aims to examine human-centric issues and organizational dynamics to propose effective ERP migration strategies that can help future ERP migrations and …

As computing education expands globally, the dominance of English in programming languages can present barriers for students who are not native English speakers. This research work investigates whether language matters in programming by examining how a bilingual programming workshop influences student attitudes, perceived understanding and comfort. Sixty bilingual participants from San Jose State University, 40 with little to no prior programming experience and 20 experienced programmers completed a two-hour workshop using the multilingual Hedy platform. Pre- and post-surveys measured changes in confidence, enjoyment, motivation, identity, and usefulness, complemented by open-ended questions about participants’ experiences. All students showed improvements across most …

AimWe investigated how local-scale environmental heterogeneity influences biodiversity patterns across broad biogeographic gradients, using intertidal microhabitats as a model system within one of the most environmentally stressful ecosystems on Earth.LocationIntertidal habitats at 26 locations (two rocky shore sites per location) across six continents, spanning 98° of latitude (38°S to 60°N).Time Period2019–2022.Major Taxa StudiedAlgae, sessile and mobile invertebrates.MethodsWe compared biodiversity and thermal environments across contrasting microhabitats (rock pools and adjacent emergent rock) along a latitudinal gradient, sampling during environmentally ‘milder’ and ‘harsher’ periods. Biodiversity was quantified using multiple richness metrics (mean, total, unique taxa) and functional diversity.ResultsMicrohabitat differences strongly influenced biodiversity …

Heat waves are increasing in frequency, intensity, magnitude, and duration, causing a disproportionate impact on marginalized communities exposed to urban heat islands. Newly emerging spaceborne thermal sensing instruments, such as ECOSTRESS and Hydrosat, now have the capabilities to measure urban surface temperatures accurately at the block level (< 100 m) and with enough frequency to capture transient heat waves (daily to subweekly). Such data are critical for monitoring and informing policy and mitigation efforts, such as resurfacing, green space, cooling stations, and medical mobilization. These serve to advance environmental justice and reduce health risks—and deaths—among the most vulnerable: minority, low-income, elderly, those with physical- and mental-health preconditions, unhoused, children, and outdoor workers. While scientists have increasingly used satellite data to quantify urban heat islands and risks to communities, there remains a significant gap in action resulting from such analyses—a figurative and literal “valley of death.” Reviewing over 500 scientific publications, we identify a critical lack of engagement with the communities being analyzed (10.9%; n = 58); yet, community engagement is key to bridging such analysis with subsequent action. Here, we demonstrate how participatory community engagement directly with data and analysis leads to increased policy changes and mitigation efforts. Our framework has immediate implications for how scientists may augment their work and thought processes to achieve …

Chemical And Structural Characterization Of Ramie-Based Epoxy Composites Reinforced With Macadamia Nut Shell Biochar, Murugesan Palaniappan, P Manoj Kumar, Gokulkumar Sivanantham, Dawit Tafesse Gebreyohannes
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
This study examined the effect of biochar by macadamia nut shell waste on the mechanical behaviour of ramie fibre reinforced epoxy composite. Controlled pyrolysis was used to prepare biochar at 350 °C, followed by ball milling to produce a mesoporous carbon structure with a crystallinity index of 40.5%, a crystallite size of 1.6 nm, a Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area of 326 m2/g and an average pore size of 3.8 nm. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses confirmed partial graphitization and the presence of oxygen-containing functional groups, while surface roughness analysis (Ra = 0.2382 µm, Rq = …

Leaching Of Manganese Using Bio-Solubilized Iron Reductant To Prevent Manganese Carbonate Formation, Palas Kamlakar Borkar, Neha Sharma, Atharva Rane, Kwabena Boafo, Timothy Eisele
Michigan Tech Publications
A mixed culture of metal-reducing microorganisms was used to dissolve iron, which was then utilized as a reductant to extract manganese in a 250 mL two-stage bioleaching system. In this two-stage configuration, CO2 generation associated with microbial metabolism occurs in the iron-reduction stage, while MnO2 reduction is confined to a separate manganese-leaching stage, thereby minimizing manganese carbonate formation. The results demonstrated that the two-stage system effectively maintained Fe2+ availability, enhancing manganese dissolution while mitigating loss of manganese through manganese carbonate (MnCO3) formation. In contrast, a single-stage bioleaching approach, where microorganisms directly reduced manganese oxides, led to significant MnCO3 precipitation, …
