Performance Enhancement Of Pv Panels By A Channel Shaped Heat Exchanger With An Electromechanical Control, Hussein Idan, Hatam Kadhom, Sahar Faraj
Engineering and Technology Journal
Photovoltaic panels are considered one of the important practical applications in converting solar energy into electrical energy, but they suffer from the effect of heat associated with solar radiation. Therefore, much research has been done to either harness the heat that comes with it or eliminate it by cooling the panel and boosting its effectiveness. In this work, a cooling box was designed and manufactured locally (the passage design is new) that is attached to the back wall as part of the panel without inserting an absorbent portion between it and the water to cool the panel. The new model …

The Influence Of Micro Channel On The Performance Of Low Concentrator Parabolic Collector Systems With Phase Change Material, Jenan Hamdi, Jalal Jalil, Ahmed Reja
Engineering and Technology Journal
Increasing global economic development leads to a continuous increase in energy demand, considering the limited conventional resources of energy as well as the impact on the environment associated with its use. The primary disadvantage of solar energy is that it is only accessible during the day. Thermal energy storage systems can overlook this flaw since they can store energy throughout the day for use at night. This paper presents a new cooling technique for low-concentration parabolic collectors with microchannel and Phase Change Material (PCM). A test model consisting of a parabolic concentrator was designed and fabricated to test the parabolic …

The problem of membrane fouling remains a significant concern in ultrafiltration, a commonly employed method in water treatment due to its high efficacy and minimal energy consumption. This study made a nanocomposite ultrafiltration membrane out of MXene Ti3C2 nanosheets, a new two-dimensional material, to improve the antifouling properties of PVDF membranes. It was possible to incorporate the nanosheets into the membrane structure through in situ embedment during the phase inversion process. To learn more about them, the study investigated the membranes using FESEM, FTIR, water contact angle (CA), and porosity measurements. The application of common flux and rejection tests assessed …

Innovative Self-Healing Concrete Using Polycarboxylate Ether: A Fused Deposition Modeling Approach With 3d-Printed Polylactic Acid Vascular Networks, Noor Hameed, Alaa Abdul-Hamead, Farhad Othman
Engineering and Technology Journal
Concrete's fracture susceptibility is due to its limited tensile strength, which can lead to cracks. Steel reinforcement is added to designated areas to address this issue, but minuscule cracks can allow liquids and vapors to infiltrate the reinforcing material, causing corrosion. Self-healing concrete can resist corrosion by mending and sealing minor cracks. This study aims to determine if fused deposition modeling (FDM) can fabricate innovative vascular networks and tubes from polylactic acid (PLA) created by using three-dimensional (3D) printing methods, and its characteristics were contrasted with those of two- and one-dimensional (2D) networks. The dimensions of the internal and exterior diameters …

Effect Of Carbonization On The Mechanical Properties Of Mild Steel Utilizing Oak Charcoal As A Carbon Source, Omer Mahmood
Effect Of Carbonization On The Mechanical Properties Of Mild Steel Utilizing Oak Charcoal As A Carbon Source, Omer Mahmood
Engineering and Technology Journal
Carburizing is a process that improves the mechanical properties of low-carbon steel, particularly its surface hardness. Introducing carbon into the steel's surface enhances the creation of a durable and resistant outer layer. The technique is especially useful for low-carbon steel because it cannot be hardened by quenching and tempering. This work investigates the effects of solid carburizing on the mechanical properties of mild steel. Oak charcoal was used as a carbon source due to its local availability and low cost. The study examined how solid carburization affects the microstructure and mechanical characteristics of mild steel. Mild steel samples were carburized …

Engineering and Technology Journal
The rapid growth in wireless telecommunication systems has spurred a strong interest in lightweight, compact, and cost-effective materials. One promising solution for achieving these characteristics is using polymer matrix ceramic-reinforced composites. In this context, complex oxide materials, specifically Zn1-xCuxWO4 (where x=0 and x=0.03), were used to reinforce three different polymer matrices: epoxy, polyurethane, and silicone rubber. The primary objective was to create composites with low loss factors and high dielectric constants, essential qualities for telecommunications systems. To create the complex oxides, the solid-state reaction method was employed. In particular, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed that Zn0.97Cu0.03WO4 exhibited a monoclinic …

Design Of Waste Stabilisation Ponds For Municipal Effluent Treatment In Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, Nigeria, Francis Ogbozige
Engineering and Technology Journal
The generation of wastewater or effluent is unavoidable as long as humans exist, and it could cause potential danger if not properly managed. One way to manage it is by ensuring proper treatment before discharging into rivers, streams, and creeks. This will not just protect human health but will also protect aquatic fauna and flora. Thus, this research applied scientific and engineering principles to design a waste stabilization pond (WSP) to treat municipal effluent generated in a large military community (Sobi Cantonment), which currently lacks a wastewater treatment plant. The research revealed that the WSP will comprise two anaerobic ponds, …

Quartz powder is used in ultra-high-performance concrete to improve granular packing, but repeated inhalation during manufacture can cause health issues. The mechanical properties of UHPC are influenced by the post-setting curing method. A hypothesis suggests limestone powder could be a viable filler to mitigate these issues under three different curing regimes, replacing quartz powder of similar size. The study assessed 18 mixtures with different w/b ratios for flow characteristics and compressive strength after 7 and 28 days of curing under various conditions. Limestone powder positively impacted compressive strength and had fresh properties. A two-factor interaction model accurately correlated variables and …

Effect Of Structure Height On Seismic Response Of Adjacent Structures Considering Soil-Structure Interaction, Mohammed Abdulaziz, Mohammed Hamood, Mohammed Fattah

Seismic activity has emerged as a mostly attractive issue for researchers and engineers, particularly in light of the recent occurrence of severe earthquakes worldwide, such as those felt in Turkey and Syria. Most entities prone to seismic damage are the structures. Any type of structure consists of a composite system involving structure, foundation, and soil. Previously, numerical and analytical methods for dynamic seismic analysis of structures ignored the impact of this system during earthquakes. In other words, soil-structure interaction (SSI) was ignored. Moreover, another important factor that was not considered is the interaction between structures and soil, or what is …

Soft clayey soils present geotechnical engineering challenges with significant stability and settlement. Various methods are employed to enhance the geotechnical properties of these soils. Heating and grouting are the methods used to improve such soil. A new heating and cement grouting system using gas as a source of heating through boreholes and Portland cement for grouting was designed and manufactured to enhance the soft soil. Different parameters were investigated, including the shear strength and the angle of internal friction, as well as the water/cement ratio, W/C (0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, and 1.75), and the period of curing (3, 14, …
