The Dangers Of Social Media In Political Theory, Eden M. Shimanek Mar 2026

The Dangers Of Social Media In Political Theory, Eden M. Shimanek

Global Tides

Increasing political polarization is a prominent feature of the twenty-first-century political landscape, with social media playing a significant role. This essay evaluates social media as a political platform through Hannah Arendt’s notion of the Vita Activa, which describes the political realm and the ideas of totalitarianism. Using this framework, I argue that the surging political use of social media creates digital “echo chambers” that result from the loss of human plurality, which ultimately marks the diverse nature of the political realm. I would continue to argue that these chambers evolve into the notion that Arendt notes as world alienation or …

A Case Against Pragmatic Encroachment, Mahali Kuzyk Mar 2026

A Case Against Pragmatic Encroachment, Mahali Kuzyk

Global Tides

In their paper, Evidence, Pragmatics, and Justification Fantl and McGrath offer a seemingly intuitive and attractive route to a revision of what counts as epistemic justification and knowledge. They argue that knowledge is not just a matter of evidence, but depends in part on one’s practical situation. Higher stakes and different utilities can change whether a belief is knowledge-constituting. This essay will argue that Fantl and McGrath’s attempt to use their Knowledge-Action principle (KA) to back pragmatic encroachment ultimately fails.

Demonstrating Sysml V2’S Utility With Syside And Syson For Systems Modeling, Quinn Galen

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

This study highlights the practical utility of SysML v2’s kernel language, a formal, text based foundation for consistent, cross tool model definitions, in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), using Air Traffic Management (ATM) as an illustrative example. SysIDE, an open source textual editor, enables rapid model creation with the kernel’s concise syntax, allowing users to define system components and behaviors (e.g., ATM radar or flight path interactions) with real time validation. SysON, a web based graphical tool, complements this by facilitating collaborative visualization of system architectures. Using ATM as an example case, we can showcase how the kernel language enhances …

Conceptual Exploration Of Film Cooling Techniques In Hydrogen Gas Turbines, Wen Wu Mar 2026

Conceptual Exploration Of Film Cooling Techniques In Hydrogen Gas Turbines, Wen Wu

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

Film cooling is a key heat transfer technique that protects gas turbine blades from extreme temperatures, allowing higher turbine inlet temperatures and greater thermal efficiency. It works by ejecting a thin layer of cooler air from the compressor through small holes onto the hot surface, creating a protective film layer that lowers surface temperature and reduces thermal stress on blades. This process is vital in power generation and propulsion systems that operate near material limits. With growing emphasis on sustainability, film cooling has gained new importance in hydrogen-fueled gas turbines. Hydrogen combustion creates water vaper and low-density exhaust gases, which …

This disclosure describes the GCI-274 Neuro-Clearance Engine (v3.1), a non-medical, open-hardware research architecture designed for the study of complex fluid dynamics in cranial-mimetic phantom models. The system integrates 21 independent Gemini Caldwell Inventions (GCI) into a unified Vortex-Acoustic Transport Stack to explore the mobilization and redistribution of protein-analog aggregates in non-Newtonian fluids (PVA-Cryogel).

The architecture utilizes a multi-layer physical approach:

  1. Kinetic Lift Layer: Employs the GCI #102 Vortex Spine featuring GCI #18 J-Groove Rifling to induce passive vortex shedding and helical upward flow without mechanical impellers.

  2. Acoustophoretic Layer: Utilizes a 12-element GCI #75 Phased Array mapped to a GCI …

Artificial Genuine Intelligence: Why Constraint Matters More Than Values In Recursive Ai Systems, Thom Pham Mar 2026

Artificial Genuine Intelligence: Why Constraint Matters More Than Values In Recursive Ai Systems, Thom Pham

Defensive Publications Series

Large language models are often described as hallucinating when they produce incorrect

or unsupported outputs. That label is useful descriptively, but it conflates several distinct

mechanisms, including local generation error, unsupported fabrication, and

interaction-driven reinforcement of an initially weak claim. This paper isolates the third

case.

We argue that a subset of hallucination-like behavior is better understood as Recursive

Narrative Amplification (RNA): a feedback dynamic in which an already introduced

claim gains authority through recursive reuse before sufficient external constraint has

refreshed or corrected the trajectory.

The paper also introduces aggregation-induced error as a distinct structural failure mode

arising from …

Gci #271 – Active Orbitronic Heat‑Pump Substrate (V2), Michael Victor Caldwell Mr. Mar 2026

Gci #271 – Active Orbitronic Heat‑Pump Substrate (V2), Michael Victor Caldwell Mr.

Defensive Publications Series

GCI #271 proposes a solid‑state, vibration‑driven thermal‑diode‑like interposer for high‑density chip‑stacks. It moves beyond passive heat spreading by attempting to bias phonon transport in one direction using chiral‑phonon‑induced orbital‑like currents driven by an acoustic field and thermal bias.

At its core, GCI #271 combines:

  • A high‑thermal‑polymer substrate (Dyneema‑UHMWPE / epoxy‑acrylate, based on Arachne‑23‑style concepts) that serves as the main “phonon highway” within the interposer.

  • A Z‑cut α‑quartz thin film (5–20 µm thick) bonded on top, chosen because chiral‑phonon effects and orbital‑like responses have been observed in similar quartz‑like crystals when driven by thermal, optical, or acoustic excitation.

  • Piezo‑driven acoustic excitation …

Pith: A Governed Cognitive Architecture For Persistent Ai Memory, Andrew Estey-Ang Mar 2026

Pith: A Governed Cognitive Architecture For Persistent Ai Memory, Andrew Estey-Ang

Defensive Publications Series

We present Pith, a cognitive architecture that provides persistent, governed memory for large language model (LLM) agents. Unlike stateless retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems or simple key-value memory stores, Pith implements a multi-layered governance stack that manages the full lifecycle of learned knowledge: acquisition, belief state management, temporal decay, contradiction detection, authority scoring, and cross-session coherence. We describe the architecture's core components — a five-state belief lifecycle, four-tier feedback system, knowledge area segmentation, and a novel behavioral benchmark (CogGov-Bench) for evaluating governance effectiveness. Deployed in production with 4,874 concepts across 3,043 sessions, Pith achieves a CogGov-Bench composite score of 69.0/100 with …

Decoupling Stylistic And Factual Context In Llms To Mitigate Conversational Tone Inertia, Viraj Doshi Mar 2026

Decoupling Stylistic And Factual Context In Llms To Mitigate Conversational Tone Inertia, Viraj Doshi

Defensive Publications Series

Large language models (LLMs) engaged in extended dialogues may exhibit "tone inertia," where a model's style can become fixed and may not adapt when a conversational topic shifts, potentially leading to contextually inappropriate responses. A system can manage this behavior by algorithmically decoupling conversational context into components, such as a factual context for semantic knowledge and a stylistic context for tone and stylistic profile. A domain shift detection module can identify shifts in the conversation based on mathematical/vector detection, which may trigger a reset of the stylistic context while the factual context is preserved. This process can allow dynamic adaptation …

Transaction-Outcome Driven Adaptive Logging, Chao Feng, Kelu Zhang, Wenliang Li, Peng Xu, Xiangjun Meng Mar 2026

Transaction-Outcome Driven Adaptive Logging, Chao Feng, Kelu Zhang, Wenliang Li, Peng Xu, Xiangjun Meng

Defensive Publications Series

Presented herein is a system, referred to as Transaction-Outcome Driven Adaptive Logging (TODAL), that is an innovative system that resolves the critical trade-off between comprehensive diagnostic logging and operational efficiency on complex network devices. It achieves this by capturing all log data at the highest verbosity into an internal buffer, then intelligently processing and outputting only key summary information for successful operations, while providing full detailed logs exclusively for failed transactions. This approach not only ensures comprehensive troubleshooting data is always available when needed, but also significantly reduces system resource consumption and extends the effective retention period of relevant logs.

The Role Of Emerin In Myogenic Differentiation, Nicholas Marano Mar 2026

The Role Of Emerin In Myogenic Differentiation, Nicholas Marano

Theses and Dissertations

The nucleus harbors genetic material encapsulated by the nuclear envelope which is composed of an inner and outer nuclear membrane. The establishment and organization of chromatin at the INM is essential for cell fate during the differentiation program. Integral INM proteins are responsible for chromatin organization at the nuclear envelope. Emerin is a highly conserved type II integral INM protein with roles in chromatin organization, cell signaling, and nuclear structure. Mutations in the emerin gene cause Emery Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy 1 (EDMD1). Emerin is ubiquitously expressed, but loss of emerin function affects specifically skeletal muscle and cardiac tissue. The precise …

Faculty Publications

High Al-content AlxGa1-xN (0.7 < x < 1) quasi-vertical Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) with distributed polarization doping were grown on the bulk AlN substrate. They exhibit excellent rectification behavior with a large forward current density (~14 kA/cm2 ) and a high breakdown field of ~8.3 MV/cm. The SBDs also exhibited low ideality factors of (n~1.2) with a high Schottky barrier height (Φ b~ 1.7 eV). Thus, this study demonstrates the feasibility of the distributed polarization doping approach for high current–high voltage devices.
