Mitigating Burnout Syndrome Through Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Rachel Kathryn Fajardo Apr 2026

Mitigating Burnout Syndrome Through Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Rachel Kathryn Fajardo

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Burnout Syndrome (BOS) continues to affect critical care nurses, resulting in emotional exhaustion, disengagement, and threats to patient safety [1–4]. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project evaluated the impact of a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) toolkit on BOS among nurses in a rural intensive care unit. Using a pre-post quality improvement design, baseline burnout was measured with the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Human Services Survey for Medical Personnel (MBI-HSS-MP) and custom Likert-scale surveys administered at three time points [5]. A convenience sample of ten nurses participated in asynchronous and live sessions supported by weekly education and QR-linked resources. The MBSR toolkit …

Michigan Tech Publications

A new fully coupled modeling system, integrating atmosphere, ocean, and wave models, is presented to simulate intricate interactions during tropical cyclones and explore their potential implications for offshore infrastructure. The system is evaluated on Hurricane Henri (2021), chosen for its distinctive track along the US northeast coast, an area of densely populated regions and offshore wind energy zones. Three simulation setups are compared: atmosphere only, atmosphere–ocean, and a fully coupled atmosphere–ocean–wave model. Among them, the fully coupled model produces the most realistic results, improving not only the storm intensity near the surface but also the wind structure from the near …

Integrated Vaccine Bundle Procurement Framework, Ming Zhu Apr 2026

Integrated Vaccine Bundle Procurement Framework, Ming Zhu

Theses

Childhood vaccination is among the most effective public health interventions, yet ensuring affordable access in low-income countries (LICs) remains challenging. Centralized procurement agencies such as UNICEF and Gavi purchase vaccines antigen-by-antigen through competitive tenders which is a practice that fails to capture the affordability gains attainable by coordinating vaccine products into optimized bundles tailored to each child’s complete immunization schedule. This study develops an Integrated Vaccine Bundle Procurement Framework that shifts the unit of procurement from the antigen level to the vaccine product level. The framework formulates the procurement as the construction and selection of child-level immunization bundles, feasible sets …

Comparison Of Pfas-Free Hydrophobic Layer-By-Layer Coatings For Cellulosic Textiles: Evaluation Of Water Repellency, Mechanical Durability, And The Effects Of Fabric Construction, Elvira Isenzhulova, Radika Bhaskar

School of Design and Engineering Papers

Environmentally safe water-repellent coatings are urgently needed for the textile industry as an alternative to PFAS-based finishes. Challenges include development of coatings that are effective in imparting both water repellency and mechanical durability, with relatively simple synthesis to promote industry use. This study compared the performance and abrasion resistance of two different bio-based, layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembled hydrophobic coatings for cellulosic fibers. Textile samples were coated with bilayers composed of negatively charged plant-derived carnauba wax and a positively charged component: either poly-L-lysine or lower-cost zinc oxide nanoparticles. To investigate the influence of surface microroughness on coating adhesion and performance, two different …

The Continuing Specter Of Disease Tuberculosis In The Russian Federation, Joshua Farquhar Apr 2026

The Continuing Specter Of Disease Tuberculosis In The Russian Federation, Joshua Farquhar

Global Insight

For the last two years, the public discussion surrounding global health has focused almost entirely on COVID-19. In the meantime, other historic and dangerous diseases have taken a backseat. Nevertheless, other endemics are worthy of discussion; these diseases, and potential lifesaving solutions, must also be granted attention if global progress on public health is to be achieved. This paper explores the tuberculosis endemic in the Russian Federation (RF), focusing mostly on multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB. While overall rates of tuberculosis have declined in Russia over the course of the 21st century, incidence is still far higher than in most nations, …

Propaganda In America How To Recognize And Defend Against It, Chae Balistreri Apr 2026

Propaganda In America How To Recognize And Defend Against It, Chae Balistreri

Global Insight

Corporations and governments use modern propaganda techniques to influence and manipulate the public, incurring social and environmental consequences which are compounding over time. This paper provides both historical and modern examples of propaganda, then highlights key issues that arise as a byproduct, such as planned obsolescence, astroturfing, and the internet filter bubble. Companies like Google and Facebook use proprietary algorithms to shape the internet as well as their users’ minds through dopamine-driven feedback loops. The effects of a consumer driven culture spill over into the environment, with plastic pollution and e-waste littering the shores of distant countries. This paper details …

Molecular Cloning And Purification Of Recombinant Cutinase Enzymes To Study Enzymatic Degradation Of Aircraft Polymer Coatings, Allison Bair Apr 2026

Molecular Cloning And Purification Of Recombinant Cutinase Enzymes To Study Enzymatic Degradation Of Aircraft Polymer Coatings, Allison Bair

Honors Theses

Fungal degradation of polymer coatings on military aircraft causes accelerated damage and corrosion and results in expensive repairs to affected aircraft, especially in warm and humid environments. This project aims to identify and characterize the fungal enzymes responsible for degrading these coatings and give us a better understanding of their mechanisms of degradation. The focus is specifically on hydrolytic cutinase enzymes, which are secreted by fungi to degrade plant cutin and similar natural polymers. We hypothesize that these enzymes can also break down synthetic polymers, such as the polyester-based coatings used on aircraft, by catalyzing hydrolysis of their ester bonds. …

A System Dynamics Model For Simulating Homelessness Trends In Montgomery County, Ohio, Samuel S. Conley Apr 2026

A System Dynamics Model For Simulating Homelessness Trends In Montgomery County, Ohio, Samuel S. Conley

Honors Theses

Homelessness is a complex social issue influenced by a wide range of economic, social, and health related factors. Traditional methods for measuring homelessness, such as point-in-time counts, provide valuable snapshots of the population but do not capture the dynamic processes that lead individuals into or out of homelessness. This work presents a system dynamics model designed to simulate homelessness trends within Montgomery County, Ohio. The model represents the county population using five primary states: general population, at-risk, homeless, supportive housing, and unaccounted individuals. To better capture heterogeneity within the population, the homeless and supportive housing states are further decomposed into …

Ai-Driven Computer Vision For Automated Ripeness Detection In Tomato Plants, Austin Ebbing Apr 2026

Ai-Driven Computer Vision For Automated Ripeness Detection In Tomato Plants, Austin Ebbing

Honors Theses

This work presents a computer vision-based approach for automated ripeness detection in tomato plants. The system leverages a YOLOv8 segmentation model trained on a publicly available dataset to detect and isolate individual tomatoes within complex visual environments. While segmentation provides an initial estimate of tomato regions, additional processing is required to remove non-fruit artifacts such as stems and leaves that may interfere with analysis. To address this, an edge-constrained region growing method is used to tighten segmentation masks by removing unwanted structures such as stems and leaves while preserving the underlying fruit. Ripeness is then estimated using a color-based analysis …

Developing Adult Glioma Model In Drosophila, Anna Lindenmuth Apr 2026

Developing Adult Glioma Model In Drosophila, Anna Lindenmuth

Honors Theses

Glial brain tumors typically occur in older adults and have no known cure. Therefore, it is important to study the growth and physiological effects that this disease causes in hopes of finding an adequate solution. A great and inexpensive model to study glial cell tumors is flies because they share similar neurological pathways with humans. Our lab studies glioma brain tumors in larval stages of Drosophila, but no adult models have been made to account for and match the occurrence of cancer developing in older adults. Therefore, this study’s purpose is to create and study the growth of glial cell …

"Of Good Blood In Good Standing”: Nation-Building And The Politics Of Belonging In The Stockbridge-Munsee Community, Caleb Molseed Apr 2026

"Of Good Blood In Good Standing”: Nation-Building And The Politics Of Belonging In The Stockbridge-Munsee Community, Caleb Molseed

Honors Theses

Between 1734 and 1856, the Stockbridge Mohicans and Munsee Lenape endured five major displacements from their ancestral homelands in Massachusetts and New York to their present-day reservation in Wisconsin. Despite shifting federal structures and nation-to-nation policies, these two distinct peoples formed a unified political entity: the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. This thesis examines the colonial systems that enabled, complicated, and recorded how this community engaged in their own nation-building through their interpretation and production of religious, economic, and political documents. This documentary culture is highlighted by the exclusion of John Lewis from the nation following his 1856 killing of a fellow tribal …

Characterization And Reliability Of Amorphous Oxide Thin-Film Field-Effect Transistors, David Weaver

Honors Theses

This work investigates the electrical performance and reliability of thin-film amorphous oxide field-effect transistors based on titanium-doped indium oxide (In₂O₃:Ti) as the channel material. Devices were fabricated and systematically characterized through current-voltage (I-V) measurements to extract key parameters including threshold voltage, subthreshold swing, and on/off current ratio. Devices were also characterized using a positive and negative bias temperature instability (PBTI/NBTI) to determine the reliability of the devices.

The Retreat Of Federal Power And The Rise Of Post-Supremacy Federalism, Victoria Grace Litman Apr 2026

The Retreat Of Federal Power And The Rise Of Post-Supremacy Federalism, Victoria Grace Litman

Cleveland State Law Review

This Article introduces the theory of post-supremacy federalism to describe a structural condition in which federal law remains formally binding, but enforcement has durably receded or collapsed. Unlike frameworks grounded in intergovernmental friction or negotiated cooperation, this account begins from federal retreat—the cumulative erosion of enforcement capacity across judicial, administrative, legislative, and executive institutions. Post-supremacy federalism arises when three conditions are met: (1) federal law remains intact; (2) enforcement retreats; and (3) no formal devolution occurs. In this vacuum, states are not merely filling gaps. They are governing by default—under laws that still bind but no longer structure governance in …

Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd)-Based Performance Prediction Of Transcatheter Microvascular Plugs In Single-Ventricle Patients, Zhuhuan Zou Apr 2026

Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd)-Based Performance Prediction Of Transcatheter Microvascular Plugs In Single-Ventricle Patients, Zhuhuan Zou

Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study

Transcatheter palliation using fenestrated Modified Micro Vascular Plugs (MVP) has emerged as a promising, minimally invasive alternative to surgical pulmonary artery banding (PAB) for high-risk neonates with single-ventricle physiology. However, clinical applications are currently limited by the difficulty in predicting the resulting pulmonary-to-systemic flow ratio () and the lack of a standardized approach for selecting the optimal fenestration size. This study utilizes patient-specific computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to quantitatively evaluate the impact of varying fenestration diameters on circulatory balance. Patient-specific 3D models of the pulmonary artery (PA) were reconstructed from imaging data for two clinical cases using SimVascular. Transient CFD …

Polynomial Invariant Observables And Finite-Dimensional Linear Representations, Chengcheng Tian Apr 2026

Polynomial Invariant Observables And Finite-Dimensional Linear Representations, Chengcheng Tian

Electrical and Systems Engineering Undergraduate Student Research

This project studies polynomial observables that are compatible with a lifted linear system and define invariant graphs of the form p = p(x). Such observables arise naturally in the context of Koopman theory and super-linearization, where one seeks finite-dimensional linear representations of nonlinear dynamics.

Starting from the invariance identity, we derive algebraic conditions that constrain the structure of admissible polynomials. In the two-dimensional case, a complete analysis shows that all nonlinear terms are forced to depend on a single direction determined by the control vector B. This leads to a canonical representation in which the observable takes the form of …
