Corner Joint In Architecture Basic Concepts, Atef Muharb Al-Sauhairy Apr 2026

Corner Joint In Architecture Basic Concepts, Atef Muharb Al-Sauhairy

Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning

It can be said that any human creation, including architecture, requires two complementary types of action: theoretical action and practical action. The former represents ideas and feelings, while the latter represents the ability to materially embody these ideas. The dialectical relationship between them is one of the foundations of architectural development and, at any level, represents the "joint." There are several levels of joints in architecture, and this research focuses on identifying the dimensions and levels of the corner joint. The topic is approached through an inductive study aimed at establishing the fundamental concepts for dealing with this joint. As …

Visual barriers are understood through visual connection and lack of visual connection, according to the research concept. The study examines several residential building plans of different styles and identifies the elements of visual barriers within these buildings. The degree of visual barrier for each architectural design treatment is measured by …

The Impact Of The Change Structural, Muamal Alaaaldeen Ibrahim, Badeaa Ali Mohammed Apr 2026

The Impact Of The Change Structural, Muamal Alaaaldeen Ibrahim, Badeaa Ali Mohammed

Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning

Architecture, like language, aims to convey meaning, and since no meaning comes out of it as a system, change becomes an inherent characteristic of it as one of the most important characteristics of any system... and from that, architecture changes from one period to another and its meaning changes. Events of change in architecture are associated with giving a role to the recipient in interpreting it, as its change simulates his intellectual ability when the mind is surprised by an architecture whose characteristics are not known in advance, which makes the recipient a participant of the creator in the process …

The Communicative Act In Architecture, Muamal Alaaaldeen Ibrahim, Salah Al.Deen Yaseen

Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning

The pleasure of architecture does not result from the absence of its laws, but rather from breaking them. One must realize that language is not a rigid material like stone. It is a human invention, and therefore it is charged with the cultural heritage of cultural groups, but it is only built through difference... The recent period has witnessed clear changes in thought and the expressive languages that embody it towards building new ways of understanding and communication among humanity. Several philosophical approaches have emerged that focused on the revolution of difference in the structure of their philosophical discourse, including …

Incentivizing Bidirectional Ev Charging Stations, Luke Warkall Apr 2026

Incentivizing Bidirectional Ev Charging Stations, Luke Warkall

Health Matrix: The Journal of Law-Medicine

California recently enacted a law that gives the California Energy Commission authority to require that Electric Vehicles (“EVs”) sold in California be capable of bidirectional charging. A bidirectional EV is capable of sending energy stored in the EV battery to a person’s home and to the grid. Bidirectional EVs are a novel step in the right direction in the global fight against climate change. They offer a substantial and mobile power source to communities recovering from natural disasters and can offset the demand for nonrenewable energy consumption by storing solar, wind and other renewable energy, then sending that energy back …

Evaluation Of Quantification Methods Applied To Overlapping Ftir Features, Benjamin P. Diehl Apr 2026

Evaluation Of Quantification Methods Applied To Overlapping Ftir Features, Benjamin P. Diehl

Reviews, Analyses, and Instructional Studies in Electrochemistry (RAISE)

Quantifying overlapping FTIR spectral features is critical for electrochemical analysis but often requires complex deconvolution. This work systematically evaluates several area ratio and proxy-based quantification methods using a controlled synthetic spectral model with varying signal-to-noise ratio, peak spacing, width, background, and data resolution. Constrained peak fitting and fixed-window integration consistently exhibit near-perfect monotonicity (Spearman ≈ 1.000) and linearity (Pearson ≈ 0.999–1.000) across all conditions. In contrast, derivative and moment-based metrics show sensitivity to peak overlap, width, and background. These results demonstrate that physically grounded area-based methods provide the most robust and reliable quantification of overlapping FTIR features.

Critical Arteries: Prioritizing Economic Vitality And Emergency Access In Local Networks, Jeremy Hunter Apr 2026

Critical Arteries: Prioritizing Economic Vitality And Emergency Access In Local Networks, Jeremy Hunter

Local Transportation Asset Management Conference

Standard Asset Management Plans (AMPs) often rely heavily on Pavement Condition Index, Paser ratings, and Bridge Condition Ratings to dictate repair schedules. However, a strictly condition-based approach may neglect the economic and safety criticality of specific routes. This presentation proposes a multi-variable evaluation framework for counties, cities, and towns. I will explore methods for overlaying industrial data—specifically for heavy-haul sectors like logging, masonry, and agriculture—to identify and fortify the "economic lifelines" that sustain local revenue. Furthermore, I will address the necessity of resiliency planning within the AMP. By integrating hydraulic data and flood-prone area mapping, agencies can ensure that routes …

Prosecutorial Discretion: The Effect Of Social Dominance Orientation (Sdo) And Right-Wing Authoritarianism (Rwa) On Understanding And Support Among Americans, Jamie Shelton Apr 2026

Prosecutorial Discretion: The Effect Of Social Dominance Orientation (Sdo) And Right-Wing Authoritarianism (Rwa) On Understanding And Support Among Americans, Jamie Shelton

Bates College Journal of Political Studies

The U.S. prison system is plagued by an overrepresentation of the country’s residents, at twenty percent of the world’s prison population. The discretion of prosecutors to determine when and which charges to file has been linked to the immense prison growth of the U.S. since the late 1970s, especially given their lack of judicial and public oversight. In this study, participants were asked to answer survey questions made up of four scales: knowledge of the prosecutorial role (Prosecutor Knowledge), support for policy curtailing prosecutorial discretion (Policy Support), Social Dominance Orientation (SDO), and Right-Wing Authoritarianism (RWA). Findings included significant results for …

Economic Security And Strategic Rivalry: Industrial Policy And The U.S.–China Security Dilemma, Nurielle Rahav Apr 2026

Economic Security And Strategic Rivalry: Industrial Policy And The U.S.–China Security Dilemma, Nurielle Rahav

Bates College Journal of Political Studies

In an era of geopolitical competition and technological dominance, industrial policy has reemerged as a crucial tool of economic strategy in both the United States and China. Industrial policies, particularly in the advanced manufacturing sector, were formerly understood as tools for strengthening the domestic economy. However, against the backdrop of the U.S.–China trade war, new industrial policies carry significant geopolitical implications. This paper argues that industrial policy intensifies the U.S.–China security dilemma, as both governments increasingly interpret economic self-sufficiency in advanced manufacturing as a matter of national security. Through an analysis of two cases, the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act …

Kissing Up, Kicking Down: How Brics Enables South African Sub-Imperialism, Karan Kuppa-Apte Apr 2026

Kissing Up, Kicking Down: How Brics Enables South African Sub-Imperialism, Karan Kuppa-Apte

Bates College Journal of Political Studies

South Africa has framed its BRICS membership as a strategic pivot from the West to the Global South. However, the country remains close to the Western-led order and reproduces unequal economic relations with its regional neighbors. This paper argues that South Africa's inability to break its dependency on the West and reorient itself towards BRICS is caused by an elite-driven approach to IPE that deepens longstanding dependencies, feeds into corruption, and encourages accumulation by dispossession. After establishing a theoretical framework based on dependency theory, world systems theory, and sub-imperialism, this paper identifies the minerals-energy complex (MEC), neoliberal post-apartheid reforms, and …

Beyond Romance: Feminist Imagination Of Intimacy In Female-Centered Mengnü (Dream Girl) Fan-Fiction On Chinese Social Media, Gemma Yantao Sun Apr 2026

Beyond Romance: Feminist Imagination Of Intimacy In Female-Centered Mengnü (Dream Girl) Fan-Fiction On Chinese Social Media, Gemma Yantao Sun

Kritika Kultura

This article examines female-centered mengnü fan-fiction emerging on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu as a feminist recontextualization of heteronormative romantic narratives. Unlike conventional mengnü fiction, which centers on male protagonists and heterosexual desire, these storiettes center female celebrities and intimacies between women. Drawing on frameworks of post-romantic culture and feminist criticism, this article read texts of this new genre through two dimensions. First, it examines how these narratives articulate emotionally intense yet ambiguous relationships. From these emerge nomadic, non-binary, and nonteleological forms of intimacy that resist fixed binary categories. Second, the study investigates how these fantasies of nomadic intimacy …

How Does Fandom Contribute To Content Ip Value Formation?: Proposal For Fandom Asset Model, Sungmin Lee, Kyuchan Kim

Kritika Kultura

Despite the escalating importance of intellectual property (IP) in the entertainment industry, perspectives for assessing its holistic value beyond the conventional legal framework have been insufficiently discussed. This study posits fandom as a core source in the formation of value for content-based IP. To this end, the study critically examines the limitations of traditional IP perspectives and aims to establish a theoretical foundation for a fandom-centric theory of IP value by drawing upon participatory culture theory and brand equity theory. Furthermore, this paper proposes the Fandom Asset Model (FAM), which incorporates the scale (S), intensity (I), and duration (D) of …

The Practices Of Hallyu Fandom As A Digital Neo-Tribe: Trans-Bricolage And Post-Coding, Soongbeum Ahn, Taeryong Kim Apr 2026

The Practices Of Hallyu Fandom As A Digital Neo-Tribe: Trans-Bricolage And Post-Coding, Soongbeum Ahn, Taeryong Kim

Kritika Kultura

This study examines global Hallyu (Korean Wave) fandom as a pluralistic, heterogeneous counter current within the decentralizing flow of global popular culture. It conceptualizes this fandom as a form of digital neo-tribe and interprets its fluid, ever-shifting character through the theoretical lens of liquidity. To better understand the performative practices of these fan communities, the study adopts and applies the concepts of trans-bricolage and postcoding. Hallyu fandom practices can be broadly divided into two types: cultural practices and economic practices. Cultural practices are expressed through the reappropriation of K-content’s forms and messages via modes such as quotation/commentary, reference/borrowing, and transformation/modification. …

Meta-Analysis For Software Releases, Brian Knab, Pablo Nusenovich, Dancsi Percival, Xiaoqi Lu, Ying Wang, Alex Lemon

Defensive Publications Series

This document describes an automated process to evaluate the impact of new software updates, also referred to as software deployments, binary releases, application builds, or canary testing, by comparing new updates against historical data rather than a standard control group. Traditional A/B testing or split testing during routine software rollouts, including continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) deployments, frequently misidentifies normal statistical noise as a failure or software regression because the update process inherently biases the testing environment. During a new software release, the computing device dynamically sets a minimum number of users from which to collect data and a …
