Synthesis And Evaluation Of Long-Term History-Aware Medical Dialogue, Hebin Hu, Renke Dai, Ah-Hwee Tan, Yilin Kang
Synthesis And Evaluation Of Long-Term History-Aware Medical Dialogue, Hebin Hu, Renke Dai, Ah-Hwee Tan, Yilin Kang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
An effective healthcare agent must be able to recall and reason over a patient’s longitudinal medical history. However, the absence of datasets with realistic long-term dialogue timelines limits systematic evaluation. Real clinical text is constrained by privacy and ethics, while existing benchmarks focus on isolated interactions, failing to capture cross-session reasoning. We introduce a framework for synthesizing high-quality, long-term medical dialogues with LLMs. Our approach entails a knowledge-guided decomposition into three stages: constructing synthetic patient profiles with diverse disease and complication trajectories, generating multiturn dialogues per encounter, and integrating them into a coherent longitudinal history dataset, MediLongChat. We establish three …

Programming errors and misconceptions are pervasive in novice programmers which causes difficulty in the learning of computer programming. Large Language Models (LLMs), with their ability to comprehend and generate programming codes have shown promising results in the automatic identification of errors. This can potentially benefit student programmers by providing them with timely formative feedback at efficiencies and scale that were not attainable previously. In this study, we leveraged an LLM - OpenAI o4-mini for the generation of elaborated, targeted feedback for novice programmers across PHP and JavaScript exercises. We contend that the feedback needs to be effective and targeted other …

Selective Concolic Testing, Guofeng Zhang, Zhenbang Chen, Ziqi Shuai, Jun Sun, Weijiang Hong, Yufeng Zhang, Ji Wang, Yang Liu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The principled combination of symbolic execution and random testing lacks a formal foundation, especially in deciding which inputs to symbolize. We propose selective concolic testing, a cost-aware framework that formulates this choice as an optimized policy problem of a MDP (Markov Decision Process). We model program exploration over a finite control-flow graph, where MDP states represent covered statements, actions partition path constraints into symbolic and random fragments, rewards reflect coverage gain, and costs account for SMT solving effort and sampling inefficiency. Our framework yields the first formal characterization of selective symbolization as policy synthesis in a probabilistic system. We prove …

Mechanical Engineering
The growing deployment of photovoltaic (PV) technologies across a wide range of applications, from residential rooftops to agrivoltaic systems, has created new opportunities, such as harnessing albedo from bright surroundings, as well as challenges, including limited space availability and adverse shading effects, which urge the need for optimising space along with energy use. While vertical bifacial photovoltaic (VBPV) systems may offer a potential solution, their effectiveness against their conventional inclined counterparts remains largely unexplored in different locations. This paper presents an experimental evaluation of the energy performance of vertical and inclined Bifacial PV configurations under the different climatic conditions of …
Transform-Based Quantum Potential Reconstruction From Sparse Spectral Data: Generalized Bertlmann-Martin Moment Inequalities, Matthew Plott
Transform-Based Quantum Potential Reconstruction From Sparse Spectral Data: Generalized Bertlmann-Martin Moment Inequalities, Matthew Plott
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Inverse quantum problems ask whether a central potential V(r) can be reconstructed from limited spectral information under explicit modeling assumptions. This dissertation develops and validates a reproducible, transform-based framework for reconstructing ground-state radial densities rho(r) = |R(r)|^2 and central potentials V(r) from discrete bound-state energy levels using generalized Bertlmann-Martin (GBM) moment inequalities as physics-informed constraints. In the Laplace route, L(q) is assembled from moment data and inverted numerically to recover rho(r). In the Fourier/form-factor route, even moments determine F(q) and inverse transformation yields rho(r). To support sparse spectral inputs, analytic continuation is performed with Pade approximants, and the framework is …

Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The solar thermochemical conversion of carbon dioxide into synthetic fuels represents a promising pathway for mitigating anthropogenic CO₂ emissions while enabling the production of carbon neutral energy carriers. This study investigates the use of cobalt ferrite (CoFe₂O₄) as a redox-active metal oxide for two step solar thermochemical CO₂ splitting to produce carbon monoxide, a key component of syngas. Analysis showed that increasing εgg from 0.0 to 0.95, consistently strengthened heat recovery in the inert‑gas and oxygen cooling stages, which in turn sharply reduced the auxiliary heating loads for both Ar and CO₂. These reductions propagated through the system, lowering the …
Unsupervised Discovery And Validation Of Affective Engagement States Using Synchronized Eeg And Eye-Tracking During Digital Learning, Menekse Adar
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
This study explores affective engagement states in digital learning environments using synchronized EEG and eye-tracking data. EEG signals were collected from frontal channels and processed using sliding windows to extract band-power features. Frontal Alpha Asymmetry (FAA; log alpha power difference, F4–F3) and the Beta–Alpha ratio (BA; log beta/alpha power ratio) were used as affective proxies. Instead of predefined emotion labels, unsupervised clustering methods were applied to identify latent engagement patterns directly from EEG features. To ensure robustness, non-overlapping parity analysis and hold-out validation were performed. Statistical tests were conducted to compare FAA and BA values across the identified clusters. Results …
Exploring Dynamic Imine Bonds In Hemp-Seed Oil Based Reprocessable And Mechanically Robust Epoxy Vitrimer, Varshikkumar R. Patel
Exploring Dynamic Imine Bonds In Hemp-Seed Oil Based Reprocessable And Mechanically Robust Epoxy Vitrimer, Varshikkumar R. Patel
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
Epoxy thermosetting polymers are among the most versatile materials utilized across aerospace, automotive, construction, and electronic industries due to their exceptional mechanical strength, chemical inertness, and superior thermal stability. However, the majority of commercial epoxy resins are derived from non-renewable petroleum-based feedstocks such as bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA), which leads to inherent environmental challenges including non-biodegradability and the inability to be recycled or repaired after curing. These drawbacks arise primarily from the permanent covalent crosslinked architecture formed during the curing process, which prevents molecular mobility and reprocessability. To address these limitations, dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC) has emerged as a promising …

Enhancing The Mechanical Strength Of Soy-Based Polyurethane Adhesives Through Incorporation Of Schiff Based Diols, Yashkumar N. Patel
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
Recent advancements and trends in eco-efficient bio-based adhesives are explored in recent years. “Eco-efficient” refers to being effective both environmentally and economically. In this study, soy-based polyurethane (PU) adhesives were reinforced with vanillin-derived Schiff base diols (VB and VH) to improve mechanical strength and thermal stability. Two diols synthesized from vanillin and aliphatic diamines butanediamine (BDA) for VB, hexanediamine for VH were incorporated at 5, 10, and 15 weight percentages (wt.%) into a soy-based PU network cured with methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). Mechanical testing on bonded oak wood showed that adding these crosslinkers noticeably increased adhesive strength. Optimal performance occurred …
Extremum Seeking Compensation And Quantification Of Position Sensor Offset Error In Speed-Controlled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors, Tessa Biondo
Masters Theses
Position sensor offset errors present a persistent challenge in speed-controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor drives operating under field-oriented control. Even small, constant offsets in the measured rotor position can reduce torque effectiveness, requiring increased current and voltage demand to maintain the commanded speed and resulting in degraded speed regulation performance across a range of operating conditions. These effects are particularly problematic in speed-controlled systems, where speed loop dynamics cause increased electrical effort and limit overall performance. Many existing detection and compensation approaches are either dependent on the system model, require offline calibration, or are primarily designed for torque-controlled operation. This …

Increasing Accuracy Of Mapping Local Climatic Zones Using Building Height And Spectral Unmixing, Ian Douglas Stauffer
Masters Theses
Local climatic zone (LCZ) classifications are traditionally done using reflectance, population data, and often climatic data. The goal of this research is to utilize Google’s new “Open Buildings Temporal v1” building data set as well as “spectral unmixing”. With the objective of testing, assessing, and implementing this data set into the workflow of LCZ mapping. After testing the quality of the data against a validated LiDAR data set from the same year as a given “Open Buildings Temporal v1” band, I implemented it into the Random Forest machine learning process. Secondly, I justified the use of spectral unmixing as a …
Transient Mitigation In Dual Active Bridge Converter Using An Auxiliary Converter With High-Frequency Selective Control For Load Step-Down Condition, Sachith Dilshan Wijesooriya
Transient Mitigation In Dual Active Bridge Converter Using An Auxiliary Converter With High-Frequency Selective Control For Load Step-Down Condition, Sachith Dilshan Wijesooriya
Masters Theses
Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converters are widely utilized in applications such as electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and solid-state transformers due to their high efficiency, galvanic isolation, and bidirectional power transfer capability. However, during rapid load transitions, DAB converters frequently exhibit significant output voltage overshoot and prolonged settling times, which increase device stress and adversely affect system reliability. This thesis proposes an auxiliary-circuit-based transient mitigation method to address these limitations. The auxiliary circuit, implemented as a bidirectional Buck–Boost stage, operates in Boost mode during load step-down events to absorb excess energy and suppress the resulting voltage overshoot. The design of …

Architecture Theses
This thesis is an exploration into how stadium design can foster community engagement, cultural identity, and urban vibrancy in the United States. While many American stadiums often remain isolated from the urban fabric, located on city outskirts or suburbs and used solely for events, European models demonstrate the value of walkable, accessible, and integrated stadiums within mixed-use neighborhoods. Through a multidisciplinary review of urban design theory, economic factors, and programming needs, this research highlights the limitations of current U.S. stadium developments, such as issues of accessibility and underutilized public investment. Using a proposed downtown Dallas soccer stadium, the thesis offers …
Farming The Future: Urbanizing The Naturhus For Small Scale Food Cultivation, Madysen Brooke Rath
Farming The Future: Urbanizing The Naturhus For Small Scale Food Cultivation, Madysen Brooke Rath
Architecture Theses
Modern urban centers face the pressures of rapidly rising populations and food insecurity, leaving a landscape of “urban voids”-underutilized lots that remain dormant and unproductive. While the Naturhus typology offers a potential solution for symbiotic, glass-encased green living and food production in rural settings, it has yet to be adapted as a viable infill solution for the American urban grid. This thesis investigates the potential for urbanizing the Naturhus concept by reinterpreting a row-house typology as an infill strategy to create “greenhouse villages,” where residents actively participate in their own food production. It focuses on the cold-climate urban fabric of …
Re-Barn: Adaptive Barn Reuse As A Model For Aging In Place And Multigenerational Living On A Rural North Dakota Farmstead, Jared Eggermont
Re-Barn: Adaptive Barn Reuse As A Model For Aging In Place And Multigenerational Living On A Rural North Dakota Farmstead, Jared Eggermont
Architecture Theses
Across rural landscapes, agricultural buildings are increasingly left vacant as farming practices evolve, while a growing senior population remains in homes ill-equipped to support aging, often facing challenges with daily needs, health, and social connection as younger generations leave for urban areas. These underutilized farmsteads present an opportunity to support multigenerational living through the reuse of existing structures, allowing families to remain rooted while adapting to changing needs. This thesis explores how rethinking agricultural buildings can sustain social and physical continuity, drawing on research into adaptive reuse, aging in place, multigenerational households, and rural living. It proposes design strategies on …
From Steel To Sanctuary: Rethinking Sustainable Architecture Through Passive Design, Trent O'Neill
From Steel To Sanctuary: Rethinking Sustainable Architecture Through Passive Design, Trent O'Neill
Architecture Theses
Architects, innovators, and the entire construction industry continue to push the newest, most expensive, high-tech solutions to problems that technology itself has caused. The broader public, however, seems to have little interest or support in investing in such endeavors. From Steel to Sanctuary presents a different solution, one with roots thousands of years in the making. Sustainable design is not a new way of thinking. Our ancestors had subsisted as active participants, rather than simply as a spectator to nature for millennia before the rise of the technological age. Today, we coin the strategies they employed as ‘passive’ architecture; Systems …
The Architecture Of Water Consciousness: Revealing Water, Culture, And Dwelling In Phoenix, Arizona, Luke Wendel
The Architecture Of Water Consciousness: Revealing Water, Culture, And Dwelling In Phoenix, Arizona, Luke Wendel
Architecture Theses
In the desert, water has always shaped how people dwell, build, gather, and survive. In Phoenix, Arizona, this relationship has become increasingly hidden behind canals, infrastructure, policy, and control. The river that once supported settlement is now often dry, and water is understood more as a managed resource than a visible presence in daily life. A reimagining is needed, as the future of desert cities depends not only on conserving water, but on changing how people experience and value it. Can architecture reveal water as something seen, felt, remembered, and shared? Located along the Rio Salado, this thesis proposes a …

Roots In Timber, Tate Dawson Runge
Roots In Timber, Tate Dawson Runge
Architecture Theses
This thesis investigates how mass timber construction can serve as a low-carbon framework for developing attainable, mid-scale “missing-middle” housing integrated with meaningful urban greenery. Contemporary cities face dual challenges: limited affordable housing options and reduced access to nature, both of which impact community well-being and environmental resilience. By examining mass timber systems such as CLT and glulam alongside green infrastructure strategies, including planted terraces, courtyards, vegetated facades, and indoor botanical spaces, the research explores how these elements can be combined into cohesive, replicable housing prototypes. Precedents and literature on timber construction, biophilic design, and urban development inform the project’s design …
