Development Of A Simulation-Driven Evaluation System For Foreign Objects In Aircraft Structures, Daniela Garcia May 2026

Development Of A Simulation-Driven Evaluation System For Foreign Objects In Aircraft Structures, Daniela Garcia

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

This thesis investigates the use of simulation-driven methods to evaluate the behavior and potential impact of foreign objects within aircraft structures. Foreign Object Damage (FOD) remains a major concern in aerospace safety, as small components unintentionally left inside aircraft compartments can create uncertainty regarding their effect during flight. Although current inspection methods can detect the presence of foreign objects (FOs), they often cannot determine whether these objects pose a significant structural risk, leading to conservative maintenance decisions. To address this limitation, this work develops a simulation-based framework that integrates Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate …

The Impact Of Life Coaching On Self-Efficacy In Personal Goal Setting Among Black Educators In Arkansas, Veronica Cousette Jackson

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This quantitative study examines the relationship between life coaching and self-efficacy in personal goal setting among Black educators in Arkansas, with gender explored as a moderating variable. Self-efficacy, grounded in Bandura’s (1997) social cognitive theory, is a central determinant of motivation and goal-directed behavior, influencing persistence, effort, and adaptive strategies. Although life coaching has gained recognition as a professional developmental practice, empirical research remains limited regarding its psychological effects within educator populations and its differential impact across demographic groups (Grant, 2014; Theeboom et al., 2014). This gap is particularly significant for Black educators, who experience disproportionate workforce stress and retention …

Influence Of Nickel Content On Microstructural Evolution And Densification Of Tungsten Fabricated Via Vat Photopolymerization, Jose Miguel Gonzalez

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Hybrid additive manufacturing of tungsten-nickel alloys, combining vat photopolymerization (VPP) for patterning with custom thermo-hydrogen post-processing for reduction and densification, has emerged as a promising route for fabricating complex, high-resolution tungsten architectures. However, fabrication of tungsten via this hybrid AM technique remains challenging due to poor densification and significant defect formation during debinding and sintering. In this work, these limitations were addressed using nickel as a sintering aid in combination with controlled thermal processing conditions. Existing studies on activated sintering of tungsten typically focus on a single composition or sintering condition, limiting understanding of the combined effects of composition and …

A Penalty-Free Runge-Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin Method For \\[12pt] Time-Dependent Fourth-Order Partial Differential Equations, Jose Armando Perez Becerra May 2026

A Penalty-Free Runge-Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin Method For \\[12pt] Time-Dependent Fourth-Order Partial Differential Equations, Jose Armando Perez Becerra

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Time-dependent fourth-order partial differential equations arise in a wide range of applications in applied mathematics, physics, and engineering, including thin structure models, phase separation, and pattern formation. Their numerical approximation is challenging because the presence of fourth-order spatial derivatives typically requires high-regularity discretizations. A useful alternative is to reformulate the original problem as a coupled second-order system and approximate it by mixed discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods.

This thesis builds upon the penalty-free mixed DG framework developed by Liu and Yin for time-dependent fourth-order problems. That framework avoids the use of interior penalty parameters, preserves the symmetry of the associated bilinear …

Characterization Of The Antiviral Activity Of Mouse Schlafen Proteins, Wendy Paola Alvarez Leal

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

The goal of this work was to characterize the anti-viral role of mouse Schlafen8 and Schlafen9. Expression of these proteins is induced by type I interferon in response to viral infections. Importantly, their human functional orthologs exhibit anti-viral functions, and the structural element required for these activities are conserved in Schlafen8 and Schlafen9. Therefore, it is expected that these proteins will also impair viral replication. An important limitation in this field is that the anti-viral function of human SLFNs has been evidenced only in in vitro cellular models. No informative mutations have been described in human populations so far. Thus, …

Timing And Synchronization: Software And Hardware Approaches For Precision Maximizing, Christina Alicia Alejandra Carreon Jimenez

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

This thesis explores the design of synchronization mechanisms that allow multiple FPGA boards to operate as if they were a single coherent timing domain. The solutions span three layers: a software PLL for E1 telecommunication links, a PCIe-based timestamp exchange protocol, and a hardware-level multi-FPGA mesh architecture. Across these layers, the work demonstrates that practical, low-cost synchronization can achieve sub-microsecond accuracy without the burden of specialized hardware such as GPSDOs or White Rabbit infrastructure. Experiments show stable alignment within the nanosecond-microsecond range, validating the feasibility of the proposed methods for SDR and telecom applications.
