Performance Of Geopolymer Mortar Using Developed Dry Geopolymer-Cement By A Combination Of Alkaline Solid Activators, Mariam Farouk Ghazy, Metwally Abd-Allah Abd-Elaty, Sara Mohamed Mostafa

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This experimental study investigates the possibility of using a combination of solid activators to produce dry powder geopolymer cement. Fly ash (FA) and/or ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) were employed as precursors. Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate (NSP), calcium hydroxide (CH) and sodium carbonate (NC) were used as alkaline solid activators. Meanwhile, the effect of using a combination of solid activators to prepare one-part geopolymer mortars was studied by using three different curing methods and compared with the traditional corrosive alkali solutions that are used as activators in two-part geopolymer mortar, and also compared with Portland cement (PC) mortar mix. Fresh …

Remedies In Canadian Parental Alienation Cases: Turning To Tort Law For Support, Zechariah Weicker Martin Aug 2023

Remedies In Canadian Parental Alienation Cases: Turning To Tort Law For Support, Zechariah Weicker Martin

LLM Theses

This thesis provides an avenue to remedy some of the harms associated with parental alienation for rejected parents – an issue that is inadequately addressed by Canadian family law cases. One of the major functions of the legal system is to allow injured parties the opportunity to seek recourse. This thesis questions whether the prevailing approach to parental alienation is capable of providing justice to rejected parents. Family law centres on the best interests of children, a vulnerable group whose needs should be prioritized and protected. Parental alienation disputes destroy meaningful relationships between children and capable parents, but family law …

Indigenous Water Rights: Navigating Sovereign Waters, Cynthia N. Pina Aug 2023

Indigenous Water Rights: Navigating Sovereign Waters, Cynthia N. Pina

Master's Projects and Capstones

The issue of Native American water rights and the sovereignty of their land on reservations is gaining increasing prominence, making it the focal point of this thesis as an environmental justice concern. Native Americans face disproportionate public health challenges related to water accessibility, contamination, sanitation, outdated infrastructure, and other social determinants of health. The legal framework that governs the coexistence of Native Americans in the United States is rooted in a settler colonial perspective. Consequently, this has created a dependent relationship between Native Americans and the United States federal government. Despite the long-standing advocacy of Tribes for sovereignty since the …

Methodological Analysis On Settler Territoriality And The Rise Of The Yellowstone Wild Bison Advocacy Movement, Red G.R. Burkett Aug 2023

Methodological Analysis On Settler Territoriality And The Rise Of The Yellowstone Wild Bison Advocacy Movement, Red G.R. Burkett

Theses - ALL

Bison bison, also known as the North American Buffalo, are a keystone species of endemic megafauna in the Great Plains prairie ecosystem. Bison were driven nearly to extinction in the late 19th century when millions of buffalo were massacred by settlers in order to starve Indigenous civilians and force them onto federally-managed Reservations as a step in the centuries-long ethnic-cleansing of Turtle Island. Such genocidal methods were a primary tool in erasing the land claims of Indigenous nations and colonizing the territories of Indigenous communities who depended on bison as a primary source of food and materiel for social reproduction. …

Communication Optimization In Intelligent Reflecting Surface Aided Wireless Systems, Yifei Xu

Theses - ALL

With the growing demand for high-speed networks, 5G cellular systems provide advantages by utilizing higher frequency bands and wide bandwidth, and supporting high data transmission speeds. However, with the move to operate at high frequencies, obstacles such as buildings in urban areas and other blockages lead to challenges regarding received signal quality in wireless communications. More specifically, high-frequency signals emitted by antennas at the 5G base station (BS) can only propagate over relatively short distances toward users’ devices before being blocked by dense buildings in the area or scattered in different directions. In order to enhance the received signal strength …

Theses - ALL

Three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds are utilized in tissue engineering to address various unmet medical needs. Cryogels, are macroporous, crosslinked gel networks that are formed by gelation of precursor monomers/polymers under sub-zero conditions. Several studies demonstrate the potential of cryogels, as 3D scaffolds for culturing cells and controlled delivery of potent growth factors while improving upon limited porosity and restricted nutrient exchange that is characteristic of conventional hydrogels. Many current studies utilize free radical polymerization for designing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and alginate based cryogels resulting in formation of non-biodegradable networks. Here, we designed a hybrid double- network cryogel made of alginate and …

Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is a tool that provides detailed insight into objects invisible to the human eye. As the name suggests, an electron beam is used to create an image down to the nanometer scale. The beam focuses on the surface of a sample using lenses in the electron column. In this project, we use SEM to study three types of murine tissue. First, we examine the glomerulus, found in the kidney, that is primarily responsible for filtering blood. Following a left renal vein (LRV) stenosis, SEM is used to observe changes to the glomeruli. Differences in the left …
