Revisiting The Identification Of The Co-Evolution Of Production And Test Code, Weifeng Sun, Meng Yan, Zhongxin Liu, Xin Xia, Yan Lei, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Many software processes advocate that the test code should co-evolve with the production code. Prior work usually studies such co-evolution based on production-test co-evolution samples mined from software repositories. A production-test co-evolution sample refers to a pair of a test code change and a production code change where the test code change triggers or is triggered by the production code change. The quality of the mined samples is critical to the reliability of research conclusions. Existing studies mined production-test co-evolution samples based on the following assumption: if a test class and its associated production class change together in one commit, …

Fair Cloud Auditing Based On Blockchain For Resource-Constrained Iot Devices, Lei Zhou, Anmin Fu, Guomin Yang, Yansong Gao, Shui Yu, Robert H. Deng

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Internet of Things (IoT) devices upload their data into the cloud for storage because of their limited resources. However, cloud storage data has been subject to potential integrity threats, and consequently auditing techniques are demanded to ensure the integrity of stored data. Unfortunately, existing auditing approaches require owners to undertake expensive tag calculations, which is unsuitable for resource-constrained IoT devices. To resolve the issue, we present a Fair Cloud Auditing proposal by employing the Blockchain (FCAB). We combine certificateless signatures with the designed dynamic structure to constructively offload the cost of tag computation from the IoT device to the introduced …

When Routing Meets Recommendation: Solving Dynamic Order Recommendations Problem In Peer-To-Peer Logistics Platforms, Zhiqin Zhang, Waldy Joe, Yuyang Er, Hoong Chuin Lau

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) logistics platforms, unlike traditional last-mile logistics providers, do not have dedicated delivery resources (both vehicles and drivers). Thus, the efficiency of such operating model lies in the successful matching of demand and supply, i.e., how to match the delivery tasks with suitable drivers that will result in successful assignment and completion of the tasks. We consider a Same-Day Delivery Problem (SDDP) involving a P2P logistics platform where new orders arrive dynamically and the platform operator needs to generate a list of recommended orders to the crowdsourced drivers. We formulate this problem as a Dynamic Order Recommendations Problem (DORP). …

Unsupervised learning systems using clustering have gained significant attention for numerous applications due to their unique ability to discover patterns and structures in large unlabeled datasets. However, their effectiveness highly depends on their configuration, which requires domain-specific expertise and often involves numerous manual trials. Specifically, selecting appropriate algorithms and hyperparameters adds to the com- plexity of the configuration process. In this paper, we propose, apply, and assess an automated approach (AutoConf) for config- uring unsupervised learning systems using clustering, leveraging metamorphic testing and Bayesian optimization. Metamorphic testing is utilized to verify the configurations of unsupervised learning systems by applying a …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Freelance drivers in the shared mobility market frequently switch or work for multiple platforms, affecting driver labor supply. Due to the importance of driver labor supply for the shared mobility market, understanding drivers’ switching and multi-homing behavior is vital to managing service quality on – and effective regulation of – mobility platforms. However, a lack of individual-level data on driver behavior has thus far impeded a deeper understanding. This paper taxonomizes and estimates perceived switching and multi-homing frictions on mobility platforms. Based on a structural model of driver labor supply, we estimate switching and multi-homing costs in a platform duopoly …

Arduinoprog: Towards Automating Arduino Programming, Imam Nur Bani Yusuf, Diyanah Binte Abdul Jamal, Lingxiao Jiang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Writing code for Arduino poses unique challenges. A developer 1) needs hardware-specific knowledge about the interface configuration between the Arduino controller and the I/Ohardware, 2) identifies a suitable driver library for the I/O hardware, and 3) follows certain usage patterns of the driver library in order to use them properly. In this work, based on a study of real-world user queries posted in the Arduino forum, we propose ArduinoProg to address such challenges. ArduinoProg consists of three components, i.e., Library Retriever, Configuration Classifier, and Pattern Generator. Given a query, Library Retriever retrieves library names relevant to the I/O hardware identified …

A Learning‑Based Approach For Estimating Inertial Properties Of Unknown Objects From Encoder Discrepancies, Zizhou Lao, Yuanfeng Han, Yunshan Ma, Gregory S. Chirikjian

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Many robots utilize commercial force/torque sensors to identify inertial properties of unknown objects. However, such sensors can be difficult to apply to small-sized robots due to their weight, size, and cost. In this letter, we propose a learning-based approach for estimating the mass and center of mass (COM) of unknown objects without using force/torque sensors at the end effector or on the joints. In our method, a robot arm carries an unknown object as it moves through multiple discrete configurations. Measurements are collected when the robot reaches each discrete configuration and stops. A neural network then estimates joint torques from …

We examined the extent to which intentionally underperforming a goal-directed reaching task impacts how memories of recent performance contribute to sensorimotor adaptation. Healthy human subjects performed computerized cognition testing and an assessment of sensorimotor adaptation, wherein they grasped the handle of a horizontal planar robot while making goal-directed out-and-back reaching movements. The robot exerted forces that resisted hand motion with a spring-like load that changed unpredictably between movements. The robotic test assessed how implicit and explicit memories of sensorimotor performance contribute to the compensation for the unpredictable changes in the hand-held load. After each movement, subjects were to recall and …

Strong-Field Vacuum Polarisation With High Energy Lasers, A. J. Macleod, J. P. Edwards, T. Heinzl, B. King, S. V. Bulanov

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

When photons propagate in vacuum they may fluctuate into matter pairs thus allowing the vacuum to be polarised. This linear effect leads to charge screening and renormalisation. When exposed to an intense background field a nonlinear effect can arise when the vacuum is polarised by higher powers of the background. This nonlinearity breaks the superposition principle of classical electrodynamics, allowing for light-by-light scattering of probe and background photons mediated through virtual pairs dressed by the background. Vacuum polarisation is a strong-field effect when all orders of interaction between the virtual pair and the background must be taken into account. In …

Understanding how the effectiveness of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine changes over time and in response to new severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants is crucial to scheduling subsequent doses. In a previous study, Horne et al. (1) quantified vaccine effectiveness (VE) over 6 consecutive 4-week periods from 2 weeks to 26 weeks after the second dose. Waning of hazard ratios (HRs) when comparing vaccinated persons with unvaccinated persons was approximately log-linear over time and was consistent across COVID-19– related outcomes and risk-based subgroups. To investigate waning beyond 26 weeks and in the era of the Omicron variant, …

Simulations Of Laser-Driven Strong-Field Qed With Ptarmigan: Resolving Wavelength-Scale Interference And Γ-Ray Polarization, T. G. Blackburn, B. King, S. Tang

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Accurate modeling is necessary to support precision experiments investigating strong-field QED phenomena. This modeling is particularly challenging in the transition between the perturbative and nonperturbative regimes, where the normalized laser amplitude a0 is comparable to unity and wavelength-scale interference is significant. Here, we describe how to simulate nonlinear Compton scattering, Breit–Wheeler pair creation, and trident pair creation in this regime, using the Monte Carlo particle-tracking code Ptarmigan. This code simulates collisions between high-intensity lasers and beams of electrons or γ rays, primarily in the framework of the locally monochromatic approximation. We benchmark our simulation results against full QED calculations for …

The clinical use of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes for the treatment of solid tumours is hindered by the need to obtain large and fresh tumour fractions, which is often not feasible in patients with unresectable tumours or recurrent metastases. Here we show that circulating tumour-reactive lymphocytes (cTRLs) can be isolated from peripheral blood at high yield and purity via microfluidic immunomagnetic cell sorting, allowing for comprehensive downstream analyses of these rare cells. We observed that CD103 is strongly expressed by the isolated cTRLs, and that in mice with subcutaneous tumours, tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes isolated from the tumours and rapidly expanded CD8+CD103+ cTRLs isolated …

Low-Frequency Laboratory Measurements Of The Elastic Properties Of Solids Using A Distributed Acoustic Sensing System, Vassily Mikhaltsevitch, Maxim Lebedev, Roman Pevzner, Alexey Yurikov, Konstantin Tertyshnikov

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

In recent decades, low-frequency (LF) experiments based on the forced-oscillation (FO) method have become common practice in many rock physics laboratories for measuring the elastic and anelastic properties of rocks. However, the use of the electronic displacement sensors in traditional acquisition systems of FO devices such as conventional capacitive transducers or strain gauges seriously limits both the efficiency and productivity of LF measurements, and, due to the limited contact area of the displacement sensors with a sample under test, increases the requirements for sample homogeneity. In this paper, we present the first results obtained in the development of a new …
