Investment In Teacher-Education Versus Teacher-Educational Research For Effective Teacher-Professional Learning, Nipael Mrutu, Esther Kibga, Aladini Hoka, Peter Kajoro, Fredrick Mtenzi, Hamis Nkota, Tage Biswalo

Institute for Educational Development, East Africa

Purpose: This systematic research paper provides a comprehensive review of studies and literature on three terms i.e., teacher education, teacher professional learning and teacher education research more specifically in the context of the Tanzania education system. One of the most important aspects identified in teacher education in recent years is teacher educational research despite being yet overlooked. Teacher educational research creates a better juncture through which a gap between teacher education and teacher professional learning is bridged and the two present well with one another.

Methodology: The analysis used 45 articles related to the three aspects, published in ten …

Phylogenetic Relationships Of The Woodlouse Flies (Diptera: Rhinophorinae) And The Cluster Flies (Diptera: Polleniidae), Silvia Gisondi, Eliana Buenaventura, Arn Rytter Jensen, John O. Stireman, Silvio S. Nihei, Thomas Pape, Pierfilippo Cerretti

Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

Phylogenetic relationships within the oestroid subclades Rhinophorinae (Calliphoridae) and Polleniidae were reconstructed for the first time, applying a Sanger sequencing approach using the two protein-coding nuclear markers CAD (carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase 2, aspartate transcarbamylase, and dihydroorotase; 1794 bp) and MCS (molybdenum cofactor sulfurase; 2078 bp). Three genera of Polleniidae and nineteen genera of Rhinophorinae were analyzed together with a selection of taxa representing the major lineages of Oestroidea (non-rhinophorine Calliphoridae, Oestridae, Sarcophagidae, Tachinidae). The selected markers provide good resolution and moderate to strong support of the distal branches, but weak support for several deeper nodes. Polleniidae (cluster flies) emerge as monophyletic …

Dousing The Flame: Reviewing The Mechanisms Of Inflammatory Programming During Stress-Induced Intrauterine Growth Restriction And The Potential For Ω-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Intervention, Melanie White, Dustin T. Yates Sep 2023

Dousing The Flame: Reviewing The Mechanisms Of Inflammatory Programming During Stress-Induced Intrauterine Growth Restriction And The Potential For Ω-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Intervention, Melanie White, Dustin T. Yates

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) arises when maternal stressors coincide with peak placental development, leading to placental insufficiency. When the expanding nutrient demands of the growing fetus subsequently exceed the capacity of the stunted placenta, fetal hypoxemia and hypoglycemia result. Poor fetal nutrient status stimulates greater release of inflammatory cytokines and catecholamines, which in turn lead to thrifty growth and metabolic programming that benefits fetal survival but is maladaptive after birth. Specifically, some IUGR fetal tissues develop enriched expression of inflammatory cytokine receptors and other signaling cascade components, which increases inflammatory sensitivity even when circulating inflammatory cytokines are no longer elevated …

Ferroelectric Hafnia Surface In Action, Xia Hong Sep 2023

Ferroelectric Hafnia Surface In Action, Xia Hong

Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience: Faculty Publications

Piezoresponse microscopy and spectroscopy reveal the inextricable role of surface electrochemistry in stabilizing and controlling ferroelectricity in doped hafnia.

Doped hafnia (HfO2), a relatively new member of the ferroelectric family, has challenged in many ways our conventional perception of ferroelectric oxides. It possesses extremely localized electric dipoles that are independently switchable,1 making it immune to finite size effects — the loss of long-range dipole order in ferroic materials due to size scaling. While polycrystalline grains and microstructures can yield lower polarization and poorer cycling behavior in canonical ferroelectrics such as Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 and BaTiO3, in …

Complementary Uses Of The Magnetic Vector Potential For The Understanding And Teaching Of Electromagnetics, Jack Adams, Christopher L. Duston Sep 2023

Complementary Uses Of The Magnetic Vector Potential For The Understanding And Teaching Of Electromagnetics, Jack Adams, Christopher L. Duston

Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications

This work reports on the uses of the magnetic vector potential A for understanding, visualizing and teaching electromagnetic phenomena. The teaching benefits of this work include examples of numerical modeling that facilitate understanding, and complementary visualization approaches. To facilitate discussion of A we first include a brief section looking at Φ in a system comprised of two hollow, positively charged spheres, demonstrating that the work required to bring the two spheres close together QΦ is equal to change in the total integrated electric field energy density. We then introduce a system comprised of a hollow, positively charged sphere interacting with …

Comparison Of Thickness Between Thermoformed And Printed Orthodontic Aligners, Omar Souman Sep 2023

Comparison Of Thickness Between Thermoformed And Printed Orthodontic Aligners, Omar Souman

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Introduction: The fabrication of thermoformed orthodontic aligners involves processes that irreversibly alter material properties, resulting in aligners that exhibit high variation in thickness. The non-uniform thickness can lead to unpredictable forces that can adversely affect orthodontic tooth movement. With recent technological advancements enabling the printing of orthodontic aligners, it is of clinical interest to investigate their variation of thickness.

Purpose: This study utilized Micro-Computed Tomography (Micro-CT) and Geomagic Control X metrology software to compare the thickness of thermoformed and direct printed aligners.

Materials and Methods: Intraoral scans of 13 orthodontic patients were used to generate standard tessellation …

Ironnetinjector: Weaponizing .Net Dynamic Language Runtime Engines, Anthony J. Rose, Scott R. Graham, Jacob Krasnov

As adversaries evolve their Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) to stay ahead of defenders, Microsoft’s .NET Framework emerges as a common component found in the tradecraft of many contemporary Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), whether through PowerShell or C#. Because of .NET’s ease of use and availability on every recent Windows system, it is at the forefront of modern TTPs and is a primary means of exploitation. This article considers the .NET Dynamic Language Runtime as an attack vector, and how APTs have utilized it for offensive purposes. The technique under scrutiny is Bring Your Own Interpreter (BYOI), which is the …
