Reimagining A Caregiver-Friendly Society, Jodi L. Southerland Dec 2023

Reimagining A Caregiver-Friendly Society, Jodi L. Southerland

Journal of Appalachian Health

Demographic aging is accelerating in the Appalachian Region, resulting in a growing proportion of caregivers living in areas that lack services to support their needs. Strategies are urgently needed in Appalachia to address deficiencies in the region’s long-term supports and services for older adults and their caregivers. Strengthening equitable access to care and community supports for family caregivers is a policy priority for state and community leaders in Appalachia.

Using In Silico Tools To Analyze The 5ʹ Untranslated Regions Of The Alcohol Dehydrogenase Gene From Arabidopsis Thaliana And Omega Sequence, Reza Mohammadhassan, Tina Asadishad Dec 2023

Using In Silico Tools To Analyze The 5ʹ Untranslated Regions Of The Alcohol Dehydrogenase Gene From Arabidopsis Thaliana And Omega Sequence, Reza Mohammadhassan, Tina Asadishad

Makara Journal of Science

The 5ʹ ends of protein-encoding genes contain 5ʹ untranslated regions (5ʹUTRs), which can effectively participate in regulating gene expression. The 5ʹUTRs of Arabidospis thaliana–derived alcohol dehydrogenase gene (AtADH) and omega (Ω) sequence from tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) are the most effective enhancers in biotechnology. In this study, bioinformatics techniques were employed to analyze the characteristics of the above sequences. After 5ʹUTR sequence collection, the inner ribosome entrance sites; small RNA (sRNA) target sequences; nucleotide contents; and upstream start and stop codons, ORFs, and coding DNA sequences of the Ω sequence and AtADH 5ʹUTR were identified. Moreover, the …

The Need For Energy Storage On Renewable Energy Generator Outputs To Lessen The Geeth Effect, I.E. Short-Term Variations Mainly Associated With Wind Turbine Active Power Output, Tony Kealy

Articles

Many studies investigating the short-term variations associated with the power output from wind turbine generators utilise simulated or modelled data in the analysis. This current study uses short-term empirical data downloaded directly from operational wind turbines via electrical power quality meters. The empirical data shows that the short-term variations (one-second or sub-one-second timeframe) occur continuously over most of the power output range. A novel name is proposed, the Geeth Effect, for this variability phenomenon. The Geeth Effect is measured using the coefficient of variation mathematical expression and is likely contributing to (i) lower-than-expected financial and environmental benefits associated with …

Exploring The Nexus Of Cybersecurity Leadership, Human Factors, Emotional Intelligence, Innovative Work Behavior, And Critical Leadership Traits, Sharon L. Burton, Darrell Norman Burrell, Calvin Nobles, Laura A. Jones Dec 2023

Exploring The Nexus Of Cybersecurity Leadership, Human Factors, Emotional Intelligence, Innovative Work Behavior, And Critical Leadership Traits, Sharon L. Burton, Darrell Norman Burrell, Calvin Nobles, Laura A. Jones

Publications

Data shows that 12% of leaders are rated as 'very effective' at leadership. This research emphasizes the importance of understanding human behavior and its impact on leadership effectiveness, innovative work behavior (IWB), and the ability to respond to complex cyber threats, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity leadership. Emotional intelligence (EI), a key human factor, is highlighted as a crucial element that can stimulate cognitive absorption, leading to innovative work behavior and improved innovation efficiency (IE). This underscores the need for leaders to not only be technically proficient but also emotionally intelligent to effectively manage their teams and respond to …

Electrodeposition Of Giant Magnetostrictive Transducers For A Fabricated Mixed Physics Signal Transmission Device, Mina Faltas Dec 2023

Electrodeposition Of Giant Magnetostrictive Transducers For A Fabricated Mixed Physics Signal Transmission Device, Mina Faltas

Nanoscience and Microsystems ETDs

Non-intrusive solutions for communication through a sealed metal vessel requires the use of piezoelectric transducers to transmit acoustic waves through the vessel wall. This approach suffers the disadvantage of compromised security because a potential eavesdropper could decipher the correlation between digital and electric signals of both sides of the system. One solution is a mixed physics system employing magnetostrictive transducers.

For a magnetostrictive transducer to work well in this application, it would have to have a high piezomagnetic constant. This is influenced by soft magnetism and saturation magnetostriction. Nickel-Iron-Cobalt alloys are modified to retain their soft magnetic properties while increasing …
